Great selection of leftist books and periodicals, including some used books. Expect to find friendly and helpful people hanging out, if youre looking for conversation. They carry the classics of theory as well as some newer fiction and analysis. Highly recommended.

Many books with great topics that are of interest to me. The man that runs the store is always in the know on whats in stock and will be and is able to match customers with their interests. Definitely my favorite bookstore in the twin cities.

Many past reviews indicate that Mayday Books specializes in “progressive literature.” As it turns out, this is quite misleading. There is more than one way to define progressivism beyond lopsided interpretations associated with the far & radical left. If you identify as a revolutionary anarcho-syndicalist, Marxist-Leninist, or hardcore democratic socialist, this is the establishment for you. For example, during my last visit, the local Minneapolis chapter of the CPUSA (American Communist Party) was having a lowkey conference there.Apparently, Mayday is strictly a cash operation & has no structural management; perhaps that part of the experience has changed since? After all, you can’t preach revolution if you aren’t following through as a “collectively administrated business association.” I am left wondering, is Mayday part of some collaborative alliance with other likeminded establishments in the area, particularly Hard Times Cafe? Most available literature ranges from philosophy to political economy. You won’t find any genres specializing in the hard or theoretical sciences such as quantum mechanics or comparative epistemology; if you do, it will most likely have a radical left twist, that is unless if you consider dialectical materialism objectively scientific. Regardless, any visit to Mayday will prove interesting, no matter where you stand on the issues.

Such a large selection of progressive books. A nice selection of Marx as well as contemporary socialist thinkers. It also is a wonderful resource for getting involved in activism and such. Please dont buy books by Marx on Amazon. Come here and help support their efforts through buying from them.

Mayday Books is a pretty gnarly book store. I found lots of books and magazines there that I probably would not find anywhere else, and it is all interesting stuff. Weather you are interested in the labor movement, feminism, or the environment, Mayday has it all. basically any radical movement from the past hundred or so years is covered in their collection. I very much appreciate that this bookstore exists, and will be returning.

Mayday Books is THE left-wing bookstore for hundreds of miles in every direction. Because they operate at no profit, they sell new releases at 15 to 20% the cover price, and they sell books that no other bookstore would carry. If you believe in anything truly left-of-center, including social democracy, democratic socialism, traditional Marxism-Leninism or non-Leninist Marxism, anarchosyndicalism, and ecosocialism OR you are just curious about leftist politics, you should absolutely stop in and look around. Mayday Books is also a hub of progressive and leftist organizing, with groups regularly meeting up there to talk politics. Every time I stop in, there is always something new I want to read.
