The fact that you can find a parking spot even at 0300 makes it all worth it. Restaurant was okay. I’ve had better and I’ve definitely had worse. Restrooms were nasty. But again…. I’ve seen better and I’ve definitely seen worse. All in all, I would return.

It is hit & miss (I feel). During these still trying times, help is an issue & putting out good food! When we went today, took 45 minutes (at least) to get our food ordered off the menu!!! My sons med. well done burger...well, close to burnt! My chicken fried chicken dinner...when I cut into it, the grease streamed out! Get it together & drain it guys! I waited another 10 after my son got his meal to get mine!!!! Then, I did not get the veggie or roll, it was offered but, why when you wait so long & it wasnt right to start with? When I told the manager, as I paid, I got a big $1.50 off a $64.00 bill? Different, new waitress & buffet, they said was good. Do not expect much from the manager!!!!

Its been quite awhile since I been here the prices might have went up but so has the price of food so its understandable....the cook was amazing I explained I had mouth surgery and needed softer food and I was able to eat everything I ordered he did a amazing job thank you....the waitress is very sweet and attentive also

So first off when I pulled in about 9:30 pm the restaurant was closed BUT the lady working the register made up for this by giving me and my son 1/2 off for our hotbox items. Will definitely be back again because in my book that was top-notch service. Also there was still tons of parking when I closed my curtains to sleep an hour later. Definitely added to my must stop list from here on out 🤙

Covid has done its damage to locally owned businesses. Port of Plains has also suffered. On the weekends they have a buffet and Alma is a sweet waitress and the restaurant has gone down a bit. However the food is hot and the smiles are coming back. There is always parking here and the bathroom is clean. Oh, coffee is hot and tastes good. Not to be hateful to the other reviews but its a mom and pop truck stop with local people working here. We drivers should know by now that most of us are unfriendly and can be abusive I would suggest smiling and being friendly. I get great treatment here so it works for me.

Do not waste your time. People are very rude there. I walked in looking for Bill of laden not knowing where theyre at, I was rudely told theyve never been where I was looking theyve always been in the other spot. Ive been driving 24 years and Ive never stopped at this truck stop and I will never stop again. I told the lady the reason Ive never stopped here is because of the dot weigh station. I told her about experiences where they have went in there and woke people up I have heard stories. The dot has also followed them out of the truck stop and pull them over I have also heard the stories. He then tells me its never happened because shes worked there for 15 years I guess shes worked there 15 years 24 hours a day 7 days a week and never took a break. She insisted on calling me a liar saying it wasnt true. I guess nothing happens at that truck stop without her knowing about it. Literally attacked me wanting to argue that it has never happened, a very bad experience.

As usual the restaurant is never consistently open. Obviously they dont care about business or being open for late drivers to eat. This used to be a great place now its barely worth 2 stars. Only nice thing was freindly clerk in c-store not even any food there worth anything.

The whole place is a wreck, the waitress cant seem to do their job correctly, we sat there for a good 5 minutes not too long, I was fine with that. But when the waitress arrived she was extremely rude and unprofessional for an adult, our food was done, she just didnt give it to us and was being touched by multiple flies, and tried to move our plates out of our field of vision so we cant see the handful of flies touching it. We let her know that we wanted to cancel our order because of all of the flies and the amount of time we have waited, we waited over and hour for our food and she proceeds being rude telling us that there are flies all over the place, Waitress name is Ashley. There was another guy sitting there and he was there longer than we have been there and never received his food. Unbelievable. DO NOT GO HERE.

We went in today to get gas. It was during shift change. The clerk made me wait 45 minutes before I could prepay for gas. When I complained about it she made several very nasty comments and cussed me! I cant believe someone would act like this working in public. She didnt have a name tag but I was there on 8/16/21 at 448 pm.

Ranchers restaurant had good food and a very pleasant and hard working staff. I do expect our family to eat here again.

This is a good place to rest from the road. There are a few items on the shelves that are not consistent with a big convenience chain. Interesting specialties from Mexico and small businesses. I didnt have as long as I thought and didnt make it all the way back to the restaurant. I didnt even know it was there until I went to the bathrooms and saw the signs for the restaurant. The was a little arcade. The bathrooms were clean and functional.

