We decided to try out Donckers because the name was very distinctive. The shop has an early twentieth century feel, with the shop portion displaying items in every nook and cranny. An amazing array of candies and chocolates are on sale, and appear to be made onsite. We put our name on the list for seating upstairs and within about 10 minutes we were seated. Everyone was very friendly and nice. We ordered burgers and an order of mac and cheese. I had the firecracker burger, and it was a great combo of flavors. I personally did not feel like it was spicy, but then I also eat very spicy foods daily. My son had a bacon cheeseburger and pronounced it excellent. My other son was not a fan of the mac and cheese, which was a shame. The ambience, food and people here guaranteed that well be back!
Everything was fantastic! Staff were all wearing masks and the restaurant was relatively clean. I had the mac and cheese on the specialty menu, called the Mac attack. My partner had a turkey sandwich. Both were marvelous! You have to walk through a candy store to get into the restaurant, so we couldnt not buy chocolates on the way out ☺️
We loved this restaurant, it had so much flair and character. The food was also delicious! Everything we ordered was great. Especially the macaroni and cheese, it is a MUST order! Some of these best Mac n cheese weve tried, though if you are feeding kids it might be a bit rich for their palates, it was definitely homemade and not out of a box 😉.Be sure to save room for ice cream after your meal, such a fun restaurant and chocolate shop.
We booked Donckers/Delft Bistro for a brunch after our daughters wedding in October 2021. Their food was delicious, the staff was masked and attentive. They helped to make our post wedding time with family very enjoyable.
Something for absolutely everyone! As you enter the store, the chocolates counter alone is enough to make your sweet tooth start buzzing. We could have taken one of everything. There is a treat for every kind of sugar buzz, and a great selection of Marquette/UP souvenirs too. Upstairs is a relaxed breakfast and lunch spot for casual eats (we didn’t actually dine in during our stop through). Don’t walk out the door without a dessert—or two. What a cool local spot.
We stopped in here to get some local treats before heading out of town. Very friendly staff who gave us samples of various candies to try before buying. We bought some chocolate covered almonds, coke bottle gummies, jelly beans, and caramel squares embedded with cookies.Would definitely stop in again the next time we are in town.
My friend and I visited early Saturday morning and had a short wait before being seated. Waited 15 min for our server to come over where she didn’t even acknowledge the wait or introduce herself. The coffee was terrible tasting which was disappointing since we expected to have some flavored. Overheard the table next to us complaining about their food to each other and they left with over 3/4ths of theirs plates left with food on it. The other table complained about waiting 50 min. It was busy but out of the 6 tables by us, there were only 3 of us seated and none of the waitresses seemed like they were rushing or in a hurry. After a 40 min wait, our food arrived. My eggs weren’t cooked at all and when I pointed this out to our waitress, she told me she’d speak with a a manger. The manager never even came by to apologize and the waitress never did either. She offered to comp $3 off a $12 meal and I accepted since I did not want to wait another 40 min for the food.Very disappointed and it seemed that many others that day were too. Would not return and would not recommend.
This place is amazing and the food is delicious. I cant wait to come back. This is my new favorite comfort food!
Was the first time there and I would definitely go back again. The food was excellent and the service was great. One of my friends that I was with is a vegan and they went under their way to make sure that she would have an amazing lunch too. If youre ever in the area its worthwhile going. On a side note being up above the candy chocolate store is a bonus 😁
Couldnt have had a better breakfast - and such a neat place to visit! The food was executed very well - I had the traditional Hash Smash. The portion was perfect - filling but not overboard, and the price is on point. Three people with drinks and full menu items was around $45. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and the wait staff was great! Highly recommend if youre in the area!
Donckers is a Marquette institution that is a place the locals swear by, and for good reason. Excellent breakfast and lunch food, and the best chocolates bar none. It is a absolute must if you are in Marquette. Excellent friendly staff, old school sodas, candy, and ice cream too. They get busy sometimes, but only because their service and products are top notch. Ask any local, they will say the same. 😀 125 years in business does not happen by accident, they have attentive owners that run a tight ship.
Great place. Truffles. Salted caramel milk and dark chocolate. Peanut butter cups. Malt balls. All had repeat orders for guests who had them and left before we did. All the way to PNW.
We went on a busy weekend and had to wait a bit for a table but it wasnt too long. The food options were relatively diverse and good enough to warrant the higher price range. The vegetarian sandwich was good but not spectacular. The house made bread was fantastic and easily the best part of my sandwich.
The food was good. We came in right as lunch was about to start. I recommend the broccoli Mac! Its gouda based mac and cheese.
While the food was good, the service was not great. The person who took off order was impatient and slightly passive aggressive. Made my family and I feel like an inconvenience instead of like patrons. Definitely not the experience were used to having in Donckers.
Deli-style menu with sandwiches including vegetarian options. Good macaroni and cheese, soups. Sandwiches werent huge, but were filling none the less. Bright decor, friendly and speedy staff. Didnt seem busy the few times weve been.
The chocolate here is immaculate. Friendly and respectful service puts the icing on the cake for me. Definitely hope to go back next time Im in the U.P.
