I went to this diner once before and was so pleased with the food and service, but then recently I went again and was disappointed. The waiter was lacking good people and customer service skills. The food had no taste and I was displeased with the presentation. I went out of my way to travel 40mins to this diner over other locations to just be completely unhappy with my food and service .
Just ok. Friendly staff and everything is reasonably priced, but the quality of the food is hit or miss. My wife ordered a short stack with sausage. The pancakes were meh and certainly not light and fluffy the way pancakes should be. On the flip side the sausage was great. I ordered a tilapia dinner that came with soup and salad. Chose a matzoh ball soup and it was just ok, however, the salad looked like it was 3 years old. The tilapia looked great (see pic) and was fantastic tasting. It was on a bed of spinach that was super watery so with the plus you have a minus. Overall just ok. Not the worst, but you can do better.
The food is just as dusty as the decor. Its early Saturday afternoon. You could easily count on one hand how many people were there and we still couldnt get good service. The guy who seated us groaned and rolled his eyes (ok maybe hes having a bad day). The waitress was nice but hacked a cough right into her hands infront of us and the other table she was serving :-( . There were dust on over filled sugar packets containers, the window seal. Decor & interior needs maintenance. No bad or old smell went you walk in though. Nats and flies hovering around. Waitress brought the butter out and it already had bits of bread crumbs in it. :-| The food looked good when it arrived but tasteless when eatten. The French Toast is greasy :-(. Pork sausage & pancakes are passible. Bacon & eggs was ok. We had to keep our head affixed to the plate so that a nat wouldnt land on our food (so annoying but what can u do its nature). I thought, maybe if i was sick this would be a place to come too since the food wasnt overly seasoned and plain. NOPE The last bite of french toast tasted like cleaner and I spit it back out as quick as i could so i wouldnt get food poisoning. I was so done and wanted to get out of there. Our waitress forgot us and never came back to check on us or give us the check so we had to get up ourselves and ask for the check to leave. One waiter apologized & printed one for us. The woman at the cash register had no manners. She never looked me or my husband in the eye to greet him, give him the receipt, take his money, and even to say goodbye her head was down looking at the register. So rude. She wouldnt acknowledge us at all. Didnt even ask if the food and service was ok. The price was great but dang sure not for this kind of service and quality control over food. Never ever again & thank God neither one of us got sick that day.
The diner is very bad the waiter even responded McDonalds sells hash browns when I asked if they have hash browns. The butter for my pancakes was put very poorly because half the butter was not even in the cup and the cup was even squeezed it was terrible. The waiters also had terrible gestures toward us. Im never coming to this place again.
The food is good. The service even better. Kathy, our waitress was super friendly without being intrusive, helpful, accommodated an error that we made when ordering. The coffee kept coming. We had a big group and she didnt miss a beat. Clean place.
I always enjoyed the food and beautiful décor in this diner for many years. The menu was extensive and the service was always friendly. Great place to meet and socialize with friends and family. Plenty of Montclair Univ. students and faculty enjoyed this spot. Although it is centrally located, there has been a years long road construction project impeding many customer’s ability to enter the diner’s parking lot. Unfortunately, that issue along with the pandemic has caused Six Brothers Diner to close permanently, effective June 2020. So sad to lose another great NJ business.
Came here very late with some a group of friends and were quickly seated and attended to. Our waitress was very funny and pleasant. Food was pretty good too. The chocolate cake was the highlight for me!
PROS: This diner was very clean and had a good amount of tables. The menu was extensive, The food was good, nicely priced, and came out on time. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable along with having a sense of urgency in getting the orders out.CONS: finding the entrance to this place was tricky. Almost missed it.OVERALL: This is a great diner to go to. They can accommodate a lot of people with fast and good tasting food!
Sadly, we had a horrible experience. Prior to ordering our meal we asked to have our drinks in to-go cups because of fear of germs with the cups at some restaurants being stacked wet, those cups become breeding grounds for bacteria. The waitress understood and was very sympathetic but the night manager absolutely refused and said that it could not be done because the owner would not allow it. It escalated into a much bigger issue than it needed to be because the manager was rude and loud, to the point that we had to leave. Its a cup, why be so stubborn? So much for customer service, might be why the place was absolutely dead. After this very negative experience with the management, I will never go there again. We are now happily having our sodas at the diner down the road... In to-go cups. Guess this will be our new favorite diner from now on
I love six brothers I go here a lot every time there is no wait. I get seated very quickly the food is great the waiters are all so nice especially Ali he is the nicest waiter and is very funny and is always in a good mood. and the food is great I definitely recommend coming here to eat
My school often goes here for dinners after our plays and musicals. Its a nice diner with very friendly staff. They are very accommodating. I highly recommend.
