Had a wonderful experience with Elderly. Dan helped me pick a guitar over the phone and took my order. He was knowledgeable and kind. The shipment arrived within 2 days via FedEx and everything arrived well packaged and safe! I also appreciate the help from Dawn in finding the picks that I lost somewhere in the packaging. Thanks so much to all of you! Highly recommend.
I traded in a vintage guitar for a ukulele today. Everyone was extremely knowledgeable and helpful and made it a great experience. Dan was a standout today and have to give him extra points! If you’re looking for an instrument this is definitely the place to go. Wish it wasn’t such a long drive!
The repair technicians at Elderly are friendly and generous with their time and expertise. I brought my Taylor in with an intermittent Expression system. I had purchased the guitar at another, larger, and well known music store where it was also then serviced twice for the same faulty electronic components - only to leave me with the same problems and a bad experience dealing with a behemoth music corporation.Im direct contrast to my previous experience with their competitor, Elderlys staff listened to my concerns, provided me with helpful feedback and options. All the tech employees treated me as a valuable customer even though I wasnt a professional artist spending $$$$$ on instruments and equipment. I will be bringing my business back to Elderly, thank you, repair staff, for your down to earth love for music and your craft. It shows.
Best guitar shop I’ve visited! I bought guitars here and had them repaired here. They really are the best. Elderly’s feels like home!
Elderlys is a vintage instrument institution locally and nationwide. We are fortunate to host them here in Lansing. Great place for beginners to learn about instruments. Great place for professionals to find what they need.
Elderly is still my go to local music store after 30 years! I have never found a better selection of Resophonic guitars and banjos as well as gear. Elderly used to be the only place you could buy a new Scheerhorn besides ordering it from Tim himself. I can remember dealing with Raoul years ago when Id order a guitar. While Im not sure if he still works there, the shop is staffed with fantastic and knowledgeable musicians and that makes all the difference. Elderly does a great job of photographing and describing their used instruments. I recently purchased a used Scheerhorn standard body guitar and the entire purchase process was great - even during the pandemic. I had them ship it to Tim and he did a set up and shipped it out to me, no problem. They really get some amazing guitars and amps in stock here, too. One day I will make the pilgrimage to the physical store and check out the place that has earned my business for decades!
Busted up my guitar. So grateful for a place with repair expertise.
Excellent service 👌Very kids friendly, even during COVID. On our last trip here my 8yr and LD son just started playing the electric guitar. Not only did they help us find all of our supplys they let him explore all the different instruments. Bless their hearts they also were very patient and answered all of his questions.
Breaks my heart to post this, but Elderly is a shadow of what it once was. They still have super high-end acoustics, but most of the show room was empty. I found no vintage pieces of note and walked out pretty disappointed. I grew up in Lansing and this place is an icon...but probably my last trip in there.
We were there to get my husbands guitars worked on, they were all very nice .
Whether you play or not just viewing the beautiful instruments is worth the trip.
I visited in December just looking to buy a nice case for my guitar, and I could tell that this is a business that really cares about helping others. I was a complete newbie at the time, and was having trouble with a guitar that I had ordered online elsewhere; they helped me with absolutely all of my questions and gave me many helpful tips that made my time as a new guitarist much easier (and subsequently more fun!).While I was in the store, a very nice Yamaha classical guitar caught my eye. My willpower failing me, I later purchased it and it is immaculate. There are no flaws in it, whatsoever, and it is set up perfectly to my liking. All of this helpfulness while still treating public health as an absolute priority! When I start looking to buy a new guitar, Elderly Instruments will be my go-to place! They have such an amazing collection to lust over!
I came here because they have a great website. In store they have a great selection and were very helpful without being pushy. I ended up getting a different guitar but would definitely consider this place in the future.
I was in EI today. Unfortunately they were having power glitches from a recent storm YET staff still made time to come chk on me, talk abt my interests today and he even played a few of the guitars for me so I could hear how they sound. Such great service!
