Chillin cafe for hang out! This huge cafe really elegant!!Beautiful decoration ...cool painting..nice furnitures.. staff were friendly ...and had service mind..I try hot caramel macchiato it super foamy..not taste much of caramel...Also try Avoca toast add eggs..feel like avocado is not fresh enough.Overall is good I chill out in front of cafe in late morning...love it will go back there some day.
Usually love going to Grace, but last time I went there I ordered an iced lavender latte with oat milk and they gave me a plain iced latte with WHOLE milk. I went to ask the waitress to make sure and she said it definitely wasnt oat milk so she made me a new one. Luckily Im not lactose intolerant, but I still think thats a big mistake that shouldnt be ignored.
Currently has multiple health code violations, there’s an article up on Madison.com. The most enraging part of the article is the owner of the company not taking any responsibility rather placing the blame on the new staff. You’re the owner, if you had any integrity you’d take responsibility for the environment you’ve created and continue to maintain. Your staff is working under your guidance. I’ve seen all I need to see here, I’ll never be visiting any of your establishments. I’d rather be spending my money at an business that respects its employees.
If you check out the Wisconsin State Journal article about Grace Coffee violating numerous health code violations, you will understand why you should never eat at this chain of restaurants. Do not trust the quality of their product-you might fall ill. Their Instagram quality is far from the truth.
This place was ALMOST really great.- Gigantic cinnamon roll was stale but looked great and probably tasted great when fresh 3-5 days ago.- My latte probably tasted great but was luke warm. When I ordered, they assumed I wanted my coffee cold and I corrected that I wanted it Hot.- I will say that my Sausage and Gravy meal was fantastic. Perfectly cooked egg and tasted great.- Sitting out front by the road, there were so many Flies and bees that we ended up taking our food to the car. My daughter is 9 and does not like bees.- I wish they had recycling for all the plastic packaging that everything is in, or that they used compostable containers. I know we are going through a weird transitional period with Covid but your customers know how to recycle, spend the $50 on recycle bins.Ive read some good and bad reviews, and honestly, I dont need a response from the restaurant. Hopefully they know I spent the time to share feedback because these are the opportunities to turn a Meh experience into a great experience. I dont need to go out to eat, it was a treat to take my daughter to breakfast and we ended up finishing our meal in the car.
This place has gone DOWN HILL! Last two times Ive been there the staff has been short with me and on the verge of rude. Im no longer willing to pay their premium for mediocre food and drinks. Especially when said food is buzzing with flies on an uncovered counter or said drink is served warm at best.
Best Latte Ive ever had. Worth trying for sure if you havent yet!
Food takes an hour or longer to come out if dining in, is never ready even close to the pick up time if ordering take out. Doesn’t seem to matter if they’re busy or slow
Trendy, overpriced and poor quality chainthat relies on looking good and being hip instead of decent food and coffee. The food looked pretty, but thats all it had going for it; lacked flavor and was was greasy/poorly cooked. The pastries follow the same trend, beautiful, but average at best. The three times Ive been there, twice my coffee had grounds in it, I dont think they clean the machines very well. I was immensely disappointed, if youre going to spend that kind of money, go to pretty much any locally owned place. Im amazed it has so many high ratings.
Really wanted to give this place 5 star. It is really incredible in any way possible. Staff is friendly, food is delicious, atmosphere is great, on and on. But whats with all the plastic? Plastic containers, plastic forks, plastic cups, everything plastic... For such an earth friendly place, please consider compostable products. Otherwise, I would definitely visit again and hopefully change my review to 5 star.
How many reviews need to mention “flies on the pastries” before you do something about it? Disgusting. The pastries are sitting uncovered on the counter. Fruit flies all over the danishes. Bigger ones on the cookies and croissants. Wanted to get a few for the fam waiting in the car, but didn’t because it was so gross. The coffee itself was ok. Got a latte, and it was a bit flavorless and extra milky (could barely taste the coffee).Have been excited for Grace Coffee in Verona, but much less so after today. Hope the experience there is better.
