I enjoyed coming here so much. I was so excited to actually see Ben and Erin. They were in the shop with the camera men, so I did not have the privilege of meeting them, but seeing them was a real treat. As for the store: the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, the store was beautiful, even the floor was beautiful. (I shared a picture) It has so many things to look at. Quality made items and a large variety of items. I definitely would love to come back.
Of course…everyone is here for the same reason, so you’re just a number, but I was impressed as to how friendly the staff was to each and every visitor. Store was picked pretty clean of wooden items (cutting boards, rolling pins, etc) during our visit. Of the other items which were available, their prices were rather high, but to be expected. It was neat to see into the wood shop where part of the show is filmed. The workers seemed to be pumping out cutting boards. Parking is tight for the number of visitors, so pack your patience.
Most of everything in the shop was handmade. Prices are steep but should be expected for the quality of the merchandise. The fact that some of the products were made locally made the difference for me on purchasing items. There are many leather items, bags, t-shirts, coffees, flannel shirts, work aprons, etc. If you need an ice cold beverage, there are plenty of options inside the walk-in cooler to choose from or you can make a cup of coffee for a buck fifty; free if you buy a bag of coffee. Try before you buy is a great option.
We really enjoyed our visit to both Laurel and the Scotsman General; however, we had no idea that the Crawfish Festival was this weekend and were a bit overwhelmed in the store. We hope to visit the area again (as were from Marylands Eastern Shore!), but Ill be sure to do my homework and check for local events first. Dont get me wrong, we enjoyed the festival, but with the pandemic it made it difficult to fully enjoy ourselves in places like the store, with the crowd. Other than that, we couldnt have been more pleased with the staffs kindness and with the array of unique and retro products that were offered.
Great place to visit, lots of fun products and the ability to watch Ben from Hometown on HGTV in his workshop. Some of the items are a little pricey but theyre also very good quality so it makes sense theyre a a little more expensive. They are all handmade - leather items like wallets and Keychains, wooden items like cutting boards, fun souvenirs like stickers and coffee mugs with the General Store logo. They also have lots of food items - salsa, jelly, taffy, popcorn, sodas, lots of yummy items to choose from!We enjoyed getting to go to the Scotman General Store, its pretty much the same as you see on TV. Its nice that theyve turned part of it into a store people can visit and see inside his workshop. When we were there they were filming a different show, something coming to Discovery Plus that we havent seen yet. We are excited to watch so we can see when this episode comes on.Everyone at the store was very friendly and personable. Each one working there asked us where we were from and why we were visiting which was fun. Theyre a bunch of down to earth people who genuinely act like they care about you as a person which didnt surprise me - the southern hospitality shines through from each of them! We enjoyed talking to the man who was in front of the glass where you can see inside the workshop where they film. I wish we would have gotten his name, he was just really friendly and made us feel very welcome! We cant wait to go back and visit to see what great items they have added to the store and hopefully see more filming take place while we are there!
Nice shop from the HGTV show hosts. Lots of products made in the USA. Things were a little too expensive to buy a lot of souvenirs or gifts for myself or others. However, it was neat to see into the workshop. That was a great idea to have the ability to view into the workshop. They were allegedly filming while I was there, but I didnt see much going on (a couple of people standing around).
Everyone was nice friendly and helpful. Everything was immaculate. And we got in and got out without any issues. Enjoyed looking at all of the merchandise. And we will go back.
I was really looking forward to this experience because a year or so ago I had looked at the website and I saw all kinds of merchandise made of wood. I was very disappointed when I got there. It was a lot of very overpriced kitch. They had mugs for $23 each. A lot of cutesy signs that I would never want to hang in my house and were also very expensive. Besides that, they had things like t-shirts and food that obviously were just bought at a gift shop market. The biggest problem with it was that it was really overpriced. If Im going to buy that kind of thing, Id rather go to a boutique shop in my own hometown and support a merchant thats not a multi-millionaire on TV. I doubt that my local merchants would charge as much as they do here.
Enjoyed seeing where Ben does his magic with wood. Nice merchandise but alittle to high for my budget.
Was lucky to be there a day they were filming at Ben’s wood shop the gift shop has a large window that opens to Ben’s wood shop there is no filming or photos allowed while they are filming …but they took a break for lunch and was able to catch Ben as he was leaving to get a pic ..even though the director wasn’t happy about it….(see pics )
Havent ever been there, but we plan to visit in October. We Absolutely Love, Ben and Erin. Their show is a Must See Every Episode. God Bless you bith, always. My wife and I would love to meet you guys
Super cool store. Great people
So excited to be here! Lots of local made goods and other souvenirs to buy. The staff us very friendly, and yes, we did get to see Ben working in his shop. A great place to stop!