Love this place. My daughter loves the raspberry dark chocolate truffles she calls them pink.
Great food. Cool building. We went twice the week we were in town. Best lunch we found in town.
What a darling place! The chocolate counter is awesome but the food is even better. Had a great bowl of mac and cheese that was brought out quickly! Definitely worth going to for lunch if youre downtown.
Stopped in for a quick pickup of some pesto from the cooler. Its a usual lunch and a personal favorite.
Beware of the unmarked “pay” parking row adjacent to Main Street in the parking lot behind Donckers. It’s too bad getting a ticket while trying to support a local business is such an easy thing to get since the city hasn’t clearly marked the row. Great chocolate shake. Unfortunately, cold coffee, dry Mac n cheese, long wait to pay the bill, very few noodles in a cup of chicken noodle soup. I’d probably skip this for lunch next time, but I’d return for the shake.
Cool place. I love the old creeky floors of an old building. Service was a bit slow and inattentive. Food was very good.
I dont even get any candy here. So I cant speak to that. But the lunches at are amazing
The food was really good! Such a cute lunch spot with a good variety of unique sandwiches. They even have a little shop downstairs to look at while you wait or after you eat.The only annoying part was the wait due to the capacity limits and social distancing. Which was out of their control and understandable.Definitely would recommend this place!
Great food, small portions. Would come back but they split tips. What’s the point of tipping your incredible server big when the manager-who you’ve never interacted with- is sitting in the back gets a cut of it? I feel for anyone who works here.
I ordered the East Coast Reuben and it was fantastic. The quality of the food was exceptional and as fresh as you would hope or expect for a quality restaurant. The restaurant was clean and empty. Social distancing measures were fully enforced and masks were always implemented while the friendly, helpful staff was interacting with us.
Went here casually for a brunch and were really surprised with good food, great service and an awesome time.A must-stop-at for anyone visiting Marquette. Candy selection is huge and fudge is made on site.Old-fashioned soda fountain on first floor, great restaurant upstairs. Farm to table selections on menu. Very clean, welcoming and comfy atmosphere, efficient employees. Lovely historic building. Family-operated business, where the friendly owners are seen regularly, hard at work.
Let me start with BEST MAC-N-CHEESE EVER!!!!!Not a single complaint!! Food was as fresh as could be. 3 different meals all were amazing. Service was on point!! Thank you Alicia!!Wish we lived closer, I’d eat it daily!! Wish I could have it shipped to me it’s so good!!
I came here this morning for a business meeting as a first-time Donckers customer. What a great experience! This is a hometown favorite with a retro feel. Easy to find on Washington in downtown Marquette either by parking in front or in the rear. The street floor has a charming old-time soda fountain with lots of candies, perfect for the kids. The upper floor is designed as a retro-style diner with a 1950s feel. The food was excellent, as was the service. I met the owner Tom briefly, and he is a true class act. He has a firm handshake and a warm, welcoming smile. They have very neat loyalty program where you have a rock artfully designed with an assigned number, that you can use, at each visit. Overall a great place for friends, family, and food!
Cute restaurant with a candy counter, soda fountain, and a few outdoor tables. Food was delicious. Good service when we were there.
Cool store with lots of options floor to floor. Didnt eat here because the wait was long and we were trying to leave town. Next time though! It certainly smelled great!
The best sweet treats spot in the UP! The candy selection is very good. The soda jerks are friendly and make great shakes, sundaes, and hand dipped items. They have a nice selection of gifts as well.
Very Good The People Are Nice The Food Is Delicious Get The Club On White Bread With The Mac N Cheese Very Good Seriously You Guys Gotta Try This Place
The food here is incredible! I had a sandwich and my husband had an omelet. We got in early so there wasn’t a wait yet, great service too!
Im not a big sandwich person, but the sandwich I had was enjoyable.
One of those chill old school places that we all wanted to go to but could rarely find. A literal ton of food for a really good place. My only regret is I only got to eat here once.
Great food! A little on the pricey side though. But delicious, nonetheless. Cute shop. Tons of chocolate candies 🤤
Really enjoyed our breakfast here! Shop is adorable with lots to browse through while you wait for your table. I recommend the Yooper breakfast sandwich!
We ordered the Broccoli mac n cheese, broccoli roasted side, Caesar, chopped salad, and a burger. Broccoli Mac was our favorite. Everything else was ok. Our server was nice and that’s nice.
Great little spot in Marquette to get a sandwich, malt, and homemade chocolate truffles in multiple flavors.
Id give it a 100/20! Their milkshakes are excellent as is the food! Where we were at, there were pictures of Former President Obama visiting this place!
Food was great! Service was very good!
A must stop destination everytime we come to town. Love all the different choices of Chocolates and cute gift merchandise. They also have a deli/diner on-site and an ice cream counter
Quirky restaurant that does offer Udis gluten free bread. Had a BLT that hit the spot. They sell chocolate here as well.
Massive cinnamon rolls. Delicious!
Cute little shop! They have great lunch food and super yummy chocolate!
Very good food and relic atmosphere...fun
Such nice & friendly staff & theyre very accommodating for allergies!