People were bragging about this place, so I finally decided to give it a try. I also brought my laptop to get some things done. I had no idea masks were still a thing and came in without one and got yelled at for it. Like jeez I would have put one on. Anyway the vibe was weird and the employees were kind of unthoughtful. I told them I would be in the very corner of the place and they assign u a number. They brought my food to me, but not my tea and no napkin or forks. It was confusing. I couldnt finish the sandwich I ordered. It was so salty. I make amazing breakfast Croissant sandwiches with eggs all the time. The potatoes that come on the side were over salted. Like I ate two and had to drink so much tea after. Didnt finish my food and just not worth the price. The scones are huge. The problem is theyre kind of dry and too big. If they were smaller it would be so much better quality. They should be warm when serving them! Idk overall the whole experience wasnt great. The place had so much flies. Landed on my food and kept bothering me the entire time. Not the way I expected it to be.
Serving up Onyx, kindness, and good vibes. This coffee shop slays on the espresso and flash brews cold brew/iced coffee. Truly an experience to walk in and enjoy Miami/Sydney vibes inside. Sad to not have pour over options and the drip coffee isnt my favorite blend. Darker roast profile coffee seems to be the focus. Grace Coffee Co - a great summer stop.
Good coffee, and interesting food menu. Highly recommend the breakfast tacos. Some debugging needed with the internal processes. Check out the timestamps on my food order. It was probably pushing an hour to get my order because the tickets were not printing in the kitchen. So not only was my order late, it was behind a bunch of other orders that were also late. Stuff happens, but even the response was not exactly customer-centric. With a little effort, you can turn a negative into a positive and that didnt happen on this day.
Pretty bleh coffee despite the cheugy West Elm aesthetic. Also, if you’re thinking about going here, you may be interested to know this and the State Street location have racked up a lot of health code violations — some very serious — and the owners have engaged in wage theft. Tap in “Grace” to the Health Department search tool and you’ll see the pretty disgusting citations. I’d suggest the nearby Cafe Domestique if you want better coffee and much lower risk of food poisoning.
The East Washington location was a far cry from the service you get in Middleton. I wish we would have just gone to Taco Bell so we didnt get our hopes up. There was a (SHORT) line, but by the time we ordered the attendant was grumpy - I couldnt order toast, I could only get avocado toast and hold the avocado ($8.50). My mother in law asked what they had for drinks and was told thats why the drinks cooler is back there - youre supposed to look and bring it with you to order. To add to that, she ordered the grilled ham and cheese and was delivered a ham croissant with cheese on top. We decided we were over it all at that point and just ate what we were delivered, only to find a hair baked into the ham croissant.Grace coffee in Middleton is my favorite place to go for weekend fare and family-friendly fun, but this was NOT the Grace experience Ive come to know from this company.
Great iced latte, love the atmosphere. The avocado toast with street corn was very good. However the fresh fruit pastries were buzzing with fruit flies. They need to be covered and not just sitting out on the counter.
This place is so cute. The atmosphere is wonderful. The food, unfortunately, is just ok. We got the French toast and the baked eggs. The flavor profile for the baked eggs was nothing to write home about. My husband really liked the french toast but did not enjoy the compote underneath. The latte (oat milk latte with a shot of hazelnut) was EXCELLENT. It was unbelievably smooth and hit all of the right notes. They also have their pups here! Diego and Pablo were such a welcomed part of the experience and keep you entertained while you wait for your order. They are the best doggos. Well be back for sure, but I will definitely be ordering something else for food, hopefully it was just a fluke. Their bakery items did look devine.
The Barista who made my drink was very skilled, it was delicious! And their cook makes the best French toast I’ve ever had, and even walked it over to me since I was just a few steps away from the pick up bar. Everyone was very sweet and professional. Thank you!
I have visited this place many times since it opened and the one on East Washington. Pretty dissapointed that today when trying to order a sandwich I have ordered before with EGG WHITES instead of scrambled eggs. The employee said they couldnt do that for me since they prepared the eggs before hand, even. I understand this, but I have ordered this before and they have been able to accomodate my request, more than once, and I let her know that. Even when ordering online there is an option for any special requests. I dont believe its a difficult request to be able to accomodate for a guest.