Lovely, friendly staff. Wonderful things to purchase. They had a food trailer outside by the 5000 Feed The Masses who had scrumptious food! Loved it💕
If youre a fan of Home Town on HGTV, this is Bens workshop. Pricey, touristy, souvenir shop is the best way to describe the attached General Store. My wife wanted to stop here. And as any wise man knows, happy wife = happy life.
Cute little store. Prices were fair and I love the reporposed building. Staff was so super nice and it was a genuine nice instead of often you get the Im nice because I have to be. I truly felt out cashier was in a good mood, was happy to see us, was inquisitive about buying a specific bag for my daughter and thankful for us coming in. I will be going back for sure!
Love the show. It was cool to stop by.This place has expensive stuff. Cool stuff, but expensive. Too many things didnt have prices listed.Worth it to stop by if youre in Laurel. The manly version of the Laurel Mercantile store.
Great store, so much merchandise to pick from. Store is dog friendly. Loved looking at all the products. Very friendly staff.
Neat place. I found some Pineapple Pepper Jelly. Very delicious, will go back for more.
Expensive items for the most part. Mississippi cheese straws and a fly swatter was all we purchased. One fella working in the wood shop from Tupelo Ms and he waved back at us. No sign of Big Ben, but thats ok. There are no restrooms any where to be found. Would recommend Laurel install a nice rest area near the shoppes since no stores have public restrooms.
Love this experience! The Scotsman team were very helpful and polite. Cute things to see. Cant wait to go back and visit Laurel MS
Live the show Home Town so had to stop by while visiting Laurel. Shop was very quaint and folks at the store were very nice and gave great information for walking tour and local sites.
There are so many different things inside this store! From the leather goods, to the soda bottles, to the vegetable seeds, to the souvenirs - this place has it all! We also enjoyed seeing into the shop where the woodworking is done. Definitely a fun stop!
We have been trying to get here for a few months. We have had breakdowns that have delayed our quest, yet we made it! I bought my Scotsman hat and T- shirt and am thrilled to have spent my money in the general store to support these two hard working entrepreneurs that have changed the face of this community! Thanks Ben and Erin! It is our pleasure!
Really liked being able to see into the woodshop. The items they have for sale are all very charming. We did purchase popcorn for the road and tried a few of the sodas from the fridge. Had lunch in the yard with the family. Worth the drive.
Great variety of unusual soda pops, grapefruit sodas, amazing Jeni’s ice cream. Stars off for being CLOSED on Sunday June 19. The sign In the window said open Sunday 1-4. On Saturday we visited and the outside chalkboard said open Sunday 1-4. We came back Sunday to get Jeni’s for a family gathering and were very disappointed. And >$70 for a plaid flannel shirt is crazy.
If you are a fan of Hometown then this is a must see. The coolest part is looking into the workshop through a giant window. Some cool items for sale. The store is not huge but is comfortable. Parking can be tight.
We have been planning this trip for sometime now as we faithfully watch HomeTown. I’m glad we finally made it and got to see the five blocks that seem to make up the town. We drove around to try to see any familiar houses from the show. As we drove we saw Ben and Erin but they didn’t seem to have any time for us. I understand they like their privacy but don’t forget who has made you famous. Anyways we ate at Pearls, shopped at the General Store, antique store and boutiques. We even had coffee with some of the locals. The locals were very nice but don’t seem to follow Hometown. We left with a disappointing view that the show is not really what they seem to want Laurel to be.
Loved my experience here, hope to come back for more next summer.Love the coffee and cups and t-shirts
SUPERB EXPERIENCE. THE SALES FOLKS WERE FRIENDLY. THEY HANDED OUT MAPS OF LAUREL TO HELP US FIND OUR FAVORITE SITES. BENS WORKSHOP HAS A BIG OPEN SIDE SO WE COULD SEE ALL THE WORK.
Loved loved LOVED this shop! As a fan of Hometown, it was wonderful to see Bens shop! The fire and ice pickles were delicious, and I cannot wait to try the syrups and jellies I got!
Bens workshop from the show Hometown is in the general store. There is a big glass so you can see inside. The store also sells t shirts and other merchandise. They also sell snacks and drinks. The truck Ben drives in the show is parked in front. Very easy on and off the interstate.
We had a delay in getting to Laurel but when we only had an hour or two before our next venture we were told by locals what not to miss and they were totally right by visiting downtown it was amazing and we definetly need to come back for an extended stay. I hate we missed taping day or all the lovely things on Laurel but so blessed to have had a small moment to connect with one of my favorite shows and see how real it is.
Loved this gift shop boutique. Themed from their tv show. Quality goods.
This shop had a nice selection of merchandise available. It was also nice to be able to see Bens workshop from the store.
Looks like it would be a good place to see. Got there around closing time and didnt get to shop much. Going back tomorrow. What we did see was interesting and got to see Bens workshop. Will update after next visit.
