Saw this place on Google and am immediately impressed by all the good reviews. Went there 2-3 times on a weekend morning and loving the shopping experience there. The aisle is a bit narrow but I love the feeling of abundance there! The staff is always busy stocking up fresh produce. I’m always in a bit of a hurry and never get the chance to go through everything thoroughly. Haven’t gone upstairs and see the prep lunch meals yet. I also love the self-refill set up there. The organic homemade tofu is amazing! Would love to spend several hours picking and choosing and getting to know this store better.

Literally my second home! Words cannot express how much I have learned and experienced here. I honestly don’t remember who put me on but I’m grateful. When I lived in town I would eat here daily for weeks for meat breaks. The dessert sections is out of the world. I can’t explain just go and try something lol. There are several dining areas and a juice and grill area. The grocery section has reasonable prices and a good selection. Upstairs is where the magic happens. I have and will continue to search for natural items to help myself and others. I simple go in and tell them what I am looking for and they lead the way. I have concurred my anxiety and doing better than I ever had with my depression thanks to them. I have so many family and friends I have recommended that still go till this day. Great customer service in every area of the store! Just gotta love THE WOOD!

I loved this place until one Sunday ago,I shopped and the store was getting ready to close the manger rushed me out of the store the staff weren’t helpful when I asked for helping looking for an item. The manger yelled at me stated STOP Shopping. Very rude unprofessional.

Best market in New Haven. Great selection and quality, cheap produce. Bakery and kitchen are killer. No meat but there is a fish monger across the street.

Big selection. Great fresh produce. Friendly associates. The checkout aisle is a little tight, and its pricey. You get quality products, so its worth the small inconveniences.

Love shopping here, coming from Denver this is a haven for things I need. The place does look a old building: just gives it more character. Love the selection and prices that are sometime better than Whole Foods. The people are so friendly and nice. Love the hot bar as well, and the bakery you can’t compare the freshness. 🍞🥖🧁🍰🥧

This is a vegetarian supermarket in New Haven. Everything here is vegetarian and they have good prices and selection. This place is a must for any vegetarian living in the area and it has most of the normal groceries a non-vegetarian would need.They also have a sandwich counter with very reasonably priced sandwiches, which I have not tried.

Absolutely love this place & they have the best quality in all their items but also a price to match that high quality so if youre not looking to spend $10 on a fruit salad you may want to look elsewhere. But again their stuff is high quality and most definitely worth it as long as youre willing to spend the money.

Great staff and store that are taking appropriate measures during COVID. Store front is very clean and has lots of items. Staff is very friendly and quick! Deli and coffee shop are amazing. Highly recommend any smoothie, sandwich or even their grab and go items. Must visit if you’re local or visiting! As you may be able to tell the store is vegan/vegetarian

Today was my first time here and I am extremely impressed at the various selections available. I purchased some delicious vegan snacks and my new favorite “Popeyes punch” smoothie! All I can say is OMG! Excellent staff as well

Excellent local vegetarian grocery store. Good prices and selection. Excellent bulk food selection. Great service. If you are vegetarian, dont shop anywhere else. Even if youre not, its still the best grocery store in New Haven.

Health food store sells this place short. It is a full-service grocery store, albeit one that does not sell meat*, fish, or alcohol. In this role, Edge of the Woods is the best grocery store I have ever been to. An incredible amount of their products are organic, local, or both. This does mean that their produce section varies more with the seasons than do most produce sections, but that can be a feature as much as a bug. EOTW also sells a number of items under its own generic label: tofu, grains, granola, and cheese are among these, and their prices are stellar. I come here for the value, as it is a lot of stuff I could only find at Whole Foods at prices closer to Trader Joes or Stop & Shop. Last, this place does a great job of putting out fresh bread and meals. These include those made in the south wing of the store, but are not limited to those: bread from bakeries around New Haven land on EOTW racks at severely reduced prices. One small gripe is that Asian ingredients are not well organized. I will shop here as long as I live here.*some dog foods contain meat

I love this place ever since I was a little girl..when it was on Edgewood ave.. Always feel like Im at home when Im there. Great food and very fresh fruits and vegetables.