The vibe maybe would have been OK if it wasn’t so dirty, had flies buzzing around everywhere, and they had some music playing. The drinks were good, but the food was over priced, flavorless, and delivered slowly. We were so excited for Grace coffee to come to Verona, but officially not interested. $75 that could have been spent on a solid brunch instead- disappointed to say the least.
Solid coffee though the price is very much on the steeper side of Madison. Great atmosphere. you can get tons of sun thanks to their big windows (though two of their blinds need to be fixed as the Sun can be a bit too strong around noon). Tons of bakery and food choices. Plus or minus points depending on whether or not you like the doggos.
I use to love coming here, but today was beyond gross. I’m not alone when I say it’s not above me to report something to the department of health, because I saw 4-5 flies landing and hovering the bakery section. I use to come here for the baked goods, not anymore I guess. The open bakery top is just so unsanitary, get a glass case.I was also given an assigned number stand, which lead me to assume I would be handed my food, but nobody told me I’m supposed to go pick it up at a different table? My food got cold and soggy. I don’t understand the point of the number stand.
I ordered through door dash (and what is ironic is the problem wasnt with door dash) and the place was an hour past delivery time with already going through 4 different door dash drivers assigned because it was taking SO long. When I called to speak to the manager there was absolutely no offering of a gift card or anything for my time wasted. I was told by the manager that many people had waited an hour. This doesnt make it right. To be a manager at a place and not have any apology and not trying to make up for the problem is just ridiculous in my view. If I could it would be a NO star review---
Had coffee and a blueberry muffin. Used outdoor street seating. Great spot on a busy urban corner downtown
Amazing pastries! Cold coffee was good but VERY strong. Really nice patio area, mostly in the shade. The chairs were pretty uncomfortable. Free WiFi.
Good service. Nice selection. All good.
Shout out to grace coffee co for serving me the sickest most battery acid tasting 2-day-old iced coffee today 👏 it’s been over an hour and I can’t get that rancid watered down Energizer taste out of my mouth despite only having a sip. This set the bar really low for the acai bowl I ordered, which by the time I found it was completed melted into more of an acai-soup than a smoothie. Great decor tho! 🛋 coming from another local barista— I would not recommend.
Great atmosphere and bakery section. It has a local, almost industrial vibe inside that makes me feel like Im in New York. Unfortunately the coffee wasnt great. The cold brew and Americano tasted stale
Best pastries in Madison and several convenient locations. Popper croissant, fruit danishes, chocolate croissants, and specialty items are all amazing. Love the atmosphere and cozy feeling. Good coffee too!
No you arent during your best during Covid. This is so you all know... Ive been coming to Grace coffee virtually every weekend since I moved to the neighborhood. I loved it. Now... I will never return.I have never been so mistreated as a customer in my life. It was a little packed in doors so I waited patiently outside. The line started to move and so I proceeded inside as to make more room. Had to walk through a plant to even get to the line. Once in line whoever it was decided this was the perfect time to move all the tables outside. A task that should have been done before anyone arrived. I moved but had to move right away AGAIN because people kept coming inside. No help from any staff. I was bounced again just past the service door because I had nowhere to go. Still no help. Then a cook came out and was rude to ME because I was standing there. I had nowhere to go. Still no help. I found myself by the door and you know what i used it. The same guy moving the tables saw everything. He did nothing. Im done with your over priced, bad serviced trash. Ive never felt so invisible as a customer in my life. You dont know how to treat a human, let alone a customer
I ordered an açai bowl and waited for about 30 min when the place wasnt even full. We were waiting by the counter and no one told us that the orders were left somewhere else near the exit even when I asked about my order and was told it was still being made. I then found my order on the table and it was already melted.I also saw so many flies flying and laying over the baked goods which is gross and unsafe
Great coffee, wonderful breakfast sandwich. The pastries looked amazing but Ill have to try those next time. I like the idea of computer free tables. It gives people a place to sit who are there to catch up and connect with eachother. I cant wait to go back!
