I LOVE this place... and Id give them more stars if I could! After my visit today and reading some of these reviews I have to offer my experiences here.I have shopped this store off and on over 15 years (if not longer). Since Ive adopted the plant-based way of eating over the past two years, Ive developed a hefty appetite for Indian cuisine... and continue to learn to cook authentic Indian meals on a regular basis.This store has been a beacon of light in helping me to not only find the best, hard to find ingredients, but they have also helped me better understand how to use these ingredients for the best dishes Ive ever eaten in my life!I had an interaction today with one individual who took the time to actually ask if I needed any help... and after letting him know what I was looking for, offered some awesome tips on using these ingredients.Ive never felt or witnessed someone being watched during any of my visits. I will admit there were times when I wasnt immediately approached and asked if they could help. Then again, I never expect it. I do expect to NEVER be approached by anyone in Walmart, Kroger, Food Lion, etc. much less have someone make eye contact with me for fear of having to answer a question!That said, whenever I have asked for help (which is almost every single visit), they are happy to oblige.I encourage anyone in need of special (or not so special) ingredients to just go straight to this location. While its not the closest place for me (Im in downtown Hampton), I always seem to end up finding what I need (and more) when I visit.Its well worth the investment in time to shop here.

You can find lots of spices and Mediterranean and international goods.if you looking something particular highly you can find here. Cool staff and helpful. I found essipecially Turkish foods there some snacks and deserts like a kunefe

We found everything we needed for our recipe. Employees are very helpful. They have halal meat and frozen fish from Bangladesh. They customize our order and are very cooperative. Sometimes they deliver the order according to request. Per se, loved the store and best halal store in the area.

Very good customer service with reasonable price. This is the only store in the neighborhood has soon much verity of collection of products and fresh halal meat. This is a must go for one who lives nearby and seeks fresh quality foods an meat.

My first time and last time shopping here.I was treated less than stellar shopping here.I was not greeted when i walked in,not even a head nod.To make matters worse,not only was i ignored, but the store owners decided to very obviously watch me on their cameras and follow me around the store.As an African American woman,this is unacceptable.I bought some cheap drinks so they wouldnt accuse me of anything and promptly left.I will be shopping with E-Mart from now on.EDIT:In response to the owner,I think in my 30 years on this earth I can differentiate between when I am being closely monitored in a store and when I am not,and when I am received favorably and when I am not.There is no benefit and nothing to gain in me making a false accusation.Of course your employees are going to deny any sort of wrong doing.The fact that you are putting fault on the customer and giving your ill-mannered employees the benefit of the doubt shows me the customer does not come first with this establishment and maybe you would better suited in another line of work.There were 2 gentlemen working that day,One watching the monitor that is present at your counter,the other working the register.Neither bothered to speak to me when I came, and the one at the register watched me closely as i shopped. If you dont agree with my review I suggest better training for your staff.I will also be sharing my concerns with the better business bureau.

The staff are rude, and everything were expired. 2 or 3 weeks ago I got some stuff from this location the owner charge me double, when I ask him why you charge me a double he said sorry I did misunderstand.Mr. owner you’re most welcome and read all comments about your location.Read from mr. chibi Baby mr. Waeel e, and they all said you are rude.

Friendly service, great selection of international foods, ie. Spices, sauces,snacks quality rice fresh veggies and meats and much more!

They guy was so rude to me. I was asking about falafel paste or powder he just said its some where and I have to look around. Then I asked about lamb chops he showed me the rack and I told him I am not sure if its chops or other thing, guess what he said ? He literally told me to go home and come back when I am sure about the name of the item. I confronted him that this is not polite he just replied I dont know english. Shame.

Not good. High price. Very cramped. They keep expired pro, so you need to check the dates before putting it in your cart. But yes you get good good quality Mutton and Chicken.

Rude customer service they are selling Pork instead Halal Meet on this location and the Store is very nasty .this is my first and last shopping on this location.

Nice prices, and a great place to get items for South Asian/ Indian cooking. They have spices, mixes, fresh and frozen meats, produce, etc... They even had very nice fresh curry leaf, which I have been unable to find even in more ethnically diverse areas of Northern Virginia.

This store has a great variety of south Asian grocery items. The meat is of high quality and so is the Seafood. The staff is also extremely helpful.

Staff is always super friendly. The store is ALWAYS well stocked. The big bonus is they carry a delicious candy called Chilli Milli. Yum! Five stars all the way!

I didnt buy anything on this visit, but the products definitely looked like they would bring better flavors to a meal versus the same ingredients at a box store. The gentleman running the register was quite friendly and answered my questions thoroughly. If I want ingredients to try to cook some truly authentic Indian cuisine I will definitely be shopping here.