I am disabled and I use a wheelchair. The guy with Multiple Sclerosis can never find the words to describe how grateful I am to Alvin + the staff for making my shopping stress free. I do not have to beg for assistance. You will notice their food is always fresh and tasty. God bless this crew.

Such a nice place to go and shop, they got all your needs, from produce to teas, drinks, and all sorts of snacks.Its a health store, so you can find many healthy, and delicious products, top notch stuff. Plus, there are plenty items which they have kosher too, especially with the growing Jewish community here, its just perfect.The produce is fresh, the watermelons were terrific, and I love getting the toffuti products here.

The workers are friendly and it was my first time shopping here so far they have what Im looking for. Except exotic fruits like soursop

Edge of the Woods has been around it seems forever. My Mother introduced me to the store when it was on Edgewood Avenue. The quality of food has always been consistently high. The variety of goods they carry is exceptional. Peter Dodve is the nicest, most personable and caring business owners you will ever meet.

They make the best carrot cake!!.....Ive tried a lot of carrot cakes, different states and none came close.

The staff are very customer friendly. I was searching for a particular tea at different stores, but when I came to Edge of the Woods who of the employees checked for me, when he couldnt find it he contacted the manager, the manager checked and then he called someone off the floor to look for it and they had it to me. It had arrived on the truck today and had not been stocked. I appreciate the effort and high professionalism.

Absolutely love this place, it’s a market that borders on being a health food store. The produce and prepared foods are very good. Massive variety of choices you didn’t know were available. I have gone in and found items for sale that are not in the local grocery store and I assumed incorrectly were no longer produced. The staff is pretty friendly and there’s plenty of parking. Check this place out you won’t be disappointed!

The food here is always DELICIOUS. I wish there were more places to sit. I brought my folks here for lunch with my aunt -- these are old Italians who are VERY PICKY ABOUT THEIR EGGPLANT PARMESAN and they LOVED IT. I have been vegetarian for 28 years and I love eating here. Highly recommend.

One of the things I miss most about living in New Haven. Awesome family-owned grocery store, organic, cage-free, fair trade all that. Even has a large naturopath health section upstairs. But the best part of this gem is the daily buffet. So, so, delicious, it could turn a carnivore into a vegan in a matter of seconds.

I come here for products and juice bar because I work close by. Dustin, Elizabeth, Dave and Lisa are magnificent. They have so much product knowledge, so pleasant and have incredible Customer service skills. I would not return if it wasn’t for the convenience. Reason being...the negative attitude, rude customer service and horrible experiences every time I get a juice. All of the employees at the juice bar have worked here for a bit, which is strange because, I’ve been told they all have been spoken to regarding this. I nevvvver have written a review. So I figured, maybe... other people who apply here may replace this negative part of a place that used to be so great.

Their fruits and vegetables are fresher than the larger chain supermarkets. I bought something from another Supermarket which I will not say their name. In one week the produce was already spoiled. They also have a lot of oils soap herbs seasonings and holistic medicine thats hard to find anywhere else.

They have everything and the store is very clean.

The variety is immense health food, fresh fruit and veggies, vegan, kosher and soy options. Natural hair and skin products, incense, bakery juice bar everything. It truly is a wonderful set up. But the customer service is not really friendly or seem happy so I dont go much at all. I like to spend my money where it at least seems Im appreciated . I refrain from shoping here.

Awesome market, freshest and most unique produce around by far. Bakery and hot food bar is a vegans dream!! Theyve been around since the late 70s and there is a reason for it. Check them out!!

This place is a neighborhood gem. They have a good selection of quality products and a hot bar. I prefer this place over the nearby big chain store and other corner stores by a country mile.

I like the food and the service is good I would recommend to people. They make pretty good bake goods vegan and kosher.

The food here is great, but don’t bother trying to go any time within like two hours of them closing or you’ll be sadly disappointed like I have been a half dozen times. Two hours before they close and “you can’t order any hot food because the grill is shut down.” Why the hell would you shut down your grill at dinner time so long before you close? I won’t bother trying to get food here again

Small, but with a decent selection. Lots of good vegan products available. It has that classic health food store ambiance that I just love so much. Definitely will be stopping in here more often.

