I’ve come here about 6 or 7 times over the last 10 months. I really wanted to like the place but every time I come in I have a similar experience. There’s usually 2-3 employees hanging out and talking amongst themselves. They never greet me or say hi. I look at their cases to see if there are any singles I would like and am completely ignored.I’ve been to 6 or 7 different card shops across Ohio and Kentucky and this is the only one that doesn’t list their prices. I know prices fluctuate based on the market but it’s almost as if they aren’t even attempting to make sales. The prices they charge on the items I ask about are frequently over market value.If you’re looking for a card shop and don’t mind a bit of a drive then I recommend IDS in Florence Mall or Monster Games in Alexandria. The staff there was a lot more helpful and friendly than at Maverick’s. I can confidently say I will not be coming back.

I arrive at the store and wait 20 minutes without being helped or even talked to. 2 of the 3 staff were ignoring customers leaving the third to help the customers. I’ve been a patron of this store for nearly 8 years. I’ll not be returning.

Stopped by while on vacation and it was great! Wish my local store was more like this. Everyone was very nice and they had a great selection and a nice atmosphere. I visited all of the gaming stores in town and this one was by far the best.

This used to be a great store for browsing and purchasing board games but after visiting today, their selection had deminished to practically nothing. Not sure if this is due to recent renovations but unless you are looking for MTG or D&D stuff, Id save yourself a trip and look elsewhere for your board game fix.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff, and tons of space to play! Mavericks has a great selection of WH40K (and other models) as well as board games! Just wished they held Yugioh events 😭

Disappointed with the store. I use to love coming in and checking out their selection on Warhammer and Magic. After switching the name from Game Swap to Mavericks, and replacing a lot of their employees my experience has generally gone down hill.Aside from the Warhammer guy (he has always been helpful and aware), the rest of the staff have been rude and inattentive. They favor customers who are their friends first over any other customer, even if the other customers were there first. I have gone in and been ignored as multiple people help 1 person (who was their friend), while other employees were talking to their friends on personal phones. I have had lists picked up where I was charged for cards that I did not receive, been misquoted, and given lower quality of cards for higher quality price. Same goes for card that I am exchanging.The last time I was in, and will unfortunately be the last time I go in, I had given a list of roughly 40 cards to pick up for a new commander deck. There were no other customers in line and yet it took over 15 min to been seen because the gentleman behind the desk was talking on the phone to his friend about a personal matter while others were just looking at cards. When I was finally acknowledge I dropped off a list and said that I could be by tomorrow mid day to pick it up since it was a longer list. To which he said that would be fine and they would definitely be done by then. When I went in the next day, they could not find my cards/list. I saw the list on a back table where nothing had been done with it. Nothing had been pulled or priced out. While it was not the workers fault who was helping me then, I just collected my list and left. This was just after a week ago where something similar happened when I was waiting on just 3 cards.It is a shame, because I really did like this place at one time. However, after a change in staff, the quality of the store has decreased. Many people in my friend circle have had similar experiences and we have all generally agreed to stop shopping here. I hope they get back to what they once were, but until then, I will not be in.

The new RPG room upgrades are game changing!

Been here once, looked for penny sleeves and top loaders for my collection that I recently started again. They werent really able to give me any cause they were out, however there were a bunch of people opening packs and having a good time, and the staff asked if I needed anything a few times. I saw a few things I would like to go back for.

Great store, helpful and friendly staff. Mainly based on MTG but supports other games as well. Should probably expand D&D section too, as Ive been going there for over 2 months now, but havent seen a 5e handbook.

Good to play noon to 5, not as noisy. Has private rooms now, which is great.

Lots of collectable card games and wargame figures as well as some board games and tabletop RPGs. Lots of tables to play games and weekly card game tournaments and figure painting workshops.

The go to place for magic the gathering, tons of cards and great staff.

They no longer have a good selection of games at this location. If you arent into Magic, Pokemon, or a small selection of miniatures games, this is no longer a good spot to go.

Helpful staff. Play mtg drafts there sometimes (Pre Covid) and was treated kindly. Great new guy helping with their miniatures lines. Knowledgeable and did not try to upsell me.Great place, fair prices, good selection.

For what the business is it does a great job. Its not really a Game place in the traditional sense, there are some games, vintage ones, nothing extremely modern, but is much more focused on card based games, most notably Magic The Gathering in which they host large tournaments. Weekend nights seem to be packed and popular

Not a Video Game store Anymore Sad!

Beware!! No returns, period. Bought a popular board game for my daughters birthday. Turns out someone else night her the same game. They would not do a return, only an exchange. Next time Ill buy elsewhere.

Interesting crowd, very very very long wait time at the register to get cards. Staff seemed somewhat dismissive at providing a fun, quick and satisfying experience. Was enjoying a fun and quick game of Magic the gathering with some friends, when were were abruptly ushered from our spot and forced to give our table to some regulars. As a newer player who was enjoying their first impressions of the game and store, I an sorry to say I was displeased with my experience.

You can find some very cool uncommon titles behind the glass on the wall but are priced from retail to ridiculous. Pokemon Emerald(loose) for $79.99.... No joke. I wish they weren’t so overpriced.

Right before they moved the games I got to get my son his first video game. He also bought a couple of 5¢ cards and they gave him an extra for free. They were great!!

This establishment is a great place to find older video games, and some new. There is also a wide variety of board/card games. This is the place to look for magic the gathering cards, along with product to enhance the game play. Staff is outstanding with customer service and advice. Stores like this one are getting harder to find. Stop on by and check them out if you like games you wont be disappointed.