Excellent local store with lots of Indian Groceries. Clean. Owner very friendly, wants to bring items based on customer interest. Highly recommend! They have a limited supply of ready to eat Samosas on Thursdays and Sundays!

The selection of snacks here were very good. This store is also a great place to buy Indian grocery items.

This is the place to go if you like Indian spices, seasoning, beans, goat meat, hair products and much much more. They also have fresh Samosa at a great price which is absolutely delicious! Sometimes I go there just for the Samosa which is Thursday - Sunday.

This place is for those who understand food and interested in culinary world. Lots of variation of spices. Fresh meat are available always. No gas pressed packaging meat like wall Mart or Sams.

Things are going much better now. Arrif the new owner is trying his best to meet all his customers needs order. Alhamdulillah keep up the good work. Also i ordered a 11 lbs Turkey. And the price was excellent. Get yours soon. Dont miss out on good pricing.

I love this shop. Lots of selections for a curious cook like me to play with. Plus they sell hot food, soda and cigarettes. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Wonderful place. One of the best places in Newport News to get South Asian groceries and goods (with heavy emphasis on Bengali stuff). You can get most of the Indian, pakistani and Bangladeshi snacks, frozen food, spices and sometimes freshly prepared delicacies.Also you can get South Asian fishes and goat meat, which is difficult to find elsewhere in Newport News. The only complain as an Indian is that few of the very basic Indian stuff (e.g. Kissan Jam) is not available. Otherwise very useful store.

Rude customer services

Went in for the second time the owners were very nice and helpful. Wasnt looking for anything in particular, they have quite a few baked goodies like Baklava, the Naan bread was good plus a variety of seasonings, sauces, etc. Busy little store too!

I was very happy to find shop. I always have traveled to a VA Beach India Store, so this store was a welcome find. The staff was helpful in locating Urad Atta flour and the Hing spice that I needed. I tried my only Hindi word “Namaste” 🙏🏼 and got a smile. The register clerk has, repeatedly, been more than happy to assist me even though he spoke at a basic English level. I enjoyed communicating with the staff via our phone pictures to identify the product that I needed. So it was a great memorable experience. I learned something more about the item that I was looking for and other possible selections. I enjoyed communicating with the staff. Every time I leave this store I feel that I learned something new. I am pleased to state that The Kadhi & Pakodas dish that I made was a big hit!

This could be a great halal grocery store. But its lacking in general cleanliness. Lately the fresh meat selection hasnt looked well. Not everyone wears plastic gloves when handling fresh meats and poultry - unless asked to do so. The owner seems to be in surly mood every time Ive visited. The ladies behind the counter are friendly to their regular customers - otherwise more or less mute. Since this is no longer the ONLY halal grocery in the area Im shopping here less and less.

Its really nice place, theyve all fresh Hala meat, prize is very good, also have Asian, middleast, African food n fresh vegetables, get some your as soon as possible dont miss out, customer service is excellent n hospitality

Lot of grocery items are available, such as Bangladeshi, Indian, Middle Eastern, Mexican and various kinds of American foods. Further, a section of Indian clothing are also available in this store. A huge selections for customers are always available. The store is pretty big. My family & I always buy groceries from this store and we are really happy to having this store close to our home.

Im new to this area and went to this store recently, I thought that the store was lacking a lot of different brands, and variety (No everest or Badshah). They definitely have to work on cleanliness as mentioned by other reviewers. Just dont feel like going back there, Im going to opt out for other stores in the area.

Selection is good. Prices are Ok. But there is one person who I think is the owner..He has got to be the worst sales person in the world. No customer service or what so ever. Especially when you are a regular customer who comes there once a week. He really made my experience unpleasant last time. Now I try to get everything I need for 2 weeks in order not to deal with the staff that much. If I have the choice to get halal meat somewhere I would go there even for higher price.

Good selection but I will never go there again!!! The lady (I think the owner) was super rude, arrogant and it‘s quite hard to understand her English. At the checkout she almost yelled at me, saying that I HAVE TO buy more since they only accept cards over a certain amount. I was totally shocked and just left wirhout buying anything. She talked down on me and acted as if I have to beg to buy something from her. What is wrong with that lady??

Its an international grocery store in locality, little overpriced though. But you will get Indian to middle eastern staffs here.You will get Bangladeshi fishes and lamb and goat meats ( probably Halal, not sure ). They sell Baklava and veggie samosa too ! Baklavas are okay, samosa is not worth for .99c.

You find every HALAL food and stuff ... but some of the staff need to be more friendlyand more professional ...
