The Last Bookstore is one of my favorite bookstores I’ve ever been to. Period. I love bringing newcomers to LA here. They are always impressed. Its so unique and beautiful. I think the space used to be a bank because it has all these vaults you can walk into that are now different book sections. They are a buy, sell, trade setup. I like seeing all the antique and old books they have on the shelves. There’s something about a used books that really fun. You can others old notes and I like to think about who were the previous owners of the books. They have art galleries upstairs where you can buy the art directly from the artists. Walk around and you will see these unique book sculptures like the tunnel made of old books you can walk under. They have music records too. A great collection. It is located in a vibrant part of downtown LA, surrounded by lots of bars and restaurants and skyscrapers.A must go for any book lovers or travelers to the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
A book can take you on adventures of all kinds. The last Book Store captures ones attention as vibrantly in real life❣️Creative Book Shingles on an non existent roof.Secret passages lead to great treasures.A tunnel of books you can walk through.Floating books.Enchanting ArtCan you find the old time floor vault and find what a hidden treasure awaits? The Rare Books AnnexAnd so much more 🤫
Never a bad time here; each time Im there its a little like getting lost in another dimension for at least a few brief minutes!Staff are pleasant and helpful, used book prices are excellent, the selection can be hot or miss... But you got here for the WHOLE experience, including the architecture, ghost stories, interacting with the staff, the art displays, and hidden gems and details. And its just down the street from Pershing square!Seriously, you need to check this place out!
This is such a cool bookstore even if youre not a book person! There are so many books absolutely everywhere and if you are a book perfect, your book will be here. I feel like they have everything. Theres so much to see and look around, and books are on every nook and cranny. There are entries into a different room of books. Theres a tunnel of book. And theres a cute photo-op of a circle you can a picture in. But still be careful cause there are people quietly reading and looking. Theres no AC inside so it can get hot in the summer but there are multiple fans going on.
This place was beyond my imagination. I spent hours here looking at classic books, souvenirs and loved the art. I also loved taking pictures at the book tunnel and the book loop (in the pics). Staff was very nice and helpful. Support this wonderful treasure because this is a place you dont see anymore.
What an incredible store! Books of course, everywhere, to look at, to buy, to walk under… the annex with art and antique books is super special, and then the old bank vault with older tax and legal books… not to mention the lighted book tunnel you can walk under. AND it’s not just books! As for parking nearby this downtown LA gem, you might get lucky with street parking but if not, there are garages within a block so you wouldn’t have to walk very far.
This place was amazing. I had never heard of it, but my wife made the kids and I go. I was blown away by how amazing it was. I felt like I was walking into a magical wonderland. There were so many different sections that had really cool aesthetics. And just when I thought I had walked through the entire store I went through a tunnel and there was so much more. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
My experience with this bookstore has been pleasant. One of the biggest bookstores Ive been in ever.If you have any backpacks or big bags theres a Bag claim area for Check in and out. This store Is located Downtown Los Angeles, So Im thankful that this process helps in s many ways . This Bookstore!Customer service is awesome.Ask about Store events and Book Signing! This store has loads of books! Is clean, friendly and a adventure 😌
I came for a trip to California, and with my love for books, I asked my friend to take me to a bookstore in LA. I definitely came to the perfect place and did not expect this at all! I fell in love instantly walking in. A labyrinth of books and art! My two favorite things. The most amazing bookstore Ive ever explored.
I really love this place because the atmosphere is wonderful. There are themed sections for each type of books. Horror books are in a spooky looking section, encyclopedias are behind a big vault door, mystery books are in a mystery type theme. Also, upstairs there are art exhibits that change every month or so. The exhibit recently in Oct was of witches. I absolutely love all of the art thats here. A must see place when visiting L.A!
Amazing place, has magical feeling to it. You feel yourself in an ancient library. Cool sections, appealing way of sorting and displaying books. You will enjoy background music but can also find quiet spots to read and relax. Highly recommend. Hasnt come across such a cool bookstore in a while. Definitely visit it if in DTLA!
Love this place! A unique bookstore located in the heart of L.A. Heard about it and decided to visit in person. Not only is it a bookstore but the design is off the wall. Walk through the tunnel of books or head upstairs to visit the rooms that contain unique decorations such as decorative stack of suitcases. The staff is really helpful as well. A gem in downtown L.A.