I loved this stop for many years. It was one of my few 5 stars. It needs better help in the restaurant. Slow and they dont know their butt from a hole in the ground.

This is a nice little restraunt/ gas station.It’s so huge and busy. Lots of parking. Restraunt is open 24/7. Serve lunch and breakfast all day. They also have an amazing salad bar. Not only salads and noodles but, fried chicken and real food. Totally worth the stop on my way to Texas. Nice place to let your doggy out. With grass around the perimeter.Big rig/ RV parking friendly. Right off the highway. Very cute ambiance as well.If you need it, they have it here.A little update on this outfit. So the salad bar is an award winning manure/fertilizer spreader. Turned into a salad bar. Very creative.The owner said they brought that in, in 1984.When the place was still under construction. They had to put it inside before putting up the wall to the restraunt.Just a nice fun fact:

The food was pretty ok. I ordered a steak and it was pretty good. The rest of our food was fine. The service was nice and our server was friendly and the place was clean. It needs an updated decor and the food could be better.

Terrible service, sat there for over 45 minutes, took 25 minutes to get our waters, a large group came in after us and got their food and our food wasnt even being cooked, the place was empty, no need for the service to be so bad

Had eggs hash browns sausage & toast added 1 french toast. Eggs & sausage was overdone hashbrowns were UNEAETABLE! BURNED AND SO OVER COOKED THEY CRUNCHED! Waited 20 minutes after I got my meal and still no toast as cook still hadnt even put it in the toaster. There was me and 2 other customers!!!!Last time I ordered the chili relano special it was ok but the mexican rice was just rice with tomato sauce! RUN DONT EAT HERE AT ALL!!

Ive been here several times and have never had an issue with parking (day or night). Restaurant is outstanding. I always stop here when I travel this way.

I dont know if youve ever seen the movie Zootopia, but the people who work here are so slow you feel like youre in the movie talking to the Sloth. The place reeks of excrement and its hard to tell if its the employees or the bathrooms.

The wait staff needs to be fired. I came in and it took 10 minutes to ask me what I wanted to drink. With 6 total customers and 4 waitresses this is unacceptable. I attempted to get their attention but they just look at me. Was there a total of 25 minutes and all I got was a glass of water. It is sad that they hire lazy staff. They dont even deserve a 1 star rating. If you are not a regular local customer go someplace else or you will die of starvation waiting to GIVE your order. I watched as a local customer came in and they were taken care of before me and I had been there for 20 minutes.

Went to eat they said they were trying to close. It was ten minutes from closing time. Most places would welcome your business but not here guess they dont appreciate the customers like they should. Had the Burrito Plate and I must say I was very impressed. The Green Chili was perfect. Came with Chips and Salsa. The Salsa was very tasty. Had a hard Taco with it and it was also on the money. The Buffet didnt look too appetizing but I made the right choice. Price was very reasonable.

If you stop there for eat dont order stake. Actually I wanted to say dont eat there. Stake tastes like paper a d corn was tasting like not corn (I dont know the taste name). Some weird color in middle after cooking till medium well. Only Pepsi and A1 sause tastes good in that restaurant.P.S Server were nice. Casher rude.

Plenty of parking for the night which is the biggest plus. Most of it is on gravel, however. It’s in a location to where I’ve never saw it full. Especially because there is additional gravel parking in the front where most trucks don’t even park because there is plenty of parking on the gravel in the back. It’s also a plus that it is located directly right after a weight station. So you know that station is passed and you can rest easy.I wouldn’t recommend showering here though because the showers are pretty low quality.

Nice amenities and facilities the restaurant closes at 9 pm you can buy all sorts of stuff here.

Parking for big trucks is plenty even late at night. The store is just as convenient as your typical travel store.However, I can’t say the same for the restaurant. First off the wait for a simple steak, potato and toast was just too long. Second, the cook couldn’t even deliver a medium well steak without burning it on the outside (charred). Furthermore, it was dry as in the inside meat was plain white in texture, most likely frozen straight to the grill without defrosting to room temp before cooking; just over cooked altogether. Third, if a simple request of NOT putting butter on the toast cannot be followed, you have no business cooking at a supposedly “Family Restaurant”. And lastly, I wanted to give their pies a try as carry out, but then I was told that they weren’t fresh, I suspect couple days old according to the waitress look. I consumed less than 1/3 of the meat, didn’t touch the toast but I finished the stuffed potato but still, the food doesn’t warrant my bill. SMH.

