When my mother passed away, she left me 3 glass porcelain dogs, which she had for 40 years (without a scratch on any of them) through 3 moves, 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. When we moved her things out of her house, the largest dog broke. I contacted Fine Art Restoration and sent the dog there, hoping to have it repaired. I didn’t think it could happen. I was stunned when I received the piece back. I can’t thank them enough. Henri is truly a restorative master!
I only consulted over the phone about a restoration project. I anticipate using this service in the future but have yet to do so. In consultation the person was polite, informative, and patient with all of my questions.
Henri is so professional, kind and conscientious. He repaired a very sentimental ceramic piece that my sister designed for me. It came our beautifully!! I would trust him with any type of artistic repairs. He is the best at his profession!!
Fine Art Restoration provides great work with a quick turnaround and fairly reasonable prices. A wooden mask I own that was quite old had been dropped and had a sizable crack down the middle. Henri did a good job of putting the mask together so it holds its integrity while showing minimal exterior damage. This was the only piece I took there, but it looks like knowledge and skills are pretty broad for many different art repairs.
I have a vintage hand-carved stone statue of Quan Yin from China that suffered multiple age-related fractures along some fault lines in the stone. It is 38 inches tall and it is a beautiful (and quite heavy) piece that has been in our living room for over 10 years. After doing some online research I contacted Henri at Fine Art Restoration. He sounded quite confident that he could make the repairs. I carefully took the piece to his studio and he discussed in some detail just how he proposed to restore the piece. Henri is an interesting fellow, and I very much enjoyed seeing his studio and talking to him about his work. While there I had a chance to look at some of the other projects he was working on for other clients. He does some amazing work on pieces of all makes of materials. His ability to mate and fix the broken pieces is one thing. But the most amazing part of his work is his ability to match color and finish on any material. Now there is the art. It took some weeks for him to complete this job, but I was happy to wait for what turned out to be a perfect restoration. As it turned out I had a smaller stone piece that required his expertise. Once again, he did a great job. Henri’s work is not cheap. However if you have a piece that you love and it looks like there is no way anyone could ever fix it, take it to Henri. Chances are he can do it, and it will look like new.
Henri totally saved me last summer with speed and professionalism all to a bargain!I was on vacation in LA staying at my friends house while he was traveling. Unfortunately I accidentally sent a really nice stone box to the floor shattering a part of the lid. I didnt want to leave the house worse than I found it but I was in a tight spot since I was going home to Europe in just a couple of days. So I was looking up art restoration businesses in LA with low hopes but emailed the ones I could find describing my situation. Answer after answer came back in but no one could do anything that fast, no one could do it even within a month! By then Id be long gone. Finally Henri answered, he said that he could fix it before I left if I came over with it right away! The lid had been broken once before and my friend had tried to glue it back together himself doing a pretty ugly job, so Henri was not only able to fix what I broke, but he also redid the old homemade glue job making the lid look even better than I found it!An amazing job, charging only a fraction of the value of his work and all done so quickly that I could come back and pick it up before I left for Sweden! If I ever need restoration work done in LA again, hes my obvious choice. His dedication and love for his craft is remarkable and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend him to a friend. Thank you Henri!
Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Adequate parking in the area.
I have a large, beautiful sea shell that is very sentimental to me and was accidentally broken by a cleaning company. I did not think it could be put back together, as it is very thin in many places and was broken in so many pieces. I found Fine Art Restoration online, read Henris reviews and decided to give it a shot. This shell means so much to me, so I was nervous at first to drop it off, but immediately, Henri made me feel so comfortable. When I saw his studio full of so many different ceramics, statues, and art that other people in my position dropped off, and because of Henris professionalism and expertise in restoring, I had no doubts about leaving my shell with him. Henri called me when my shell was ready, and I honestly was blown away when I saw it again in his studio! I was in tears to see it put back together perfectly, but then, when I really started to look at it, I couldnt tell where he had bonded it, filled in the cracks, and re-painted some of the color on top! He had blended it all perfectly, and I couldnt have been more grateful or happy with his repair. I would highly recommend Henri to anyone who is in my position who needs a sentimental item repaired and restored. Henri is also a really nice, funny guy who is very compassionate and professional. Thank you for fixing my precious shell, Henri.
