Very Tasty Breakfast : Cheesy Grits were outstanding, Avocado Toast was one of my wifes favorites: Over the top good . The pancake was oversized, hot and delicious.Prices Were up there ( $4 coffee), but the Grits filled me up and we left happy. Not much seating, so I can see why they have waiting lines . We lucked out and were seated Quickly( only 2 of us). Even though we were right next to the kitchen, it was very interesting watching the Efficiency of their young cooks . HOT FOOD!
Solid breakfast fare but a step up from the basics. Simple changes like mixing sweet potatoes in with the skillet meal and bread that tastes homemade make a difference. The server also was a sweetie.
It was a pleasure to celebrate the election of a woman who is very special to me in this iconic Lawrence restaurant! And I will be coming back for my favorite chicken sandwich sometime soon.
Service was great. I especially appreciated how they kept filling my coffee cup - it runneth over! (Not really!) thanks!!!
Service is friendly and fast. Portions are generous and my chicken fried steak was delicious.
Very good interesting place. According to the waiting crowd, they are always busy. Food and service were great. Counter and table service. Egg dishes, sandwiches and burgers. Great pies, several to choose from. Shakes and other drinks.
So great! It was our first time here and the food was fantastic, drinks were plenty and the service was awesome! The atmosphere is so friendly and the pie is to die for!
Great takes on the traditional diner fare, including, hands down, the best chicken fried steak out there. If you still have room after your meal, the pies and cakes are pretty fantastic as well. A great local business that has given back to the community in difficult times.
Im so happy that Ladybird Diner is back. A visit to Lawrence, KS is not complete until you have lunch at Ladybird Diner. Great food, Great service!!! I love the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich!!! 👍👍
Compared to breakfast places, it really doesnt hold up. They always seemed to come out overcooked, but the drinks and desserts are fantastic! When I feel safe again to go out to eat, I might give their other menu items a try as the energy and feel of the place is quite nice and is a great spot to meet up with friends for brunch. Service and staff were always friendly and helpful.
Most wholesome restaurant experience in Lawrence. Great diner, great food, and the staff spent all of Covid giving out FREE meals! Super great please go
We felt the prices were too high for what we got. We got breakfast and it was $50 for two people but we did get pie. The food was good and the atmosphere was interesting.
Always a pleasure eating here. So glad they have weathered the pandemic storm and swing back into full operation.Apple pie and the Duchess pie. Top notch.
Great food from great people. Give them all your money.
Great breakfast, best pancake Ive ever had. Only major downside is the sides are extremely expensive and will add up if you dont pay attention.
Very nice, small restaurant. Very friendly staff and great home made food. Fries were awesome.
Amazing little place and peaceful atmosphere. The serve there was awesome. The staff there are so friendly and truly care about their community
Glad to see they are back open. Always AWESOME.
We were seated pretty quickly at the bar on a Saturday morning, and waited on promptly!I got the potato hash, and they fried it up with some golden beets and served it with this wonderfully savory green tomatillo sauce. My husband got the Dakota Texan and we ordered a side of cheesy grits. Everything was SO delicious and flavorful, and we look forward to more weekend brunch dates here ❤️
Ladybird did so much for our community during the pandemic, and theyre back, just as good as (if not better than) ever. The energy the flows in the restaurant is so pure, and the food tasted like it was made with literal love.
I had the avocado toast breakfast and keylime pie. It was delicious! 😋Our server was lovely and pleasant even though it was crazy busy.
I frequented this diner when I was at KU and after graduating and leaving Lawrence. Located conveniently in downtown with AMAZING homemade pies and superb food. Chicken fried steak was my go to for a big breakfast after Saturday morning rowing practices.Aside from amazing food and their friendly staff members, Meg the owner has been a huge part of relieving Covid hardships in the community by selflessly closing the diner and providing free sack lunches and groceries to those of us in need. Cant think of a better establishment to support and be proud of!
Old fashioned diner food with delicious pies. Friendly and fast service.
Excellent food, great service, a bit pricey but very much worth it
First time there. I got the BLT. It was excellent.
This is probably the worst restaurant I have ever been too. It took us about 1 hour to get seated, which is fine, places get busy so we understood. But then it took another hour to get our food out. We ordered a couple of eggs and a couple of pancakes, the papas bravas, and the veggie hash. When the food came out it was cold. If you go here please do not get the veggie hash or the papas bravas they are truly terrible. When I got the papas bravas the sweet potato was burnt, yet somehow it was still cold as well as the eggs too. The veggie hash was under seasoned and also came cold. The servers were good, but whoever is working in the kitchen should get some retraining or something. Honestly, if you’re visiting Lawrence this is the last place you want to go for food.
