Stop in the first time ever today to give them a try. The place is very cute and rustic but the atmosphere has nothing to give. The waitress I had was very standoffish from the start. Yes they were busy while i was there but that isnt a good reason to not pay attention to your tables fully.They let the orders just build in the window so plates are pilled on top of plates and as far as i can tell theres no heat lamp either to keep the food warm while it sits there.I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with 2 Over Medium Eggs on a separate plate, Load Extra Crispy Hashbrowns, and a biscuit instead of toast.After waiting probably 45 or so minutes i finally received my food. The Chicken Fried Steak as no flavor but is a very decent size, my eggs come on the same plate as my hashbrowns even though I asked for them on a separate plate, my extra crispy loaded hashbrowns werent crispy in the slightest, lastly the biscuit was delicious and was the best thing.Everything was homemade which was very appealing but the experience wasnt the best first impression.
The service is fast. The food is good home style cooking. The serving portions are large. Both times that we have been there, the place was busy which is a recommendation in and of itself.
This little Mom And Pop place is Amazing. The food is delicious, and the service is outstanding. The waitress could give Gordon Ramsey a run for his money, running the pass. She didnt let any mistakes get passed her, but was kind to her back of house. They work as a team, and were very accommodating to my special requests. We will be back again for sure!
Id like to rate this place higher because the menu was great and the food ended up tasting really good. But, it took a really long time for the food to come out and we didnt get all the food we ordered. Well, eventually we did. As we were walking out, the waitress ran up to us with the last of the food we ordered in a go box, so we technically did receive all the food we ordered. I think they tried hard, just maybe werent having their best day...?

Great Cafe food! The breakfasts are delightful, and Sam, the waitress, is funny, fast, and sometimes a little salty, but in a good way. She clearly has fun with the customers, and the regulars love her!
The Café is a smaller mom and pop style restaurant but they have indoor/outdoor seating and a large menu. Food was excellent and the people were very friendly.

Look for THE PELICAN Cafe sign, Not Railside Diner. We found out the name changed in 2014, but since it was The Railside for many many years, many locals still call it that : )Classic Local Cafe experience in eating here. Good service, fresh cooked food, and lots of locals in and out which makes a fun atmosphere for travelers coming through. Server had a coloring book and crayons for our little one. Lots of booths and lots of deer heads : )
Great burger, awesome fries and plenty on the plate for not a ton of money. Fuddruckers should try to make food like this! I give fuddpuckers about a 2star. Food was cold,expensive, lousy personalities and the plate was half full:( ☹

My wife and I love finding good hole-in-the-wall diners, and this one is our new favorite. We loved the food and the atmosphere. If you are passing by Laural, MT... do yourself a favor and stop in for food.
Best local little diner around! Friendly and funny staff and owners. Full of lots of regulars and serves some truly great diner food! Almost always rather busy and cannot wait for them to expand!

I would haven given them 5 stars if it wasnt for one continuous issue. The waitstaff at the Pelican are all great. My favorite is the breakfast and nice sized portions. My issue is I order crispy fries and they are soft fried so I order Xtra crispy and I still get soft fried fries. I live 3 miles and order on my way to resturant so it is not from being closed up in container sitting on counter. I want my fries the way I order them I hate soft fried fries

We usually like their food but not so much tonight... and the place isnt cleaned appropriately ... hot sauce jars sticky, salt and pepper shakers with dried food on them, bathroom icky etc ... doubt well be back again ... 50 bucks in food not worth $10 and Covid hotbed potential (no onevwearing masks and that lack of cleanliness) ... yuck

Ordered takeout over phone and wasnt informed of the total nor that they had a fee for takeout. Food was pretty good, usually its amazing but this time the hash browns had no flavor and my eggs were well done instead over easy. This place is a great spot to eat 99% of the time.
Found this cafe on an overnight stay, went for breakfast and did not disappoint. The food and staff are awesome. But be hungry, if order an omelet or pancakes may want to share or plan on having extra meal to take home. The decor is rustic hunting and fishing. So glad to have found this place.