One of the best places to eat for the entire eastern half of Colorado. Huge parking lot, truck amenities, super friendly waitresses. We eat here at least once a week-- nearly every time we are in Lamar. Everything weve tried so far has been very good. Id recommend the smothered burrito for breakfast, the steak, chicken fried steak, the burgers, or the philly cheese steak sandwich. Inside, there is a game room, bathrooms, a large convenience store, and services for truckers. On highway 50, this is some of the best food between Pueblo and Kansas.

Stopped in to order lunch to go. Ordered grilled fish with loaded baked potato. I was charged for each individual topping on the potato. I was also given fried fish instead of grilled. Although the food did taste good, I expected grilled fish, and didnt expect to pay for each topping. Disappointed.

Waitress thought it was more important to sit outside front entrance, smoke and be on her phone. No refill, no ticket ended up telling the cashier what I had and got back on the road. She could have refilled my water and left and ticket and smoked in the back. Fellow driver was still there when she came back in. Never washed her hands. Cook was swamped and was doing the best under the circumstances. I won’t be back unless there is a Gordon Ramsey makeover.On a side note there are numerous electrical violations and health code violations I noticed while waiting 44 minutes for my food.

When will we learn! Service is bad, food is never hot, customer service has alot to be desired. We kept thinking it would get better. We were wrong. We would rather go somewhere our business is appreciated.. no one should have to accept bad customer service and lukewarm food. We wont be back again.

I would eat there every day if they had creamy chicken in buffet but that is rare. I dont like fried food or another Mexican buffet which is what they serve most days. The food might be good but the service was horrible the coffee was horrible and couldnt get a hot shower Im just sad as a truck driver I would never come here again the lady admitted the coffee was 2 and a 1/2 hours old and said that wasnt old then proceeded to charge me $5.50 for 2 coffees ridiculous The Showers ring up as grocery so you cant use a corporate card plus they dont do team showers so i would have had to pay for 2 showers, a poor place, they clearly dont care about the drivers

This was my favorite truck stop in Colorado.. no more. The quality and service has been getting worse and worse over the last 3 months. They told me that they make their own chicken strips,-- they were frozen. We never got a drink refill. 1 other couple in the restaurant and all 4 waitresses stood talking very loudly, doing nothing. Really a heartbreaking turn of events.... this is my last visit. I have given up on them.

Horrible!! We have stopped here for many years and have always had good food. Tonight our meat was burnt with COLD potatoes and vegetables. They lady running the register asked how are food was, we told her, she discount a WHOLE $3.00 off the bill. I went in to pick up an application since i saw that (Indeed) the Site that helps with finding employment. The page on there said were hiring come in and grab an application i went shortly after it was posted it shows the amount of time its been up for normally on that site. But when i get up there they looked at me funny and said there not hiring. I looked decent hair done clean nice clothes not trashy looking or anything and they miss-gendered me since im trans MtF. So i feel as if that is the reason i was told they not hiring. My guess there not an equal opportunity place to work so i wont be going back to even get gas there.

Ordered meatloaf and the waitress thought I ordered roast beef. $2:00 more expensive. That come out of her tip. Food is good here. She asked if I wanted to return it. I said no. I never return food. Eat it or leave it. Its healthier that way.

I come to Lamar to see family regularly and we eat here all the time. I cannot say enough good things about the truck stop diner experience here!!! Best tasting water in the area, good food, kind staff, friendly locals! Love coming here!

My server in the restaurant was friendly and tried to be helpful but the food was nasty. I had ordered a taco salad which looked great upon arrival. The meat was either old meatloaf or something I probably don’t want to know. Zero taco spices used. Zero onion, zero guacamole, Zero refried beans, Zero cheese. Why bother even having it on the menu?I had ordered the taco salad because the special of ribeyes a customer was eating looked dry and tough. The soup and salad bar was old and on it’s way to becoming a science experiment. The noodle soup was never checked because there was alot of ingredients except for the broth making the soup look like old stroganoff. My first and last time at this establishment. The rest of the truckstop is fine. Lots of parking, great bathrooms. Stay away from the restaurant. I’m awake writing this at midnight sucking down Tums trying to ease the heartburn.....

