Maybe one of the best shops in the country for guitar setup and work. Ive had a few guitars set up up and down the east coast. The Music Techs really do the best work. Just before Im about to sell a guitar I dont think I need, I take it in to the Music Techs just for a setup and tune up and then I cant put it down! I end up keeping it! Thanks guys! Thanks Mick!

I just bought a used Epiphone Masterbilt. Had these guys do a setup and fret leveling. I was a little worried because Im new to the area and this was my first time with The Music Techs... That said, they did a fantastic job. Guitar sounds amazing. Frets are perfect. Action feels great. Very pleased with the work. Reasonably priced as well. Definitely will go back.

Ive been a guitarist for 20 years and these are the best techs Ive ever dealt with. Doug saved a mandolin of mine that most techs would have looked at and said sorry, theres no hope for that thing. These guys have done a bunch of great work for me over the years and I always make the extra drive to have them work on my instruments when they need repairs.

My Line 6 Helix was having issues and I had a window to get it fixed so I could still gig with it. Mick and the team are incredibly accomodating and 100% customer focused. They went further than I expected and you can tell they really care about what they do. Highly-highly recommended

Been coming here for a few years and have had several guitars worked on by these guys. Recently got a bone nut done and had some issues with fret buzz within the 60 day warranty. These guys honored the warranty and went above and beyond to make sure it played the way it should. No one else is touching my guitars!

Mick is the man! Nice guy and really knows his stuff. I was in a bind with a big show coming up and he found a way to squeeze me in on the spot. Took real good care of my Montage 8, patiently answered all of my questions and got things fixed up in a hurry. Mick went above and beyond!

Hello, I dont know what the hang up is with the guy from MO but I can tell you from past experiences with each time I have used the Music Techs that they are truly professional in every way, have always paid attention to detail and more often then not explained exactly what my instrument needed and why. Even the time when I bought a custom pick-up from a Nationally known and respected company but I did not care for the sound / performance of the pick up, they custom wound the pick up for me and now I have a new bass that sounds exactly what I was looking for. The workshop appearance, well thats exactly what it is, a professional workshop. If youre looking for polished floors and spit shine everywhere go to your local furniture store. Oh, one last thing, over the years they have always called when my instrument was ready.

Been meaning to post this for awhiiile. I brought in an Event monitor that had a broken tweeter. Mick checked it out and told me what the best thing to do wasβ€”to order the new tweeter directly from the company and install it myself. Showed me how to do it. No charge. It all worked out great and I love my Events. Couldnt have done it without Micks help. Ive also had a guitar fixed and set up here. Great shop.

I brought a guitar to get a basic setup and they caused more problems than they fixed. I had a string that wasnt ringing fully, and they slightly fixed that but in the process they caused 3 others to buzz. Action was too low when I got it and there are metal filings in the pickups (even though i didnt get the frets dressed or anything). There is also some hardware buzzing that wasnt there previously. They have inspired me to buy tools and start repairing my guitars myself.

(I posted the following review on their Facebook page.)Amiable people and great service. Highly recommended.None of the knobs on my Fender strat were working, strings were rusted, and a basic service was needed. The knobs were rolling rigidly 360 degrees (which they are not supposed to). The repair shop at my town said there are electronics issues, and it will cost $250; I dont know much about guitars, so I just believed them. When I took my guitar to The Music Techs, Mark was like oh this should be around $50. I told him there might be electronics issues and that the knobs are not working. He took the guitar (right then) to a senior guy who was working in their big workshop. He fixed the knobs right in front of my eyes in a minute! I was so pleasantly surprised. They also gave me a summer discount.Bottom line: totally satisfied with the experience.

I recently visited The Music Techs with a classical guitar I brought in for a fretless conversion project. Upon arrival, I was immediately approached by a β€œtech” named Seth Howard who stopped what he was doing to ask how he could assist. From the initial introduction, this young man was friendly, attentive, and clearly eager to help me. Seth understood exactly what I wanted done, and while he was describing my options, another fellow, an older β€œtech” who overheard our conversation, chimed in with some ideas of his own regarding the options Seth provided. It turns out the this β€œolder fella” was the shop’s Grand Master, a luthier of some renown named Doug MacCormack, whose pedigree as a luthier spans four decades. As someone who never before stepped foot into this establishment, my encounter with The Music Techs was amazing. First, I was provided expert advice from two luthiers with a combined 60+ years. Second, the guitar I brought in cost $199 retail, and they treated the project as if they were working on a vintage, priceless Martin. Despite being a relatively inexpensive job for a low-end guitar, Seth and Doug provided me their full attention, treating me as if I was a returning customer with a potentially lucrative job. When Seth called two days later to pick up the guitar, his work exceeded my expectations 10-fold. The guitar did not look altered in anyway, as if it came out of the manufacturer with the fretless mod he performed. Also, the cost of the project was far less than what was quoted by any competitor within a 100-mile radius. If your guitar (or any stringed instrument) is a precious member of your musical family, and you want the best available customer service and the highest-level expertise to help you with any projectβ€”big or smallβ€”look no further. You can count on The Music Techs to deliver an end product that far exceeds any expectations you have in mind.Customer service: A+Quality of work: A+Cost: A+Friendliness/attentiveness: A+

I just had my second amp, a Victoria tweed bassman, gone through by Mark. The amp was cutting out in the bright input channel. Mark called me and talked for almost 20 minutes while he looked through the amp. He discovered that the previous owner had done a mod where three of the inputs had been in essence joined together. He explained that he did not know why this mod would have been done, but if I was happy with the way the amp sounded, that he could keep this mod and look for the source of the breakup. I asked him to bring the inputs back to OEM standards and go through the rest of the amp. I got the amp back yesterday and it sounds glorious.Last year Mark went entirely through my vibrochamp that was sounding anemic. He found that one of the input tubes, although new, was very weak in signal. he also replaced a resistor and cleaned all of the pots. The amp is now solid and loud. You can trust your gear with this man... He knows his stuff.Jim Miller

I brought my recently purchased used SG in for a set up. I also mentioned that the nut seemed off to me - pinging while tuning and maybe not cut correctly. Their web site states that setups include polishing frets, oiling fingerboard, adjusting truss rod, action at bridge and nut, pickup height, tightening tuners and all hardware, Re-stringing, clean and lubricate electronics, intonation by strobe tuner. After they had it for a week I got it back and it seemed like the only thing they did was changes the strings. The nut still pings when I tune the high E, I saw no sign that the frets had been polished, the fingerboard had been oiled, the pickup height adjusted, etc. I opened the electronics cavity on the back and it was clear that it hadnt been opened for years. When I went to pick it up, I mentioned that the action seemed exactly the same as when I dropped it off. The tech made a remark about oh yeah, I can lower the action and gave a quarter turn to the bridge while I stood there. The action has no noticeable improvement, but I now have fret buzz on the open g and b strings. Basically, I feel like I paid $45 for a string change.I had a great Tech when I lived in St. Charles MO - ATD Guitars. Next trip back to MO, Ill bring it to him, but I wont be going back to the Music Techs. Oh, and they dont call you when the guitar is ready - you have to call them and ask. My wife went with me when I dropped it off and she commented on the overall state of disarray of the workshop and the lack of customer service focus, so it wasnt just me that was feeling that way.One reviewer said: Hello, I dont know what the hang up is with the guy from MO. No hang up, just a lack of good service from the Music Techs, as I specifically detailed in my post. Im glad you had a better experience than I did. Since then, I went to Whitsett Guitar in Lowell and it was night and day, An organized professional shop, they do good work and he called me when my guitar was ready.
