I used to come here on a weekly basis. This location is on their 3rd owner, I believe. This team doesnβt do it for me. I always order either jjamppong or spicy galbitang when eating at a Korean restaurant. This time I ordered some tteokbokki to go and it was good. However, the above named soups donβt even compare to some of the other gems π Iβve recently found.
Best Korean food I have had in awhile. Had the yaki Mandi, kimbap, and chicken bulgogi and all were delicious. The kimbap tasted like I was back in Korea again. Highly recommend this place. So glad its close to my home
Have been going here for years. Best bolgogi and favorite Korean restaurant.
Excellent food and service. We enjoyed our meal and have never had a bad meal here. Server accidentally spilled a water glass and even that was handled so well that I must compliment her. She was embarrassed but it was just that, an accident. We will be back very soon.
Tteokbokki is the bomb!!! its hot, spicy, rice cakes taste fresh, sauce is very flavorful, plenty to share... all their kimchi is yummy. the mandu soup in beef broth is yummy.. galbi is sooo good.. i love this place!
Delicious mandu, lunch Bulgogi was tasty but not what I was used to. I needed onions in it and more sauce. But I will try their Bulgogi another time. The one with the hot stove in front of you. The place is very cute. Smells like a Korean grandparents house. Overall I am happy with my experience and will come back again and again.
Good food. Get more sides when you dine in. Chicken breast thinner than years on bulgogi order.
I love this place. Its by far the best Korean Restaurant in the area. Food was fresh and just delicious!
Food is always fantastic whenever I eat there. 10/10 would recommend.
Great food! Wife and kids even loved it. Very authentic would highly recommend
Had a SUPERB dinner here while on business. The waitress was delightful and attentive, and the food was phenomenal. I ordered the Bulgogi (Beef strips with rice) and Mandu (Dumplings) as an appetizer. As a newcomer to Korean cuisine, this was a truly outstanding experience on all fronts.
My husband thinks its the best Korean food since he ate in Korea.
Absolutly love the food!!! Best Ive had in VA!! My daughter and I go at least every 2 weeks!! Owner is wonderful, as is the service!!
Great service. The wait staff is attentive, patient, and kind.Incredible food. If youre interested in trying something new and experiencing a different culture, this is the perfect place to come. They bring you a sample platter of sides which allows you to try a variety of things in one sitting.Despite the large amount of food you get in one order, the service is speedy and the food is well presented. Its a little small and in an old building (so the restrooms are uncomfortable and the atmosphere certainly isnt that of a five star diner), but thats the only thing I could think that you might dislike. Overall, lovely little place for good Korean food.
This restaurant is one of the best Korean restaurants in the 7 cities! My family TRULY enjoyed all the original Korean side dishes that come with the spicy pork bulgogi. We love all the different kimchi and the prices are descent considering most Korean restaurants are pricey anyway. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT!
My mom & I been coming here for years. The dishes are amazing. The black bean noodles with kimbap is the best ever.
Food was fabulous!!! I wish it was closer, we would probably eat there at least a couple of times a week! Service was awesome too!
Im definitely coming back. OMG! So yummy!
Great staff, great food, very reasonable prices. Very authentic.
I love their fried dumplings and beef bulgogi
One of the better Korean restaurants with amazing authentic food. Almost as good as my grandmothers bulgogi
Best shrimp fried rice in the world
Authentic, excellent food, large portions. Recommend
Love this place. Some of the best Korean food around.
Our favorite Korean restaurant and it IS open on Sundays!
I have been going here for 20 years nowI highly recommend this place the food is amazing and the owner is phenomenal as well and highly cares about the quality of the food and tasteI have always felt that for ethnic foods in the area this place sets itself apart from the rest
You cant get better Korean food than them. Their bulgogi is tender and well seasoned. The kimbap is fresh every time, with Mother in law sauce as a wonderful condiment.
A good lunch spot for a quick bite to eat. The pickled sides were delicious as was the bento box that I ordered. The main protein was beef bulgogi which was a larger portion than comparable other restaurants which worked out as I was pretty hungry The staff was friendly and the food was average for the area.
Delicious, great customer service the day I was there. I will definitely go back!
Really good food, and the staff were very friendly. The furniture was very dated, in need of replacement, and even with COVID restrictions we felt crowded in and cramped. Also, it annoyed me they let their liquor license lapse. Not an awful Experiance, but there is room for improvement.