Ladybird is a precious little cafe in downtown Lawrence. We loved everything, the food, the excellent service and cafe vibe. Everything was prepared on site. They even make their own sausage which was delicious. Really would have liked to try some pie or a donut, they looked SO good! We went in around 8 a.m. on a Saturday. There wasnt a wait at that time but there was a line out the door by the time we left. I cant wait to try some other dishes next time we are in Lawrence.
The staff and ownership are very attentive and caring. The prices are a bit to steep for me.
They are back folks!! Very welcoming staff, great brunch options, and fair prices.
Wonderful staff! Hopefully the city will get their liquor license renewed for bloody Marys
I had very high hopes for this place after seeing so many good reviews and seeing that the line was spilling out of the door but I was let down in just about every way. My table as well as several others had water constantly dripping on us and our seat from the air conditioning above, the music was so loud my wife and I had to yell at each other, my order came out incorrect, and the food was well below expectations. Hashbrowns were frozen hashbrown patties and my toast was black on both sides. Im typically not very picky but Ive gotta say I was pretty disappointed in this place. Not worth the price or the wait.
We took our family of 8 for lunchtime on a Saturday. It took a while to get our large groups sat. I would recommend parties of 4 &under. The space reminded me of a 50s/60s diner. The decorations were spot on. The food was Great. I had the chicken fried steak, you cant go wrong it. The coffee was good and hot. The only drawback was the side booths had seats under the dripping A/C ducts that kept us nice and cool by Intermittent spritzed from above. Though, come to think of it it was 100% humidity and 90° outside, so maybe it wasnt a negative.
Lovely to be back... plan to take home leftovers. You go, Meg, and your whole crew... 👌
Greatest hangover breakfast joint in the world. If youre feeling the night before, go to Ladybird.
Delicious food, good coffee, amazing pie and solid tunes the whole meal! 🥧☕🎶
Love this place. Fantastic food and service.
Ladybird was my favorite place to be the morning after a night out in Lawrence. Their chicken fried steak is so big that they give you a sticker for eating it all in one sitting, and it’s so good I did the challenge without even realizing there was one. Once you’re stuffed with whatever delicious food you decide to get, you have the option of getting some of the best pie in the state of Kansas. I recommend getting the triple berry pie warmed up a la mode. Sadly lady bird is closed due to the pandemic, but it’s owner and staff have pivoted to providing the community with meals in a time where many people are struggling. Ladybird is great for the stomach, but also good for the soul!
This diner and its staff are not just noble and admirable for their dedication to lifting the spirits of those less fortunate, their creations are impeccably flavored and bursting with good feeling. The recent chicken stir fry was over the top. Its like returning home after a long absence. Just comfortable and satisfying. I raise my glass to you ladies.Cheers
Tasty food and good service!
What a wonderful cafe to visit right on Mass Street in downtown Lawrence. We come here every year while visiting family in Kansas and the atmosphere is always warm and welcoming. There is always a great selection of pie and a delicious assortment of doughnuts.Ladybird Diner is a great place to bring children as the staff is super friendly. Theres some toys in the front for kids to grab and play with. There is also a small selection of local beer from Free State Brewery. And, they even serve the beer in can or bottle with its very own coozy. Its hard to go wrong at the Ladybird Diner.
I love this quirky place! Great food, but known for their out of this world pie. I had the berry cheesecake pie which is kind of like a cobbler, accompanied by a strong decaf coffee. Decadent and delicious! The wait staff was prompt, professional, and thoroughly knowledgeable about menu items. This cozy diner has lots of charm including retro booths, and fun counter seating. Family friendly and a very good value for your dinning dollar. Highly recommend this charming downtown Lawrence restaurant.
Jesus. Fed multiples, within load one fish. Lady bird gave us today. Three beautiful smiles. The best Humility of all kindness, compassion and love. All in a meal. Love to love u. Mask up 6.5 please
Great people delicious food awesome service
Great servers and awesome food!
Definitely comfort food! But oh-so scrumptious!! I would consider the prices mid-range, basing that in comparison to places like The Corner in KC & other comfort food restaurants... HOWEVER, I was absolutely willing to pay a tiny bit extra because the freshly-squeezed lemonade and limeade, the fries, the main dishes, etc. were so good that I have dreams about Ladybirds food after I eat there!! I give Ladybird two YUMS up!
Please change your website to CLOSED. The website said you were open so we drove all the way out there from Kansas City, MO looking forward to once again having an awesome breakfast only to be disappointed in finding you still closed!! Hope you can reopen soon.
