Amazing location right on the trail, right on the river with beautiful views of the mountain. The store has a relatively large selection. Theres great swimming, canoeing, fishing and hiking. I saw the biggest moose of my life there. Youll see many thru-hikers and rafters. I love it up there!
Awesome campground right on the water, offering free breakfast, inner tube & kayak rentals, shuttles, and located directly on various hiking trails including the Appalachian! The camp store has a great re-supply to offer, & also has alcohol. Big thumbs up!
Great little campground for 20 years until about 7 years ago when a new owner bought the original owners out. New owner put their 18 year old son in charge. The kid wasnt very friendly to say the least...he basically drove all the seasonal campers out. Too bad..was a wonderful place for many years.
THIS IS NOT ABOL CAMPGROUND INSIDE BAXTER!I hardly ever leave bad reviews but I’ve done a lot of camping and this is by far the worst campground I’ve ever booked. I’d say stayed in but it was so bad that I abandoned the site and luckily was able to get a site inside Baxter State Park. For $65 a night they tried to give me a site that was 4’x4’ in a circle of other tiny sites that had legitimately 0 privacy. Essentially if you tried to shove a bunch of campsites in your grassy backyard. The staff was super rude and unhelpful and in general the place is falling apart. Even the picnic table at the site was broken.Don’t waste your money here. Get a beautiful site actually in Baxter State Park. Worst $120 I’ve ever spent.
Be sure to stop & double check your supplies in Millinocket before going to or beyond the Abol bridge. Prices go through the roof once you leave town. Even 25 minutes away. Good fishing everywhere from Abol & above.
Fully stocked camp store with everything you may have forgotten. The restaurant menu has a pretty solid variety with options for great appetizers, light meals like soup and salads, a wide variety of sandwiches, and burgers, including veggie burgers! Everything we tried was delicious and very well done! Staff was friendly and attentive and the restaurant itself was warm and welcoming. Expect to pay a bit more than average, but well worth it for the quality and location. Highly recommend ducking outside for a Giffords ice cream for dessert:)
I just wanted to thank the kind man with a golf cart with that adorable little black dog for replacing the tire on my Jeep Wrangler last July when Golden Road took a beating to it. Luckily it happened right near this campground, or else it would have been a worse situation. Never caught a name, but he made my stressful afternoon much better. So, if he happens to read this. Thank you! I was able to continue my adventure and summit Katahdin the next day thanks to your help.
Great place to get off the grid. Awesome view of mt katahdin. Salmon fishing right off camp site.
This is the first cold fresh food a Appalachian Trail Hiker sees after 100 miles. They are ready for just such people with everything you need, at a small premium due to its very remote location. They also have camping, a hostel like building and even a restaurant. They have basic backcountry gear as well. Will visit again.
Ive been hiking on the Appalachian Trail since 2013. Each time that Im trekking through the northern section I always stop by the Abol Bridge Campground & Store. One year I stayed at the Lean Tos across the street, another year I dined at the restaurant, and styed at the campgrounds. This year I just breezed right on through, only stopping long enough to fuel up with some snacks and two beers! They have a wonderful resupply store. Thanks!
This is the place for you if you like:-Staff stealing your property and the cash you gave them to mail it.-Manager insulting you and stating that none of his employees would want your stinky hiker boxes-Owners ignoring multiple phone calls about your missing property and never speaking to you-Never a word of explanation or apology when your property and cash magically turns up in the trunk of an employees other car by honest mistake three weeks after you gave it to Abol to priority mail it and only after you have taken two days out of your vacation and driven about 200 miles in a rental car in order to try to get your property back and then (after failing to recover your property or cash) initiate U.S. Postal Service and local Police Department investigations and Law Enforcement is now intervening on your behalf. On the up side, cant say enough about the helpfulness of both the Millinocket and Monson Postmasters and staff and the Millinocket police as we got to meet some great public servants in the process and were able to recover our property despite Abols efforts to the contrary. All things told, they serve a tasty burger and very cold beer which was very welcome after days of hiking but it wasnt worth the hundreds of dollars it cost me to compel them to return our property.
Cabins have comfortable bunks. Free breakfast starts at 7am. Hot showers.
Took my family this summer had a great time
Closed for winter but should be opening soon. Still beautiful to visit.
A beautiful view of Mount Katahdin from here. Very peaceful.
Really expensive camping but the free breakfast is worth it.
