I will NEVER go to an Ace Hardware again. It gives the impression of a large store, but they are independently owned and operated - each one has their own return policy and procedures, varies from store to store.And their help, was not so helpful when reading the product description on the price label and the actual product - there is a HUGE difference between waterproof and water resistant.

What a terrible place and after reading some of these other reviews it looks like they lose customers daily it will not take long before they dont have enough business. Save yourself the trouble and just go to home depot or lowes true value hardware is even better than this place. Terrible experience will never come back.

Without you Greg, Ace closes down. Ive been there hundreds of times and literally only once did they not have what I needed. Theyve never recommend something that was totally wrong for a project. Its always been right on the $. You cant get service like that anymore. You dont feel overwhelmed when youre looking for something specific. They dont pester you. If you cant decide what you want and just want to look around, they leave you to it. But if you need help someone will be close by to give you that wonderful old school service. I dont know about everyone else but I will definitely pay the extra dollar for an item instead of going to Home Depot.Besides you would spend that extra buck in gas driving all the way there. If youre reading this then you know that Ace is just around the corner in the neighborhood. If I could give them 6 stars I would. I build custom desktop computers. This place offers exceptional customer service and always has what youre looking for in ample supply. This store is clean inside as well outside. This place is easily seen on the main road and offers wheelchair parking and offers great discount shopping deals as well. What a horrible experience with the owner of Ace Hardware in mentor Ohio. I will not shop there again or at any Ace Hardware. The way we here treated was with total disrespect. I was going to purchase a targer grill 575. Well after waiting 15 min for someone to finally get service (I think 1 customer in the store) they come back to me and tell me that do not have the bronze in stock. I told him that’s ok I’ll order it off Amazon. His mood changes and tells me they don’t sell them on Amazon. Arguing with me about it. Coming off to me as I’m lying so I had to show him. His moods get worse. I go to walk out. He follows me out the store. I felt like my safety at risk. He Asks me if I woke up on the wrong side of the bed and made more smart comments. This is the owner mind you. Definitely not a good representation of your brand. Total disrespect. I’ll have 6 people ask if I need help in the nut/bolt isle but 0 help once I’m buying a high price item. It just amazes me how the owner of business can be that disrespectful to his customers. I’ve encountered this guy a few times and never had a pleasant experience.

Terrible service also only 30 days on returns every where else is 90 days and some places 6 months . This ace will not even offer store credit for item purchased past 30 days. Just lost a customer over a simple $30 exchange for something else. This contractor will no longer be shopping here.Determine policies all you want. I was going there to help out this smaller buisness I was paying more to go to your store to help out. Not anymore when I tried to return/exchange an unopened, unused,undamaged product that was around $30 that was just over the 30 day return thats not stated on receipt and denied. I will take my buisness to lowes or home depot where their are 90 day returns and6 MONTH return policy when using their credit card. I will also advise all my clients never to shop at your store so this wont happen again. I hope you can survive off your nut and bolt sales from Joe trying to fix his mower while you push all bigger and contractor sales away. Youre losing big time by not allowing at least an exchange because you just lost another big customer. I purchased a $5 item from this store 2 days ago. The item even said Ace hardware on it. All I needed to do is exchange it, I needed a different size and they told me no because I didn’t have a receipt. It’s a $5 item?? I’m a contractor and buy things from them all of the time.. Why act like it’s a million dollar item, it’s $5..to loose my business over a $5 item. Their loss.

Terrible customer service, the assistant manager (about 60-70 years old) was very rude to me and I dont want to bring this to a race issue, but being forgein I felt very descriminated against, I kept getting looked at. I will not shop here again.

Whenever I have needed something from the hardware store I have come to this location over the past 3 years. They have always been able to help me even if they didnt have the part/item I was looking for in stock. There is always someone to greet me when I walk in the door and help me find exactly what I am looking for. This is a great place for an experienced handymen or for the clueless looking for assistance in a DIY project.

Great customer service! But takes them 3 days to restock a delivery. Waited an hour one day at 1pm called back at 5:30 still wasn’t restocked. Came back the next day and still wasn’t restocked. I love coming here but I had to go to big business to get what I needed. I would rather help local.