Came in because I saw how awesome those photos on Instagram everyone been posting about. Also friends in the area recommended it. How freaking cool is This place so much going on my mind went ⬆️↙️↘️↕️⏬↙️ all around. Couldn’t keep up felt like my whole entire existence was flashing before my eyes. Everywhere so organized books everywhere. There are art galleries everywhere. I love this place and service is amazing
I really enjoyed just looking around this place. the art and the way things were set up it really made this book store experience different !! i’ve come here twice so far and each time i find everything here amazing. they have some books i have never heard of before and i enjoy just looking around and seeing all the different ones i can find .
This place is incredible. The amount of so many different books, records, dvds...just incredible.Walking around is like moving through a museum of artistry and fantastic creativity. So much to choose from...I love and will go again everytime I visit LA.
Definitely a must see place if you have some free time in El Lay.I have been wanting to check it out since before covid shut everything down...Today I did.The Last Bookstore is unique in so many ways. Not just the absolutely incredible selection of books available, but the whimsical and fun niches and nooks that are hidden everywhere in plain sight.Very enjoyable to simply walk around and enjoy the variety or to enter the vault from the days of when it was a bank, and see the door mechanism with the ventilation wheel above it in case it ever closed.Fantastic experience.
This place is just as the name suggests..the last bookstore. It has that old school vibe, places to sit and read a actual book while holding it in your hands... and a bonus cool section of old school vinyl records!I love this place!
OMG! This place is amazing. Make sure you have lots of time to look around or even get in on one of the tours to learn about all of the eclectic details and history. Not to be missed.
Its an interesting bookstore. Its also the biggest second hand bookstore around the US. If you like books, its worth visiting.
Very cool bookstore... they had all kinds of books and wonderful places to sit.
Got four books for four bucks!! Lots of variety in the genres and for reasonable prices. If you visit, I recommend bringing your own bags to carry your books if youre planning on buying mutiple--the bags they give dont have handles. Also keep in mind that they store your backpacks at the front to prevent theft! Small handbags are usually okay, though.
I could spend my whole day in this book store! Their rare books collection is incredibly impressive. The way they organize and sort their books makes so much sense to me and there are amazing places to just sit and enjoy a book here! Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is visiting who is a book nerd like me!
If youre into books and are in or around Los Angeles, this is a must visit place. You will find a ocean of books on all kinds of topics and the day might seem too short. If youre not into books, I would still recommend this place as theres so many cool photo opportunities here.
Pure magic for all booklovers! And even those who dont! Such a fun store! I could have spent hours looking around! Fun atmosphere! If you are ever in LA its a not to be missed attraction!
Great vookstore lots of hard to find titles as well as beeing extremely well organized. the shops on the 2nd level are a real plus. we spent a coulke hours just browsing and i found the records towards the front, 33s 45s and from lots of different generations. If you like books and reading this is a definate Do Not Miss
Great bookstore for both books and looks. Admittedly there is a lack of organization besides the genre of book but thats kinda the fun of finding new things on your search for something.
Very unique and interesting bookstore to explore. Tons of cool books and stores within this place! It’s a must!!!
Wonderful collection of titles from rare first additions to second hand pulp fiction all arranged in artistic reels of books. Highly recommended for both adults and children - who are encouraged to hunt out the toy tiger for a prize
Fun independent bookstore, lots of photo opps, great place to find unique and used books
This is a beautiful bookstore that everyone in LA should take an afternoon (or a whole day!) to walk through and peruse. The ambience is restorative and without pressure, the selection is extensive, and the prices are good (both for buying as well as for selling books).Surpassed only by Powells in Portland, this is one of my favorite bookstores Ive ever been to!
Take a journey to a whimsical and magical place that makes you want to read fantasy and adventure!! I enjoyed wandering the shop to look at all the designs and minor details hidden within the sections. If youre looking for a good book and an added getaway spot... this is it!!!
Awesome book store built into an old bank, complete with vaults. Great customer service and a great selection of older and newer books.
Cute bookstore along with art gallery. Also has places to sit and read
This is going to sound strange, but as a bookstore, the inventory of books is not so impressive. Then why give it five stars you may ask? Well, it is for the atmosphere. The building is an old bank and the store makes a magical place for taking photos and just generally walking into old bank vaults to look at books. There are giant mammoth heads on the wall and all sorts of fun atmosphere sights to take in. Also, make sure to check out some of the cool art exhibits upstairs they had some cool artists up there! Cool shop to visit, even if you dont come out with any books, necessarily.
