Wish I could give zero stars. They dont open at 9am. They open whenever the hell they feel like it. Could be noon, 2pm, who cares if there are customers waiting right?
Got all the things I needed . Very nice place
Madam could make an effort to smile at her customers. That would go a long way to make them feel welcome
The store Ghanaian owned. Very friendly and helpful. They sell wholesale and retail. You can also buy fresh meat there as well. Parking isnt too bad either.
Home away from home. You can purchase all your west African ingredients from here
It’s a good African shop. They have almost everything you may need .
Its a great African market where u can shop for basic stuff from your home country. Its well stocked and kept neat
Make us remember home
That too as well in my pops Truck 🚒🚛
Good customer service...
Quality and fresh African grocery. A bit pricey though.
This place has all of the authentic foods, spices and herbs youll need to make traditional meals passed down through generations. The selection of food items mirrors the selection you may find in Lagos. The customer service is great and the environment is wonderful.
This place has everything you need for your house. One stop shop for any African food/grocery ans drinks as well.
Very good all the way 👍
The sign says open at 10am and 34 mins later NO ONE us there. Wasted trip.
Great selection of frozen fresh leaves for sauce, and many smoked fish. Good spices section. They always have red and white Kola nuts by the butcher. All around good selection. They are not mean people like some of the reviews say, they just have to deal with many customers every day. Thank you Makola!
I love to buy my African food here
This is a great store but its okay
You get mostly African food you needed here.
Everything l needed from Africa was here..and their customer service is excellent..Two.. ways check out..is perfect.
They have everything you need in cooking but need to work on creating more pay points to allow their customers to pay and leave quickly
Well equipped with varieties of African food, wear and other African related items.Professional customer service = 0. They treat customers like they dont need them. From cashier to Manager, every one looks too serious 😠 . Common welcome greeting is expensive over there. Let alone a smile. If you dont care about all the description above, just go there and you will get what you want.
LOVELY AFRICAN FOOD STORE
Their staffs are fresh and affordable
Very good customer relations from the cashier (Male) which I think hes the owner, fast n quick check, I got all necessary African groceries I need over there, up mokola always fresh.
Almost, everything I needed
One of few places around you could buy African ingredients and I love shopping here. The staff here are pretty awesome, super friendly and very welcoming. And the prices are pretty decent too.
For All Your Island Food Needs, Great Place Shop!😁
One of the first African groceries in north jersey
Well arranged items on shelves
Its ok got nice African food stuffs
Good customer service
I dont like that they have a man reading out the prices of everything you buy... Checkout is slow and frustrating. Definitely not clean enough inside lol Small selection and severely unclean freezers. Pricing is the only thing ok lol oh and the workers are sweet and nice!
One stop shop for all African food
A nice shop with all African food
Rude staff. High prices never going back
The best place to get valuable African products for your money.
Excellent service. I got all that I needed in the shop and services by attendants were superb.
Great African store
I went to get some African groceries and was able to get some smoked goat and cow foot. They even had smoked lamb and dried fish of all kinds. I was looking for a specific palm oil which they didnt carry so I was a little disappointed but I know where I can get it in another town. They bag your groceries for you, which is also nice. It is clean and they have African fabric if you need as well.
The man at the counter is always on the phone and will be talking instead of paying attention to the customers. This is unacceptable. Remember, customers are always first.
Has all my African food needs. And the prices are decent.
Nice place to shop.....it is like home away from home.
They have majority of African stuff but they are a bit pricey.
Good services
Great prices
Good for African food. Well run. Clean. Polite staff. A bit pricey
Great price and the staffs are friendly too
Got the best croaker fish from here!! Love it love it
Crowded and difficult to navigate especially for a first-timer. Items on sale lacked product descriptions. Staff presence on the floor was limited. As an aside, if you have an ethnic based store, endeavor to place product descriptions for uncommon things to help non-members of your ethnic group who may be curious.
The Makola African market is a very good good place where you can shop for your needs, basically African foods, but its a Ghanaian oriented.
Good place for shopping. Can get everything from Africa..
This is my favorite africain store in New jersey
Definitely, my family has had a long relationship with Makola African Market stretching over 15 years and our experience has been wonderful and successful.
I came all the way to jersey to buy a product, which Kingston stores didnt have🙄
Truck loading was quick have to load off street at bus stop.driver dont touch freight old guy there tries to fool you into pushing pallets jack
Very good source of African groceries and products. Need heating system during the winter months as it’s very cold in the store. Payment system needs to be improved i.e barcodes on items will be better.
Friendly atmosphere with a lot of Ghana/Africa foods
Will go again. I have to search for some African products that may aid in regenerating hair follicles and possibly shrinking fibroids and other issues
Great place to find Ghanaian food and tropical ingredients. Parking was a little hellish
Great place, came from New York to see and experience this place .