Always a great lovely place to eat. Not only for breakfast but for anytime. Very family oriented. Super friendly place. Food is amazing. Q
This place has good food and really great service! It is very relaxed and chill. You’ll enjoy the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant!
Not our first time there. BOTH food and service were SUPERB! Prices were reasonable. Would not think of not coming again. They are great!
One of my favorite diners. The main guy tries to make jokes sometimes. I wonder if he does it so you like him or the restaurant more. Customers are treated well but not in an impressive timely fashion.
Consistent NJ Diner experience. Good food of great variety. Wait staff is generally attentive. The older area of the diner is growing tired. Recent roadway reconfiguring was not kind to their location, but worth the effort to visit.
My wife and I went there for lunch on Sunday afternoon 2/2 at 1:30 PM. We both had hamburgers. The burgers came out surprisingly quickly and the meal was room temperature, not hot. We did not complain at the time because we were in a rush. We did not eat our full meal and brought about half of it home. The next morning neither of us felt well, we had upset stomach’s, and we both had to use the bathroom all morning. In the afternoon and early evening we both had headaches. I called to complain to the manager and she was very rude to me and said “what do you expect me to do about it?” When I complained further she hung up on me. When I called back a second time she hung up on me again. She would not give me her name, and she would not tell me the owners name.😡😡😡😡😡
Its your typical diner. Our waiter Tom was very good. Janet is always amazing. Will come back again.
A great diner with even greater food! I have not had a bad meal here yet. The burgers are fantastic especially with the burger and beer special they do, I believe on Wednesdays. My wife took a chance and ordered a chicken parmigiana dinner complete with soup, salad and choice of pasta. The sauce was super delicious and the two pieces of chicken cutlet were enormous. The chicken was super moist with the breading done right with Italian breadcrumbs! The salad had olives and feta cheese in it and the soup was full of flavor (she upgraded to French Onion).Go here now!!!
The milkshakes are SUPER ARTIFICIAL. Ordered a chocolate and strawberry but were a total disappointment. The burgers taste old, like a cheap freezer burn patty. The only good things on the menu are their curly fries & mozzarella sticks. Staff members weren’t friendly. Will not be going back!!!
Unfortunately had to close due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic & the over 3 years of construction going on near this business & US-46, making conditions hard enough for Six Brothers Diner to run. They were “temporarily closed” when COVID-19 pandemic started making the rounds in in NJ mid March 2020. As of this review date (6/16/2020), you cannot eat indoors in NJ (legally that is), and it’s probably too late for Six Brothers Diner to consider outfitting outdoor seating.I’ve never personally been here, and the food looks to be a typical Greco-American diner style, something which NJ has plenty of, but it had its place to serve locals in Little Falls/Montclair/Clifton, the university students in nearby Montclair State University, and travelers far and nearby. It’ll be missed! Remember to support your local diners, they need it in times like this.
It was nice. A large selection. Some of the food didnt seem hot or fresh.
Visited this place with friends. Tasty and fast. It was important to us. I recommend this place
This will be my 1st review, for six brothers diner, i have visit this place i will say about 4xs and the food have been excellent!!!! Great portions, great flavors, always serve u with a smile, thanks brothers.....
First ever visit,Comfortable booth, large menu, and a gluten free menu too, which is refreshing. Food was decent, but the service was not very good (slow, not attentive at all, and one of the most rude attitudes from our waitress I have experienced in quite awhile). It was clear that she viewed my questions as an inconvenience and she was really quite rude. I would consider coming again and hoping for a different t waitress but honestly with so many food options in the general area, may never return. Time will tell.
An hour of my life I will never get back. Service was dismal, order was unbelievably incorrect and god forbid you have a nut allergy...
My experience tonight was everything was very good. The food was on point. Place is a bit dated but thats part of the charm of this diner.