I had a small, vintage, Beatrice Wood vase with a shattered lip. The broken section was in several pieces, and the glaze was mottled blue and silver iridescent, making it very difficult to reproduce; so I had little faith that anyone would be able to make it look whole and new again. But I sent the vase and the shards from the lip, to Henri Laborde. I checked in with Henri by e-mail several times, and he always responded promptly with an update. Finally, my vase arrived and it was perfect! I could hardly believe my eyes. The damaged area was invisible. The pot looked as if it had never even been broken.Henri is a master craftsman, and apparently, a little bit of a magician as well. I recommend him very highly.
Henri did an absolutely amazing job repairing a family heirloom that I felt was irreparable. It was shattered in pieces and I never thought that anyone would be able to fixed it, boy was I wrong. Henri is honest, efficient and a true professional.
Henri was professional and courteous. He inspected the pieces I brought in, walked me through the process of what he would be doing to them, and also explained what he thought would be best for the pieces themselves (which was also the less costly option). When my husband and I came back we were very surprised. We couldnt even tell that our ceramic piece had been broken, and when we display it next to its twin, it matches perfectly. The glass piece we gave him also looked amazing.Thank you!
Fine Arts Restoration has always done a fantastic job and are a pleasure to work with. You always accommodated me and also worked very well with my insurance company. It seems that you can restore anything. Your business is a big help to those people who have broken or had pieces broken from earthquakes, shipping or dropping. Those very special pieces you fix with such perfection.
Repaired our large pottery handthrowen bowl. Absolutely perfect!!!! I can not say enough about the perfection Henri’s work. A delightful person too.As someone said, it does take a long time but oh so worth it.So glad to have found Henri.
This guy is AMAZING! Henri is not only a sweet person with a great attitude but, he obviously loves what he does. He has fixed a tiny porcelain figurine, a large ceramic bowl and a broken, cracked and chipped expensive handmade plate for my bosses and did an IMPECCABLE job. The thing I love most about him other than his talents of restoring these items to practically brand new is the fact that he is very very thorough in his estimates and what the possible problems could be in the fixes. The ceramic bowl for instance: the three pieces it was in when I brought it could be put back together but, because of the wear and tear over time that had caused the problem could have made it still visible. Could have had discoloration. He wanted to warned me that though he could put it back together and make it look SORT OF new that potentially it may not be exactly what I hoped. This kind of knowledge of the way each material works and will react with his tools and processes is the reason why i trust him. He is honest and fair and very reasonably priced. I would recommend him to anyone at any time.
Henri restored a 50 year old piggy bank for me to surprise my wife with a long forgotten cherished memory from her past. In 40 years of being together, I doubt that I have ever given her a birthday present that meant more to her. I have Henri to thank for that and I couldnt recommend him more highly as a gentleman and an accomplished artist.
Henry is customer oriented, friendly and quick, responsive, reasonable in price and very skilled. I had a very old porcelain cup that needed restoration for my boss and after it was finished, you could not see where it was broken. The job was well done. I also had a bookend from Africa made out of very rare wood that I had bought on my travels and had gotten split between the larger piece and the attached lion. I don’t know how he did it, but its sturdy again and you cannot see that it was ever broken. I am glad I found Henry. I highly recommend him for any Fine Art Restoration.
We had a very broken religious tile that is several hundred years old and required a patient and skilled hand. We had some serious disconnects with Henri at the beginning but we now have our piece back and it looks like it did when it was crafter in the late 1800’s. The wait was agonizing but the result caused all memory of that to fully disappear.Henri is the best that there is. Be patient and stay in contact. Breath deeply and be assured your art will be well restored.
Excellent work by Henri - I brought in a small wall sculpture of a bird. During a delivery part of the birds beak was broken off. I searched for the artist and called a gallery that use to carry the artists work but the piece was bought about 20 years ago and I could not locate a replacement. I bought the bird to Henri and he did such a wonderful job blending the ceramic and the patina that I was not even sure whether the top or the bottom of the beak was the broken piece. Thank You Henri for restoring my birds beak. I would highly recommend Fine Art Restoration.
During a move, a large porcelain bowl that I inherited from my grandmother was damaged. It suffered a large crack down the inside of one side. I searched the internet for a reputable repair shop, and I found Fine Art Restoration. Henri promptly responded to my e-mail with a quote and instructions on how to mail the dish from across the country. I took it to the UPS store and they inadequately packed the bowl, causing it to arrive to Henri split in half. Henri fixed the bowl completely, and he mailed it back in a very secure package. I was excited to see that the bowl had arrived in one piece and that Henri had done an excellent job repairing it for me. I would highly recommend Henri and Fine Art Restoration.
