Good service
Place could use a good cleaning.
Cheap, decent food. Nice service
This is definitely a legit joint, packed with locals and pretty much only locals. The other review below was posted 6 yrs ago, so the 1 star isnt relevant to the new management. The food you get here is solid, plentiful, and delicious. Shrimp po boy was awesome, chicken wings awesome (maybe not as good as Manchu), and they have plenty of other pastas and sides. Should mention they offer chinese sides as well as convenient store items like drinks and snacks. Your tastebuds might not be blown away, but solid 4 stars nonetheless...
Whats to say? The prices are great, the poboys are exceptional and the people are friendly. Its quiticential New Orleans poboys at the corner store and you wont regret getting one!
For years I avoided this place because people were always loitering outside & it just looked sketch but a friend recommended I try them & Im glad I did. Its a 1 minute bike ride from the bicycle shop where I work so 5 stars for convenience. You can select from the buffet on display or order a custom-made sandwich (on a bun or po-boy bread). I ordered a chicken & sausage gumbo and am eating it as I write; its delish with just enough spice to make me sweat a little :-) I rode the very practical Brompton folding bike there so I didnt need to lock my bike outside. As usual, I folded it just outside their entrance and rolled it right inside on the bikes suitcase wheels. As always, no problems with wheeling the Brompton inside (when folded, its smaller than a baby carriage) and the counter staff were unusually careful packing the gumbo so it would not leak while I rode the bicycle back to the shop. All in all, a great experience for what they offer. WHY 4 STARS: Their name is misleading. Folks, this is a NYC style mini-mart with a food counter & 2 tables in the back. They do offer seafood (fish, shrimp, oysters) and have a hamburger grill but the name connotes something grander. For whatever reason, people still loiter outside. It wasnt that way at lunch today but the character changes by 5 PM. Mind you, all this could change in a heartbeat as theres a lot of upward pressure on rents. Low-income public housing that was formerly down the block has been replaced with a nice, French Quarter-esque mixed-income HUD housing project, which is now flanked by theaters, new hotels, new upper income housing, a yoga studio, coffee shop, etc.