Genuinely disgusting. My food was cold, tasteless, and required no culinary skills to make. Processed cheese and canned sauces are their signature. I left 80% of my food untouched (I was alone) and the manager asked if she could clear my dish from me; doesn’t the fact that I’m “finished” despite eating almost nothing tell you something about how I enjoyed my meal? I didn’t want to send the food back because I didn’t want to make a scene, but I would’ve gladly communicated my experience if given the opportunity. Go literally ANYWHERE else.
Fantastic waiter! Great service! Food was out fast!
The water tasted bad, as did the unsweetened iced tea. Omelette was just ok. Fries were good though and the customer service was great.
Food was good even though it took a little longer than it should have seeing as we were the only 2 there. Our waiter was very nice, but the guy at the register (guessing 1 of the managers/owners) had the personality of a cardboard box... hope the other 5 brothers are a little more appreciative of customers.
Still the best pancakes I’ve ever had. I try to make a special trip from the City whenever I can just for those wonderful, beautiful pancakes.
Its a good, solid Jersey diner the way youd expect it to be. Plenty of choices, all done right.
OMG!! FIRST TIME THERE, AND I LOVED IT OUR WAITER TOM WAS GREAT!! THE BUS BOY PABLO WAS NICE TOO!! GREAT EXPERIENCE!! THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD!! ALSO ! THE MANAGER WAS SO NICE AND FRIENDLY ALSO!! DIFFERENTLY GOING AGAIN!!
The Diner and the staff are amazing. They make me feel welcome when I go there. Great personality and great customer service. The food expecially mozzarella stick are great!! I recommend anyone to go to Six Brother Diner.
We had a group of 12 people for a holiday dinner. The diner was very accommodating. There was plenty of food and the service was great. Reasonable prices as well.
Easily one of the best classic NJ diners around. Great, attentive service, fresh & tasty food, and their mozzarella sticks are among the best that have ever been in my mouth. Highly recommended.
Decent warm food, quick service, friendly staff. Gets a bit crowded at times due to close proximity of Montclair State University. Especially on Sundays, but the wait times are usually short. Overall, youll enjoy the time you have here with friends, or family, or even on your own. ENJOY!
Quick simple diner thats great for those late night cravings! There salads are huge and filling, burgers great, disco fries on point and their sandwiches are pretty good. Go here for simple, quick, good quality food! While their menu is big, keep it simple and youll enjoy your experience. Personally havent had much of their entrée section as I keep it simple and love their burgers. Place is huge so theres never a wait.
Went there yesterday (10 am on a Sunday)... Very good food. Nice $ Service was quick. Ordered Eggs Benedict with a poached egg. It was made correct. My daughter ordered Blue berry waffles, they used fresh blue berries. EVERYTHING TASTED GREAT.
Food was good. My 71 year old sister-in-law had to stand to eat because no one would get or give her a chair.
I just love the whole concept of this diner. The location is very accessible. As for the food and service, completely above the average diner. Lastly, the quality and variety of desserts is the icing on the cake, no pun intended.
I liked that I could have a mimosa with breakfast! Good food and service. Its a large diner so there was no waiting to be seated.
Theyve Closed For Good......Just As Well.
Not so good! Not horrible but not good. Middle of the rd.
We just attended a party in the Cellar banquet room. The room was dirty, the bar was the same and the glasses were not clean at all. The food was okay, but the bathrooms were DISGUSTING. One roll of toilet paper for 3 stalls, in the ladies room. Couldnt turn sink on and had a very STRONG urine smell. Toilets were filthy. Mens room had mold all over it. Wait staff was overaccomodiating, and very nice. Too bad that have to work in such a filthy place.
Always a solid choice. When you hear about New Jersey diners this is what they are talking about.
Giving them one Stars because I ordered an apple pie with ice cream guess what they had no apple pie how can you not have apple pie at a diner, they ran out on a weekend no less. So ordered another pie and they didnt have that either they ran out. So I ended up ordering an apple turnover with vanilla ice cream on the side was hard did not taste good the apple turnover. This was around 3a.m. in the morning and the place was empty. Not happy.
The worst service and meal I have ever had. The waitress was not warm and friendly, basically threw stuff on the table in front of me and walked away. The tables are super high...Im tall...I have no idea how they thought the height of these tables are standard. Now i see why there werent a lit of cars in the lot. I didnt finish my coffee or salad. It was truly, horrendous.
Ive been going to this Diner for years. Everyone is always nice and welcoming. The food is great and also reasonably priced. They have a good variety for whatever your in the mood for.
