One of the best gun shops Ive ever been to. So far, bought two firearms from them and had three more transferred. Everyone Ive dealt with there has always been professional and extremely friendly. Prices are great and even beat online prices on some items. Great people, great place... highly recommended.

Joe Hopkins is a great guy. Good staff and very friendly. If you are interested reloading catch Joe Johnson there and hell show you the ropes. Not to mention very competitive local pricing.

This is the place to get your next (or in my case) first gun! All of the guys knew what they are talking about. They are wicked friendly and a complete bunch of good guys. They have a wide selection and real good prices. They explain everything and dont push you to get what you dont need. They didnt look down on me for not knowing a thing. They are very helpful. Once I learn more and become comfortable carrying my new firearm I will be sure to return for my next one. I had Greg by the way and he was great!

This store reminds me of what a local sporting goods store should be. Great place if your into fishing and hunting. I like checking out the selection of used firearms as you be never know what you might find. Friendly staff.

I got a good deal on a gun. Bought it, no problems whatsoever with anybody there. Very customer service oriented. The owner even called me personally because a latch on my gun box that I got recently wasnt working right, so he ordered a replacement for me free of charge

A very knowledgeable staff member helped me find everything that I needed for surf fishing. He even took the time to make a rig for me and gave me pro tips on equipment. He also gave me tips on how to handle sharks and rays if I catch any and how to find the best place to fish. You do not get this type of service in big stores.

They do a fine job. The vast majority of the 1 ratings on here are from folks who have never set foot in the store, just saw a local news report of an incident where the dealer performed the requirements of his license and had it twisted by a producer known for seeking a racial slant in nearly every story he does.

I found Hopkins to be professional and very knowledgeable. They spent a good deal of time researching my guns and made a very fair offer. Everyone I spoke with was very nice and friendly. I would certainly recommend them.

Great store, knowledgeable staff, good prices, well worth the drive. In all my times at Hopkins never have witnessed discrimination in any way. They are very strict when it comes to gun sales which is a good thing. I have purchased firearms there and it was a bit harder than other places but in my opinion that was a good thing. I have seen other places sell firearms to people that I knew were straw buyers, Hopkins will not do that and yes they will ask alot of questions and yes they will check your ID and if you are with someone that they believe should not own a firearm they probably wont sell to you which is the right thing to do.

2.2 STARS is clearly an attempt to EXTORT good ratings for Hopkins Gun and Tackle . I have made dozens of transfers and misc. purchases from them, and have NEVER witnessed any rude behavior, racism, behavior from any employee in there towards any customer . I read most of the of reviews and see what is happening here . One customer videos a situation where that Customer actually had some shady background check and said that he was buying for someone else. Thats a clear FAIL when purchasing a firearm. No FFL can complete a transfer after that is indicated. Great Staff, friendly, and helpful, loads of knowledge here .

Darius, the salesman who helped me the entire time was excellent, having vast knowledge of his products. The entire staff was friendly and great to deal with, also the manager/owner Joe was extremely kind and made me feel at home, will definitely be going back from now on.Thank you to the entire staff but especially, Darius for making me feel comfortable and being extremely professional/helpful. Came in and the so called “owner” wouldn’t sell my a gun because I have a darker skin tone that everyone there. I have a perfect record and he almost called the cops on me! Would never do business here again.

Awesome place good selection of baits for a bass fisherman or a saltwater fisherman its also the only place in Mechanicsville where you can buy decent ammo during hunting season. Dont believe the bad reviews those are a bunch of people from out of state giving a small business a bad review for following federal law on straw purchases.

Very nice, family-run business with strong customer focus and very good inventory.I like going there as they are attentive and open to answering every question, even though they may have heard the same question 10 times already that day.Good prices too and affordable FFL services.Will continue to go there for years to come.

Horrible service with absolutely outrageous prices for small items. If you walk in here, please expect a 20% price hike compared to other tackle shops. Moreover, the customer service is lacking. The cashier? Hugely disinterested with no motivation to help or make sales. Please dont come here, your business would be much more appreciated at another tackle shop.

Fantastic place to shop with a great selection. I bought a Savage 338 LM and a Rem 700 300 WM. Their used inventory is online which makes looking for what I want even easier.

I needed 6 guns I was paying for but my family members Im giving them too has to pit it in their name to be legal and will pick them up from the shop like they are buying it except Im paying for everything in advance and they all will pass background checking they are gun owners now, this place is right down the street and now I have to find another gun shop, yes I could buy them online but I support local business they have to eat too so this really hurts I have to find another gun shop

Awesome store! Was looking for a Winchester SX4 in bottomland camo all over the Richmond area. Everyone was sold out. Well, Joe Hopkins called Winchester directly and ordered what I wanted right on the spot and said it would be there in about a week for me to pick up. No other stores that I went to offered to do that. THAT is customer service!

Most of the negative reviews are fake. They are friendly and courteous, the prices are not out of line with other shops, cheaper than some of the bigger well known shops.

I visited the store on Thursday, the store wasnt very busy yet, I was not approached by a store rep and asked if they could assist. I also was given some rude looks by a particular sales person. I felt as if I had did something wrong. Very strange. I had visited the store on a handful of other occasions and made purchases, and had no problems then. Perhaps they were having a bad day.

Just saw a video of an African American gentleman who was a regular customer at this location get refused service by the owner for absolutely no reason. The owner of this store is a racist. Think about that before you decide to do business here.

I decided to use this store for a ffl transfer for an internet purchase. I called them up, they took some info and contacted the seller. When my firearms came in they called me within half an hour to let me know I could pick them up. It was a great experience.
