The Moscow Museum of Modern Art is a museum of modern and contemporary art located in Moscow, Russia. It was opened to public in December 1999. The project of the Museum was initiated and executed by Zurab Tsereteli, president of the Russian Academy of Arts. In 2018, The Vadim Sidur Museum and Museum-Studio of Dmitry Nalbandyan merged into the Moscow Museum of Modern Arts. The core of the Museums assemblage was constituted from the private collection of Zurab Tsereteli, its founder and director. Artworks of many renowned international artists are exhibited in the Museums permanent collection halls like Marcus Jansen. The highlights include objects and sculpture by Armand, the “Sun Disk” by the famous Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, the installation “CIS Ant Farm” by the Japanese conceptualist Yukinori Yanagi, as well as other works of contemporary art based on contemporary technologies. The masters of European and American art, such as Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró and Rufino Tamayo, are represented by their lithographs. A special emphasis has been given to the collection of Russian avant-garde art. The museum spotlights works of world-famous artists of the turn of the 20th century: Kazimir Malevich, Alexandra Exter, Natalia Goncharova, Robert Falk, Ivan Pouni, Vladimir Baranov-Rossine and David Burlyuk (30 pieces). Visitors can also become acquainted with two compositions by Kandinsky’s friend Vladimir Izdebski, who is known for his “Salons de Paris” series after the revolution of 1917, and also a unique collection by the famous Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani. The Museum displays the interesting exposition dedicated to the art of non-conformists of the 1950–70s, whose creative activity was in the opposition to the Soviet ideology. Among them are V. Nemukhin, E. Steinberg, V. Komar, A. Melamid, A. Ney, O. Rabin, A. Zverev, D. Krasnopevtsev, and more. Contemporaries are represented by Boris Orlov, Dmitry Prigov, Francisco Infante, Oleg Kulik, A. Brodski, Aidan Salakhov, Lena Hades, Valery Koshlyakov, Igor Novikov and Serguei Shutov. They are mostly focused on forms of the so-called “actual” art. The Moscow Museum of Modern Art contains works of art from the first decades of the 20th century; the exposition is based on contrasts and correlations of artistic trends and events in Russia and abroad, and is also aimed at showing the integrity of the development of world culture, while specifying the role of the Russian art in it. To celebrate its 20th birthday, the institution invited 20 celebrities from all walks of life to curate its anniversary exhibition. The guest curators include Russian football star Fedor Smolov, designer Andrei Artemov, writer Vladimir Sorokin, TV showman and art collector Andrey Malakhov, theatre director Kirill Serebrennikov and even Marusya (Mail.rus voice-controlled personal assistant).
How many models are made by talented people. There are probably a lot of people in Russia with a deep inner peace, if there are such curious and serious exhibits. I liked the pictures of the young artist about modern Moscow and the younger generation. Its more of a prophecy
Tickets are sold online only. Wanted to visit while walking by, was asked to purchase tickets online, tried to do so, but the system was asking full name of each person in my group, d.o.b., which is time consuming and at the end didn’t process . We left .
Its a beautiful Museum in middle of the city. It is very artistic and the gallery has a very rich collection of modern art. #moscow I spent almost a day here and kept of admiring all the arts. During the winter time, this place becomes more attractive and appealing.
When there nobody elae - very wonderful. The Best way to visit - early morning, in other way you will spend time with a lot young crazy People :)
Moscow Museum of Modern Art allows you to see the works of modern Russian artists. There is also a bar near the museum where you can buy drinks and some food. In the museum you can buy souvenirs like in any other museum store.Overall, Id say that you should definitely visit it. There is a lot of interaction and original works of art that you cant find in traditional galleries.Interior looks great and has really modern feeling about it. So you will feel like you are visiting one of the modern galleries in Europe. The price is not very high - about $10. The museum is located in the city center on the Petrovka street. So if you are in that location Id definitely recommend visiting it.
Nice museum. Interesting is also the courtyard with a lot of statues. The atmosphere is quiet and is nice to spend an hour in the art. In the garden there is also a Georgian restaurant and in front of the museum across the street a nice monastery. The meseum is at few meters from strastnoi boulevard and not so far from bolshoi theater.
This little museum highly depends on what kind of exhibition goes. The building is solid and cozy, though I would not call it a big one. I recommend you to watch the exhibition before going in, because there is no (or not much) permanent works that stays here all the time, so everything you see is rather temporarily
You should go here if you love cont. art!
👍
One of the best trendy places in town ♥️♥️♥️
Wonderful experience. Excellent exhibit no wait very fast entry.
Charging full price when most of the museum is under construction doesnt seem quite right. Currently theres only one exhibition available inside. Normally though, when museum is fully functional, I would rate it 4-4,5.
The building seemed like it was an old apartment building converted into a Museum with exhibitions in different apartments along a long hallway. The presentation and quality was amateur and not representative of a major world city. The courtyard had exceptional variety of sculptures and was pleasant to sit under the trees. Go for the courtyard but skip the interior.
Nice
Its a very calming place to be at. Also, if youre a teenager, youll love this place.
Amazing museum one of the place that you should see in Moscow city
It was closed on the Monday I passed by. There were some cool modern art sculptures located outside that gave an indication of its inner splendour. The restaurant next door, Mapt, that I visited at lunch time, was phenomenal!