Coffee was alright, felt a bit watered down. Went back for lunch, food was great. Big bummer here was all the flys, so many flys. The pastries were not covered so the flys would land all over them, dont recommend ordering anything from the counter.
Great coffee and they have a full bar with a sit down area.
Everything was good from the atmosphere from the inside I’ll clean the prices the food the coffee everything was great
I love the interior design and the atmosphere, but the music was WAY TOO LOUD and Mexican bowl was really so salty.
Food crumbs on the couches, and coffee stain with more food crumbs on the table should be clear that staff here don’t bother to clean. We are still in the middle of the pandemic and if there is food crumbs and coffee stain, will they bother to sanitize surfaces for you???!! Also if you want to find a place to study, be aware they won’t let you sit at the table. Either high chairs or dirty couches.
Great atmosphere, great coffee, nice staff, and the avocado toast (especially the bread) was really good. I’d give five stars if there was more than one vegan option
Ive tried to like this place so much, especially since I live just down the block, but every single time has been disappointing. The coffee is fine but overpriced. The most disappointing has been the food, though. Ive never waited less than 15 minutes for anything, and there is always something wrong. Ive bitten into bits of plastic wrapping, and stopped ordering the breakfast wrap after finding bits of eggshell multiple times. I would love to be a regular customer here, but Im not interested in paying $12 for a sandwich with plastic in it.
What a great addition to state street!! Great service and great drinks. I love that they are environmentally conscious and don’t have straws, and also as a vegan they have lots of milk options (oat, soy, almond, coconut). We will definitely be back when we are in the area and highly recommend — super cute atmosphere.
Another star down. Took about 25 minutes for food and new POS still doesnt take Drip Card. Lets have better service.
Excellent service this morning. The barista was also particularly thoughtful and considerate, and the savory croissant was sublime.
Bar / coffee joint. Went before playing Ultimate in 100° but next time Im trying a White Russian with their specialty coffee ❤️
Too many health code violations for me to expose myself here anymore
There were far too many people in the shop not wearing masks and conversing with others at their tables while we were there. This is temporary, but everyone has to do their part. The coffee was average and not particularly noteworthy. I liked the shop that used to occupy the same location as was disappointed to find Grace trying to hit too many notes without a real focus on great coffee.
This is a such an amazing place. You walk in and you feel like you are a whole other world. The walls are black with beautiful artwork on the walls in white. There are gigantic plants and a beautiful pergola. And then there is the food and coffee. Fresh bakery and meals just melt in your mouths. I’ve had the French toast, açaí bowl, croissants and muffins. The people are amazing and if you’re really lucky you’ll get to see Pablo their service dog.
Friendly staff, that are both fast and knowledgeable and great, fresh pastries.
A diamond in the rough! Adorable, relaxing coffeehouse vibes with the best salty, sweet avocado toast! Great customer service!
Great coffee with big a$$ homemade pastries. Cocktails served on E. Washington is a plus!
Expensive but delicious! Friendly service but parking was impossible and the place filled up fast.
Terrible customer service. Pastries are great, that’s the only redeeming factor here. Don’t order the hot food. Ordered huevos rancheros and it was terrible. A pile of cold tortillas and eggs covered in marinara sauce. A far cry from the advertised “Corn tortillas, sausage-tomato sauce, pico de gallo, over easy eggs, avocado.” There was no avocado, it was just bad guacamole, and no sausage at all. Asked for a refund and the servers were very rude and flat out said no, it was prepared as ordered. I pointed out there was no avocado nor sausage and they still refused a refund. Do not order hot food from their menu. I will say again their pastries are terrific and top notch, but hot food and customer service are terrible.
First, the coffee is outstanding. Ive been hooked since the first time I stopped in and I now also buy my beans from them. I loved hanging out there reading a book and sipping a latte and I hope to be able to do so again soon! Also - any food Ive ever gotten has been top notch, with a great variety.
Best avocado toast I’ve ever had. The açaí bowl and the baked goods I got were also very good. The staff was very friendly. This is one of my favorite coffee shops in Madison.
