I used Angie Lu Tailors nearly 10 years ago for alterations to my wedding dress. In going through old photos, I was reminded of what a terrible experience we had here. I purchased a vintage gown for $150. It needed to be let out a bit and I requested straps and pockets be added (I supplied the lace for the straps). We were quoted $500-$600. I originally told my mother we should find somewhere else, but she insisted so I decided to have the alterations done here. Two weeks before the wedding, we went to pick up my finished, cleaned and “pressed” dress. It looked like it had been crumpled up in a bag the entire time it was there. When asked about it, I was told we could come back another day to pick it up. I lived an hour away and did not have time to waste with it being so close to the wedding, so we took it somewhere else. They pressed the dress and were appalled at how much we spent for the alterations that were made, especially since we were given a dress that had clearly not been finished. When I wrote a letter stating how unhappy I was and requesting at least a partial refund, I was told to contact a lawyer.I know it’s been a long time since my experience happened, but it still makes me upset to this day knowing that we were swindled by this place. I have a photo of what my dress looked like when it was supposedly finished, which I have posted. I don’t know if practices have changed since I was a customer, but I would still be wary. Based on some other reviews, it doesn’t seem much has changed.
Angie lus was recommended to me by the wedding dress shop and I was extremely disappointed in their services. Not only is it expensive, but my dress was not ready when she said it would be and claimed it was because I kept losing weight. I ultimately had to bring it to another tailor a couple days before the wedding. Thank goodness they were able to fix it on time. It was an extremely stressful experience that should have been exciting and fun.
Can not say enough good things about Angie Lu’s. I took my wedding dress to them that needed so much done to get it to where I felt excited to wear it and I couldn’t be happier. Not only talented but so kind and professional. Highly highly recommend!!
Lena was beyond amazing! She made my wedding dress fit like a glove! Her store is insanely clean and spotless. She really cares about making everything perfect. She is honest and kind and will go above and beyond for any request. She is also open on the weekends which was very helpful since I came from Boston for each fitting. I would not trust anyone else with my wedding dress. Lena is the best, hands down!
Terrible experience.. first off she is incredibly over priced.. she made a huge mistake with a dress of mine and first told me 1. It was my fault and 2. It was no longer her problem since the dress was done. She was very rude and I was able to bring my dress (that she ruined) to another place they fixed it for half the price and a smile on their face
I had a suit and vest made for my wedding. BEST experience!!My wife and I wanted a “Gangs of New York” theme because we got married in City Hall in NYC. The suit, the vest...literally every recommendation was PERFECT.And on top of everything else, the experience of having the suit made was incredibly fun!! :)
Extremely friendly and professional. I had two suits tailored there, and a zipper on my jacket fixed up. They did it for a great price to. I will return again for future tailoring needs.
She did all of my prom dresses and most recently my wedding dress (and my mother’s MOTB dress)! Such an amazing experience- everything came out perfectly. An amazing family run business I will continue to go to and trust with for all my future events!
Lena is an absolute gem in a business that deals with an art that is becoming obsolete and some of us really appreciate that. Not only is tailoring a gown incredibly pain staking in itself that requires a life long amount of endless evolution and the styles and construction of gowns evolve, but they are also the face of your wedding or special event and can often have to balance the clients nerves, anxieties and insecurities along with the initial job at hand which is to tailor your gown. The shop/studio itself is absolutely beautiful with a newly remodeled alteration section complete with immaculate herringbone floors that you can eat off of, a wet bar, and coffee/espresso.You go in feeling like the only person in the store. Pinning a gown doesn’t take long, it’s completely painless. The service itself is incredible. I walk in and they know me by name, the employees are very nice and accommodating.I’ve had 3 gowns tailored here to perfection and had a custom Italian suit (which they sell in the shop) tailored to perfection. When investing in a special gown, you should also invest in a perfect tailoring job. The 1st thing I notice when at a wedding is a dress that could’ve been perfect, if only the tailoring was taken more seriously.Lena and her employees are invaluable to us and will obviously continue to utilize and refer everyone we know.
They are amazing there, they were able to fix a blazer that was ruined by another tailor who made the arms to tight. I was afraid Id have to donate it but Angie Lus was able to make it fit perfectly! Now whenever we need something tailored we bring it .
Angie did a fantastic job on my wedding dress! I was new to the area and had a difficult dress to alter due intricate lace at the bottom of my dress which had to be moved in order to alter the length. Angie is a perfectionist and made sure the dress fit me perfectly before I left my last appointment. She even insisted on delivering my wedding dress to my car at the end of my last fitting. I also found the price very reasonable when I compared it to other friends who had their dresses altered.
Angie and her staff are amazing! I got my wedding dress tailored here and everything came out perfect. Couldn’t have been happier with how we were treated and how my dress came out. Thank you again!
Angie Lu is a wonderful place! Lina the owner is also so pleasant and professional. She make you feel at home anytime of the day! It is always a delight coming through those doors!
Lina and the women in her shop did a beautiful job on Brittanys wedding dress. They accommodated her out of state schedule for fittings and made everything as smooth as possible for us. The attention to detail and perfect tailoring end result was beautiful.
Lina and her staff are pure perfection. Professional, warm, welcoming and a beautiful bridal suite with a water view. There is really no one I’d recommend more
Wish I could write a happy review, but I would not want another bride to have to go through the same experience as I had here. I was referred to this location from Everthine Bridal Boutique to have my wedding gown altered. To start, the prices are outrageous, for a hem, to let out sides less than an inch and a small lace removal on a simple/pIain gown I was quoted initially $900. The price was graciously reduced to $600. After the first fitting, I brought up some concerns over fit and I was told to not tell her how to do my job and that brides come from all over to have the dress fit the way it does. I was also told that if I called the boutique where I purchased the gown with any complaints she would not do the alterations. After the second fitting, the dress fit even worse and truly looked like a loose sack. My mother in law brought up concerns and was given the same defensive replies. I decided that I was going to stop alterations at this location and requested to take my dress. I was told it is against the law and after I agrued that point I was told it is against the contract. After re-reading the contract in front of Lena I pointed out there is nothing in the contract that prohibits me taking my own dress. I was then provided a blank sheet of paper and requested to write on my own why I was taking the gown. The lack of craftsmanship, professionalism and outrageous prices is hopefully enough to deter brides. It is unnecessary stress to have to unfortunately deal with this business. I was able to find someone who salvaged the gown, had to completely un-stitch and re-sew, hem, and add beautiful lace details all to make it fit perfectly for a very reasonable price!
Come here for a few alterations and repairs and had great service and the people are really friendly
Very nice.I was a.visitor, not the customer.
Lena and her staff are fantastic! Quality work. Very nice folks.
Theyre good, but obscenely expensive, they definitely price themselves for wealthy locals. If youre looking for something simple, or something other than the finest imported fabric, look elsewhere.
I had two pairs of jeans hemmed. They told me $28, which I thought was steep, but since they are close to my home I went with it. It turns out that was their price per pair! It cost me $56. Ridiculous. See Lucys Tayor in Branford. She charges $12 a pair.
Love the clothes, the new digs and of course the tailoring are all top notch!
Great service! They can fix anything!