SUPER fun excursion. Whether you are from out of town or a local this is a do not miss stop on your tour of LA. 😍
Amazing bookstore! Glad I went in on just out of curiosity. If youre a book lover this place is definitely built for you
First time there. Good to see one of the old bookstores still around.
One would think this is an old book store, but actually it opened at this location on June 3, 2011 (the original store was founded in 2005), in the old Citizens National Bank building. The bookstore encompasses 22,000 square feet of space on two floors, featuring used books, rare-books and comic books. Though, The Last Bookstore may be a cheeky name it is one of the only places available where customers can buy actual bound books. This bookstore has the largest selection of books in vast categories. A must for any avid reader or lover of books. Some trivia.... several movies were filmed here including Gone Girl and Under the Silver Lake.
Loved this place! First time there.. In downtown Los Angeles.. 2 floors of books new and used the have sofa to sit and chill.. Its amazing book store
If I could move into that place I totally would. Awesome staff and if you love books then it is 100/10 reccomended. I drove over 3 hours just to spend a day geeking out to all of the books and various oddities.
Well the place has two floors too many books, and art pictures about diferent topics, it was good.
Very cool place to shop for new, used and rare books. Two levels with a chill vibe. They also have a section with old vinyl records.
Very cool physical space and plenty of good deals on books. Staff was very nice and eager to be helpful. Lots of people in the shop are clearly more Instagram people than book people, and theres some randomness to the uneven collection. Well worth a visit, definitely spend a little money here.
Amazing, fun, creative, and reasonable prices. Loved this store
This is one of my favorite stores in the LA area. Its easy to spend hours getting lost in the shelves, finding weird gems, enjoying the aesthetic, seeking out cool new weird art upstairs. I try to buy all of my books through them, good to support your local weird shop than Amazon!
Beautiful decor, and the book prices are amazing. Come for the Instagram pictures, stay for the quality and quantity.
Incredible store, decorated so nicely. A bookworms dream.
The place was beautiful, but when I went to checkout I walked to the side the cashier was on with the computer that was on, the bigger man with a beard behind the counter was mumbling and I told him I was having a hard time hearing him. He proceeded to say I must be deaf and blind because the checkout was on the other side. I walked to the other side to check out and then he just made me walk to the side I was originally on because I couldnt use my card on the side he told me to go to. I thought that was really rude and disrespectful. Need better customer service.
The coolest book store Ive ever been to for sure. Very comfortable place to chill and lots of books and records. Definitely worth visiting.
I could live here!!!! It was a fun place to explore and found some good reads too!!!!
The most beautiful bookstore I’ve ever seen
Unbelievable place~ Attractive place that you love books~ I love love love this place. The best bookstore!!!!
Book store is big, I wish it was a bit more organized with maybe even a map of where things are. Love the used book selection. $4-5 for used books is amazing for just a decent read.
What a unique store! This DTLA gem has unlimited eye and ear candy. Don’t be intimidated - it is organized, calmly vibrant and aesthetically pleasing at every angle. I bought two books (one classic and one modern fiction, both used) for $20. Talk about cheap thrills! Go for it and shop local.
Huge two story bookstore. Organization is kinda non existent but its to be expected for a non-Barnes&Noble type bookstore. There are themed rooms for sci Fi and mystery sections plus an art gallery on the second floor. Good prices on new and used books.
The decor is totally cool. All the different areas make it fun to look around. The bookshelves seemed a little sparse, but that could be due to covid.
Really cool bookstore that has some boutique shops for artists. Definitely a place to get lost in. Was pretty packed and got pretty hot.
I absolutely adore this place. One of the largest variety of books selection, I have ever seen. They also have a good variety of vinyl records. Definitely will come back and spend a whole day here, haha. Best time to go is Sunday because of free street parking, Save a couple bucks that could be used on purchasing a new books 😉. Recommend you go early because after noon time it gets pretty busy. Also the decor here is very instagramable, but do be mindful and respect the book store. Btw they also have a few cute shop inside the book store as well. Enjoys, keep calm and read on.
My favorite bookstore in the US so far. A gem in the middle of DTLA. Can spend hours in there.
This place is a must visit!! It was extremely busy when I went and Im not sure one can have a quite time with their book but you wont feel like leaving the place once youre inside! There are beautiful art galleries upstairs where you can get a quick gift or purchase their artworks!
I LIVE for a good bookstore. They have a wide range of content & the local artists upstairs have some nice things!