Greg Burger of the Ace Hardware in Mentor Ohio loaded an order of mulch into my parents car, and then called them later and accused them of stealing because HE gave them the wrong mulch. Right after they said they’d bring it back and grab the right size of mulch, he called them “theives” and said he was calling the police. Greg Burger will not be getting my family’s business anymore, neither will any other Ace Hardware if this is who they hire to run their stores. You just lost loyal customers of the last 20-some years. The sweetest people alive, my parents are, and this man disrespected them for a mistake HE made.

A little bit of everything with helpful employees

I tried to return a product that cost $100 that I had bought on sale, I now suspect they knew this product was subpar and thats why they marked it down. When I tried to return it, with receipt, I was basically accused of lying about it not working properly and told I would not be issued a refund. I had never been treated with such disdain by a manager of a store before! I left fuming and once home tried this product out again to see what he was saying was fine about it. Upon seconds of being plugged in it did work fine but after a few minutes they began to not work again. He took two seconds and judged me to be a liar, I do not like being accused of lying I take that VERY seriously! But if he would have taken a minute more he would have seen I was telling the truth. Too little too late, they have lost a customer for life. I will not step foot in that store in fear of running into that man that accused me of lying. I will go out of my way to the other side of town where I know I will be treated with respect and able to return a product I am not 100% happy with. Its a shame because I would very much prefer to support a small business, but this was unacceptable!

Simply put, their customer service is terrible! Their attitude stinks and they have no clue as to what good customer service is. (I am retired from retail 40 years) My neighbor REFUSES to go there, my wife REFUSES to go in the store because of how she was treated several years ago by the manager. I kept going back because I like to cater to the small local retailer. Guess what, you just lost another customer Ace Hardware Mentor on the Lake!

This Ace Hardware location is close to where I live and has always been very convenient for quick trips or if I only need a few things. On this visit I needed extension cords and timers for Christmas lights. The staff showed me several options and I was able to find exactly what I needed quickly. I would definitely recommend this location if you need to get in and out and back to your project.

Rude staff, no stock, save yourself some time and just got to HomeDepot or Lowes. They will sell you a mask but wont let you buy one with out a mask? I guess when a cashier gets a tiny bit of authority HE will use it to deny you service or sell you a $15 mask (but won’t sell it to you without a mask mind you). No wonder theyre going out of business. Don’t waste your time and spend your money somewhere else.

This place is awesome...until you need to return something. Recently our entry door handle broke and we purchased a replacement from this store. Within 1-2 weeks, the new product broke. When we attempted to return/replace it today we were refused because we did not have the original packaging. The store WAS able to pull up the receipt as proof of purchase AND AGREED their product was broken/defective, but because we didn’t save the plastic and cardboard packaging (does anyone on Earth do that with the anticipation their brand new door handle will break?!?), they refused to exchange or refund the item. Very disappointing lack of customer service. They do not stand behind the products they sell.

First time shopper here. Decided to stop in after Lowes did not have what I needed, nor did they care to offer advice.This store was amazing; well stocked! They gentleman who assisted knew exactly what I needed. The cashier was super friendly. She signed me up for rewards, and gave me a sale ad! Good thing because we will be back!!!Bonus... Had what I needed when I needed it good location

If you love being accosted, visit this Ace. I love the convenience of not having to go to big box stores but I have to ask... why does THIS Ace location force me to be a ninja every time I go in? Unless I sneak in, grab what I need and run to the checkout, I am constantly accosted by people asking if I need help. First, I completely gutted and remodeled my first house at 23 so I rarely need help. Second, if I need help, I will ask. I went in there yesterday for some basic bolts, washers, and nuts... I was approached 6 times in 4 minutes. I am to the point where I will drive an extra 10 minutes and get the same stuff at Home Depot for cheaper without being harassed.

After a great amount of my day spent looking for a certain size o ring, which my fruits were spoiled at other sizable big box stores in the area, and other plumbing supply places. I was warmly greeted on the phone with the exact size needed. I love finding a wholesome local business which knows what is in every corner in thier store. Just bring a dog treat for Daisy..

