This is truly a hidden gem among coffee shops in Lawrence. Everything I’ve had (mostly espresso drinks) has been excellent. I just moved here and have gone in a few times in the morning. Great coffee, but the employees gave me a very unwelcoming vibe. So much so that it makes me not want to go back. Very stand offish, unsure if it is because I’m new? Anyway, I just want to go somewhere I feel welcomed.

I love this place more and more when I come here. They arent afraid to hire workers with special needs. Theyre helpful and kind. Inviting atmosphere. Makes me want to keep coming back.

I typically go here once a week. The coffee is very good, and the atmosphere is very cozy. Theres usually new art on the wall once a week. Steve will introduce himself if you go often enough, and loves talking coffee.

Service was quick and kind. The atmosphere is nice with plenty of space to sit and enjoy a book with a cup of coffee. The coffee itself was great and the baked goods we had were wonderful.

Amazing coffee! Great environment for business or catching up with old friends. Service was fast and it tasted great. Did not burn my shots, I got an iced Americano with white chocolate and an extra shot of espresso. Mason and Katie were very kind and asked me about my day and school which made me feel even more welcome. Also their kolaches are a great lunch or brunch option!

The owner is always willing to make things right for you, especially if you have to wait in line. He genuinely wants to get to know his customers, and make sure they have a memorable experience. Terrific coffee, terrific food. Cannot go wrong here.

My first time visiting and the vanilla latte was delicious! The staff was so kind and helpful when the wind knocked my coffee out of my hand and it spilled onto my front seat and cars floor. Cannot thank them enough for giving me a rag and cleaner to wipe my seat down while they made me another one on the house! Though I gave them a tip more than the price of the coffee, I will definitely be back many times to repay them the many thanks they deserve! :)

They roast their own beans every day. Probably the best coffee / espresso Ive ever had (took a bag of beans back home with me and no question they are a league above anything else I drink).They make smoothies too that are very good. Good seating for people needing to work.Every table has at least one outlet and the WiFi is fast and free.Friendly staff as well. Definite 5/5 stars.

Ive only been here once so far, but its a very cozy and chill place to be, drink prices are fair but the real highlight is the amount of drink options you have, and how you can add your own flavors or alternative milks to your coffee. I personally cant handle dairy and I was thrilled to find out that they offer multiple alternatives here, including oatmilk! I highly recommend trying this place out at least once, a better experience and drink menu then Starbucks for sure.

Had a really great experience! It was my first time coming in alone and the staff were extremely friendly in explaining certain terms that I was unfamiliar with. Although my order was initially messed up, everyone was very apologetic and quick to correct it. Coming from limited experience in drinking coffee and only from places like Starbucks, I was overwhelmed by how much everyone genuinely seemed to care. It all makes me realize the importance of smaller businesses like J&S Coffee and I will absolutely go the extra travel time to be a regular customer. Thank you for providing excellent service and I look forward to my next visit.

Great little coffee shop. Wish I could have stayed longer but I was just in and out for a latte to go. They have a wider variety of non-dairy/ dairy free milk options than most places, including coconut, almond, and soy. Staff was super friendly and personable.

Coffee is pretty good, and one of the few places that will sell you unroasted beans. But the execution is often pretty rough and you have to repeat what you ordered a few times and hope it gets through. Oh and dont come in anytime in the hour before close: you will be ignored even as you are standing right next to the register.

As much as I want to be greedy and keep this fabulous study spot to myself, I have to give kudos to the owner. Ive been in to J&S many times and Ive seen the work he has put into the place - from the outlets installed at every seat to the overall quite, comfortable, and welcoming atmosphere he has cultivated.Today, however, I was compelled to finally write a review after seeing several groups of high schoolers come through for a tour. Ill admit to eavesdropping a bit because what I heard was so sweet and passionate, clearly the owner of J&S loves what he does and cares about his customers and this town.Truly, J&S is a wonderful establishment with great people and delicious coffee!

When I visited the owner greeted me at the door. The coffee was great and everyone seemed to know one another (even though it was super busy). Seems like a great community gathering spo (e.g., the city council was having an info session that weekend.)