Decent size bookstore that has an old time/mystical aura to it. It is near skid row, so make sure to mind your possessions if walking or using public transport to get here. Upstairs there are a few unique rooms which is more of an experience than the lower level. There were several shops upstairs as well though none of them were open when I went. Staff seemed friendly though I did not interact with them. The staff seemed OK with tourists coming in without purchasing items, it is definitely a tourist shop.
So dog friendly 👏🏻🖤🐶
Great tourist attraction / entertainment destination. Not recommended to actually find a book, but the experience is incredible. Each genre has its own expertly crafted ‘setting’ which makes you feel like you are at a theme park. Highly recommend the experience.
I loved this place. They have a variety of books of all kinds. Definitely coming back for more
Loved the small shops on the second floor. And the wide variety of fun books made it so much fun to get lost and find some fun things to pop open and read for a bit before choosing to get them. A really nice food court is around the area if you are looking for something to eat. Just wish i had a few more hours to injoy the store and find something neat. Darn parking meaters only giveing you 3 seconds per quarter.
Great art pieces in the top section of the store. Wonderful music as well as you can sit and read the various books in the space.
There’s A LOT OF books there. If you’re a bookworm you’d appreciate this place, and even if you’re not, you’d enjoy the super cool environment. Overall a great touristic experience. Would def go back.
It is a creative bookstore. Many books are limited. The cosy ambience makes me comfortable and relaxed. A good place to enjoy yourself and take pics.
The oasis this crazy city needs, maybe even deserves. In here, you could judge these books by their cover, much like the vanity perpetuated by the city or get lost in the stories they tell, like the dreams it fosters.
Just love it. If you were at L. A., you must go.
Very cool spot, reasonably priced books and an upstairs art section with some interesting pieces!
Such a unique, interesting place in Downtown Los Angeles. You can find a kids area, Lp’s, cool art ad vintage stuff stores in the second level. For sure a place to visit.
I LOVED this bookstore!!! Great ambiance. Fun decor! Vintage finds. They sell both new and used books & vinyl. Tons of vinyls. Knowledgeable staff. Definitely worth a stop when youre in LA. My 15 & 13 year old travel buddies even liked the store and found a couple books to buy.
Huge and awesome! There’s something for everyone here. I found a great deal on a rare book when I visited. I look forward to going back!
I could spend hours here. . Not enough time to go through all these books. 🥺.Very eclectic, fun just to spot all the unique decor. I will definitely be back!
It has every genre you can think of! Its great for finding books. There is such a wide selection. Outside of being able to buy and sell books for reasonable prices, there is such a wonderful community of people in the store. Love that they have places you can shop from upstairs. There is seating on both levels to check out books before you buy or even to just have a chat with a reading buddy. Besides all of that it is amazing to look at and take in all of the cool features.
Really cool store. Lots of options
Unbelievably cool place to read, look at art, study people. What a great creative space and use of Los Angeles History.
The second floor was pretty artsy and fun to walk through. We went on a weekday so there wasn’t too many people. The used books were a bit too over priced for my used book liking 😅
Lovely book store old charm, it feels like you are in another world
Such a great bookstore! It has a rare collection of books and loads of other fun displays. It can get crowded at popular times, but its a big enough place to spend an hour or two looking for new or used books, records, or art. Over the years, its also become a local tourist attraction and Instagram hotspot.
Kids loved it its definitely a one in a lifetime must
This is a diamond in DTLA. Knowledgeable and helpful employees, fanciful decor, amazing selection. I make a pilgrimage here when I visit LA.
Neat place, new and used books, and the used ones are reasonably priced. Theres art all over the store, from permanent installations, to small shops upstairs for a number of artists. Definitely worth a visit or ten!
Favorite place to visit, a must see blast from the past to fantastic mind blowing artists at work! If slow and relaxing is your pace then this too is where you should be. Dont miss this stop they even have a safe place to keep your bags while you go off to your adventure and take home a souvenir!
This place is nifty. They have some shops, and all sorts of books. The staff is nice and helpful. There is also a bathroom but you probably dont want to read in there though.
A great place to visit and look around. From best sellers to classics, paranormal romance to history, they have a great assortment. There are small shops and artists studios on the second level and a book labyrinth. I brought my 15 and 16 year old nephews and they enjoyed looking around for bargains.
Amazing place lots of great books, art and photo ops for the gramers
I made a pilgrimage to Los Angeles just for this bookstore, and it did not disappoint! Truly a must see for any book lover.
