My number one fabric store in DT Los Angeles. The have changed owners it seems and they are just getting their steam back after the lengthy lockdown. Most of the original staff have returned and so its nice to see familiar faces. Good product and good customer service. I ALWAYS RETURN!
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING.....the magic euphoria caused by the unlimited exquisite Everything a Designer could ask for... example: the selection of of Fabric has trend setting patterns way B4 its time
Customer for over 15 years! Dependable as always. Love it Here!
Great place to shop for quality fabrics. I found what I was looking for. Imported Silk! Michael Levine traditional continues!
The customer service was excellent and the owner and staff was a pleasure to talk too. They helped me with my fabric order and it worked out. Thank you Michael Levine.
Love this place! Its centrally located in the garment district & has its own parking lot 😉 Staff is knowledgeable but often busy so bring your patience!
This is a good store but they are allowing people to shop in there without masks on. LA County is still mandating masks indoors, they are violating county law.
Love the store been shopping there for 40 years and still a great store
Love the staff, extremely knowledgeable on fabrics they even tested to make sure that the type of fabric is the same as noted on display. Will definitely be returning to purchase more silk.
Great staff. Kind and friendly. Prices good for the quality. Check that out.
Yes! They are open, with new owners. Not the same though....lovely workers still. But very expensive and overpriced. No sales and no wholesale. Very disappointed. A mere ghost of its former self
Before they sold to the new owner this was the perfect place to go for years if you were planning a project and buying wholesale. They have new owners. There were zero items on sale. Due to the closing, covid and reopening almost all the staff is no longer there. They no longer do wholesale (as of when I went 2 weeks ago). Its all set pricing.
Store is closed for renovations. It’s the 12th today and it hasn’t opened up. There should be a notification on google before getting here. It’s in an incredibly annoying area to park and get to so people should be informed about this beforehand. While I took this photo there were 4 other people who went up to the door and realized the door was shut. I was only there for maybe a minute.
A wonderful company, a great store! Good variety on materials, super helpful, super friendly service. Cant get any better than that.
I love this place no matter who owns it. Always good service. The inventory is a little limited as I believe panic buying of fabric has set in. They were very accommodating though and are going to try and order the print I want. At least they are trying.
Really great fabric store. Lots of selection in different types of fabric. They have really unique fabrics that I dont see at other stores and the fabric is a nice quality. Their cotton fabric section is really large so make sure you have some time to spend browsing when you go here. They have a nice selection of notions too. I would defiantly recommend this store to anyone looking for a fabric store with variety.
Ive loved Michael Levine for YEARS--it is one of THE fabric stores to visit when in the fashion district. I was planning a trip back up this week but I was worried it would be closed for good like the other reviews said. It doesnt help that their website is gone and the phone number on Google is out of service. However, I went on Wednesday the 24th and was relieved to see it was still there and running! Some other reviewers commented that the new management made the store feel different, but I didnt get that vibe. They had all of their fabrics and notions arranged in the same way, and it didnt feel emptied out or thin. To me, its the same. One star off for some of their prices (even Joann charges less for quilting cotton print), but Im so glad that Michael Levine is still there!!! Ill definitely be coming back soon.
Good costumer service
They have consolidated their stores to one location but the bargains are still here to be had!
This place is outstanding for buying things you need for sewing with. i will recommend this place for people that love to sew and buy materials.
CAN ANYBODY ON THIS PLANET IN LOS ANGELES TELL ME ! DID MICHAEL LEVINE INC, CLOSED ????????? IS IT OPEN OR NOT ????OMG WHEN I GO DOWNTOWN THE NEIGHBORING FABRIC STORES TOLD ME THAT BOB HOPE SOCIETY BOUGHT THEM, ---THEN THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE GOING TO TURN IT INTO A MONKEY AND DOG SHELTER FOR BATTERED ANIMALS. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE. CAN ANYONE LET ME KNOW IS IT OPEN OR CLOSED FOR GOOD.
I wanted some Disney print but none at all.... Still a good place to come get fabric and other sowing projects
Everything was clean and Lupe who was the old lady she treats us like a family and the fabric is very good quality
Was only here because of my partner but she loved it. Large selection and willing to deal. We left there and she recognized a former winner of some fashion show on television. Had a chat with him . Nice guy .
Staff was COOL. Went here 1 morning after my little guy informed me of a school project at the LAST MINUTE. ML was out of what he needed but the employees were MORE THAN HAPPY TO LET ME KNOW OF WHERE I COULD GET WHAT I NEEDED. I love helpful ppl. Its unfortunate that helpful & happy customer service reps no longer go hand & hand but I found that here. Thank you ladies @ ML during morning shift.
The staff is generally friendly and helpful even at peak times. You can always find something here. If not here then across the street is their closeout store. There are boxes and boxes and more boxes of upholstery fabrics, trims, notions, and foam to choose from.
My go to place for fabric!
Pretty generic fabric store. They have some pretty good stuff to choose from. One of their locations has a pretty ripe smell going on in it. I wonder if thats just due to the large quantity of bolts of fabric they have for sale. Dyes and things. Anyway this location and the other location they have across the street should be suitable to satisfy all sorts of fabric tastes.