Ive been there about 4 times, and normally buy stuff when I do go. But the staff never greets or says anything to you, I stood next to the mtg singles for at least 10 minutes waiting for someone to help and they just talked to eachother and never even asked if I needed help. Sucks seems like a cool shop but its like that every time I go

I visited this store for the first time in a while this past weekend and their employees are great. Last time I was there I felt ignored by all but a few employees and some appeared to be upset when you interrupted their sitting/computer time.This time, the employees were knowledgeable and willing to walk me through the basics of Magic and recommeneded cards that would work well together.They were pretty busy, but it was apparent that they were all working together and tried to get to everyone as fast as possible. I appreciate the time they took with me.

When this store first opened the emphasis was on video games, but that has completely changed. Although the store is rather large the games section only makes up about 1/4 of the space. The rest has been committed to people with questionable hygiene playing Magic the Gathering. Due to the large crowds on weekends its not an inviting experience to come in to shop for games, as many of them are noisy and leave trash everywhere.The prices defy logic and are either at eBays level or higher, with no wiggle room. Selection varies from mediocre to poor, basically anything worthwhile youd want will cost far more than it should. Trading games and consoles is a frustrating experience as well. Despite being in business for years the store does not have a dedicated computer program to track game values for cash or credit. This is basically what happens: you bring a pile of games in, they check condition, search for some on eBay for price references (hence the high prices) and essentially guess on the others. If you were to bring the same games in on separate days and have separate employees process them youll get a different amount every time, its absurd.The only positive to mention is the employees. Theyre friendly, helpful and professional so kudos to them. However, I cannot recommend visiting.

This is a nice place for tabletop games. Lots of tables and pretty well laid out. The people working there were nice and knowledgeable.

Large selection of MTG singles, decent board game selection. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Massive amount of tablespace, so you can come play your own game during big tournaments.

Great place for magic: the gathering and a good spot to have your tabletop group meet regularly if you need a space for that. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays the have modern events. Wednesday and Friday they run standard.

Been here a few times. Like chris mentioned the employees never make any attempt to help you. And a few times that i went here they were closed.

I am from out of town and only stopped by while visiting family. It is an amazing store. If i didnt live 4 hours away i would probably live in this store. Great stuff!

If you dont play Magic, you may be better off going to a different location, as the store often times can be lacking in other capacities. Worth-while retro games arent consistently present in this store, which isnt really their fault, but can be reason to simply look online or at a store in a different location. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and are great to talk nerd-stuff with. Overall, dont get your hopes up to find that one retro game youve been searching endlessly for, though you can expect everything else youd reasonably want from a store like this, with the bonus of a great staff.

If you do not play Magic the Gathering then dont even bother going to this store. If you do you will be treated with No respect from individuals who chuckle at you if you ask about anything other than Magic . I understand there is a huge following and lots of money to be made from these followers but this place needs to remember its a business and to treat other customers with respect and to put more effort in helping customers who do not play the main stream interest. Game Swap do you not want others business?

Very kind staff

Visited Gameswap in Mason from out of town, which happened to be a Friday night. They are open late, there was over 50 people in the store playing Magic and other board games, and the staff was very friendly. Also, I found a great deal on a board game I had been looking for. Will definitely stop when I am through this way again.

This place has changed for the better. I used to have a lot of customer service issues but it seems like they hired a whole new crew. Much better than the last.

This store is unclean and unprofessional 50/50 you get someone nice and helpful. I have bought 4 games from this place all of them where broken (2 for nes 2 for XBOX) there hours are ridiculous. And they give you nothing for used games and they only give store credit. They need to test their games before selling them.

There are 2 good employees. The rest are rude and very unprofessional. Not to mention the atmosphere is NOT new gamer friendly. The shop is unclean and God forbid you interrupt one of the employees games of magic the gathering. There is nothing redeemable about this shop. I will NOT be stepping foot in there anytime soon.

Meh. Seems like a good place to go if youre into Magic the Gathering. Went looking for Pokemon singles, which they do carry. However, none of the cards are priced in the case. You have to flag an employee to help you and wait for them to look up the prices on TCGplayer.The amount of time I waited for the gentlemen to price these cards was aggravating. They claimed they went by TCG mid range but I later looked it up an they were going by TCG high range pricing. I ended up not getting any of the cards I wanted to buy for my collection purely on the poor card condition and the absurd pricing.As far as sealed pokemon products go, you need a pair of binoculars to see what they have as they appear to keep all sealed product behind the counter. Which I appreciate, however, everything is against the wall and the counter sits so far away from the wall that its really hard to see what they have.Overall, Im disappointed and wont be back.

A wide selection of retro games and multiple TCGs. Theres a huge selection of magic cards, and the building is always packed every Friday. If youre a pokemon TCG player, they also have one of the biggest selections in the area as far as singles go.

Good space to play or draft! Can get pretty busy behind the counter if you are looking to buy some booster packs.

The location that is in the Tricounty Mall use to have collectable action figures, after they let those employees go I havent had much use for any of the stores. That being said the Mason location has an inviting staff, Im only usually ever in there for card toploaders and can never find them on the shelves/racks...

My friend and I were thinking about playing some D&D after about 30 years, so I contacted Game Swap for some tips. James offered to run a short introductory campaign for us as a refresher. We had a blast. James is an exceptional DM. I forgot so much in 30 years, but we had a fantastic experience. Really great store, super friendly staff, everything you need for RPGs, card games, etc. Highly recommended for gamers of any level of experience.

For the Cincinnati area there isnt a place with a better selection of MTG around, whether its singles - ranging from legacy to the most current release. And with a venerable selection of board games and videogames all priced out fairly, I find myself stopping back in just to puruse around (and have a difficult time not leaving with something or another ;) ). The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and eager to help. Even when its busy (a draft, etc.) you wont be kept waiting around. Im happy I decided to stop in one random Saturday.. and will continue to be customer for a long time to come!
