I stop here all the time to grab lunch since I drive around the area a lot and I’ve got no complaints. Good selection and fair prices with staff that are attentive and friendly. A fantastic experience for all, even a roadrunner obsessed coyote! ;P
Great location! This place has a great service. Congratulations 👏
Best super market ever! Food is good, it has an easy layout, and their bakery stuff is to die for! I’m also impressed by how they manage to fit so much stuff in a smaller (compared to other grocery stores) space
Great place to shop but parking lot is not ideal. Like trying to jam a Suburban into a compact spot for all spots.
The store was well equipped to meet needs of anyone needing fresh fruits, vegetables, variety of meat, cold cuts, & other products! Aisles had shelved items labeled w/ overhead signs, refrigerated products easy to find in cases, & floors very clean. I am to go back another day!
Recently moved to NP and didnot realize such a wonderful super market nearby . Almost everything is available . Nice and clean and easy layout to find things. Staffs are really helpful when I had a problem with self checkout. Prices are little higher compared to walmart but compared to nearest Walmart (5 miles) this is better and would definitely shop here :)
It is a nice neighborhood supermarket. Nothing special but you can find most of things there.
Absolutely disgusting at the fruit and vegetables area. Fruit flies all over
Just a nice Supermarket for Hometown
I have had no problems here. A little pricey but the closest store. Employees are friendly and helpful. Never too too busy when I go which I like especially nowadays. Well stocked and clean.
My favorite supermarket. They have everything and are very friendly!
I want to make a suggestion to Acme as it pertains to dress code at their supermarkets. In my opinion, Employees should not be wearing t- shirts, masks buttons etc with words promoting any political party, groups they are affiliated with in the workplace. This dress code is a common practice in many places of employment. I believe in freedom of speech but when you are working with the public keep your personal life and opinions private. I witnessed an exchange in the store today due to an employee promoting their opinions on their mask as they were ringing up a customer. Believe in who you want, but maybe do it on your own time as you serve the public. I don’t want to have to sit here and listen to this B-S when I’m just trying to food shop. Keep it professional.
Plenty of stocks/grocery items @ reasonable prices.
They always have the best sales. Buy 1 get 2 free off of meat & many other items in the store. I wonder how they stay in business lol . All jokes aside its a great supermarket to save money. Especially in these times.
Acme is a well thought out store, wide aisles, lots of choices, and some specialty areas. Prices are reasonable, and their sales are worthwhile.
Nice bright supermarket with a full variety of things I need
Neat, orderly, helpful and pleasant employees.
Great experience as usual, requested a strip sirloin cut to 1 & 1/2 inches thick and the butcher gave me what will be a delicious steak, Thank you.
10/07/2021 Where is management?! Fruit flies infesting non organic fruits. Disgusting!!!!Most of the staff is great and the storeselection is good. The bakery on the other hand needs improvement. When the package on their bakery bread says packed on, means that is the date the bread was thawed out from frozen. I don’t suggest eating their sushi.
Great for buck
It has a good selection and good prices.Free parking, too.
It is a grocery store like Shoprite. It has enough variety and relatively good prices. It is not that crowded and the employees are polite. We go every week.
A huge store in New Providence. You get fresh vegetables and fruits. You get flowers, variety of cheese, meat, and all required groceries for your house. I have shopped here several times to buy groceries and cook in my hotel kitchen. I was glad to see Asian and Indian food items available this time I went. They added self check out kiosks for easy billing. That made things faster for billing. A bit pricy in this store but convenience is there as it is close by.
Very convenient, friendly store, open late. Its a bit pricier than a Walmart but you get most things here. Also, Organic produce selection is a bit limited and more expensive than at Whole Foods or a Trader Joes
Thats is the New Providence store but I dont like that store. I went to the Morris Plains store which is a better store.
Acme app does not permit more than one phone number to confirm whether customer has an Acme user card. Something is wrong with Acmes data system.
Not crowded and social distancing at its finest
Preferred this location when it was A&P. Self-checkout lanes are gone, and theres often only one cashier early morning/late night, yet the lines still regularly extend out into the aisles. My usually serene composure was finally broken one evening when the manager stopped by to develop the cashier working the line in which Id just spent twenty minutes waiting. After thirty seconds of them blathering about customer engagement and items scanned per minute while they completely ignored me, I tired of the irony and raised my voice. Having some experience in managing employees in a customer service setting, I gave them both what I considered to be the fairest possible appraisal of their efforts, and when I was finished I left my items at the register and forswore this place for good.Stop & Shop in Berkeley Heights is just five minutes out of the way, and far superior in my humble estimation.
