Friends turned us on to this place and it was great, cleaning out our library and got some $$ for books and CDs (not a lot). But the great selection of used books, movies, CD, vinyl, games, puzzles, etc. It was a blast from the past and found a couple nuggets! Staff were friendly and the place clean and will laid out.

I inadvertently gave them one star! They deserve 10 stars! My partner introduced me to McKay Book Store a few years ago. I was overwhelmed by the size of the store and the number of books they had. They also have DVDs, vinyl records, CDS and lots more. We make a trip there at least twice a month. My greatest find there was a copy of a book that I had read at least 15 years ago. It was a book I definitely wanted to keep. Unfortunately, the co-worker I lent it to left and never returned it. Because the book has been out of print for many years i was unable to replace my copy. For the past five years visiting McKays I automatically started checking the shelves for the book, to no avail. Earlier this year, when we felt it was safe enough to go out, the first place we visited was McKays. I went looking for the book and there it was! If you love to read I encourage you to check out McKays!

BLUF: Low trade value, low historical selection, and poor customer service. Find another bookstore.I had high hopes for McKay after family recommended I check it out. The only thing keeping this from being a one star review is that they offer games, books, vinyl, and movies in one place.The trade in values are hilariously low. I was offered ~$18 for about 30 books, some of which were virtually new. What’s more, some of this money was only available as store credit and there was no way I could receive the whole amount (even a reduced amount) in cash. Furthermore, they don’t allow you to take, or even see, offers on single books, only offering one, all or nothing, estimate. Finally, most (not all) of the staff seemed annoyed that I would even ask about such things.While I waited to hear my offer (about 40 minutes) I browsed their history selection and was very disappointed. I can’t speak to the other portions of the store but the selection here was pretty limited, with almost nothing in the way of deep, scholarly history books. They did have an excellent selection of modern military works nearby though.

McKays is wish fulfillment in brick and mortar form. Its essentially Disneyland for bookworms, movie buffs, vinyl hunters, comic collectors, and gamers alike, an unlikely pop culture haven tucked away in Manassas. Dont let your initial visit dissuade you from returning, as the sheer volume overwhelms most (myself included) upon first entering. Never go in a rush; take it all in gradually and youll eventually get the lay of the land. Aside from the custom giddiness of discovering the unknown (they update their inventory regularly), theres a comforting sense of nostalgia amongst the aisles--whether its rediscovering a childhood item or seeing couples peruse the DVD section Friday nights the way they used to in the days of Blockbuster, theres a homey familiarity to McKays that makes you want to just assemble a fort out of books, hole up and stay awhile.

If you want to get lost in book upon books upon books, then this is the place to be. I love this place, my friend from Maryland comes down to visit me so we can spend the day browsing their selections grabbing some nearby coffee and just enjoying life. Its the perfect place to swing by on a Saturday morning, grabbing 5-6 books at a time at an insanely cheap price. Highly recommend.

McKay fits my ideal preference for a used book store. Its aesthetically simple with a large selection and shockingly low prices. I wish I could figure out how they price things because sometimes one copy of a book will have a lower price and better condition than another copy, but that can make the search fun.

This place has a large collection of books and movies and are pretty well organized. You can also find a good number of collectibles, video games, puzzles, and board games. The prices seemed reasonable on most items. Will definitely be back time to time to see what is on display.

McKays was a surprise for me. While taking a trip to Ollies Bargain Outlet (next door) i decided to check it out. Im really glad I did. They have a HUGE store!!! No idea what this building was in a pay life... But it was big. Its full of absolutely TONS of books, DVDs, games, and much more. They had an endless supply of paperbacks, and a surprising number of hardcover books too. They have graphic novels, playstation and Xbox games, and even some toys like Nerf guns for sale! Their staff is a little busy behind the plastic covered counters (covid and all), but the cashier who rang me up was very nice. Ill probably head back again soon.

Terrible service, rude people, not clear rule. Even called ahead, still confusing. If you travel from far, double check or think twice...We told our neighbor about the place and took them with us. We drove 40 mins and then we were told we were treated as one group, even two cars two families, they won’t let us have our own crates. What’s the point?! Totally wasting our time. I do not recommend them, and won’t return.BTW, they bought our books for almost nothing but we found out the books we bought from them cost even more than what we found on Amazon and eBay. So, if you are a shopper also be aware of that. Do search before checking out.This is not professional and unfair practice.