Henri is a true professional who can not only feel, but draw out the vision of the original artist of a piece. The piece I brought to him was a rare 1920s era porcelain lamp--very detailed and beautiful--broken into smithereens. Henri restored it perfectly! He found a very old repair at the base that was desintigrating. He repaired that, too. I would not hesitate in recommending Henri for any restoration. He is genuinely a Master!!
Henri repaired a ceramic bowl that I had purchased many years ago in Olympia, Greece. Its primary value was sentimental. Someone else had begun work on it which was poorly done, so he first had to undo that. The result was far better than I had hoped for! I would recommend him highly.
I broke a very expensive vase that I really loved and took it to Henri!. He fixed practically good as new in just ONE DAY. Unheard of service and he was so pleasant to work with. He also charged me so fairly for the work. I would TOTALLY recommend him for any repair that you have. I certainly will go back.
Henri is highly skilled and very professional.I brought in two porcelain pieces that needed repair for my boss and the outcome for each piece was immaculate. My boss and I were both very pleased with the service that was provided.I highly reccomend Fine Art Restoration.
Henri LaBorde of Fine Art Restoration Studio repaired more than half a dozen very special ceramic sculptures made by my grandmother, Sylvia Hyman. She is a well-know sculptor, the subject of a coffee-table book as well as a documentary film, and the Smithsonian has two of her sculptures. He did a terrific job on the sculptures, which were damaged in shipping. Highly recommended.
My cousin passed away and left me his grandmothers antique samovar (urn). It had sat in his apartment for decades and was tarnished beyond belief. I found Mr. Laborde by googling brass restoration and his web site was the first that appeared. He was located just a few miles from my house so I brought it in for evaluation. He was unsure as to whether or not he could bring it back to its original appearance. I told him to go ahead and try. Whatever he could do would have to be better than what I currently had. He quoted what I thought was a reasonable price. The project took about 7 weeks but when I picked it up, could not believe the difference. He replaced the old wooden handles, polished and laquered the brass. In a word, spectacular! If you need any brass or silver restoration, hes your man.Laura F
Henri was a pure delight to work with. I broke a china horse which had belonged to my mother for over 70 years and was now mine. I was totally distraught by my clumsiness. I searched online and found Henri, a true master of the art of restoration! The difference with Henri and most business people, is that he really CARED, and he empathized with how badly I was feeling. He went above and beyond and the result was that my horse now looks as good as new...and all four legs had been broken off in multiple pieces, the tail, the head, the ears! One ear was even missing and Henri created one!!! I will be forever grateful and I take pride in showing everyone his work. I wish I could add pictures here to show you the before and after...you would be amazed!
Henri Labore of Fine Art Restoration is a true artist. I have had him repair many fine antiques from porcelain to pottery and metals, alabaster, etc and he’s always done a perfect job. If you have anything you treasure, you can trust it in Henris hands.
My aunt had a blown glass heart that her cleaning lady accidentally broke. So she looked online for someone who could fix it and found Fine Art Restoration. She contacted him and sent the heart to him vis fedex. He did a wonderful restoration job on the heart and made it look brand new again. Wonderful, courteous and fast. My aunt really appreciated the job well done.
My daughters kindergarten art project was a ceramic plate with her hand print in it. It was the only thing we had like it. Unfortunately, husband accidentally knocked over and broke in three big pieces. For years I kept the pieces hoping to some day fix it. My daughter, who graduated from college last year, found Henri on the internet. I brought the plate to him and he did a BEAUTIFUL job on it! You cant even see where the cracks were on the front of the plate! He took a little longer than the estimated time he quoted but it was definitely worth the wait. I would highly recommend Henri for your very sentimental pieces.
Beautiful glass art deco glass hat was restored by Henri back to its original shape with no visible signs of repair. Highly recommend Henri for all the positive reasons listed.
Absolute perfection. Henri is a master. I would use Henri to repair ANYTHING. VERY reasonably priced as well.
I found Henri some years ago when our go to guy disappeared. We are a cleaning service and our teams are careful but no one is perfect and we do have our occasional breakage. Henri has done fantastic work and our customers have been pleased with the result.