Good food and coffee. Wish they permitted other peoples dogs too
State Street just won a high quality, third wave coffee shop! Delicious coffee and single origin espresso from Heart Roasters (Portland, OR).Currently open 8-7 on weekdays | 8-6 on weekendsThe owners (with a Seattle background) brought a piece of the West coast to the heart of Madison ❤️Kind, skilled, and patient staff, PLUS the most friendly Bernese Mountain Dog (Pablo) greets you at the door (one of the owners’ service dog).Looking forward to going back!
Muffins stale, coffees done wrong. Weve tried Grace a few times and - well - check your takeaway bag before you take it away. The baked items we got we hard as rocks, yet we paid premium price for em. Sad experience. Nope.
Such a cute shop, loved the atmosphere! Good coffee and baked goods as well. Only downside is lack of parking on-site, but that’s not a big deal if you live within walking distance or are willing to park on the side streets and walk over.
I have a mixed feelings about this place. We checked it out for the sole reason that they have a pupper on their team (the east side location). I was highly satisfied with the welcome we received from the doggo. I also thought they had good quality coffee and expresso. However, the food was meh and definitely not worth the price. The bisquet and grave was dry. The amount of gravy wasnt nearly enough. I felt rushed when I was ordering, overall not the most friendly service Ive experienced. We really liked our drinks but Im not in rush to return soon.
Gorgeous place, gorgeous food, gorgeous coffee. I was immediately taken with the aesthetic of this place. Chalky black walls with white chalked drawings, a fabulous girl-scout-green velvet sofa lounger, and happy plants throughout. I had the avocado toast with coffee and a cookie. impressive.
Do not go here for breakfast. Overpriced for food you probably wont even be able to force yourself to finish. Got the steak and eggs and my eggs were rubbery and flavorless. My steak was like leather, not sure how they justify pricing this meal at almost $16 when I could get better quality from McDonalds. My potatoes werent even fully cooked, and once again flavorless. You order at the counter and have to grab your own drinks, and the food is brought to you in plastic to go containers yet youre required to tip 20% percent when they dont even check on you. I dont know why anyone would frequent this location.
The pastry was excellent and my macchiato was awesome! Service was excellent!
Very impressed with Grace Coffee. Definitely enjoy their coffee and pastries. Great atmosphere!
Was my go-to but now Im not so sure.... I like ordering ahead and picking up my coffee order before heading to work but lately, Ive arrived and still have to wait 10 minutes or so for my order, even when I show up well past the estimated order ready time. A more concerning issue is that they leave their beautiful and overpriced pastries out in the open which is obviously not sanitary in COVID times but also on more than one visit, I have seen flies swarming around the pastries and landing on them and considering flies throw up every time they land on food, its just nasty. Since there are so many other great options in the area, Im going to start going to them since the service and parking is more convenient.
They allow limited indoor seating, but the place is huge with plenty of natural light. The coffee was excellent, and there was enough bakery items to feed a small army.
Since their beginning this has been our favorite spot to grab Brunch, Lunch and of course coffee! The pups are a huge added bonus and the service is amazing. Its chic and really beautiful on the inside as well. We love the owners and HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it to all of our friends.
My previous review for this business was deleted. Thankfully I have it saved. I think it is important that customers are informed of local businesses and I am disappointed that still no one from Grace has reached out (after 2 emails and deleting my review). Here is my review: I wish I could write a better review for this coffee shop, as they do make delicious croissants. However, I had a poor experience at this coffee shop. Before writing this review, I emailed their customer service about it with no response. I emailed again a week later asking for a follow-up and again no response two weeks after my initial email. Here is my experience that I emailed about: I felt very uncomfortable with the food safety precautions (or lack thereof) that Grace is taking. The person preparing my drink and food was not wearing a mask and was whistling to a song (innocent enough under normal circumstances, but considering our current situation of public health, it was concerning). Additionally, Grace stores their pastries out in the open, not protected by tall plexiglass right by where customers pay and could come into close contact with. I really hope that Grace can take better safety precautions when preparing food for other customers.
