I had some issues with my motor and Fred was able to get my boat and in and out faster than anticipated. This allowed me to be able to use my boat on a planned vacation. I appreciate the quick turnaround and reasonable pricing.

This place does great work. Wont deny that. Especially with larger jobs. The problem i have is with the customer service. The old guy who answers the phone is the definition of unhelpful. Hes rude and just unkind. In addition, good luck getting a quote on service. He will just tell you what they charge per hour and thats it. Which makes zero sense because how am i supposed to know if i can afford the service? What if i cant afford an 8 hour service job versus a 5? This might be profitable for the business, being able to upcharge customers by leaving them in the dark but this is bad for the customers. All businesses give quotes for service related jobs thats just good business and customer service. This place can get away with this because they have very little competition in the area and they know people will come to them irregardless. Although this place is right down the street from me and does good work, i wont be using them for future service.

I have been dealing with Fred and his team since 2000 when bought my first boat. I have had the pleasure of dealing with some of the most honest and consistent business people ever. They have never not failed to help out and I have had some very unusual problems with my various boats over the years. I also feel the the value of their services and products are in line with the very reasonable charges. Thanks to FVM and I look forward to many years of service.

Over the past 30+ years I have been enjoying the experiences and journeys of boating on the Illinois River and today on beautiful Lake Michigan. Through this entire time I have worked with the great team at FVM Boat Sales and Service. I brought my very first boat, a new boat at that at a boat show from FVM. I purchased my second boat, also a new boat from FVM and recently with the help from FVM I purchased yet another brokerage boat and couldnt have successfully done this without the step by step guidance from FVM.The team at FVM has supported and guided me throughout my boating experiences from much need advice about care and maintenance, to providing fantastic service, financing assistance, insurance recommendations. A true end to end service! There are a lot of boat sales and service organization to chose from but I am very happy that I found the team at FVM. The service and attention to detail has been outstanding and this comes a picky boater. This is truly an awesome family run operation and a team that truly cares and supports its customers needs and interests. Throughout the years we have found FVM and all the staff to be extremely trustworthy and capable of providing reliable service and a great overall friendship - a unique combination in todays business environment. I am most grateful for all the years of service from FVM and look forward to the many years ahead of working with the FVM team.

Wow, just wow. Called these people asking about getting a Canoe Trailer. Would not tell me the size of the trailers they had in stock. They try to sell me on an untitled trailer from Wisconsin. If you know anything about IL laws that is unreal that they would do that. Do not work with shady people like this.

DO NOT TRUST THIS GUY! He sold me a radar head that is not compatible with the display. After having Raymarine and a local Marine Electronics company state that these two units are not meant to be together, Fred refuses to take it back or do anything to remedy the issue. Buyers beware of FVM Boat Sales and Service.Response to them:You are so wrong... I bought it from Fred, who owns FVM Boat Sales and Service (you). We talked on the phone through your business number, I was in your shop and paid FVM for the unit. I am not sure how that doesnt have anything to do with FVM. The problem is that you probably could do this stuff to people before online reviews and get away with it. Now as I see your reviews, I wish I knew better.Good luck with your business... you may need it if this is your reputation.

I brought my 1978 series 207 SRV to Fred to have the Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 1 Outdrive rebuilt using a donor drive I bought for the job. I said to keep another 2000 and he did but when I went back later for some help, he said he didn’t have a mechanic that could work on my boat and he could help me no further. I asked him if he felt the other responsibility to support a customer. He again said he didn’t have a mechanic that worked work on my boat and that was it. Just like that game over, I lose. I got mad, said a few things and stormed out. I regret losing my cool and would’ve appreciated a referral to someone who could fix the boat but Fred didn’t want to bother.I think Fred does good mechanical work but is subject to his emotions, and on a bad day, you don’t want to be there. It’s too bad because he has knowledge and talent and as a former Sea Ray boat dealer, he had to have good service and support.I am a successful business owner selling equipment and service to my customers. If a customer comes to me with a problem with equipment bought elsewhere, I will still help him with service or provide a referral and do anything I can to get them support.

We recently had the privilege of working with Fred Santogrossi while on a trip to Chicago. Mr. Santogrossi was extremely helpful. His service was excellent. He went above and beyond to help us find a solution to our problem. It is a privilege to work with such an honest, hardworking individual.

Great customer service - referred me to local trailer repair and helped with my boat registration, even though Im not a customer. Happy to find any excuse to give them my business in the future.

Listen carefully!!!! DO NOT USE THIS SHOP under any circumstances!!! The mechanic seems like a nice man who Im sure means well, but my boat got all messed up after I hired this shop to do a simple outdrive service and an impeller/sea pump change. The owner, named FRED may be the biggest jerk you will ever deal with also which adds insult to injury. I decided to give this shop a chance since they are close to home when I brought my 2013 crownline to them. I paid over $2,000 for a few touch up spots of gel coat work, main oil change, lower unit service, and impeller change.I put my boat in the water after service was performed and immediately alarms started sounding on the boat. The impeller wasnt pulling water and the motor got very hot and started to overheat. I turned off motor and let it cool for a bit. I headed back to my slip (100 yards away) and all of a sudden the temp went down very fast - whatever was causing the blockage was cleared apparently but then then, all of the gear lube emptied out of the gear lube monitor into the lake! More alarms. Pulled boat out of water and took the boat back to this awful shop and immediately.Fred took no responsibility for any of the issues, let alone a simple apology! Somehow, this gear lube tube came off and he had nothing to do with that, of course. I spoke to several other mechanics who said that tube just doesnt come off to a 5 year old boat. Fred was very abrasive, rude, and took no responsibility. On top of all that, he charged me another 5 hours of service to reattach the gear oil tube that came off somehow and parts too - but the worst part is HE DIDNT GET MY AUTHORIZATION TO DO THE WORK! Yes, thats right, another $900 in service costs with NO WRITTEN OR VERBAL AUTHORIZATION!. If that wasnt enough, he was a jerk and rude every time I called and asked him for an update.Again, this is not where you want to bring your boat for any type of service or repair work. They will not provide you with a written quote or estimate - and they will just bill you! This matter will be taken up with the Attorney Generals Office and the BBB, along with a small claim lawsuit. Save yourself a lot of trouble and take your boat elsewhere, anywhere else!!!!