Horrible horrible store. I would love to meet a manager to discuss my issues but there is never one to be found! Something like the food on their shelves....tons of things never to be found! I guess they are not hiring someone to order new stock? Went back over a four day period and several items were still bare on the shelves! The checkout lines get longer by the day and the poor kids they hire take the brunt of the frustration for management having 2 lanes open during high peak times. Last two days I was stuck behind someone because the poor kids as problems at the registers and no management would come and help. Poor kids were so down on themselves. In a nutshell I’m finally done. Hate to have to travel further but at least I know if I’m going for certain items, they will probably be on the shelves. Lack of supply, lack of employees and total lack of management killer what used to be a good A&P.
This is a very well organized and well stocked grocery store. The lines are never crazy long and the staff is always nice. . What more could you want?
Conveniently located and long hours of operation. Good for non-perishable items. Expensive produce. No cart return in busy parking lot.
How does this store stay in business? The usual problem is that checkout is really, really slow. Today I went there at 8 a.m. to purchase 1 item I needed for a recipe I was making. The store opens at 7:30 a.m. Four workers were standing out front having a cigarette. Inside there was only 1 register open and it had a long line. There was 1 customer standing at Courtesy to buy cigarettes but there was no one behind the counter and he was being ignored by a man who looked like a manager and the 4 workers who came in from their smoking break. After pleading with another worker for help someone got the customer his cigarettes and another worker begrudgingly opened a register to check me out. Next time Ill go to Shop Rite.Update: Went back today. Again I ask, how does this store stay in business? Only 1 register open at 10:30 in the morning. I only had six items so I went to the self check-out line. My items were large and there wasnt enough room for them on the little ledge there so I bagged 2 of them and put them in my cart. That set off a warning. When the helper came over I asked him where I was supposed to put my items while I kept scanning, his response was 10 items only. I guess they put someone in the front who cant count. And who isnt helpful. This was another really negative experience. Cant someone fix this store??
Nothing to cheer about...it is a supermarket. The produce, prepared food (really dreadful!...but they probably have 10 different kinds of packaged pulled pork..they are all commercial and are no good) and meats are all below my expectations. I really have had no success with their meats. I go across the street to the butcher or go to Kings for anything fresh.
Good selection of products in a medium retail space.
Fresh veggies, good variety and clean market
Lack of self checkout is horrible. Lines are slow and too few. Run in for a loaf of bread, eggs, or any other quick item and good luck getting out quickly.
Acme is a great supermarket and all, but when it comes to the sushi, they just cant do it. It doesnt resemble authentic sushi whatsoever. Great store otherwise, though.
Great deals and great prices and sales on meat . Would recommend highly
A former A and P supermarket that was beautiful and shiny 5 years ago but is now showing its age. Despite some upscale features such as an olive bar, a prepared food counter, and a quality bakery, the store suffers from limited space, tired produce and an overworked staff. The lack of self checkout stations does not help matters.
Great Service and good prices
I like this shop. You can find a lot of goods here. Lines to cashier not longer than 2 customers. ACME has very interested loyalty program Just4U
GREAT STORE! Don and all the guys/gals in the meat department AND Tom and the guys in the seafood department are the BEST. for great service, advice on how to perfectly cook the meat, seafood. These guys/gals know how to build customer loyalty. I only shop at Acme for meat and seafood.
Good produce and meats. The prices seem a little over some more budget friendly places like ShopRite. You can still get some good discounts there.
Ok place
Very clean and great layout. Cashier was very nice and helpful 🥰
I enjoyed their selection and prices.
If you are black you are not welcomed in this store. You will be called dirty and looked at with disgust
Great location and its never too busy. Good value for a grocery store. Attentive staff like all other acmes.
Deceptive pricing. Chicken legs had buy 1 and get 2 free. And, each pack was overly priced; 3 times the normal price. If you don’t have three packs and picked only two, the register charges both pack.
Great grocery store, very well organized, very nice staff, people are usually very helpful and the butcher will cut meat to your satisfaction. The bakery is a little bit less impressive been some of their nicer competitors, but they have a delicious prepared food area for carry out dinner when youre in a pinch.
Waited at butcher for 15 min. Another worker who was already struggling to cover bakery and seafood pages someone 6 times. I eventually went to customer service desk. The person being paged was on a “business call”. The butcher was on lunch break (at 5 pm?). I would have to wait 30 min. I left - for good. This place is just horrific.