In the past we have enjoyed supporting small mom and pop businesses. Burger Ace Hardware (Rt. 306 & Lakeshore, Mentor on the Lake) being one of them. Sadly, my support of this small business will draw to a close.Late last May we purchased a Craftsman Electric Power Washer. After just a few hours of service it died. Having my receipt in hand - back to the store I went.Explaining to the store clerk my situation and the immediacy of the work needed to be done - I needed the item changed out, refunded or a credit issued to a more expensive gas-powered unit. None of these options were acceptable to the store owner. The store clerk’s sole only response was the unit would have to be sent out for repair. Given the situation I was in, that answer was unacceptable.A rather expensive tool should last at least a year and not fail after a few hours of use.Caring for my home and rental, we spend an average of about $2,000.00 a year at that store - since moving to Mentor ten years ago.I cannot recommend buying anything of value from this establishment. It appears they do not have the resources on sight to support or service the equipment they sell.This sad, for the few dollars they might have lost helping a customer in need, they have forgone many more thousands of dollars in sales out into the future.Typical short-sighted thinking that plaques a lot of businesses.Off to Sam’s I went to buy a new power-washer.

Im sort of ashamed to admit that I am more of a big box shopper. Well, that or Amazon. I happened to stumble on a deal for a Weber Genesis II grill online and the deal was at Ace Hardware. I found the grill I wanted and immediately started looking to see if I could find it at Lowes (I know, I know, Im sorry). Well, I come to find out that the model I had settled on, was available only at Ace. So reluctantly, I figured Id head there and see what they have and I happened to meet Greg the owner and he couldnt have been more friendly and accommodating. He answered all my questions and made some great suggestions. I can tell this man has poured his life into his business and it shows. I have another project that I am working on that I planned on going to...that other place this weekend and finish the shopping up, but there was no way, I could leave there without buying absolutely everything I needed from Greg and his team. Someone friendly is ALWAYS available to help - and they have great expertise to share! Weve shopped there for many years and recommend it to everyone highly. (Dont recommend the Ace brand general mix birdseed, though - my backyard visitors dont like it, in part because too much red millet and corn. :) )

Over the years I have always found Burgers Ace Hardware well stocked, friendly knowledgeable staff, and exactly what you want in a hardware store but today I really found out how thankful I truly am we have them. In the middle of this COVID-19 pandemic my kitchen faucet fell apart, Im old now, health and mobility challenged and in a bit of a panic called Burgers. They were open and so helpful, had everything I needed, and took such good care of me. I truly cant say enough good about this place. Thank you, Thank you Greg and everyone at Burgers Hardware for all your help. Way better than any other Hardware store.

I’ve always loved this place. However, spent close to $400 on a mower today. Got it home, put some oil in it and then realized the pull start was frozen. Refused to return the obviously BROKEN mower. Never even use. Will never return and never send anyone there again!

I ordered a smoker. They had it delivered to the site from their warehouse the next day. They called right away knowing that I was hoping to have it for the weekend. When I picked it up they were kind, courteous, and went out of their way to give me advice on the smoker. Everytime I go in this store everyone is so helpful.

Dont underestimate this business for its size! Burgers is stocked wall-to-wall with anything and everything you need -and more- for your home and garden. Sometimes I love to just cruise up & down the aisles. If Im short on time, I just ask. Every employee including those running the cash register knows where things are. Carol points me toward an aisle, I grab a floor person along the way, they are so knowledgeable and well-trained I am out of there in minutes. I dont think theres enough space on this forum to go into how wonderful the staff is! Everyone so friendly, warm helpful, it Truly is your neighborhood store- the Place with the Helpful Hardware Man - Women AND Men. Get to know them, you wont want to go anywhere else!

The fact that your own stores wont even price match your online price is truly disheartening in this economy. The fact I would need to order this product while Im standing in the store through the website, wait for the manager to process the order, and then get my product even though I am standing at the counter with the product is absolutely incredibly inefficient as well as just plain discouraging. The manager was less then helpful, telling me in America you have choices not to shop here. Is this the way a customer should be treated? Your competing against the big box stores and this is how you treat customers? From now on, I will not be shopping at your store and I will stick with the big box stores. Sad, trying to support a locally owned store and your treated this way.