Always well organized and delightful browsing experience. I come here mostly for vinyl records and most of the stuff here is always very eclectic or random but it makes for finding some very cool records! All usually fairly cheap too! I wouldnt come here to necessarily buy recent releases on vinyl as youll struggle but if youre up for adventure and finding a weird record or new book this is a good spot.

I grew up in Dallas with Half Priced Books and was glad to find this store after moving to the DC area. Great prices for what they buy, especially if you take store credit. Low prices and excellent selection. Its always worth the drive.

Its rare to find a bookstore this big with such a great vibe. Its really like being in a time machine and heading back to the 90s. I like how you can also trade your old stuff to them and use the money for new books, DVDs, or CDs. Their CD selection is excellent and really helped me to expand my collection. I went on a Saturday. It was pretty busy, but it has a huge selection of books. They are definitely well loved copies, but sometimes you can find a newer book. They are all priced at bargain basement cost. I did bring in books to trade. They said when I checked in it would take about an hour and a half to process them and that was accurate. Id suggest if you dont want to wander around the bookstore for over an hour, you should drop off your trade and wait the text alert.

A great place for book lovers. Large selection in almost any topic. The prices are very reasonable, too. They also will buy your old books for cash or trade. However, you will only be offered a few cents on the dollar.

Visiting to browse video gaming items, I was mildly impressed with the variety in titles. A good amount of uncommon items were available during my visit. Seeing these in any store is nice, as it gives the collection and store a greater personality. However, the section is small, but this isnt McKays Used Games, is it?Staff are situated in a secluded section working at pricing many of the incoming items. Being curious at seeing titles new to me, I did see what the current market value is for some. Dont be surprised if youre paying on par for individual items. However, its a plus that you see what items conditions are in-person.I did not look in particular at books or music, but each of these sections are both much more extensive.

Fantastic selection of books, and the system to accept and evaluate materials customers bring in is efficient and fair. I brought a large bin in, and had a very fair store credit ready in about 15 minutes. I know they have other media but I did not look at that on my first visit. But I will definitely be making this a very regular destination.

The first time I went to McKays I spent two hours there just looking at the vast amount of books they had. I was truly a kid in a candy shop. Their books are so unbelievably inexpensive and I walked out with 20+ books for under $30. Everyone there was very helpful and kind. You HAVE to come here if you are a book lover!

Theyve got a decent sized bargain book section. Its hit or miss, but I can always find a couple of hardbacks for 25 cents a piece. They sort their books by genre very well. Theres a good variety within their regular priced books and videos.I like that I can sell my books and videos there and use the store credit to buy my purchases.The employees are always super friendly and helpful!

Like any used book store they may not always have the book youre looking for but I almost always run across something else to pick up.They also will give you credit for trading in books at a reasonable exchange. The staff has also been helpful Everytime Ive spoken with them.They also have a decent collection of board and electronic games, CDs, and figures.Overall a good place to look.

The store itself was better than the score indicates. Even a four. They are well organized, have tall shelves with clear labeling. But unfortunately, every experience is impacted by the people attracted there. Patrons do not respect the posted rules nor are those rules fully enforced. Going earlier definitely has its advantages - less people, less children without masks. Having to guard my own space and adjust because people readily infringed was exhausting. One man literally touched a book I had selected and asked if I was going to buy it! Worse, this happened after his constant frittering around me while I perused shelves he had already searched! It was unnerving and aggravating.On the positive, their prices overall are fair for their products. And they even have a free bin which has posted one seeker at a time - though again you might have to GENTLY remind people of this rule.So go, but go either early or late. As a book lover, I hope you find something good to read.

This was my first time at Mckays. I traded in a bunch of old CDs and got $22.50 in store credit. It took about 30 to 45 minutes. Hang out and shop. They will call or text you when they have values you items. Good job.

Recently moved near by (about 45 minutes from here) we continue to come back. Prices are great and love that they also carry board games! Went in to give books, movies and cds however the guy was difficult and he wouldnt let me go separate from my family member whom lives in different state for us to make separate deposits. They also didnt accept most items and we had to unpack and take back home only for me to use another donation site! Was a waste of time going and will NEVER go there again.