Watch out for the shopping cart guy who will flip you off in the parking lot, wait for you to go into the store and then follow you around and stalk you like a creeper! The man is dirty and a complete freak who will give you nightmares! Spoke to a fill in manager named Oliver who was nice and spoke to the employee and tried to address the issue. Oliver instructed me to call back the next day and speak to Jewel the main manager. So I call the next day to speak to Jewels. As Im starting to tell him what happened he said, Yes I already heard and spoke to him and it will not happen again. Really, thats all you did?! Not good enough! They lost my business. NO employee has the right to flip someone off for NO reason at all and make them feel nervous and uncomfortable.
The items Acme has on sale a good price, but Im a ShopRite fan. None- the-less this is one of the nicest Acmes around. There lots of restaurants and shop a stone throw away. There is plenty of parking right out side the door.
The store is clean and has good quality products... the produce is priced a bit high though... and the Sunday papers they sell are frequently missing the ads and coupons.
Favorite place to get fresh steam shrimp
Everyone very helpful . Some items on shelves are out dated but easy to return.
Very good selection and excellent chicken said. A bit overpriced though. Final bill is always larger than other supermarkets
Always the most rude staff. Wish this wasnt the closest grocery store to me. I never leave reviews but the past three times Ive gone in the staff has been either so rude to me or each other in front of customers. Never a decent experience.
Good local market... Friendly staff, good selection
Poor selection of spices.Produce gone or wilted.Workers friendly and helpful.
Large selections. Plenti of parking.Super clean store
It is a little more than a convenience store from price point. With farmers market close by, vegetables are exponentially expensive at Acme. All other groceries are expensive by at least 10% or more than Shoprite a couple of miles away.Bottled water is one item that I always buy at Acme - Great offers. 3 for $10 for premium brands at least once a week.Other than that it is a nice store to get stuff you need, but lazy to drive for additional 15 minutes (to Shoprite).
Great place to shop for new providence residents...
Well stocked, conveniently located, lots of parking. Reasonably priced.
Amazing fresh bakery section! Used to be expensive but recently has many good sales!
Store is small and limited in what they offer, but everything in stock is fresh and good quality.
Ok for some things if they are in stock. Staff is not trained in all departments like seafood etc if you can find someone to take care of you.
TerribleService is bad every time I stop bToday needed few quick items and was in plaza for other things. First young kid on checkout is using fowl language and laughing making jokes with girl in next laneNo hello. No bagging my few groceriesThen because he is gabbing with othercenployee he rings up wrong. He finds it funny. No key to register to correct. Someone calls for someone to come but no one doesEmployees stil lfind funny. I walk out. Terrible
Really like this store! The layout is nice and easy to navigate.
A little over priced but some good deals
Clean. Well organized. Friendly and helpful staff.
No pumpkins when I wanted it but the staff was so friendly and helpful everytime and the store is kept neat and clean...
Good selection of food. Clean and nice place.
Its fine - nothing spectacular. Not a lot of organic options if thats your thing, but prices are good.
Lets start with the parking situation, which really isnt the fault of the store, what is their fault, or a product of their existence, is the lack of locations to put empty shopping carts. The parking lot is usually in disarray during really busy times and Ive seen lots of speeding and inattentive driving. Add to this the jumbles of empty carts and its an even bigger disaster. Then, as you enter the store, you see even more empty carts blocking what walkways there are. People exit the store and deposit the carts just about anywhere there is an empty space, well, other people need to use those spaces to get to where they need to go.The store itself is usually very clean and very well stocked. Just dont try to get a roasted chicken after 7 because they wont have one. As the store has aged slightly Ive also noticed how the staff has become less friendly and more disinterested. When this place first opened up, everyone said Hi or greeted you in someway. Not anymore, they seem bored and rather disillusioned with their positions. Theyve also moved a bunch of stuff around and incorporated more specialty items like organic, vegan, and gluten free. Which is great for people who want those things. They also have good specials on meat and poultry which is good. Theyll never be ShopRite with their prices but at least theyre not like it was when it was an A&P and it felt like I had to mortgage a house to buy apples. Now, lets get to the front end and the registers. The best part about A&P was the self-checkouts because they never, ever had enough cashiers. Even on a late weekday around 10, you could run into a line because there was only one cashier, and invariably there was an issue with a price or something at the register. Ive left baskets of groceries on the floor and walked out at times in the old, old store around the corner on Central Ave. What made the original incarnation of this store were the self-checkouts because of the lack of help. Again, invariably, you will wait on line in this Acme because they dont have enough help up front. Thats a given, its going to happen. And invariably, you will hear muttering, When are they bringing back the self-checkouts? One time, a customer asked one of the front end people, I surmised she was a manager or head bookkeeper, about this very issue and her response was that Acme doesnt believe in self-checkouts because they take jobs away from real people. Well, to be quiet honest, theyre never going to get enough people to work in this place to help enough to get people out of the store. Youre not taking away jobs from people because there arent enough people to fill the jobs.If anyone from Acme actually reads these things, please bring back the self-checkouts, save our sanity, please.Update: Its been a couple years since I wrote this review and looking back on it, my original observations stand in many ways. The parking lot is still a disaster waiting to happen, there are still carts all over the place, but much better managed now during Covid because they have someone dedicated to cleaning them. Which is awesome. The prices have gotten better and when I did the math on the time and gas spent getting to other places it kind of evens out because the sales on things like meat and some essentials are really good. They were the only store in the area to have TP and paper towels at the beginning of Covid and they handled the rush and madness that happened very well. The workers are pushing through and doing a great job keeping the shelves stocked, neat, and clean. Theyve also slowly been getting the staple items back in on a regular basis and Ive noticed some off brand stuff that is being used to supplement the regular brands were used to seeing. The self-checkouts have been pretty good too. Theyre still slower than other stores and people struggle with them from time to time but its no big deal. The cashiers have also been really great, patient, and helpful which is greatly appreciated.
