I brought in my bass to have completely new electronics put in, as well as a professional setup done to it. I was very nervous, as Id never brought an instrument of mine to someone else, but they were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly enjoyed their job and making music just as I do!They completed the project WAY ahead of schedule for a very fair cost, and Im beyond satisfied! They made my bass play like a completely new instrument. It feels better than any instrument Ive ever played now! They made it sound, play, and look better than I ever could, and Im sure their work will stand the test of recording sessions, traveling, shows, and years of playing.I couldnt recommend Strange Guitarworks enough. If you need anything, from small repairs to more large-scale projects, they will get it done! Do yourself a favor and bring them your instrument :)

The guys at Strange Guitarworks recently installed a strap button on my D28 and did a superb job (even though not a big job - I don’t have the guts to drill it myself). It’s one of the most badass strap buttons I’ve seen - chrome with padding to not scratch the body - perfect placement!I am actually going to bring it back to get it setup soon because, to be honest, the folks there did a great job and there was just an overall happy vibe in the shop (the Strange named fellow actually told me where to get coffee too when I could have just looked it up on my phone). Just clearly nice people! It is great to see people who genuinely love what they do and are happy to help you - I found my guitar repair shop in NOLA!

I brought 6 of my ukuleles in. Several were “beginner” ukes and not high end in quality. They upgraded my strings and adjusted the action in all of them. They sound amazing and are so much easier to play! And they did all this in one day. Seriously, their customer service was professional and patient. I’m pretty much a newbie, but they took the time to answer all my questions. A thoroughly pleasant transaction. I’ll be returning for any uke repairs and/or upgrades and I highly recommend them!

I had a unique request and am delighted that Benjamin and Aaron were able to do it, and do it so well. The request was to take a Yamaha nylon string silent guitar, which has a 2 wide, flat fretboard (like a standard classical guitar) and modify it to match the 1 7/8 wide, radiused fretboard of my Pono acoustic nylon string crossover guitar, and match the string spacings. There are only a handful of shops with the skill and willingness to take on a request like this, so I was very happy to find out about Strange Guitarworks on the web. I contacted Benjamin and after a few email exchanges about how to go about it I made the measurements and sent them the work order.I live in New York and had a Yamaha SLG200N shipped to them, and they did the modification and shipped it back. The neck is smooth and beautiful and looks like it came straight from the factory. And now I can have the same muscle memory when switching between the two guitars. Very satisfied with Strange Guitarworks. Places like this are a gem.

I have visited Ben & Strange Guitarworks twice in the past year or so and both times came out completely satisfied.First was for the installation of all new components and pickups in a Squier Jazzmaster, along with a full PLEK job and setup. Loved the way it turned out and I havent had a string pop a single time.I went again a couple of weeks ago to have an old single coil pickup rewound that wasnt registering any resistance. Ben had the pickup fixed in less than 24 hours and even soldered longer pickup lead wires for me.Great service and great quality. Cannot recommend them enough.

Ben and his team did some deep surgery on my 12-string and it basically feels like the 12-string of my dreams. No review can quite capture how I feel about this place. Great for casual set-ups/mods and specialized in work on vintage instruments. Super friendly and happy to revise their work till you’re happy. It’s really one of the few objective reasons we can continue to call NOLA a music city.

My little Martin tenor is a treasure, so deciding on a neck reset was terrifying, the fellows did a great job and now I can play it again without a capo or slide. Great job, professional, now I’m thinking of having them rework my 1958 Levin I bought out of a guitar shop window in Brussels

DONT BUY A NEW GUITAR! TAKE YOUR OLD ONE TO BEN!!!Over the past year, Ben has set-up four of my guitars/basses, including a nut replacement. Every one came back to me in just a few days, and more importantly, sounding MUCH better and easier to play. He has the right ear, the right gear, and the experience needed to please his customers. Mission accomplished! Ive also taken the set-up course he offers. I highly recommend it, even if you dont plan to do your own guitar work. I left with a much better understanding of the nuances of guitar construction/set-up, and better armed to make smart guitar purchases. Ben is the missing link NOLA musicians need…pro or not. Thanks Ben!-Eric

Benjamin did a neck reset, re-fret job, and also did some bridge plate repairs on my 1974 Martin D-28. I just played it for the first time at my gig last night. It played so easily I had to lighten my attack and press lighter on the strings because I was so used to fighting the guitar! Sounds great, Benjamin! Thanks for all your hard work and attention to detail! Ill be back with another guitar soon.

Ive brought two guitars to Benjamin over the last year or so for setups/fretwork. His work is nothing short of stellar, with both instruments becoming much easier, and more enjoyable, to play than before they arrived in his shop. His prices are extremely reasonable, and hes a very nice guy to deal with. Ive recommended him to friends/bandmates, and theyve had the same outstanding experience that I have. If theres a better tech in the New Orleans area, I sure havent found him/her.