Terrible customer service. I went here on Friday evening to buy 50 feet of wire netting to trench the base of my shed. No one could tell me the price of the items I was hoping to buy because the products and the shelves weren’t labeled. Two different sales reps tried to locate a price without success. Finally, Manager Gregg told me the price and that I could come back with my coupon one time since I had forgotten it at home.Went back today, Monday, with my coupon and customer service representative Carol took issue with me despite my receipt and product paperwork in hand. Arriving at 7PM, she actually asked me “you can’t come during the day?”. Really? How’s that for welcome to our store?! No, I work, and the store hours are until 8 PM on Mondays.I was here after work and yet I’m somehow made to feel I’m not an appropriate customer, showing up an hour before closing. Carol then proceeded to mess with her box cutter for ten minutes cutting my coupon out instead of expediently moving the line. She didn’t know for to use the cash register and after fiddling with it for many minutes, a much kinder manager (not Gregg) overrode her transaction.Amazon takes my orders at any time of day and delivers them to my door without the irritated attitude and incompetence. I’d be happy to support a business that I could literally walk to (higher prices and all) if I wasn’t rudely questioned in doing so.I’ll take my not-on-your-timeline money elsewhere.

I rarely rate companies online but I am making an exception for Burgers Ace Hardware. I always use this store as my first choice before I use a big box store. Mr. Burger and his staff are always friendly and helpful and go the extra mile in helping me and giving me advice. I have recommended many people to this store with no reservations and in turn they have referred others to this store.

I really dont like how they try and force you to sign up for the rewards card when you say you dont have one. They insist on signing you up. No, I dont want that card nor do I want things coming to me in the mail. Change that policy, its very annoying to deal with every time. Also not a fan of getting bombarded with questions when you walk through the door, just let me shop and look for what Im looking for, if I cant find it, Ill ask.

Great place very nice and helpful

Ace is an amazing hardware store that is close to home. They have great sales and the service is that of a small mom and pop store. When you are doing a project they always seem to have what you need. Not once have I been there where there was not an employee asking me at the door what I need help with. Not like other stores where you need to pretty much steal something to get an associates attention.

This was my go to hardware store as they are close. Yesterday I went in to grab some leaf bags and work gloves. I noticed the gloves rang up a different price and mentioned it to the cashier. We went back to the shelf and confirmed the price rung up was wrong. She said she would have to get an approval from Gerry? (not sure of the name). When she came back, she said he told her the price went up and that he wouldnt approve changing the price to what the shelf was marked. Pretty ridiculous to not honor price marked. Its a shame as Ive given plenty of business to this store including buying a lawnmower and a generator here. No longer. Oh, and...if you look at the reviews, it appears he has reviewed and given his store 5 stars. Update: his review has disappeared.

I cannot stand this place! When it was across lakeshore it felt like the homey hardware stores of yore. Everyone was nice, helpful and seemed to know who you were if only by face.Move foward to the south side of Lakeshore. It is now as bad as a big box store. Too many workers..all seemingly without humor or other personality. They are knowledgeable enough..but not as much as the other store. And the front end..I would never hire a single of the folks I have dealt with at the register to be the face of my businessAll you have to do is act friendly, even if you are not. I always feel like they think I am unintelligent in that store. Try somewhere else if you expect to be helped by nice and friendly staff.

I always enjoy my trips to Burger Hardware. I have been shopping there ever since the store was in Euclid in the 90s. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The selection on many products almost rivals that of Home Depot or Lowes, but with the small store atmosphere.Whenever I call the store, I can tell the employee I am speaking to has a big smile on their face!

I love this little hardware store, the workers are very attentive and help you immediately when you walk in if they are not busy. The people that write bad reviews about this place are just miserable in their own skin, you dont find too many other hardwares as well run as this one.

Terrible Experience ... was belittled by the store owner/manager and made to feel like a back-yard hack for trying to check the spark plug on a brand new Stihl chainsaw that would not start. Was handed a bill for $30 after being told there would be no charge. Manager/Owner insisted that I somehow caused the problem when I removed the plug. If the saw would have started there would be no reason to even remove the plug.When I told him he could keep the saw and that I would be bringing the receipt for a refund he told me I could take that up with Stihl. Now that is great customer service for you. Will never shop at this ACE ever again.Will also tell all of my clients to avoid this store as well. Sent email to corporate and am awaiting a response.

I went there 15 minutes before closing. I needed an o ring. The employee that helped me was patient and looked at least half the o rings trying to find the one I needed. I was more worried about closing time than he was. This would be above and beyond anywhere else but I think it is their standard.