Great deals and great prices and sales on meat . Would recommend highly
Meh. Meat prices are ok with sales. Limited stock but good enough for basic shopping.
Good higher end market, no self checkout.
I do so miss A&P. I cannot figure out what the heck is going on here. There nonsensical monopoly games, discounts at gas station 3+ towns away and dont get me started on those pot sets. All the while getting higher prices, out of stock items, longer lines, disgruntled employess, and not so fresh meat and produce that they push off there shelves as buy one get one and their new cash registers are out dated and no more self checkouts and you may get lucky if you get an express lane or you and your 10 items or less may get stuck behind that person who is stocking up on their groceries and then wants to pay by check.
Politeness and quick.
I just had a horrible experience in the ACME Market in New Providence with cashier Beth at register 10 at approximately 4:45 pm this afternoon.I had my items on the conveyor and was ready to check out. The gentleman in front of me was completing his purchase. I stepped into the next aisle to pick up a candy bar and when I returned shed taken the next customer. That was fine. However what happened next was not. When I came back to the register I said Im right here. She then yelled You left the line and you were on your phone.I stated calmly Dont yell at me. How inappropriate. I am your customer. You are being rude. She said Well you are being rude to me by being on your phone. Two items one, I had my phone up to my ear but wasnt speaking on my phone. Two, regardless of whether Im on my phone it is completely inappropriate for her to chastise or attempt to discipline me. Im not in a position to be disciplined by a cashier. I stated You dont know what my circumstances are. You have no excuse for your behavior. One person being rude does not equate to another person being rude. Im your customer. But thats okay, Ill discuss your rudeness with your manager. What an epic fail in customer service. Life is complicated enough without the cashier at the supermarket attempting to add to it. Now I have to take the time to ensure that the situation is handled. You come to the market to have a pleasant shopping experience. That is certainly not what I encountered. To management, please instruct Beth that it isnt appropriate to yell at your customers, regardless of what happened. We arent here to be disciplined by you. We are here to be served by you.On a side note, I was listening on the phone not using it, because Id walked to the store from the New Providence Fall Festival and my husband and baby were trying to find me.I realized Id missed three calls from him when I went to check out. On the next call I answered and he was already speaking to someone else, so I was waiting for him to finish speaking.
Nice employees, some product placement strange and confusing.
Very clean, super friendly staff, good variety...but, high prices on many items compared with other stores in the vicinity
Shop here regularly i just wish they had baggers.
GOOD STORE, NO SELF CHECK OUT, LONG WAITS
Decent variety but too many expired items. I shouldnt have to keep telling them they are expired too.
Convenient location with all your cooking needs.
Good selection of meat at reasonable prices. Vegetables are not the best.
Clean and really good grocery store
Very clean store with a great friendly staff.
Ugh! Terrible store! New Providence deserves something much better for our great town!
Usually long lines at check out. But last time it is getting better
I like
Excellent service and they have what we need
They rearranged everything in a disorganized way so that it is difficult to find what you need. Organic foods are no longer in one convenient aisle. Plastic bags were moved to aisle 3 opposite from spices and away from garbage bags located six or seven aisles away.
Good store for cake and quick purchase
Always clean Dales are great
Nice market. Lots of options
Excellent produce, friendly helpful staff.