Its literally a world class establishment. People from all over the world send their instruments here for repair or seek advice from Elderly Instruments.
This is a great place to go for a wide selection of guitars, amps, violins and other instruments. The staff was friendly. I took my three year old and they were welcoming to him and took time to show him a few things. I would recommend going to here if youre interested in any musical instruments. I didnt see any drums there.
I have had many positive experiences with Elderly. In my purchase of 2 guitars, and in the repair of one guitar. Service is great. Knowledge of the staf is invaluable.
Got my online order within a couple of days. So quick and packed wonderfully. Very very pleased with my in store and on line shopping with Elderly.
I just went in to buy a new harmonica and not spend a whole lotta money and Andy hooked me up with just the right harp. A tad more than I wanted to spend but I couldnt be happier. The Big River is a real musical instrument and sounds great. Thanks Andy!
Really nice and professional shop. Great selection of guitars.
I’ve been coming here for at least 25 years, and every time the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and amazing. I’ve purchased several vintage instruments here, and even consigned a few, and have always been treated well. Highway recommend elderly.
Thank you folks, this was the first time l have ordered from Elderly, my goods arrived at my place in Australia very nicely packaged in only three weeks. Great quality, price and service and the thankyou card is a lovely touch as well. It inspired me to leave a review.Regards, Paul Leys, Victoria, Australia.
Friendly and helpful staff, good selection.
A string players paradise.
The people at Elderly know their stuff about everything they carry. The instruments they sell are competitively priced and their descriptions are spot on. When you buy a used instrument from them, it has been thoroughly serviced by their expert techs and ready to play. I recently purchased a beautiful HD-28 from them and couldnt be more pleased.
A customer since 2003. Ive purchased a considerable number of instruments during that time, and the staff there has been top-notch and personable. The vibe is great and - although the past year has been a challenge - I hope to return again very soon. Ive had a number of instruments repaired through their shop and the work was exemplary.
Everything, top notch the Best for stringed instrument players from the novices to the professionals . Everyone there is professional and really nice. Something very rare in todays world.
A step back in time personal service..... Historic building part of old town .... Very pleasant experience.
We bought a lot of stuff since 2005, many Ukuleles, strings, cases, Straps, books, methods and many other.Always kind, quick, quite cheap, they have EVERYTHING YOU NEED!!!THANKS A LOT ELDERLY! CHEERS FROM ITALY
Great store but the location is worrisome, as there was suspicious activity behind the back parking lot with a group of guys and gals dealing drugs and what not
Excellent Customer Service Speedy Delivery Very Knowledgeable Staff Thank You
Thanks so much Jeff! I couldnt be happier with my Kentucky km 150, set up perfectly! These guys go beyond and above exceptional customer service.
Great experience. Andy was so helpful.
Disappointed that they no longer have anyone available to repair elderly instruments.
Great selection. Good prices. A Lansing staple.
Very helpful and service oriented.
Love the store. Always great time. Bought books today.
Wonderful. Like being in a museum.
Great selection that includes many brands and hard to find instruments. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Ive purchased small things from Elderly in the past, but I went out on a limb and bought a used Martin guitar from them last week. I couldnt be happier with the transaction and the guitar. Quick shipping, beautifully packed, and the guitar is even better than their condition rating and description.
Absolutely wonderful experience. The folks there helped me find the right case for my situation and it could not have gone better.
Absolutely love Elderlys and their staff and inventory. You can also buy online.
Great store superstaff
Great experience ordering from here, The instruments are always set up perfectly! Very nice selection of different instruments as well.
Great selection of acoustic guitars as well as ukulele and mandolin. Very friendly.
Fantastic store! Very responsive and knowledgeable staff.
Just popped in for a mandolin strap and asked questions about learning a new instrument. Employees were great to talk about their experience and give advice and did not make me feel at all out of place being at a beginner level.
