Ive purchased off the rack hats in years past, but have only recently taken the leap into bespoke hats. This shop is an otherworldly experience & they have an impeccable selection in a wide variety of different price brackets.The hat that this shop turned out is literally one of the most beautiful objects I own & I get at minimum two complements a day on it.A Milwaukee gem. Anyone who says otherwise is either stupid or a complete Karen.

Great shop! Old world craftsmanship in a hip and modern store. Lots of vintage equipment to custom make mens or womens hats, plus plenty of pre-made.

John and Kate are awesome people and their skills are unbelievable. The shop is an EyeSpy book come to life. I just picked up my custom hat, a recreation of one of my Grandfathers, of course it was a perfect fit and was comfortable all day.

This place is owned by an amazing couple who strive to bring nostalgia and class into current trends. A welcoming smile and a cuddly dog named Betty are mainstays, with hats of every style you could want. And they can make you anything you can vaguely remember from that one movie you really loved but always wanted. I would give more stars but Im limited to 5. Go for yourself and fall in love with the owners, as I did, and join the club of friendly yet fashionable Rooster-ites.

I ordered some masks and gift cards from the fantastic people at the Brass Rooster Hat Company. I am beyond happy with the masks they produced! The double cloth masks are amazing. They have lots of different fabric patterns available too. Thank you for your dedication and hard work!

John and Kate make shopping with them in person or on line such an intimate experience. The excitement they have towards their craft is infectious, and it shows in everything they create. Today was the first time I crossed the threshold of an authentic milliners place of business. Its not so common these days that one feels truly valued as a retail customer, but thats exactly what happened as I stepped into the Brass Rooster. John and his team spent as much time as I needed helping me learn what direction to proceed in considering my purchase. I very much enjoyed my walk into the past, nearly as much as my walk out the door wearing my brand new hat.

Fantastic service, brilliantly creative and artistic owners. Love how they’ve pivoted to making masks to protect our community. Cannot recommend them highly enough.

This place is an absolute delight, a hat lovers paradise indeed. On my first visit here, I brought my bowler hat to be adjusted and of course to check the place out. I love wearing fine hats, and have more than a few, so The Brass Rooster is like a candy store for me. The folks here are friendly, and ready to help with whatever your hat needs are, and they really know what theyre doing as well.They have a fantastic selection of mens and ladies hats, in fact my wife bought a lovely hat while we were there, and I left with a great fitting bowler!I could go on, but lets just say, this place rocks and Im going back!

I love this place. I buy a new hat every spring and this is where I go. The selection is great and the staff are amazing. They are always really helpful and will help you find the perfect hat. They wont lead you wrong just to make a sale. If the hat doesnt work on you theyll let you know and help you find your right style. The atmosphere of the shop is great as well. You feel like your walking back in time a bit. My kiddos love going there just to look around and try on hats too! They get a real kick when the owner does some magic for them.

Really friendly folks, and awesome selection of hats! You can tell the owner clearly loves what he does, and fully embraces the kitsch! I stopped by the get a couple hats reshaped and was pleasantly surprised at the prices and turnaround. Will definitely revisit when I need a new hat!

If I could give them six stars I would! Matt was incredibly friendly and patient! Im pretty sure my boyfriend tried on every hat in the store, and never once did Matt seem impatient or rushed. He educated us on the different materials from which hats are made, the different manufacturers, and styles. They make custom hats in house, so we got to learn about that too, which was awesome! Even though they didnt have exactly what we wanted, it was still a top-notch shopping experience, and you can tell that Matt is truly passionate about what he does, and loves hats! Overall, a phenomenal shop with some of the best customer service Ive ever received!

If you need a hat this is the place to go. You can buy a pre-made hat. Or you can have one made to suit your needs!! From a 65 dollar hat to over a one thousand dollar hat. And anything in between. You can also have old hats repaired. Or add new ribbons,feathers or other accessories to your hat. The popular styles of hats will sell out quickly during certain times of the year. Thus the 4 stars.

John and Kate are two of the most talented and kindest people you will ever meet. Any hat at any price is well worth it coming from them! I took a private, custom hat-making lesson with them. It was a wonderful experience I will remember forever! My husband purchased and amazing, light gray fedora from them. My brother was fitted for and custom ordered the Heisenberg hat - how fun! We will all continue to support their awesome business.

Friendly, knowledgeable and a step back in time, to when quality was the norm and people made things by hand and with pride. I had a custom vintage made there recently. 50 year old felt hat body and ribbon. Its basically a one of a kind and very well executed. So well done that I survived a trip to another more famous shop without feeling a need to buy anything. When you have a custom made lid on your head, its much easier to resist impulse buys.