I ordered a sandwich there the other day. The person making my sandwich was rude and condescending. The sandwich was good but if you are going to work with customers, you csn try to be a little more friendly.

The Manager Maryann is very nice very warm. And polite but some of the staff upstairs are very rude and unprofessional there is a gentleman there Salt and pepper hair he has been there for along time he is very nice too but the rest of the staff they need training

Excellent prices, great selection and consistent high quality. This is my primary grocery store for anything except meat (which they dont sell). Parking can be tough during peak hours.

Excellent vegan desserts and sandwiches in the hot/cold bar area (highly recommend the vegan BLT).Also, you can fulfill all of your vegan/vegetarian shopping needs in the market section!

This place is wonderful. Theres a great selection of affordable produce. Many of the foods are from local businesses in CT. There is not any Meat to be found here, but it does have Eggs, Cheese, and many Vegatarian, Vegan options.If youre into healthy fresh food, this is the place!

I like Edge of the Woods uniqueness and variety of healthy choice food/supplements but I cant lie- the flies in the summer time are out of control in this store. Also, I bought expired items more than once from them (not knowing until I got home they were expired). I like them but Im careful buying certain items from here.

Decent neighborhood health food store. Decent selection of bulk food and herbs, especially for the size. Prices tend to be a little high, but not nearly as bad as whole paycheck. I have yet to see an expired item on the main shelves.Staff has always been polite, but not exceptionally helpful or thoughtful. For example I am standing in line for a smoothie and the guy making them doesnt tell me he is closing until I ask because he starts cleaning the equipment.The two things I like least are the limited hours, and the lack of meat and culture of vegetarians are holier than thou. I actually want a healthfood store, not a cult.

They have many healthy foods that most other places do not, even Whole Foods.

Love their tofu lasagna and vegan tahini chocolate chip cookies and organic pie especially the juice bar and the pleasure of meeting the owner I would love to do security there just found out they viewed my job application

The staff are friendly and the salad bar is very good! Parking is almost always available in the parking lot, and it is very convenient to be so close to Yale and the downtown area! Its a GREAT place!!

I eat here several times a week love the people that work there the food is pretty good it is one of the only kosher options in the New Haven area.The only thing I would say is that the place needs a imediate remodeling.

As the only veg market in town, this place has a real edge. the bakery and hot food are great. the selection of veg food is awesome. the prices are nearly as painful as Whole Paycheck, though, and the employees tend to be either condescending or disgruntled.Oddly, they have nearly no vegetarian cheese selections. Almost all of their cheese has animal rennet or enzymes. Considering how dogmatic they are about being all-veg, this is just silly.

When I first moved to New Haven I remember my landlord said in reply to where can I buy somethings around here, Go to the Edge Of The Woods! I was a little confused because EDGEWOOD park was down the road. I must have had the most confused look on my face.... Once I figured out what it was I walked over and have been a regular ever since. Every department is amazing... If you have not gone PLEASE DO SO! It is not your typical SUPERMARKET

This organic food store used be the only shop in town that I go to for healthy choices when it comes to nutrition. However, as of today, I am saddened that I will not be able to go back and buy their products as I saw some mice running from where the greens refrigerators are toward the fruits section.Would I ever recommend this shop to people?For health issues, I would say NO.

I needed honey for my son allergies. This place was open and had raw honey for a good price. It was just hard to park.

Whoever is that stupid woman that reluctantly gave me the prices over the phone to a list of herbs i was inquiring about....she is EXTREMELY rude. She had a nasty attitude and hung up the phone on me as soon as she quickly rattled off the prices to me. Because of that, Ill take my business elsewhere.Wow, and if you read all the other bad reviews on this place, everybody is mentioning what a terrible experience they had with this woman. The woman who works in the vitamin part. She is rude, condescending, disgusting and mean. I suggest you fire her, because she is OBVIOUSLY driving away a lot of your customers.