Nice patio. Curious sculptures. And a comfortable restaurant with reasonable prices. Summer better at the terrace. The cultural programm is kind of irregular and of limited interest.
Good third floor exhibition. Could have stayed far longer ...
Really quite interesting and a lot to see. Although there is some grotesque stuff so no kids.
This is a very stylish place. I can recomend for everybody.
Many of art
The statues are very creative and fantastic.
Great exhibitions of contemporary and modern art

No permanent collection! Checkout the calendar. Something interesting often happens
It is a beatifull place, the yard is full of nice statues. We were in the misuem when there was only one exposition which was quite nice. The videoes were not translated to English it was a pity...Still it was intresting and awakening.Hope next time we will be there we will be able to see the all rooms hopen. The musuem shop was very nice and well wide ranged and intresting for most of the musuem we have seen in Moscow. Highly recommanded- the shop.
Very interesting museum. The guides will be happy to assist you
Many good havings had here! I hear the moaning lisa! I see the scream! I giggle at the Jackson Pollock squiggle! One night Guard tell me Make like tree and leaf! He hit me and I see starry starry night. I say Thank you Guard! I will Van Gogh now! Ha! A splendid occasion!- Piotr Petrovsky
Brilliant museum. A fascinating MOMA.

Personal world of Ceretelli
Great
Nothing special
Its ok
Okay
A very atmospheric museum. I visited the exhibition of the nominees for the Kandinsky Prize and was very impressed. It is not crowded inside, everything is very well organized. There is an elevator to go up to the upper floors. On the ground floor there is a splendid museum shop. I highly recommend visiting!
In a cozy building on Petrovka, the courtyard of which is filled with works by Tsereteli, it is always interesting. One exhibition of contemporary art is replaced by another, invariably attracting the attention of both connoisseurs and simply curious, leaving neither one nor the other indifferent. I would especially like to note the chamber size of the expositions, which allows you to inspect everything and not get tired of impressions. On the ground floor there is a shop with a wide selection of art albums, including in English, books on art theory, biographical publications, where you can also choose interesting posters, postcards, and nice little things as souvenirs. The school at the museum is located in the same building.
In my opinion, this is not a museum, but an ordinary art gallery! Two exhibitions for the museum are very few, there is no variety! Through the Looking Glass of Pavel Leonov and Grositsky. Materiality ”Of course, there is no dispute about tastes, but I did not like the first exhibition at all. We passed all exhibitions in 40 minutes, paying 700 rubles for 2 adults and 150 rubles for a child. I think that the price for the ticket is very overpriced !!! For me it is better to go to Winzavod, where you can get more emotions from exhibitions for free. There is no free parking, the next 380 rubles per hour. The place is strong for everybody.
The museum is bad. The work is secondary, and it has been secondary for a hundred years now. The exposition is not well thought out. The best part is the Tsereteli sculptures in the courtyard. A museum is not worth its own money - no money. Museums of this quality (and often even higher) are free in Europe.
Zurab Konstantinovich creates his masterpieces on a conveyor scale. The number is huge. The quality is low.Come and see the trash warehouse. And huge (ours) money is allocated from the budget for the maintenance of this freak show!United Russia :-)
Современное искусство видимо не для меня, хотя современный туалет выглядит действительно классно. Потраченное время и деньги.
Wonderful exhibit on the grounds in front of the museum entrance. You can view, touch and experience contemporary art completely free of charge. Interesting and unusual. Available with children.
В этом месте можно реально оценить талант мастера! Это как у Булгакова в романе....!
A large number of works of contemporary art by different authors. The expositions are placed thoughtfully, visitors have the opportunity not to interfere with each other when viewing. There is a lift. It is better to buy a ticket online in advance. In front of the building in the courtyard, a large number of sculptures by Z. Tsereteli is a godsend for his admirers and photographers.
Atmospheric, you can feel the influence of intelligence & genetics & language.Informative, bright. I like it.And about Mart - there is a good wine cellar, a chic interior ... but the kitchen is initially ideal, it has become average - the effect of a pandemic (??). But the place is strong, I believe in it.
I recommend to see the beautiful sculptures in the courtyard for free, and not to see the museum exposition. A ticket costs 350 rubles, but paying for it is a whole quest with registration on some website and receiving QR codes by mail. The exhibited works are drawn to the student level. There are three interesting things, but the average level is extremely low. The contrast with the sculptures in the courtyard is especially offensive.
Очень интересный музей и территория перед ним.
Petrovka is one of the main and oldest streets in the center of Moscow. Located in the Central Administrative District of the city on the territory of the Tverskoy District. It runs from Teatralnaya Square (the beginning of the numbering of houses) to Sredny Karetny Lane. The street got its name from the Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery, founded at the end of the XIV century. The name Petrovka has been used since the beginning of the 17th century and has never changed since then, which is considered a rarity for the historic streets of the center of Moscow.
I really like visiting museums, exhibitions 🙂 So on the day of the city I went to the museum of modern art, I visited this museum for the first time and I liked it, there were not many people, it was convenient to move between the halls. Interesting paintings, unusual installations 😁 There is a store where you can buy books, postcards, bags, badges, etc., I bought a postcard, this is a tradition for me
Nice exposition in the public domain, in the courtyard of the museum
ОЧЕНЬ понравилось! Реально КРУТО!