We ate here on 07/14/16. My wife order a turkey beacon sandwich & I order a hamburger of the menu. The burger was good but the turkey sandwich had hair!!! Not one, but quite few. Very discussing. Theres was flies all over the salad bar as well. Pretty nasty! Never again.

Nice friendly stop. And finally a joint that doesnt overcook the pork chops. Compliments to the chef.However I will recommend the servers make those dinner salads to order.

Worst service Ive experienced. Didnt get any straws for my 3 year old with his kid drink. Didnt get silverware and my sister in law didnt even get her food. The waitress was rude and the service as well as the food were horrid. With the multitude of people there was no fresh salad bar. The fruit was disgusting and tasted funky.

Its a little run-down but it is good food good service in a nice place to stay quiet and a lot of room in the parking lot for trucks. The restaurant is very good food top quality bathrooms are small and hard to get around in need to be upgraded but well take care of it in a pinch.

Absoultely horrible!!! Will never eat there again. Waited an hour and half to be told that our order was not even placed. Probably another 15 minutes before we actually got our food and my steak was absolutely horrible,chewy. The waitress maybe came to the table twice the whole time we were there. They tell us they will take care of us meaning they will pay at most 5 dollars for our drinks, so a customer that is sitting next to us goes and pays for our whole meal?! Do you see something wrong there?! Never again.

Get here at just before 10pm. Walk in to restaurant, they are closing. Fine no problem Ill get something from the store, shift change...wait few minutes. Then they have to walk to back office before opening next register. Really???? Its 2018 going on 2019. There is more efficient ways of doing this. Walked out hungry and fustrated. Trucks on Electronic Logs do not have time to wait for insufficient practices.

Old school truck stop with large parking lot, decent gas prices, friendly staff and clean restrooms. Restaurant has typical trucker classics like burgers, sandwiches and dinners like meatloaf and fried chicken and a small yet tasty buffet that includes a salad and chili bar.

Ive been on a greyhound for several hours. This is a nice country stop. The burger and fries were more than fairly priced, and though average, it is the good sort of average.

Its always a good place to stop. I have taken a few 34 hour breaks here because it is so much better than anything Denver, or anyplace else in eastern Colorado.

Friendly staff, but the salad bar, that wed read about in reviews was supposed to be good, was less than impressive. Only iceberg lettuce to choose from, and the additional items were not fresh or cold.The cooked food buffet was not hot, and was flavorless. Well drive right on by next time.

Very clean and nice friendly workers. Very good food in the restaurant to.. Also the diesel fuel is treated with schaffer fuel additive i can always get more miles out of a tank.

Ordered chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. Took more than half and hour. Mashed potatoes were stone cold. Chicken fried steak was over cooked. Gravy had a layer indicating it’s been under a heat lamp for quite some time. Had stomach cramps, explosive gas, and diarrhea immediately after. Do not recommend this place off of concern for your health. I feel like these 5 star reviews are from family members, or are just paid reviewers so the owners can scam another sucker into a low quality excuse of a meal.

Service in restaurant was ok. Myself and co-driver Ordered ten oz ribeyes, we cut (sawed) off 3 oz of grissle on each steak. And I knew I was in a truck stop. Damn it. I knew better. Two of us and it was $49.

Had tire and wheel seal replaced, barely had time to finish my awesome steak and shop was done. More than fair on cost, and a very good salad bar, this place is great.

These one star review seem to be BSI had a waitress asking my order within 30 seconds I made my order at 13:00 and had fresh hash browns with my orderI would say all in all it was about a good of an experience anyone could expect!

I got food poisoning from eating a burger here. I was sick for 2 days, had a fever and evertevery, the food was burnt and I could taste the grill they cook on, its like they dont clean it. I dont suggest u eat meat or dairy here. I hope they improve.

Horrible and disgusting. I was given left over hash browns that were tough and hard. Warm bread for toast with burned bits from the grill all over it. I told my waitress and the check out girl at the register. The waitress said sometimes they use leftover hash browns. I wasnt offered a discount or anything.I paid 10 dollars for 1 egg, tiny o.j., and 2 thin bacon slices. We eat here when passing through but always get burger. I will never eat here again.

