The beer is phenomenal! They do wonders at brewing with a more British twist, and recreating the jovial pub atmosphere! I couldnt even stop to take a picture until I had drunk them all!

Excellent drinks, food, and atmosphere. Started with the sampler platter for a low price, high volume app, then had an incredibly generous calamari salad I had to share it was so much food! I highly recommend you pull up a seat and grab a mug!

I had fish and chips and a salad. I did not come for beer. The fish and chips were essentially fish sticks. The fries were tasty and they were well done as I asked for them. The salad dressing was definitely a generic brand from Costco. Service was fast and friendly. Nice little setup outside. Very covid-19 compliant. Price was reasonable. Not terribly disappointed, but will not be going out of my way to come back.

I went to eat classic fish and chip after reading the reviews in this small town. Taste of fish and potato fries was below average. I got a bad heartburn after I left this place. My drive was 2 and half hours and I got better after eating pepto bismol at home. Their food made complete drive unpleasant. Service was normal. If you feel sick after eating the food whole experience becomes zero. I do not recommend this place atleast fish and chips big no!! Its possible they used spoiled frying oil.

By far one of my favorite stops in the Monterey/Marina area, OK so the food is ok, not fabulous my dear.. but what the F did you expect, its a beer place, what really make the English Ale the spot, is the experience, the staff, the guests, the food and the BEER already. this place is living proof that the sum is more than the parts. if you fancy a pint and some grub to go with it from a friendly but not hipsters type server.. this is a no-brainer, why are you still reading? just go already.

Stopped on our way home from the beach. Due to COVID-19 we had to order outside. Im glad we did stop. We just had the friendliest server. The food was just absolutely delicious!!

Definitely a locals hangout. They had about a dozen home brews on tap. I tried each of the ales. They were all quite good but Fat Lip was my fave. Theyve also got a good English themed menu, although I had a party melt with a cup of chili, which were both excellent. Only reason I knocked off a star on the rating was because what another reviewer said...barkeep was definitely more interested in chatting with the regulars than pouring me another draft, but its worth the stop if youre in the area.

Service was painfully slow. There appeared to be only one server and she frequently stopped to chat with people... Which is nice except when you have a full house. It was about 15 min from when we sat to when our drink orders were taken. Another long wait to put in a food order, then we had to find the server to get our check and again to actually pay it.The beer was good. The sausages were good. The fries were good.Bottom line: sit at the bar and youll be fine. If you want food... Maybe eat some place else first.

Great variety of English ales. Service genuinely friendly. My husband LOVED his Philly cheeseteak sandwich. My crab and shrimp sandwich ok. Fries not so great. Friendly atmosphere. If were in the area again well likely return.

Favorite brewery in Monterey area. The Fat Lip ale is my favorite beer of all time and this was the first place I was fortunate enough to experience this amazing beer. They have many other craft beers and a nice food selection as well. It is a small brewery, so it can be packed quite quick. Very popular with the college crowd.

My dads favorite place to go to. Their food use to be real greasy but now it is awesome. I love this place and their beer. Great service as well

Great find in Marina, and now actually one of our regular stops when in Monterey. The fish and chips is fantastic, the Philly cheese steak is great, skip the fish sandwich (its just their delicious fish between two pieces of bread, and thats it). The beers are really good too and the pretty much have a brew for every pallet.

I enjoyed the Amber and Porter, well worth the stop.

If you are looking for a Pub experience, this is the only place to go.We shared the fish, bangers, and chips and all were great. The fish was fried perfectly and the sausage was very authentic.....The spicy mustard is a must.GET THE CHICKEN WINGS as well! The breading and crispness are the best I have ever had...truly amazing.Dont let the strip-mall location fool you. This place is great.

Great people and homie spot to be! Love all the beers on tap. They swap the cask beer out weekly and I’ve had the porter and monks which are Delicious! Yum! I love the monterey bay wheat! It has a sweet finish that I’ve not had in other beers.

Good locals place & close to Hwy 101. 12 craft beers made here that get rotated. Food was good and affordable. English pub style, put a mug on the ceiling.

Hard to find entrance, smelled pretty weird, and they dont serve food before 5. Didnt end up eating here, but also probably wont be back. Staff seemed nice though :)

Locals friendly but they make most anyone and everyone feel at home here, if you take the time to enjoy the experience. The beer is excellent here and the pub fare is standard but not spectacular.

Want to update my review after two years.The food is still top notch. The Fish and Chips are thebest from here to Monterey in my Opinion. The ploughmans lunch is also one of favorites. Fried pickles are also amazing.I keep wanting to try the burgers, cheese steaks etc, but every time I just want that fish.This is a local business with good food and good beer. Consider having some take out so we come out of this crisis with a community resource on the other side.

English Ales is the oldest brew pub in the area. They have a variety of great beers and their food isnt half bad. Its a quaint and comfortable spot and its definitely a local favorite!

A low-key joint to relax with a tasty beer. I like the corkscrew ale (it has the lowest alcohol content). The decor is fun but they are ready for a renovation or newer building. I will keep taking my family and friends there.

This isnt a place for families. Mostly locals, who kinda starred at as like who are you when we came in. The cold sandwiches are mixed in with the hot so when we ordered we didnt realize we ordered deli sandwiches. The beer was good. But the waitress was aloof. Then on my way home I felt like vomiting. The other family with us had their son vomiting when they got home and everyone complained they had upset stomach & queasy. I would stay away from here unless you just want beer. And even then, I didnt feel that welcome like you should.

Usually good place to go for a cold one. Had dinner with a local friend few nights ago. Place was pretty busy and only one waitress. Food came an hour late, portions were low and quality not that good and cold. Not waitresses fault, but manager did nothing after talking to my buddy. Too bad...