The best and one of the first Korean restaurants on the peninsula. There beef bulgogi is savory and tender. They serve traditional Korean vegetables like kimchi, bean sprouts, radish, and cucumbers. My Korean is not that good so I do not know the correct Korean names. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great Korean food. You have to try their staple fried Mandu.
Really good my wife & I have been going there since 1993.
The food and service is great pricing is 2$ I highly recommend this place for you lunch or dinner they are closed on Tuesday.
Great Korean food! The service was very good. Love going there. The only complaint was that the temperature inside the Restaurant was very cold. They needed to turn up the thermostat setting to bearible.
My first time trying this place and EVERYTHING that we ordered tasted very well! The spicy bulgogi was my favorite. The spice in the kimchi was AMAZING! I will be a repeat customer very soon!
Quality and Quantity all in one! The food was really good. They even put on Cartoons for my 1 yr old, which allowed him to be more calm and comfortable
Great Experience with Awesome Service...
There is no better Korean food on the peninsula. I have been going here for over a decade. I have tried some of the others and while the others arent bad, they just dont measure up to the bar set by Kyung Sung.
This is very good HIGHLY RECOMMEND and the owner is niceππ
Sorry - its okay. Just average. Filled a need the night I got there, but honestly another place around is a lot better.
The waitress there was terribly rude. Waited for my food for over 40 minutes when there where hardly anyone there! I will stay clear from this place from now on!
Always good food when i go to eat there. The service is always great.
Was in town on business and stopped in to pick up dinner for takeout, got the beef and broccoli teriyaki with some dumplings (I dont remember what they are called), everything was wonderful, I will absolutely dine here again if I am ever back this way, definitely recommend, five stars and two thumbs up
Great food no alcohol allowed staff very nice
Theyve changed owners countless times over the years but the food is always good.
I have reviewed a few different Korean places for Google, but this was our best experience at one BY FAR. My wife had the Kyung Sung Lunch special with fried rice and barbecue grilled chicken, served with Mapu crispy fried dumplings. I had the beef bibimbap, which is steamed rice, a fried egg, Korean vegetables, and bulgogi barbecue beef. We also had the Kimbap, which is similar to maki sushi rolls-- seaweed wrapped around pickled carrots, oshiniko root vegetables, tomgo egg cake, sticky rice, and more of that delicious bulgogi beef barbecue. We ate the kimbap too fast to snap a pic of it, it was that good. As for the rest of the spread, which was served to us in about 7 minutes, make your own conclusions. All I know is that we ate everything you see in the pic.Extra bonus: I like food spicy. Our waitress brought out a bottle of house-made bokugjang, a traditional Korean table condiment made of fermented chili peppers, garlic, salt, sugar, and caramelized soy extract. Then she brought out a little dish of what looked like Harisa, but was definitely NOT Morroccan hot condiment. Whatever. I made a mixture of the hot chili paste, the bikugjang, and some white vinegar which was next to the soy sauce on the table. It was probably the best make it yourself spicy condiment Ive ever gotten to enjoy! As for the pickled kimchi and other vegetables in the middle-right of the frame-- we ate all of that too. No shame in the game! This place is amazing! Eat here!
I ordered the double bagogi and they brought it out in something like a hot pot. The food was great
Food was great and the waitress was beautiful :)
Favorite Korean restaurant in Hampton Roads
I had been going here for over 30 years, my kids grew up going there and as adults they had continued going. We lived in Chesapeake (O still do)and would travel specifically to go to this restaurant. However the service has gone down and my last 2 instances left a bad taste in my mouth and as a family we have decided to stop patronizing this establishment.I will try and make it short and sweet..1. I came over from Chesapeake this past September and ordered a dinner (my favorite gal bee, I usually will order gim bab and/or fried man doo also but since it was just me I decided not to). I paid with my cc and waited for my meal. When it was ready I asked for one of the hot paste that comes in a one ounce cup. The lady said its only free if you order an appetizer otherwise its 50 cents. I just spent almost $25 on one dinner and you couldnt give me one little condiment...I thought to myself. I would have paid had I not already paid and I didnt have any cash on me at the moment. But it really bothered me that she just didnt give me one and tell me next time it will be 50 cent.It was the principle of the thing. I was upset but I was still going to go back. However the straw that brought the camels back... My daughter was in town visiting from Alexandria, VA and was leaving that evening. We decided to go to our favorite Korean restaurant. So my son came down from Richmond to met us at the restaurant as well. My daughter checked their website to make sure they were still open and if there were any stipulations with the covid. We get over there at 250pm. I go inside to get a table and wait for my kids to come in, the lady tells me the restaurant closes at 3pm until 4pm for cleaning and stops taking orders at 245pm, so I am 5 minutes too late. I walked out then my daughter goes in. She explains that we drove all the way out there to eat and there wasnt anything listed on their website about the closure. My daughter even asked if we could at least order take out. The lady told my daughter no and Im not going to keep going back and forth with you. My daughter said fine you lost a customer that has been coming for over 30 years and all the lady said was ok.It sadness me to say....a long time tradition gone! ( my exhubby first took me there in 1983 when I came to visit him while I was still living in NY)..smh
Its a Korean restaurant with a following in an area with no shortage of Korean restaurants. I think the seafood pancake alone is worth a visit. It was packed with squid and the lighter, airier than usual batter made for the most crispy pancake. A nice surprise. The basics are done right. I loved that the entrees and rice were served way too hot;
Good service and delicious flavor.