Lots of flavor options!My only complaint is that when I asked if they had oat milk (I’m lactose intolerant and I prefer oat milk with my coffee) after telling me no, (which is fine, I’m good with nut milks), I could hear the staff making jokes about oat milk while they made my coffee.Wouldn’t keep me from coming back, but did put a damper on my morning.

The best study spot and amazing drinks.

My wife and I came in here for the first time today and were greeted by a friendly man sitting in a booth. We later discovered he was the owner. We had briefly mentioned that this was our first time here and the owner (Steve) came up to us and began explaining the menu as well as where the coffee beans and tea leaves were from.When my wife mentioned that she enjoyed tea, Steve explained their brewing process and even brought some tasters out for her.We later found out that there is a book club for those with special needs that meet here on Monday nights and read together. This business truly cares about their customers.We will definitely be telling our friends about this shop and will be returning often!

Inviting and spacious with plenty of tables to choose from, this coffee shop has wonderful private booths to choose from with fast WiFi. The only reason 5 stars were not given was they ran out of blueberry scones when I wanted one. The Pastries, compared to scone ladies, blow her out of the water in terms of overall taste. The menu could be more organized, clean, personable with more effort, and professional rather than written by someone with sloppy handwriting. Minor complaints in the grand scheme/goals of a coffee shop. But those notices are reasonable. Coffee priced great for the taste.

Second Wave --- NOT worthy of superlatives.If you do NOT know what this is, its got pretty good coffee. If you DO know what this is, and thats what you want, its a decent place for coffee---a friendly staff and a clean-but-comfortable atmosphere.If you are a Third Wave coffee enthusiast, you might look elsewhere for a cup of Joe to savor.

J&S has some of my favorite coffees in the world and keeps a fresh supply on hand at all times to take home and brew your own. They regularly roast their own coffee and move enough beans to keep everything at the peak of quality, so when you come in for a cup, it is the best cup. Large selection of coffees, tea and additives to meet most peoples taste. Love their scones and the relaxed atmosphere to kick back and enjoy it all. Excellent waitstaff that knows their business and keep customers happy with fast and friendly service.

I have been pleasantly surprised with the lattes I have purchased here. Good flavor, right temperature. It seems to be always busy in the mornings with a regulars crowd hanging out. Interestingly, these regulars seem to be primarily over 55. Not a criticism; just unusual. The only real drawback I have is that it is awkward to wait for your to-go beverage - no clearly defined pick-up spot, and you just sort of hover in the narrow aisle.Other than that, it is fine for this fussy latte drinker! If you want a baked good, go early as they sell out quickly.

J&S has amazing coffee. Its a great place to get work done. I frequently have to bring my baby to meetings and they have a lovely play area for little ones and have always made us feel welcome!

Best place in town for coffee, u get the best service, best coffee at the best price. Real people go here because its a no attitude kind of place. Everyone is welcome and no posturing by customers with a holy than you mindset. Sure you have Wi-Fi campers and homesteading bandits (Frank) but not as bad as other places, theres always a place to sit. Really peaceful place for coffee and a chat.

Great brewed coffee! Had an Ethiopian that was perfectly roasted and sampled the Brazilian which was spot on as well. Got my wife an almond mocha which she loved and wasas good as our local shop, which is amazing!

Great little out-of-the-way coffee shop with a wide selection of specialty coffees and teas as well as some delicious baked goods (try the massive cherry vanilla scone). This is the perfect place to relax and get some studying done.

The J&S staff are extremely welcoming. I was visiting my father who goes to J&S every morning. During my visit I joined him. The staff knew nearly every customers names and orders. During my visit to Kansas they knew mine too. I brag about how awesome J&S is. Sure wish they had a place like this is NC! I look forward to my next visit with my parents because I know it means a return visit to J&S! :)

I loved the barista when I went in once she was super nice.. The second time I went in though, was auful .The workers most likely were making fun of me .they were complete bullies and felt entitled to judge me in my face. A place that makes fun of customers in theyre face is one not worth the visit .I asked for sanitier and workers there were stuttering at me to poke fun .😑