I use to feel bad about this place being blocked by the Route 46 construction...but after having gone there today, maybe their decline in business is more so due to the food. The cream of broccoli soup had huge chunks of broccoli in it, so large that youd have to chew it in half. My tuna melt was lukewarm at best, the American cheese on it was meh, and the fries were also lukewarm.Nothing special here.
It is very difficult to find the entrance to the parking lot because of its problematic location on the highway. The owners seem to realize this and provide plenty of illuminated signs to guide diners. Inside you find your typical diner fare at moderate to low prices and never much wait for a table.
6.18.18 was the hottest day of 2018 so far,-- 97° with a heat index of 100° -- Management at Six Brothers thought it was a good idea to run the AC ONLY in the foyer where you enter & the immediate area by the cash register. The waitress gave us menus & took our drink order. I asked why the AC wasnt on.Her response:----> They turned it off. I ask--> WHY would they turn the AC off on the hottest day of the year? Her response:--> I DONT KNOW --- Waiting for our drinks, myself, the 82 year old woman & 90 year old man I was with decided it was way too disgustingly hot to stay there. The waitress brings our drinks, I tell her unless they turn the AC on, please bring our check because we would be leaving. This time she said, OH, IT BROKE DOWN I responded with, THATS A FAR CRY FROM WHAT YOU TOLD US WHEN WE CAME IN WHEN YOU SAID THEY TURNED IT OFF. BUT IT WAS MIRACULOUSLY WORKING BY THE REGISTER & FOYER --->I looked, no one working on the roof, in or around the AC units themselves. She just lied because they turned it off intentionally.DONT BOTHER WASTING YOUR TIME OR MONEY THERE!!!
Was very good today. Had roast beef and swiss on roll. Warmed. With a small cup of gravy on the side.So good.
My waitress Kathy was wonderful!!! Food was very good also.
My lunch was excellent!! Im a very picky eater and today I had no complaints. I had eggplantparmesan and angel hair pasta, also I bought home enough for another meal. Alot of food!!
Been my favorite diner for years. Great staff overnight. They always take care of late night munchies
Food was good. Access is a little rough from Rt. 46. since there is construction going on. Best bet is to go the back way or coming off of the on-ramp. Lunch specials M-F.
The food was under cooked and me and my family though up after eating the under cooked food
Good service food at a good price
Perfect Jersey diner. Great food, great service. We stop in whenever we visit our son at Montclair State University.
Some Ho that I picked up on my dirt bike she was hitchhiking unfortunately Im not driving at the moment so you know the nice person that I am I picked her up like I said on my dirt bike and she bought me breakfast I had some eggs benedict it was pretty damn good actually. After breakfast we went and had some Dunkin Donuts Coffee. Then she massaged my feet for a little over an hour a few other things happen Unfortunately I cant remember her name though. Anyway it was really good though glad we met!
Food was good, service not so much. After being seated waited 10 mins for a server. Then waited again for check to be able to leave.
Made a quick lunch stop today. Glad I did the food was great. The waiter had a great sense of humor. Food was out quick just an overall enjoyable experience.
I visited this location while in town with family. I wasnt impressed with the overwhelming menu and lackluster waitstaff. No personalities. Seafood bisque was tasty. Gyro was not authentic at all. Not willing to substitute fries for anything. Not even given the option to pay extra. They were out of my first choice of food. Even the bathroom needed an overhaul. Leaking flusher and double sinks in a single toilet room without a stall.I dont see myself going back.
Very nice place. Great food and friendly staff.
Good variety for dinner and large dessert selection! Kids satisfied! Clean and good service
Coffee was really good! My eggs over medium were beyond runny, but to be fair most places dont cook the eggs well enough either. Decent service, would go back.
Six Brothers is a classic New Jersey diner that serves American and Mediterranean (lots of Greek) food. I have been there many times since I can remember. They have plenty of soup to choose from and they have a seemingly much bigger menu than other diners in the area. The service can be hit or miss however they make up for that in their courtesy and hospitality. This isnt Emrils kitchen, but the food is still good. Coffee tastes fresh all around the clock. They are known for their baked goods. The atmosphere is also surprisingly pleasant for a busy place. There are the rare times when a rowdy group comes in but that happens when its late. This is most likely because there is a college and several bars in the area. There is a banquet hall in the basement of the building. You can still have a normal conversation even though the music may be heard (muffled).