Went out to breakfast here and they said they were too busy to make any eggs. Its basically a Dressed up Subway With sandwiches half the size and twice as expensive. Hummus was terribly old too
The food is great and all but the last 3 times I ordered a sandwich add bacon and every time I only get bacon. I made it clear I wanted the steak and add bacon and I keep getting my order with only bacon. I would get five stars if my order wasn’t always wrong but that’s too many times. I don’t write negative reviews ever but literally my order is always wrong when I get food here
Great food! Needs foofy coffee options.
Good food and a really friendly staff.
Super cool old building and business with a candy store, lunch counter and ice cream parlor all in the same place.Good service, great selection and food at the lunch counter, and a stellar selection of bespoke chocolate.
Great place, great atmosphere, inventive menu items, but what really impressed me was the attentiveness of the order taker, as well as the sustainable farm to table menu.
I stumbled upon Donckers while looking for a nice breakfast place. While I missed breakfast at Donckers, their lunch did not disappoint. Their staff is friendly, food is relatively inexpensive, and the atmosphere is wonderfully simple. The place was rather full but there is more than enough seating especially with the gorgeous patio seating. Food was delicious, with some of the best homemade pickles Ive tasted. Theres enough variety with a large amount of vegetarian options which shouldnt ever disappoint.
Quite tasty, excellent GF protections, awesome candy store.
Great service and friendly staff! Dog friendly on cute deck patio :) the food was amazing- brunch, lunch and dinner.
They had gluten free options for my wife, and they had an awesome selection of omelettes and other delicious breakfast dishes.
Cool local restaurant and Candy Shop. Great food and cozy atmosphere.
Great local place with a real history behind it. The owners care about where they started from and are happy to tell you about it. The food was very good and very creative. They had ever changing daily lunch specials which were always unique. We ended up eating either breakfast or lunch here at least 3 times during our week stay in Marquette and stopped by the first floor candy shop more times than that just to grab a hand full of treats for the day. They also have a soda fountain and ice cream as well. A really great place and a must stop for anyone visiting Marquette.
I recently went to Donker’s. I was very disappointed. They were out of fudge! I haven’t been home in over a year! 🙁 The last time I was home they only had 1 kind of fudge.Otherwise service was great!
Good food. Service was a bit slow but they seemed short staffed and was nice.
Our only complaint was that they didnt open earlier so we could eat here every morning we were in town. Fantastic breakfast!
Refreshingly excellent lunch and breakfast menus, with lots of healthy and vegetarian options. also had a blueberry malt with whipped cream that made me want to gain 40 pounds and do this every day. ahem! chocolate counter is fantastic. very hard to choose as the options are all tantalizing. large candy selection. get the gummy fishes. old fashioned parlor setting with fresh phosphate sodas, etc. has indoor and outdoor seating. great service from all the staff here. very well run and managed. impressed
We were up in Marquette to visit our friends Jeff and Caitlin and their family and we stopped here for ice cream and candy and had lunch and we had a fantastic time definitely give this place five stars I would give it six but it only gives me the opportunity to give it five come on up enjoy a little donkers.
Delicious breakfast in an awesome, nostalgic building LOVED IT!
Great breakfast. We enjoyed the outdoor seating.
Donckers us a 2 level facility. The lower level has a huge candy and chocolate counter and a small touristy store and a small eating area. The upper level has a kitchen area and a few dining areas. You order from the counter and they bring your food out to you. The food is primarily soup, sandwiches and mac & cheese. My son had a Reuben sandwich was nice, thick and tender. My wife a a cup of tomato soup, that had actual tomatoes in it. She also had a macaroni and cheeses made with real cheese and ham bits. I ordered a Turkey club sandwich on a panini type bread that was delicious and just the right amount of basil.
I visited Marquette once for a week about three years ago now and one of the main reasons I want to go back is Donckers! They have the most amazing products, all made with love and care, and you cant find this kind of quality anywhere else! My favorite sweet they have are their dark chocolate covered raisins! They are the best ones Ive ever had, I still find myself craving them constantly. I just need to figure out if they will ship them all the way to Texas now! But seriously, if youre ever in Marquette and want something sweet go to Donckers, yall most certainly wont regret it!
Awesome ice cream and wonderful staff.
I didnt have high expectations when I heard there was a restaurant above a chocolate shop but the service and food were both great. Ill be back for sure.
The parfait was good- fresh fruits, granola and yogurt. Friendly staff too.
Stopped there for lunch this past Wednesday. I have Celiac Disease and was very happy to have a real sandwich! I ordered the Pestcasso on GF bread, and it was delicious. My husband got a burger and thought it was decent. We also got a raspberry shake and a mint chocolate chip shake, which were both very tasty. All of the staff were very friendly. After our meal, we went downstairs and purchased some tasty salted caramel treats. I would definitely go to this place again.
The food was good but we had to wait 45 minutes for our food. They were hustling so I cant be mad.
Great food with lots of taste. Stopped in for lunch with friends while passing through town. Staff was friendly and it didnt take long at all to get our food. Had always heard this place a local favorite and now I see why. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick bite to eat.
Good service, variety food,