As someone who takes pride in helping African businesses, it is difficult for me to write this negative review. My wife and I are new to the NJ area and we were surprised by the disrespect we witnessed. The gentle man that stood by the door followed us around the store as if we were about to steal something. I almost asked him how much he got paid a month so I could write him a check. The lady or his wife(i assume) behind the glass counter was even worse, they absolutely lacked simple customer service skills. He raises every item to her and she eyeballs it and rings it on the counter without scanning. I doubt i will ever go there again.
I visited this market to get oxtails yesterday, 2 days before Thanksgiving. I waited in line for about 20 minutes while he was helping someone else. There was another person in front of me but she left. After done he walked away and when he came back he walked past me got a box of some other meat and started cutting it. After done he finally walked over to me and just said yea. No how can I help, would would you like, etc., just yea. I told him I wanted oxtail. He seemed to have an attitude when I asked him to weigh 2 of them and tell me the cost. I told him to go ahead with the 2. While cutting I asked him to cut them small, and to cut the fat. He completely ignored me and cut it in these large and weird chunks and did not touch the fat. When o got home and looked at it I was so frustrated because I did not realize how bad it was. I literally had a piece of rail and just pieces of fat not attached to meat in the bag. Pictures posted. Really disappointed considering I paid close to $50. I did hear from another customer that there is a better guy that cuts meat. But overall no one in the store seemed to cater to the customers. I did plan to get more but noticing his attitude I stopped at the 2 oxtails and went to my normal Dominican meat market at 773 springfield avenue, Irvington and got about $20 more of oxtails. There meat was so much better, no wait time and they were nice.
Very impressed with the store, so far the best African store I’ve ever visited. It’s clean, items are properly labeled and tagged, went there to get a bag of honey beans the price was reasonable.
The customer service is poor. They need to have more employees and they need to know that they are there to cater for their customers. Check out line was long in a small store of the size. The lines prevents other shoppers to access products on the shelves.
It was okay i just stopped to pick African bread and goat meat and other stuff. It was good.
Quite a variety of African foods.
They sell good quality products but the service is slower than a snail.
Well stocked and clean market. Good service. Not sure of parking for market? ?
I can get facial products at low cost..
You can get mostly West African raw foods here. Meatpies are great if you can get them. They go quick.
Great place to get authentic African food! Friendly service and prices are affordable!
Makola is okay, one of the biggest african stores in New jersey. You can find almost all you need here. Paying is such a hassle tho, line is always slow...could be better.
Makola African market is where you get any African food or products you need for any occasionand good services.
Anything you want from the traditions of African food stuffs and products, You will get it there. Love it...
I was surprised by the variety of products in the store. I would go back definitely
Great
A good heating system would be appreciated during this cold season. Please install one!
Parking is a problem there for customers
The price Little expensive
Sell most African products...when its time to pay if you have cash they will quickly service you than someone who has a debit card as it takes a little longer
Even though the sign says African market, most of the items in here are Ghanian and Nigerian delicacies. Poor lighting gives you a feeling of shopping in the basement. You will definitely find all you need to make egusi soup in the aisles. The staff can be friendly at times. Paying for the purchase feels like performing a over the counter bank transaction.Feel like sending money overseas, such services are available. Parking is an issue
They need more places like this, this is a very fine establishment.
Very nice people not hard to find
Excellent and authentic products. Clean environment. Wish they provide online opportunity for long distance customers.
You can find good things. Waiting time was long to pay for items.
This place has a variety of African foods. If you live in the Newark area of New Jersey and are looking to buy African foods, Makola African Market is the place to go.
They have what I need. Its dark. Man behind the glass is no help. Acts like his mouth is glued shut. Woman wasnt much help either. Guy behind the glass did assist me in getting what I needed. I guess the store is in a bad area in Newark because omg you cant hear or understand what hes saying behind that glass. Its definitely like a bank transaction except youre not in your car talking the teller lol
Taste of home right here in Jersey.
For Ghanian food, recipe/cuisine, Makola is the place to visit for you shopping.
Good place to get African goods and products however, some goods are really expensive and could be gotten cheaper somewhere else. Waiting line to pay for goods is too long and theres need for heating system as it gets very cold in there during the cold season.
Free full chicken with every purchase during the 2016 Christmas holiday. I hope it continues every year.
Always bring me back home with all the African culinary ingredients....
Great, the workers were helpful.
You need it. Theyve got it! West African groceries at its finest
We found everything we were looking for. Somethings were overpriced e.g. yam (compared to HMart). Other things were fairly priced e.g. Palm Butter (compared to Amazon). The shop was quite disorganized and untidy though.
Excellent customer service
African food stuffs @ is best. Great xperience
Great place to get your Africa groceries.
