I went to the U-Haul on west main St.Staff was very friendly. I didnt have any problems at all with my reservation, pick up or drop off.
We came to rent a 10 foot moving truck for 3 hours. We did not have a reservation, but they had plenty in stock, so there was no problem there. They were friendly. But the one star rating comes from the competency. The people at the desk were joking with other customers in line to the point of neglecting the ones standing in front of them for minutes at a time. It took us 20 minutes to make the reservation once we were actually at the register. When we went out to our truck, we realized that the keys didnt match the assigned truck on our paperwork, so we had to go back and spend another 20 minutes sorting it out. We have been in other U-Hauls where the same service was accomplished in a third of the time. Nice people, but something about the way this place is running is very inefficient.
Went to the New Britain location for the first time to rent a 10 truck. When my boyfriend and I arrived at our reservation time, there were two young women working and trying to resolve a customer issue but were having trouble finding the customers reservation. They were very disorganized and were taking a long time with no sense of urgency.When we were finally asked if we had a reservation in which we said yes, we were told that their computer system is having problems so they cant look up the reservation. They recommend we go on their website and self check in. We had no trouble trying to do so, but couldnt find on the site where to self check in. When we asked the front desk staff how do it, the first time we asked we were completely ignored because the girls working were too busy talking to each other. Then when we asked a second time, they stated that they dont know and said I should ask a random customer in the store because he just did it. At that point, my boyfriend had to change his tone and asked them to just look it up in the system, which supposedly they werent able to do before but now figured out a way to do it.Horrible customer service. The only plus was that the U-Haul we got was clean. We decided to return the vehicle using their self service so we wouldnt have to deal with them again.

99% of the time these employees don’t know what they are doing you can have a line out the door or be just dropping off and still wait forever. We need to train the employees on communication, manners and learning how to deal with the computers these people are clueless. Get rid of them all.
I HAD A HITCH INSTALLED ON MY XTERRA, I RECEIVED GREAT SERVICE A FAIR PRICE AND WAS DONE IN A TIMELY FASHION! I SPOKE WITH MARSHALL WHO WAS VERY HELPFUL.
Charlie was the only person who was knowledgeable and informative about fees that can be incurred in the small print. The other two employees were short with words and i felt like they found it funny that people get charged hidden fees. Moving is stressful enough. We shouldnt have to deal with mindless thoughtless people who try to make people even more stressed. Id rather pay extra milage fees than to have to deal with these moving and storage professionals again!
Do not bother with this place. First off, I dont know if all the uhaul locations are like this, but their storage units here are horrendous. Theyre made of wood and sheet rock. No wonder people here are complaining of rats and bugs. Theyre also not temperature controlled. Have fun moving in the summer, between how humid it is inside and the comically narrow halls that do not fit furniture, this place is a nightmare. Its highly overpriced for the quality of the storage unit they offer.The staff here? Absolutely rude and disrespectful and clearly do not care about their job. They have one clearly labeled dumpster for trash and one less clearly labeled. Made the mistake of putting metal frame pieces in the wrong dumpster. No one specified that to me when I asked about the dumpsters, and it was an honest mistake. They were so rude about it for absolutely no reason.Moved out of the storage and into a much much better quality and cheaper storage just up the road, and uhaul STILL billed me for the next month plus a late fee!!!! Good thing I kept the receipt of my move out day. Customer service was rude on the phone too about the situation. Overall absolutely terrible. Never ever go here. Better yet, dont use uhaul.Update: Turns out they moved out the wrong storage unit!!! And after finding that out they STILL emailed about charging another late fee. This place sucks!
Cost me almost $1,000 due to burned out wiring on my car after another location installed a wiring harness! U-Haul does not responsibility for any of it. I will never use U-Haul again for ANYTHING and I advise anyone to avoid them touching your car or buying any parts from this company since it will cost you!!
Spoke to someone at the New Britain location about securing a truck and trailer with ramp at 3-3:30, was told by the associate that they had both available and Id receive a call from the Corporate office about a pickup time within the hour. I got a text at 2:07 from a number confirming a pickup time for 2:30. Went down there just to find out no that pickup time was for West Hartford and that they didnt have a working truck nor did they even have trailers there. Apparently their associates are quite lost with what they have available and quite frankly I wouldnt waste the time and effort with them again.

The five stars are because I used their smart phone system. I never even went into the shop, and it was quick, quick. I was less happy when I had to wait in line and deal with their overworked employee.
Used them 2 or 3 times for moving. Reasonable prices. Had no problems
I called to have a trailer hitch bolted back onto my car that was falling off due to a botched installation from a different U-Haul location. They told me they had time to work on it today over the phone. I drove 30 minutes there and was told they could take me next week. I am not content to have a trailer hitch falling off my car for another week. Why even have a phone number? An hour and a half later Im back at home, not happy with the wasted time and effort.
I usually make my reservations online and have never had a problem when I show up at the store. They have the vehicle ready for me and I only spend a minute or two at the desk checking in and providing my ID. I have used them twice now in the past couple of years and would be happy to use them again.

Review your contract. I got insurance, and my furniture was damaged by rats and roaches. I lost everything! They did not reimbursed me, unfortunately paying for insurance does not include your things getting damaged by rodents, roaches or getting infected with bed bugs, it only covers fire and water damage. All of my furniture was brand new, I just got my taxes and was waiting for my new apartment to be approved, by the time I got my things, rats were living in my mattresses and couches. You could hear mice and rats in other storages next to ours while moving the things out. Bad experience. Sad I lost it all.