I first learned of The Brass Rooster via a Holiday news segment about supporting local small businesses. I thought the owners of the shop were artists of hats and added it to my list of must do adventures. I dont live in the neighborhood, or anywhere nearby, so it took me about 2 years before I said, Hey, Im going!. I was looking for a unique gift but certain I was going to leave with something for myself. And I was right! Upon walking in the door your eyes are bombarded by shapes and colors that are irresistible. On the floor was big lazy dog who only picked up her head long enough to acknowledge youve come through the door. Dont be afraid, shes very friendly and really likes attention. After giving her a quick greeting, I immediately had to look at, and try on, all the different styles. On me, some were just entertaining while others were complimentary to my personal style. The ladies who were working were both helpful and knowledgeable about their craft, giving brutally honest opinions about what fit your head, colors that flattered your skin and the budget youre working with. This is a boutique and the quality of the apparel made that obvious! After purchasing a couple of hats and a gift certificate my mission was accomplished. Locating the Brass Rooster can be a little tricky. There is nothing very obvious... no big neon sign or flashy markings that distinguish it from the surround establishments. This is part of the charm because theyve kept the buildings structural integrity, inside and out. So bring a friend to watch for the addresses and signage. Its an up and coming neighborhood surrounded mainly by residential structures so parking is on the street. I was there on an off-day so it wasnt too difficult to locate a space nearby. But watch the parking signs to ensure youre not in a tow-away zone! Its easy to see how parking spaces are at a premium, certain times and certain days. Well worth the effort, however, and Ill be back many times in the future.

Every city has very rare gems and this store is one of Milwaukees! With hats for women and men, it is a destination for me when Im looking to shop for mens hats and mens specialty items, or when I have friends come in from out of town to show off the quality custom shops that are available in this city. I have recommended it to everyone that I know that likes hats; from custom made wedding head wear, to custom made mens hats, to lower price hats that are just for fun. It is worth checking out even if you dont like hats, its so cool to see this perfectly modern store with vintage and classic manufacturing that you can see while you visit. -The owners are amazing as well, ask to say hi if they are around, which they usually are.

This place is a complete and total rip off with their repair and cleaning services. I was told how they could clean and fix two hats for me. Replace the sweat band in a fedora and fix a seam in a leather hat missing a stitch and would never know it was there. I handed them the hats and paid them $79 and change. I know someone who works there who highly recommended them and their master hat guru Mike McLaughlin who lied to me about fixing them and took my cash. The friend who works there got the hats back to me almost 6 months later because I live a ways away. I tried calling their shop repeatedly and no one answers the phone. I was informed that the miracle hat man couldnt fix them. They cleaned the supposedly non-repairable fedora and did a half-assed cleaning job on the other. Why? Why clean a hat you cant fix? There was no refund, no call from them to explain why no repair and no refund. If they read this and really care, they can have Maddie contact me. I was with her parents when I came in. Im still hopping mad about being screwed by these people. Well see if they have any integrity and at least contact and refund the money. I couldnt give it zero stars or I would have. I should also add that Im a hat collector. Worst place Ive ever gone to for repair service.

Seriously cool shop! They carry lots of fine quality gentlemens hats and I believe they make custom hats too. Very friendly staff, not pushy at all and make sure you get what you want and not just what theyre pushing.

I could not have been happier with the service and attention to detail when I stopped in this weekend. My grandpa had a huge hat collection when I was a child, and as the years went on he only had 2 hats. His 1st Infantry Division hat from his days in World War II and his Stetson cowboy hat. The Brass Rooster was able to resize the ole Stetson to fit my head. Their service gives me the dream of many years of use and the ultimate dream of passing it to my sons or one day grandkids. Just stopped in for the first time after lusting after the bespoke hats since this place opened. Exceeded my expectations.I had heard that the customer service was out of control, but cmon. My two year old daughter plopped a kids derby on her head (after her dad just got done telling her not to snatch any hats with out asking), and they said she could keep it! They even took her over to the Hen House womens side and put a pink feather in the band. Faith in humanity restored.Great selection of hats for most price points. If you have a small head like me, and dont want to wear a snapback everywhere, then this is the place to go. Kellen was able to stretch the off-the-rack model I purchased to fit perfect. Will definitely be coming back and letting everyone I know about this -- the best hat shop in Milwaukee.

Bought another Hat today at the Brass Rooster. I love going into that place!.. The owners are Awesome and make you feel right at home....as their little dog greets you at the door. The cooool Bohemian vibe and Ol Blues playin on vinyl sets the atmosphere of a trip back in time to 1920s Bay View. These folks are Habbadashers, styling and making their own hats, along with an awesome collection of any type of hat you may be looking for. John may have a ghost story or two since the building is circa 1900s. Great people,... great hats! Id take a picture of me and my new hat,... but I dont have my makeup on... Hahaha!!! It was facinating to observe the gentheman who designs hats. The atmosphere of the store was like a step back in time. He used tools of the trade that have been used for hundreds of years, like a shop in Williamsburg,VA. I know of no plce like this in the Midwest!I know if I have any needs for hats, I will go to the Brass Rooster. His wife designs hats for women. Together they can meet any customers needs.I think this business should be on the top of anyones bucket list...wheather they are looking for a hat or simply are interested in a unique shopping experience.

I chose a hat for $14 dollars, (tag was marked) and the 40 yr. Old guy said it was mismarked, for you its $24, my 6 yr. Old marked it wrong. Ill never go there again!