Ben just finished executing a complete re-fret on my beloved 96 guild s-100. He carved a new bone nut, properly set the intonation, adjusted the pickup height and fixed a wonky selector switch. I was a little worried about the bound fretboard causing some problems, but it came out beautifully and I am very pleased. It plays better than ever before, the action is perfect, and the feel is incredible. Stainless steel frets are definitely the way to go, and Ben is the guy to go to. Thanks!

My EBMM Stingray 5 suffers with a temperamental neck, and moving it from its previous home to humid New Orleans did it no favors. Not only did Benjamin make the necessary adjustments with a quick turnaround, but he kept careful records to ensure that we got the same results when it needed a little tweaking. I knew my instrument was in the hands of an artist, and it came back wonderfully playable. Highest possible recommendation.

Congratulations to you for your honest to goodness information and simple but effective ideas that allowed me to set up a Floyd Rose bridge. This was my first hands on experience with this type of bridge and I sought several other sources that whilst not confusing did not allow a common sense solution. Yours did and I successfully set up, tuned, intonated and floated the bridge to near perfection cheers.

My husband is a full time musician, and when his banjo was badly damaged in a fall, he was looking at possibly losing a very lucrative gig if it wasnt fixed fast.Benjamin understood the situation and put all of his attention on repairing the banjo immediately. Benjamin fixed my husbands banjo in less than 20 minutes for next to nothing. He stopped what he was doing and focused completely on our emergency. Within minutes he had replaced the broken peg (he had a match on hand!!), untwisted the neck, pulled back the action and tightened the rods - all while we waited! We thought this was going to be a big ugly repair, but Ben got it done like a champ! My husband has been going to Strange Guitarworks for years, and takes all his stringed instruments to Benjamin. His work is top notch, reasonably priced and lightning fast! We HIGHLY recommend him and credit him with saving the day more than once!

Awesome!! Cant say enough about Benjamin at Strange Guitarworks. I came across Benjamins website, and read with great interest his blog posts about the tools and procedures he uses to properly setup the instruments he works on. As an engineer I appreciated the scientific and rational approach he takes, so I decided to bring him a Stratocaster that I have had for many years for him to look at.I had had this particular guitar setup a couple of times before, but was never really happy with how it played. After showing the guitar to Benjamin, he asked about what problems I was having and noted some issues with the fretwork, and recommended a fret level and setup. Two days later, I picked up the guitar, and to say that I am pleased with it is an understatement. It has never played so well and so in tune all the way up the neck, and the tremolo is usable now without having to retune after every use. I was so pleased that I took Benjamin my old G&L bass that same day, which had some severe buzzing problems. Benjamin took the time to run me through the options for this vintage instrument, and we decided to again go with a fret level and setup. I picked it up the next day (!), and again I am so happy with the results. In the space of 4 days, I had 2 instruments which were languishing in the closet turn into the best playing instruments that I own! Now I just need to get the rest of my guitars in his hands!Benjamin is awesome to work with. He makes sure to ask you about your playing style etc. before doing his work. He also takes before and after measurements of your action, which he leaves in the case when you pick it up. Plus, he is also a gear head like many of us, and truly understands the nuances of each individual instrument and what it takes to get the best out of them. Highly recommended!!

Benjamin hit it out the park on this one! I could not be happier with the work that he did on my guitar! He is a true expert and craftsman. Many of you hear the phrase neck reset and it scares you. Well you have nothing to fear with Ben. He is gentle as a dove and wise as a serpent when it comes to anything with strings! He always called to let me know how things were going. I know this job was a headache for him but i know he appreciates the challenge. This is my second L. Benito. I won it on Ebay for a good price. Sadly this guitar was kept in a ver humid environment for many years (even though its a 2003) The top i believe is somewhat rippled and there is visible mold growth inside the sound hole. But nonetheless it sounds amazing! And thanks to Ben, it plays incredible! No buzzing with very low action. Wow what a night and day difference in the action! It was like 1/4 of an inch high at 12 fret before. Im glad i got the fret level and set up done too. These guitars are rare as heck and if you can find one under $2,000 its a good buy. The Alerce top is great. Amazingly clean tone and tons of headroom and sustain. I think these are the most pleasing sounding guitars Ive heard and Ive played a few. I knew he would do good, but i wasnt expecting it to come out this good. There is no gap at all where the neck joins the body and no scratches either! TAKE YOUR GUITAR TO BENJAMIN!!!

I walked into Bens shop with a beat up 67 Epiphone Riviera that sported a nasty crack in the back of the neck just below the headstock, worn frets, a collapsed AVR-1 and a nasty fretboard that had too much relief on one side and was backbowed on the other.I left Bens shop with guitar that is both amazingly playable and freakishly great sounding; it intonates beautifully, chords are warm, rich and in-tune, and if you dig the old school sounds of Otis Rush and Magic Sam, well, this guitar has it.Lots of luthiers would have looked at my guitar as being either too risky to repair or as a chance to make bank for the month, but Ben looked at it as a challenge and delivered the goods. Thanks, Ben, that Epi is amazing, and I really appreciate all your hard work to bring the old girl back to life!