I had a day off and I wanted to treat my wife to a croissant and some coffee shop coffee, its been so long since we have gotten to enjoy ourselves with that kind of treat. I biked over first thing in the morning and got three chocolate croissants and enough coffee to fit in my sealable to go cup.Even with the current restrictions in place, I felt comfortable getting a morning treat. Just wished they could have been open a bit earlier so I could have been home with the coffee before my wife was awake.
The coffee is great. The pastries are beautiful. The food is delicious. The decor is a little extra for my taste, but very well executed. The dogs are cute, but in three visits, Ive had dog hair in my food or beverage all three times. When it gets busy, the kitchen becomes chaotic and weve waited 45 minutes or more as orders get delivered for patrons who ordered 30 minutes later than us. If they had a system that could handle peak volume and got rid of the dogs, this would be a five-star spot.
I really enjoy their breakfast burritos and the coffee is decent
Food was great andCustomer service was excellent butThere are a lot of flies and small fruit fly.Hard to enjoy food inside.
I used to love going there to treat myself for a nice, wide selection of bakery items. Ive tried several times, because I was in love with that building when it was Stone Creek.- My partner and I once received a cinnamon roll with too much cinnamon. It hurt our mouths so badly, we couldnt come near finishing it. And it was a quite large, expensive cinnamon roll. So we lost our breakfast AND a bunch of money. :(- That cinnamon roll, along with several other baked goods we have received, were stale. The cinnamon roll only slightly--but others, unforgivably so. Like, days past the appropriate selling point.- My drink of choice is a mocha, and I use it as the benchmark for how good a cafe is. Its soapy. The last 3 mochas Ive had there were honestly the worst in the city. Im a former barista, and I can tell you certainly that the espresso shots are regularly under extracted.- Fun fact: if you sell macarons all the time, people will buy them. We dont need to do the Well, some customers can order them at certain times but yOu CaNt dance. Okay? Its rude. And its what one of Graces baristas told me upon asking a simple question when I saw a customer order of macarons set out for pick up and asked if I, too, could order some. I suppose I will order from elsewhere then.I give Grace 2 stars because fresh food and drink availability is wide in selection and worth having as a treat. If an individual were to want to order something with their meal other than coffee, they could have a very enjoyable outing there. That said, I wont be making the trip for Grace anymore and I will not be recommending it to anyone.
Good coffee. Next level breakfast sandwich and wrap. Decadent pastries
This place has no sense of organized service. It took them 3 times to get my drinks right and everyone behind counter and making coffee was just placing things on counter and customers just grab whatever comes up.I know Starbucks has been doing this for a while but simple service is so easy. I’ve been here a number of times since I live a few blocks away but that was the last time. Most behind counter were without masks. Most customers were without masks. Not worth going there. Never again.Back to EVP, Starbucks and my own coffee at home. Not this place.
They have a lot of options and all of their pastries are HUGE!
This may be the best tasting cold coffee we have ever had. Sometimes we make trips just to come here when are treating ourselves. But two major areas of concern:1) Cost- how can two small coffees cost 13.93?! That’s outrageous beyond belief. We have got the exact same order twice and each time just blown away. It’s one of the reasons we don’t come here more.2) Safety- they clearly do not take mask wearing serious as many staff just don’t have them on or the ones that have them keep them around their neck. Additionally, their pastries are uncovered to the public. I think it’s obvious if you’re handling food to have a system in place in this day and age. They also have no system to say whose order is whose. They just place it out and then only when prompted say what the drink is so then customers figure out if it’s theirs or not. Causes a bit of a flow problem and confusion. It’s hard to trust businesses anymore that don’t even attempt to have concern for customer safety.Quality is great, management and cost is not.
Sorry Grace - I had high hopes for you but not only was the barista not wearing a mask (it was not too hot and the garage doors were open), neither was the person preparing food. Through the open kitchen door I watched him wipe his nose with his wrist just above his glove, all while handling food. Im not normally a mask-enforcer but I do think its poor form for the folks who are actually making and handling my food and drink to not be wearing one.
Great coffee and brunch experience on the go! Highly recommend 👌