Food is very good but the booths are set up to high. I felt like i was at a kid at the grown up table.
Thank you for our beloved mother, Zambias re pass! The team were wonderful and the food was delicious! Love you all xoxoxo
Food literally gave me food poising. Waited a really long time for the food. Place is kinda cheap looking but the prices are good. Waiter never brought the check, we had to go to the front ourselves
Well priced, good food. But pretty crappy service. I was in with my girlfriend a little while ago and we had been in there for maybe 45 minutes - 1 hour total causing no problems or anything like that whatsoever. The waitress came over to us and said Hey Im gonna need this table open again soon, so... and gave us a weird look. I understand restaurants need to keep people flowing in and out, but at least 60-70% of the many tables in just the room we were in (there are multiple sections) were open and it was by no means busy. I cant think of any reason why the wait staff would treat paying customers this way (especially for a place trying to appeal to local MSU college students who might want to hang out), and for that reason Im hesitant to return.
Fantastic food and service was remarkable. Nice spot
HORRIBLE SERVICE, False advertisement, don’t expect 50% any appetizers the manager will curse and say he does not have to give you anything... Other than that good food, and good wait staff.. HORRIBLE MANAGER AND SERVICE.
Extensive parking. Extensive menu with specials. Very courteous hostess.
Underwhelmed, very bad experience. Sat for approximately 45 minutes without getting our 2 breakfast items. Felt ignored as no one checked in on us. Bussing staff aggressively dropped off waters at table, no smile or attention. Waitress resolved situation but the experience was not enjoyable. Other families arrived after us and got their food well before us. The other patrons looked pleased however we werent. The bathrooms were awkward and need remodeling urgently. I will not be going back to Six Brothers Diner.
Breakfast was good and fast. I ate to much. The staff is very friendly.
They do not deserve even one star. Mozzarella sticks came out cold. The chicken soup tasted rancid. The chicken tenders were not cooked through and smelled rancid. We ordered Turkey burgers that looked delicious when we flipped the top bun over the bread had mold all over the top. I will never go here again. Absolutely disgusting.
Good food and great atmosphere. Omg the mozzarella sticks are so good.
Service is good but food quality leaves a lot to be desired.
Worst customer service experience. We ordered 2 orders of GREEK YOGURT & FRESH BLUEBERRY PANCAKES ($8.45) From the breakfast menu. The waitress was nice, came back and asked us if we wanted strawberries or blueberries with the yogurt, without a second thought we chose one of each. When we asked for the check the bill totaled more than $30 and we hadnt ordered any drinks. I went up to the register looked at the menu to check the price. I told the man and he made the change. After everything was settle the man and the waitress came back to our table as we were getting ready to leave and started screaming that we were wrong that we ordered 4 separate meals. It seemed that the waitress wanted to look good in front of the manager. The manager kicked us out. Very poor customer service, we felt insulted, the manager almost hit one of my friends with the menu. This happen on May 6th at around 1am.
Very disappointed. Food cooked without flavor. Not seasoned fish fillets made the food impossible to eat. We thought that long time preparing entrees was because too much love putting in preparation. But surprised! Food came like passing through hot water. Simple like that!
Great food, great service, fairly priced. They give you A LOT for what you pay for, and the staff like to joke around with you, too
Food was the worst ever asked for money back dont go there
The burgers were good but everythings else is overcooked if you go here just get a burger and DO NOT get the bacon or the monte cristo.
A very bad experience. A waiter apparently addicted to drugs berated our waitress in front of us. The manager, fully aware of what happened, didnt even come over to us to address the situation. We hope the waitress finds another place to work that appreciates her.
Great food. Good selections
Our waitress Jennifer was the absolute best! We won the championship in case you were wondering, wheres our champagne? Lol
The food is fresh the waitresses are very persistent and the counterman which is the manager is the most nicest man youll ever meet very accommodating food is good
The only reason for the two stars was our waitress, I guess who was the manager, was very nice and attentive. However the food, was terrible...the pancakes were salty, the turkey bacon over cooked, eggs flavorless and runny, & even the French fries was a mess that we do not even need to discuss. This place needs a new chef ASAP but for now, I will not be back...
The food is so good. My compliments to the chef. I never remember what I order because I’m always drunk when I’m there.....I always throw up afterwards...not from the food...wait a minute....
Food is great, staff is friendly and the service is quick. Try the mozzarella sticks!!