Today was my first time in the store and I didnt have very much time at all to check out everything because I got there right at closing time. While there the 2 employees were incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Ben and Erin we love you.Continue the amazing work that you are doing. We definitely would like to come back to Laurel
Was rather disappointed since it just is a souvenir place, not something with a little more substance to it. Although Ben and Aaron probably use it as a place to film at times, I seriously doubt that its someplace that is used a lot. HomeTown is a great show but Laurel has turned into a tourist trap. Im glad I went to laurel, but I seriously doubt I will do it again.
I would have like to say hi and tell them how much we enjoy the show. But they didnt come over to say hi. We have been to Chip and JoAnn in Waco, Barnwood Builders in WV, and Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke, VA. Were we met and had pics taken w Grayson. What a lovely, nice young lady.It was still a nice place to visit. One thing that we thought was really great here in Lauren is there is so much FREE parking near all the great shops. Not like Waco where you have to pay $10 parking 4 blocks away. All the people we met, in all stores were so friendly, wonderful to talk to.
Loved the shop!! Was hoping to see Ben & Erin but they wasnt there this time. Laurel is a beautiful town!!!
I had no idea what this place is but the tattooed guy was awesome to talk to. We stopped because a traveling partner knew of it. They have Swamp Pop so theyre alright in my book 🤣
Lok the show, had to stop in while driving through. Easy access off highway. Great selection of merchandise.
Scotsman General Store, this place is a wonderful collection of mostly manly merchandise. Beard oils, leather goods, t- shirts, and lots of tasty treats. I loved it, probably my favorite place in laurel.
Lots of cool gifts, snacks and the pop cooler with unique & old school varieties is really cool. (Whattya think @BenNapier?)Really neat to see the woodworking shop, too.
Great time in for Home Town TV show.
Such a nice store! And the clerk, Zion, helping me pick out a beard oil for my husband, was absolutely delightful!
This is a must visit spot. So much more than you see on TV,
Fun to see were the show is filmed. Interesting items for sell
Were fans of the show and visited the store! We loved it! We were on a road trip and had low tire pressure and Mike helped us put air into our tires in the rain! Thank you so much and we will definitely come back!
Drove 950+ miles to be here . Love the show and for me it was a great stop to see. Thinking about moving here from Wisconsin
Nice selection and they were filming
Great place to visit. Staff very friendly.
Great store. Awesome soda cooler. Love that you can watch the guys work while you shop!
Very cool to see where Bens Woodworking Show is filmed. HGTV crew just happened to be there filming the day I was there which was a neat bonus. Got some cool souvenirs.
Great place and great people. I enjoyed my visit. We will return and recommend.
Very cool place. Lots of souvenirs and staff was very helpful.
Loved seeing the woodworking shop, the general store had some really cool stuff, and the cooler of Sodas was like my personal heaven. Such a cool place!
No Ben there but their shop is nice love the rocking chair.
It was good for a short visit, but bless Ben and Erin, it is has tourist pricing, and thats ok. You go for the experience.
Obviously a must-see for Laurel tourists. Such a nice store, very good quality merchandise, and some of the most friendly staff anywhere!
We love Ben and Erin!!! It was neat to see the shop that so much work is done in.
Amazingly awesome!!! . You literally see something new each time you go in.A definite place to visit.
Love it! Traveled from Cleveland Ohio to see all of Laurel. It was my bucket list trip
Would have loved to see Ben or Erin. I just love their show.
Waited a long time to get there...what fun!! Loved everything about my trip..
Great little store. Needs to up their stock some more.
Real nice atmosphere! Loved visiting there.
Fun! Also visit the Mercantile if youre in Laurel
This place is great, actually got to see Ben while we were there,Worth checking out
Nice shop. Different from the Mercantile. This is a Manly store. Food, shirts, signage and bottled pop!
If you are a fan of Hometown, then this is a must see destination. We purchased a T-shirt and a magnet. The Napiers are on maturity leave!
Only thing I didnt like about the 2 stores, they didnt have prices. Lady said they were going to put them back on soon.
If youre lucky, you can get a glimpse of Ben wiring in his shop! Try the cola-cooler for some retro favorites.
Fun place. General store with theme from DIY series Hometown. You can see men working in the wood shop through a large window from the store (see picture). Souvenir clothing, shirts, hats and even a shop apron. Large selection of cold drinks (no alcohol) in a big walk in fridge. Bens old truck out front.
Everything you would expect and more the employees are very friendly and helpful.
Very cute. Nostalgic. Staff was friendly and eager to help. Going back tomorrow.
Ben and Erins souvenir shop. And you can watch them filming here.
Hard to find items with a small town feel
Lots of neat crafted items, but sorry to say very over priced! Believe alot more would be sold if price was more reasonably.