I always had the best service at elderly instruments they have every thing u need on some of the best instruments made I recommend elderly for all your instrument need
Very responsive too questions and helpful
Great Music store for guitars. Nice friendly & helpful staff.
Outstanding selection of guitars. Very traditional and very clean. I love this place for guitars and instruments from blue grass to classic rock. Not much for metal heads like myself but regardless its a sight to behold.
Sent my guitar in to trade, when it got there one I wanted sold. So I asked to trade on another sold it also while appraising mine that I bought from them. Offered 2200 less than what I paid them for it! What a slap in the face. Only played 20 times for about 30 minutes at home. I wouldn’t buy a guitar pick from them ever again. I bought 5 Martins from them I can’t believe they treated a good customer like this
As I was filing and displaying my music books, I came across the March 1989 Elderly Instruments Books and Video tapes Song Book. Talk about going back in time. Nothing has changed with Elderly as I found out they are still in business. That’s where I’ll do my shopping for Music Books and Instruments. So long, Amazon.
Elderly instrument isnt about instruments anymore they are all about Financial Gain.
One of a kind, no one as the inventory quite like Elderly
Great products and great service. I would recommend to everyone.
Been in that neighborhood since I was a child. Longevity come with quality.
I brought in a Warren May lap dulcimer with the thought of consignment sale. After their review, I was told that the instrument was valued at $149.29 but required work to bring it up to their standards costing almost as much as its work. They outlined the repairs as leveling uneven frets and making a new ebony saddle. I was offered $50 or the option of taking it back. Trusting their reviews, I took the $50 and assumed I knew nothing about dulcimers. Imagine my surprise when I saw my dulcimer (it had a very unique design) on their website offered as is for $400. The needed repairs were outlined just as they had been described to me. $400 for an outlay of $50. Not a bad profit margin. Maybe they sell good instruments but they dont treat their customers with honesty or respect. Be careful.AN ADDENDUM - I was contacted by the owner who reviewed the transaction and offered me a fair price for my dulcimer. I am now satisfied with my experience with Elderly Instruments. I learned a lesson - if unhappy, speak up. I hope the employee involved also learned that it is important to treat customers with honesty.
Knowledgable staff.
Great place, excellent capability and knowledge. Very responsible about covid so you can safely enjoy
Its always a magical experience visiting there!
I truly enjoy Elderly Instruments but my latest visit was only for a repair pickup. It was a curb-side pickup only. The gentleman was very pleasant to talk with but wanted to see the guitar and wanted to head back into the building. After that we just went over to the river for 15 minutes before heading back home for a 90 minute drive.
Best guitar shop in the world!
Been a customer for over 20 years.Only get my gear at Elderlys. They know their stuff.
Great guitar shop, extremely friendly and helpful
My bf bought an amp & hes super excited so five stars from me !
Absolutely the best place to buy an instrument in Michigan. Highly recommend them for their knowledgeable and friendly staff, great inventory selection, and consistently consumer-friendlly policies and practices. A+
Been shopping happily here for 40 years. There us no better guitar store on this planet. Thank you Stan and crew for always keeping me pickin!
Lots of electric guitars, acoustic guitars, amps and other stringed instruments. Something for every level and price range.
Took time to answer all of my questions. I will be back in the near future to make a purchase.
Have always loved Elderly Instruments. It is like comfort food for the soul...
I love this place
Toilets low. Elevator stopped working.
Every guitar is setup well. Reasonable prices great employees.
Cant say enough good things about purchasing with Elderly. Unlike quite a few reviewers, I used their online portal to purchase a new Pisgah banjo as an upgrade, as well as a new hard case. Elderly made sure to setup the banjo properly, and then took the extra time to pack it tightly within the hard case ... and then used even more packaging to secure the package within a box. Shipping was quick, and I doubt the banjo moved more than 1/8 during shipment. Will use again, thank you Elderly Instruments!