Sadly, theres a no guns sign posted prominently near the door, so they arent getting my business.
Dont walk by this diner! Good food and an all around great experience.
Amazing food, the pies were out of this world.
Waited too long to partake in this place.
Friendly service and excellent food!
Ladybird Diner serves the community during this pandemic. Which is very sweet of them to do.
Grear food, service and atmosphere!
Always awesome...
They did not treat me with any respect. Seems like another hipster hang out for the “cool kids” who have been brainwashed by social media. The food is mediocre, the service was garbage, and the atmosphere is way to immature for any self respecting adult to want to be there for more than a few minutes. Find a more “grown-up” establishment if you are a mature adult who wants to have a nice time eating out.
Arrived around 1145am and it was packed!! Hubby and I were worried about time because we had an appointment to get to. However we were seated quickly and explained we were in a bit of a rush. They pushed our order out very quickly!Maybe a bit too quickly as the pancakes were not cooked all the way through. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful and insisted on having the chefs make us a new one so it didnt ruin our experience. When we got another pancake it was the same story, the pancake was not cooked thoroughly. Again our waitress was absolutely incredible!! She made sure to have a conversation with the chefs and the owner and took the pancakes off our bill. With several apologies. Even tho it wasnt cooked, the flavor was great!!We also snagged several slices of pie which were amazing!!I will definitely be back and recommending this place to everyone I know!!
Countess pie is good
Coming home. Comfort in an old friend. Contemplative acts of Compassion. Safety and satisfaction in good neighbors. Ladybird Pie brings a level of contentment akin to many great things. The folx here whip up beauties that serve as the crown to any and all Larryville homecomings. How can I give wordsOf sufficient praise and thanksWorthy of Poet Meg?She’s the community Laureate of nourishment & grace all good towns deserve. Thank you, Meg. For the Pie; the stories; the vibe.****Buy the book, buy a sleeping bag and lunch for someone in need, and buy the whole damn Pie to share with ‘framily’.
I was back to Lawrence for the first time in 20 years. George Gotto and Family too k me there for lunch. Food was absolute amazing. Like a small town friendly, homemade pies and the entrees were spot on perfect.
Love the set-up, great food, owner and staff are beyond nice to everyone.
Tiny menu. Only 5 options . Ended up going somewhere else.
A great place with delicious food and excellent service. It can be a bit of a wait, especially on weekends, but it is well worth it. And since its located right on Mass. Street you can window-shop while you wait. I recommend the fried steak (get the ½ plate).
First time there today. Oh my goodness! My cheeseburger with added bacon was out of this world! Even the bun was delicious. And to top it off I took home a piece of chocolate pie that was fantastic! Great place to go!
Always enjoy coming here. Great food, good prices. Atmosphere is super funky and cool. Servers are nice and communicative and will make sure youre good even if its super busy. I wouldnt pass up getting a slice of pie while youre there.
One of the absolute best places to eat in Lawrence! I make it a point to eat here at least once every time I visit. Everything on the menu is incredible, but the fried steak is my favorite. Its better than most of the fried steaks I can get back in Texas!
Meg is awesome. Apple pie is a must!!!!!
Stopped in while driving from St Louis to Colorado and loved every minute there. We sat by the window and my kids enjoyed the toy selection they had by the door. Good food and great coffee. Will definitely make the short detour again as we make that drive at least twice a year.
This place was probably 2-1/2 stars. Visited for breakfast. Of the five people in my group, two got biscuits/gravy, two got short stack pancakes and one got the diner breakfast. All were just fine. B/gravy were served with crumbly dry biscuits. Pancakes were nothing memorable and the eggs were done to my request. Was hoping for a more broad breakfast selection but found it to be pretty limiting. Im just not a burger for breakfast type of person.Service was fine. My coffee cup was always topped off and the staff were friendly.
When will you open again it’s been too long
Ladybird is DELISH! I love their breakfast and their lunch options. They are always busy so go early! It’s worth the wait! The atmosphere is super fun and the bar area is great for all ages. Definitely check it out for some delicious food and fun!
Had a tenderloin sandwich topped with tomatoes, lettuce and new to me on a sandwich, pimiento cheese. It was excellent. Everything on the menu looked great. Our wait staff was friendly and kept the tea glass filled. That is a thumbs up for me. We will be going back!
Good spot
This restaurant is my favorite. I go to many restaurants but to this restaurant I keep coming back again and again. The stuff is very warm and the food they place on your table is so tasty. I never decline to have a decent meal in this place. I recommend this place with pleasure.
Great food and service!!