My grandmother had passed on a jewelry box to me when she died. It came from her grandmother, to her, so it is over 100 years old. I dropped it years ago and the base had shattered. I just accepted this heartbreak and figured Id never find anyone to repair it. I kept as many pieces as I could and tried to glue it myself, but large pieces were missing. After deciding to find someone to try to fix it, I had found Fine Art Restoration on the web. I actually live elsewhere, so I worked the delivery into a trip I was taking to CA. Henri was skeptical that he could really make a difference with the piece since it was so broken. I left it with him, which was a little nerve-wracking, but we stayed in touch. He worked on the piece for almost 6 months. I knew my patience would pay off, but I had no idea how well. The piece was carefully shipped to me and when I opened it, I was stunned. It looked perfect. The repair marks are visible in a few places, but he had to actually create the new glass to fill the large holes. The hand-painting was exquisite. You couldnt tell where the old met the new. And the brass base was polished and tightened and re-glued, so it actually was returned in much better shape than I ever could have imagined. I highly, highly recommend Fine Art Restoration. Henri went above and beyond and made this heirloom back into the treasured piece that I will pass on to MY granddaughter when she is born. Merci Beaucoup, Henri!
Henri is an amazing restorer and I totally recommend him for any of your sculpture, fine art needs. Hes completed at least 4 pieces for me and each one was completed with thoughtful care.
It wasnt fine expensive china, just a treasured piece of Metlox -- a large, leafy serving dish that snapped clean from sitting on a heating element. After I failed to super glue it back together, I went to see Henri, who had to undo my efforts and then piece it back together. Beautiful job. Still sorry I cracked it and it will have to be relegated to benchwarmer at dinner parties, but so happy to have this one of a kind piece to look at. Thanks, Henri. Youre the kind of guy I hope to never have to see, but am very grateful that youre there for when I do need to see you.
My 200 pound Buddha was worse off than Humpty Dumpty! Henri pieced this thing back together and it is difficult to find the spots where it was broken apart. Henri is a true artist of his craft. Worth every penny. Thanks Henri.
I am an Interior designer and needed to find a restorer for some antique chinese porcelains. I am always cautious about having work done for clients . Henri did such an amazing job . He is now going to be my go to man for all my restoration needsNeil Bokal
Ive used Fine Art Restoration for YEARS. Henris committed to doing quality work. Damage cannot be found after hes done his magic.
Was heartbroken when two Chinese ceramic elephants and a Tang Dynasty horse were broken in the move to Los Angeles and thought they were irreparable - but Henri at Fine Art Restoration did an unbelievable job - not only are they fixed completely, but you would never know they were broken in the first place. Amazing!!
We had a few items that a construction crew broke at our house. We looked up Fine Art Restoration, and decided to give him a try. Glad we did, Henri did a great job at repairing our pieces.
Henris has worked on a number of pieces for me: a crystal bowl with a chip, cracked porcelain, and pre-Columbian pottery. His work was excellent and reasonably priced!
FANTASTIC! Henri is the best! I got a beautiful ceramic Lagardo Tackett EggHead for a Christmas present...unfortunately, it was dropped and broken before I ever received it! I found Henri online....after a few e-mails and pictures I sent it off to him ...got it back a few weeks later better than new (its from the 1950s). Price was very reasonable...communication easy! I would certainly go back to him for my other treasures! I am actually sending him off some beautiful hand blown glassware from the 1950s that we have not been able to use because of chips along the rim...he repairs them too! I am VERY happy!Jeannie A.
Henri always come through in the clutch! I own a maid service and you can only imagine the things that get broken and Im so thankful to have Henri on my side. No job is to big or small for him to handle. Thank you, Henri!
Wonderful restoration of very complex miniatures and antique ivory pieces.Larry Berkowitz
Fine Art Restoration, under the expert direction of owner and master craftsman, Henri Laborde, has completed restorations of several museum-quality antique porcelain and ceramic objet darts I have entrusted to his care. I am known as an extremely fastidious client demanding quality workmanship, and Mr. Laborde has never disappointed me. His repairs are absolutely invisible with perfect color and glaze matches. When needed, Mr. Laborde can create missing parts perfectly restoring an object to flawless, original-like condition. The final outcome on the several objects Mr. Laborde has restored for me has been exceptional. I heartily recommend Fine Art Restoration and Henri Laborde for the discriminating client seeking very high, or museum-quality restoration and workmanship at competitive pricing.
Henri repaired a souvenir bowl that had sentimental value to my wife. When I surprised her with it, she thought at first that I had managed to find an exact replacement!
We purchased a wooden sculpture of a bull on the east coast. When it arrived on the west coast one of the horns, made from real bull horn, was damaged. Henris repair was nearly impossible to detect. My observation of the kinds of repairs in which he was engaged as well as the conversations I had with him about his profession convinced that he is exceptionally well trained and a consumate artist.
Henri is great! I recommend Fine Art Restoration!
Fantastic craftsmanship, honest, reliable