Great fabric store! I love the home decor fabrics here. Make sure to check the monthly calendar on their website for sales before you go. Parking is nuts; just do some deep breathing and allow extra time.
This cool Fabric Store shouldnt be considered a Jobber joint (where they have one-time fabric thats here today and gone tomorrow). Michael Levines Two adjacent Fabric Stores (their building number 2 is directly across the street!) carry a huge variety of Fabrics which they re-stock over & over when they run dry. This is perfect for the Sewer or Small Manufacturer who needs to count on their favorite fabric being there when the Halloween Sewing Season, for example, gets crazy!
I believe this is the best fabrics/notions store in LA county. They have a broad range of fabric blends and colors. Excellent customer service and they go above and beyond for special needs and fashion students. Dont forget to ask about their bargain fabrics that have been marked down, but still good quality.
How do i get in touch with the store the google number doesnt work. If anyone has any ideas please lmk
They are clean and always have what u need
One of the largest fabric stores in the Fashion District. Also carrying trims, sewing supplies, etc. A bit pricey, which is the main reason I dont frequent this place. But its a far higher class experience than most other stores in the district. Very clean and well organized, with a lot of very helpful (Im assuming well-paid) employees. That may explain the premium prices. The best news is that they recently stated doing something about the prices. They have sales and discounts, now, which you can sign up for online or in-store.
Lots of fabrics...but not cheap.
Found some incredible upholstery remnants that were more than enough to cover the furniture I was redoing at about 20% of the original price!
My favorite material store downtown Los Angeles. Im telling you they literally have anything your looking for with great prices and a helpful staff. Also its just cool to Check it out because its located in the fashion district of downtown and super coolAccessories.
Lovely yarn, lovely store, lovely and helpful men and women working there. A delight to visit when you are in CA . They have Tools and accessories for other crafts as well, ie- DMC floss. They will wind your yarn if you like.
This is the retail fabric shopping experience in the middle of the wholesale fabric district. If you want to save time and have a big wide, clean store, with a bathroom to go with it, this is a good choice.but if you have the time to find the fabric around the corner at another store the smaller shops are much cheaper and will bargain with you unlike this one.
Great place to get fabric
This is the go-to fabric stire in Los Angeles. They have their own small parking lot which validates. Parking is by meter on the street or by parking structure. Bring change!!! Structures could run up to $10. The place is not too big but has amazing finds. Everything is well organized and they have a large staff to help you. If youve never been, I would wonder around and check out everything. There is also an upholstery store right across the street and a very large craft store. This is the fabric district so you have many options just steps away.
Service is a bit below average.... seems like most employees are not into helping customers.... managers seem to be on the look out thou to call attention to employees. Selection is fabulous... 5 stars for inventory selection !!!
Wonderful selection of fabrics and notions. Ill drive from Orange County once a year to downtown LA to shop there.UPDATE: Sadly this store is no longer in business! 7/2020
Great choice. Good prices but now costs $15 to park and .25 cents to visit their filthy dog restroom. Once a year visit only.
Great store, this place is a must visit each time I visit the WEST COAST. Sales associates were very helpful, made recommendations for various fabrics for my projects. Excellent resource, reasonable prices, fabrics from around the world found here. The Cleàrance area has a Hugh SELECTION of quality fabrics, usually less than 10 yards available per bolt. Highly recommend this place! I have spotted contestants from Project Runway shopping here.
Ive been a long time shopper at this store. I always find what I need. Friendly employees.
I had heard that this place was such a good deal. I was so excited to go there. Boy, was I DISAPPOINTED!!!! While there was a lot of different fabrics, they were way too OVERPRICED! $10 - $12 dollars a yard for a cotton print! Eyelet for $ 19 and up! I got beautiful eyelet from the swap meet for $3 a yard. No one in my group bought a thing there. However, we all got some great prices in the smaller shops on the street. And each place we were able to bargain with the shop owners for cheaper prices. Forget Micheal Levines if you want good bargain material.
Love this store but I wish the staff could be nicer. I’m a regular costumer here and I come in to buy fabric and also get swatches but when I ask for swatches the staff make faces like they don’t wanna help. Although, there’s like three people who do go out of their way to help me!
Excellent selection and friendly staff. You can good deals on in-stock fabrics. The special orders can be pricey -- no better or worse than other places in that regard. Worth noting: they have a lot on Maple that offers free parking if you make a $20 purchase.
Lovely people to deal with. so very helpful and friendly.
This place has a huge selection of fabric, and you can buy by the pound at the warehouse. The non-warehouse location was overpriced in my opinion, but the warehouse prices were a bargain. We will definitely be back to purchase more fabric. We also appreciated their seasonal and holiday options.
Great shopping
They got everything you need.
Loved the place. Nice and friendly workers. Found the place neat and clean. Nice prices and they have a good celection on fabrics. Im returning to shop there really soon. Overall great place to get your materials.