The food was good and the the mechanics shop is awesome at keeping to their word ... how ever both atm s we’re down, I asked the lady at the front counter if I could do cash back she shook her head back and forth at me and said we don’t do that here, I asked if there was another place close by I could find an atm she gives me a discussed look picks up here phone calls someone in the back tells them the atm is down, hangs up looks at me and says what I let them know and bobs her head at me again, For this reason I will never stop here again for mechanics service food or other wise ... without good customer service you have nothing I need thanks to the ones in the shop who understood the frustration.

Nothing special but nothing terrible is a good way to explain this restaurant. Went to eat here from a recommendation and the food was just ok. On my table we had 3 people get buffet which they said was ok but the best thing was the Jalapeno Poppers. Myself and one other order off the menu. I got the smothered hamburger and was Ok as well but the patty and chili lacked spices. The other person ordered off the menu got Huevos Ranchos and didnt not like it. May try this place again if in town but may look for something better.

Jan ‘18: did not check out the restaurant. We chose not to stop in town once we saw the nice “travel plaza” signs. I wish we would have. The hot case food was awful, but did serve a purpose and stop a grumbling belly. The coffee is ok, although there were no cups with coffee lids so we are currently wearing part of it. Overall the place was pretty worn down. There is plenty of parking. Credit card machine for fuel at the pump was not functioning so we had to put a card with the attendee. Next time will stop in town.

The restaurant sucks. Ordered a prime rib and got a sirloin with a chunk of fat in it. Showers are a joke. Parking lot is big but thats the only good thing about it.

Took the tour of the entire truck stop and was okay with almost everything there.They offer plenty of handicapped parking at the entrance on the west side of the plaza.The bathroom are push door, no handicap button to open the door.The main west side door has an automatic motion sensor door, double wide for easy access inside.If you go to the right as you enter, the hallway leads to the truck stop office, the game room, his and her restrooms, and the hallway leads to the convience store which sits to the south side of the building, and also has an entrance into the convience store.On the south side and east side of the building are the fuel pumps and public scale.Also on the east and north side of the building truck plaza, are the parking areas for overnight parking.If you enter on the east side entrance....mainly used by truck drivers, youll see the shower rooms, drivers lounge, and washers / dryers.Inside the convience store which would be a left turn if you enter from the east entance, youll find alot of things that truck drivers and travelers might need.Theres also a little food/drink area for some quick hot and cold items.Souvenirs, phone accessories and much more.....friendly gentlemen working there....pleasant talking to him.Inside the west entrance to the left is the restaurant which boasts a souvenirs and miscellaneous gift udeas also, and some really good sodt taffy chews, and thecoie case, which had a few selections on display.The restaurant inside is huge, and could probaby entertain 100 group size....maybe spread out, but also might fit inside very back area.The day i went was a Sunday and the $9.75 breakfast buffet was empty and had several others walk up and turn around and go back to their table because no food.When i asked about the buffet, i got no immediate response, pretty much ignored and that was directly speaking to the cook and 2 servers.Once the buffet was stocked with food, it was a pretty decent breakfast buffet, complete with fresh fruit, miniature pancakes, french toast, biscuits and gravy.....and your basic sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and toast.My waitress made no stop to my table to adk about my meal, and i asked twice to get my 1st glass of water.Not to friendly on the restaurant side of the truck plaza.I will definitely give them another try, because it was good enough to indulge more.

Horrible horrible service, we were there for 30 mins without any of the waitresses coming to take our drink order and food order, they had literally 3 other people in the restaurant so its not like they were super busy, and when we walked in the waitress looked me directly in the eyes so they knew we were there. They both kept looking over at our table yet never came to get our order so we left. This isnt the first time this has happened to us, we will not be going back there ever again.

Everything about this place is satisfacyory, about average (same as standard truck stops) plenty of parking. One thing that infuriated me- as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran is that it is disrespectful to fly the colors when they are torn (thats a slap in the face to EVERY VETERAN THAT EVER PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE FOR THIS COUNTRY AND AN INSULT TO ALL THAT DIDNT RETURN and the lackadaisal attitude presented when this was pointed out made me examine the flagpole to locate the rope to cut it down. I will NEVER RETURN if the next time through this repulsive, disrespectful attitude toward America is still.being displayed on their flagpole!