The biscuits sausage gravey with hashbrowns and two eggs was absolutely the best. Didnt get a full half eaten but was it ever good again for breakfast the next morning.

Great food, big portions! Just like Mom used to make. Tight quarters but homey. They do have outside seating as well, so you do have that option. Prices are good, we had two big cheeseburgers, fries (homemade, not frozen!) And two ice teas for under 20 bucks, cant beat that. They even have liver and onions, so I will be back!!
Food was OK but this place is easily going to be a COVID germfest. Full capacity, cramped seating. Staff and patrons werent wearing masks, no sign on the door saying anything about wearing masks or COVID. I was literally the only person there wearing one, and I felt like the odd one out.
Came from Omaha - came by here for some breakfast traveling through. Definitely did not disappoint! Cheap for a lot of food! The pancakes were huge and the syrup was great! If you pass through stop by here!! Nice little diner with friendly people!

There is very little room to move, so if you are claustrophobic, want to maintain 6 ft of distance, or have a problem with buildings that are obviously not originally meant to be a restaurant, I would avoid it. The food was acceptable, and the service was excellent.

We liked our waitress, spunky and fiery. The food, not so much. Eggs were okay, bacon was overcooked, hashbrowns were undercooked, and we didnt like the pancakes or coffee. At least we tried a local place rather than a chain. Next time in Billings/Laurel, well look for a different local place.
Had crepe breakfast here. It was a generous portion of good food, likely cooked in a pan rather than on a crepe griddle, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. No specialty coffees here but good all you can drink medium or dark roast drip coffee.

Walls and tables are made of light-colored wood with hunting trophies mounted. Very warm atmosphere, which provides a welcome contrast to the cold outside. The owner and waitress whom I met were hospitable and also warm. The food was decent. This restaurant used to be at the TA on Frontage road until moving here. Will remember when I am in Montana again. I wish the man many more years of good business.

We waited for 30 minutes today and finally walked out after three families before us walked out and we looked to find multiple families empty cleaned off and ready . This is the third time trying to eat there and unfortunately will be the last!

First visit was not impressed with food at all. I had chicken fried chicken dinner and it was a frozen compressed Chicken patty way overcooked to hard to eat. My hushand had chicken fried steak and it had no seasoning gravy was on side and had to add water to make it pourable over CF steak and do not recommend. We tried it again and the hamburgers were great fresh GB homemade fries and great pies. Definately good burgers.
Our Go To breakfast place in town. It gets busy though so go early or be patient its worth the wait.
The food was great, save for the hash browns, they could have been cooked a little longer. The staff was friendly and made sure my drink was never empty.
When in town I have to stop, this place rivals any big name restaurants as far as food is concerned. Ill bet the so called big boy restaurants would love their seats full like this place always seems to be when Im there. That says more to me than anything, if the locals fill the seats it must be good! I know Ive never been disappointed or left there hungry. Keep up the good work you guys.

Chicken fried steak breakfast is the bomb. It covers its own plate. Hash browns and eggs come on a different plate. CFS was tender and good gravy. Friendly, attentive service in the smallish dining area was relatively quick for a late Sunday morning (probably their busiest day, it was packed). You may have to wait a minute for a table or booth, smaller parties or singles can try to get a spot at the counter.
Unbelievable portions of excellence! Best meatloaf in Montana. No fillers and 100% beef! This was my first visit with many more to come!

I will have the chicken fried steak at 9:32. Im sorry we are out of gravy. Your are out of gravy is that correct? Were not out we just have to make more were so close to closing. What time do you close? 10:00 p.m. so you are asking me if I want them to make gravy for my chicken fried steak half an hour before U close is that correct??? She said yes I said well I could go somewhere else... She said will make gravy. Not good at all Ill never go back. Definitely not the Pelican or the old rail side diner.