Review for the Michael Levine LOST across the street. $3/lb for fabric - mostly knits in giant bins that you have to dig through but GREAT deals to be had. Few fabrics on rolls, and since their move downstairs to the Home Fabrics building, a number of tables of folded fabric. No labels of any kind (type of fabric or content). During my trip yesterday, I saw lots of knit fabric, some lace/crochet fabric, sheer printed polyester type material (like the kind for scarves).
Good Fabric store and the owner is very accommodating! He made me 2 custom table cloths in about 2 hours at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend him.
Meh
Ive been going here most of life. They say its well known. 😉
I knew that prices at Michael Levine were high but I didnt know that they were regular retail prices! Ironically enough, went there to get better deals with their satin trims and just to find that they cost more. Boo.
Excellent selection of textiles and well worth the drive from San Diego! The store might have been a little short staffed the couple of times Ive been as it was difficult to locate an employee to help me measure and cut fabric. Still a great mainstay nonetheless.
I wish I could live in here! Their wide variety and low prices are really unmatched. The staff are always willing to serve as well. Definitely will return again and again.
This is a great place first time here. There was a beautiful lady by the name of ROSIE that helped me out. Excellent customer service. I was able to find the items I needed and more. Thank you ROSIE because of great people like you I will keep coming back and te alot of OTHERS.
Great place for cheap garments if youre okay with smaller size scraps
Michael Levine Fabrics is classic independently owned fabric store which we love to support! You can park free adjacent to the building, a great stop to purchase our oilcloth!
OMG. after like 80 years in business this good star establishment, with always quality and upscale merchandise, most if which reasonably priced, vis closing next month. The employee I spoke to thats been there 10 years didnt know why. At the moment the entire store is 20 percent off, surely to go higher as time goes by.
Good source for notions. Prices are higher than usual. A shame they are going out of business.
Wish we had a place like this in Vegas! The prices were a little in the high end, but the selection made up for it. Loved the place, we walked all around and this place was a true fabric store. Will order online.
Really great place. Variety is huge, you can find almost anything here. The prices are pretty high, on most things. Fabric prices in the same ball park as Joanns. However, the huge upside to this store, are the sales they often have. Their sales are insane (sometimes over 50% off) and can save so much money. They have a loft across the street, and fabric is incredibly cheap there
Not friendly and stuff is over priced!
They have their own parking lot and it is free for 1 hour if you purchase $20, you can also order on line and pick up at the store. Also private unisex restroom.
Lots of fabrics, my daughter n law loves this place. She flew all the way from Little Rock Arkansas just to shop here.
Pro: excellent AC, public bathroom. Con: overpriced, nothing special. The per pound Loft is great for knit clothing fabrics. Otherwise meh. The place next door had silk velvet at $15 yard, 75% off from Levine.
HAS EVERYTHING ONE WOULD NEED AND IF NOT IN STOCK THEY WILL HAVE IT RIGHT AWAY. 2 HUGE STORES ACROSS THE STREET FROMEACH OTHER. ALTHOUGH THE LOCATIONS ARE IN THE FASHION DISTRICT OF DOWNTOWN LA, U ALREADY KNOW TRFFIC GONNA BE CRAZY. GET THERE EARLY AND THEY DO VALIDATE FOR PARKING.
Fabulously awesome.Every fabric and sewing thing you could want.Usually pretty friendly, even to big sharks.
Lots of fabrics with high quality.
The quilting cotton fabric is priced at full retail. I get the same prices at my local quilt shop. Although they have a good selection, 10% off is no bargain in the fashion district.
Great prices and so much variety, i wish they had a better availability of colors on different types of fabrics.
Great selection. I was even happy the Spider-Man selection of fabric. Made so many pillows. Can be pricey but it worth it at times
Decent selection
Lots of variety. I had trouble finding out how things were organized. Not enough time to go through things.
Super awesome i love the fabrics everythings is Beautiful
Love the inspiration..everyones very helpful.
Nice fabrics but poor service, no one in sight to cut fabric and this was early in the morning.
A great place to shop if your looking for quality textiles. They have a wide selection of fabrics available and one will not be disappointed. You will more then likely find what youre looking for.
Michael Levine is always a great place to go in the fashion district. A go-to spot. Great selection of fabrics and nice and helpful staff.
It has changed it is now owned by another person and not Michael Levine it feels very different. Personally I dont like it
Impressive selection, though they did not have any Captain America fabric. 18 different kinds of Spiderman, but no Captain America. The staff is scant and aloof so expect to spend a lot of time here, waiting around. Overall though, its a good place for people who sew.
Great place for the do it yourselfer. Lupe was incredible help. She pointed out the bargains and recommended the right lengths for garments.
They carry a variety of fabrics. Those are surprisingly well organized. So you dont have to feel any stress to select textiles. For that, the price of fabrics they sell is little bit more expensive than those in other stores in fashion district, but they also have sections of discounted items.
The customer service is incredible and so personal! Amber and Beto helped me out with an issue in such a professional and courteous way. I will keep coming back for the high quality fabrics and the exceptional service!