Excellent store with friendly, curteous, humorous staff. Ive been going here since I was young, and have always felt welcome!
I have successfully purchased different items long distance from them. I enjoyed their paper catalog before the internet, which was very detailed. I am not sure if they still have it.They have always been very pleasant on the phone. I loved and miss Mandolin Brothers and am happy that a place like Elderly still exist.
Elderly is my home away from home. I have gone there almost every week since as far back as I can remember. They are the best! Always courteous helpful and friendly and no high pressure sales but if you want to know something about a guitar or stringed instrument your interested in, just simply ask. Or just spend an hour in string heaven trying out different instruments. Ive bought and sold several guitars through them and always a great experience. You cant duplicate this fun buying experience in an on-line store. The luthiers are the best and will do an excellent repair or setup for a reasonable charge. If you bought the guitar from them they WILL bend over backwards doing a perfect setup to your personal preferences if it isnt to your liking. You guys and gals are the best!
What a cool store! Every musician should check it out! Old Town Lansing.
The people at Elderly treat every customer like a neighbor. If you have any concerns, just call them, and they will make things right! They are my go-to place for any music books and videos.
Not worth visiting until after they figure out Covid. Youre better off finding another place to go for music. They just cant handle the whole Covid thing and make if WAY more painful than is necessary.
This is a beautiful store! Dont miss the experience.
Great place for quality instruments, repairs, instructions. Many other extras-- DCs, music instruction books of all kinds. They cater to those looking for good guitars, banjo, fiddles, ukes etc. Worth the drive!
Great experience!
Very detailed staff, accurate description of instrument and condition. Shipment was painless with regular updates and very well packed.
Perfect! Beautiful Banjo Ukulele! Great experience start to finish!
A destination for 6 string musicians.
I love this place! Friendly helpful staff and their Luthiers are second to none! I took in a Les Paul for some work recently and they did an amazing job for a price that I thought was next to nothing! I received the guitar set up perfectly, clean and playing better than ever. They always have an amazing selection of instruments and everything that you could ever need or want. They will always have me as a customer!
Customer service over the phone is terrible. Just called and tried to get some guidance and was treated very poorly. Such a legendary place with very poor real world results! Staff seems very rude just as other reviewers have stated!!
Been shopping at Elderly since since 93. It is my go to music store.I Have never visited, but perhaps one day!
Very impressed with Elderly Instruments!! I made my first online purchase from Elderly on Sunday and received my new guitar on Wednesday! Packaged nicely and in perfect condition. Highly recommend!
Elderly Instruments is a good music store that provides a wide selection quality instruments, old and new. However, I was very underwhelmed by the staff during my most recent visits. They have a habit of not acknowledging your presence and talking down to you and being a bit snobby for a lack of a better word. If you dont look important, you arent. I walked in with intention to buy and walked up empty-handed because of how rude the staff was. With that being said, the store itself is a nice place. Its a shame that the employees of a great store are so curt and short. Wont be coming back.
Had an incredible experience picking out my new Martin here. Staff left me alone to play as much as I wanted, but was incredibly helpful when I bombarded them with questions. Highly recommend!
Lots and lots of string instruments! 2 large walls of ukuleles, and more not displayed. Definitely check the website, because there are lots of additional items that are not in the showroom. Lots of music books for folk instruments.Plenty of in-store events.Highly recommended.
I write this as I am leaving the store. I came in today from out of town to look at a few higher-end Fender guitars. While I was here I was not once greeted or even acknowledged by a single person, despite the fact that there appeared to be several people working the sales floor. As a professional adult male, dressed in casual business attire, I expected at least the possibility of someone acknowledging my presence. Unfortunately that did not happen. That being said, I casually inspected a few guitars and promptly left the store... With cash in pocket. Apparently this is the sign of the times. Even the privately owned retailers cant take the time to acknowledge legitimate customers.