Amazing food! So good I do recommend this place. The chef, she is really nice
A real hidden gem! Always have good food and pleasant customer service. Its a small but cozy location. The Kimchi Jjigae is a delicious favorite of mine
Me and my family have been coming here since 1984-- the customer service has gone down. We will never come back here ever again.
SO good. Very surprised, great service and had no complaints.
Two words...chicken bulgogi. And get it with option C.
Customer service was alright. But I expected more out of the food quality. The beef was not really good, the side food tasted good but the actual beef soup with bean curd and the kim bap did not really meet my expectation as I expected it to be. They definitely need to work better on their food quality of their meat choice wherever they get from as well as how they cook it.
Authentic Korean meal experience. Im so glad to have found this hidden gem! The place is clean, the food is incredible, and the menu choices are just enough without being overwhelming.
Weβve always loved their bulgolgi, particularly the spicy pork, and their fried mandu which is delicious! Today I tried their wonton soup as well, and I have to say Iβll be ordering that from now on! I called to tell them how tasty the broth is and was informed all of their soups are made from scratch using bone marrow broth; I canβt wait to have it again! Highly recommend!!
Great food. Owber worker her way from waitressing to owning
One of the best Korean restaurants in the Hampton Area and there red sauce is to die for
Everything is always great. Food is so good. We go at least 3 times a month. Love this place β€οΈ
No where near great Korean bbq
Great food. Great wait staff. Its getting more popular so you may want to get there earlier.
Absolutely delicious, best japchae Ive had in the area
Great food and always consistant.Nice friendly people.
A very friendly place. The food was amazing I usually have to season my meal, but this time I didnt have to.
Great lunch. Everything was made in house.
The best Korean food in the area
Always a delightful place for dinner. We tried the Kimchi Pancake for our appetizer this time and it was delicious! Definitely adding it to our list of favorites.
Small family run spot. Pretty good Korean food. Feels authentic. Nothing fancy. Id go back. Be careful parking around back at night. Not the greatest of areas.
Best Korean food around.
Kyung Sung has been my favorite Korean restaurant ever since I returned from S. Korea years ago. I take visiting friends and family there. I only wish it was open right now.
Good food
Amazing food, and very friendly staff members. Thank you!
One of my favorite places to eat. I try to go once a week for my diverse food fix. Granted I get the same thing Everytime...but its what I like! Also, I experienced their grill at the table service in Japan and thats fun to do as well. Unfortunately I havent found many restaurants that I like here, so I really appreciate this place. Although, Id prefer that they give me the option of having the same sides that you get when eating in for take out as well. Thats why I only rated with 4 stars. Good food and service like a restaurant should aspire to have otherwise! Also, I dont approve of the lack of sufficient wait staff support at times.
Real Korean cuisine. Good spicy pork bulgogi with fried meat dumplings. Side dishes are also tasty. Good service. I will enjoy going there during my stay in Newport News.
So originally prepared...!!!
The food was amazing for the first time I went there. Planning to make a monthly thing.
Family run restaurant. No frills. Always enjoyed my dining experience at Kyung Sung Restaurant. Enjoy !
Ive been going to this place for years. I love it! The food is really tasty and a good selection between spicy and non spicy. No matter your spicy tolerance youll find something. I highly recommend it.
Great service with kind staff, and amazing food!!
One of the best Korean Restaurants in town. Kyung Sung prices matches its authenticity. Its a little in the high end but the quality is remarkable. Definitely put this on the list for foodies in Newport New, VA
My favorite Korean food in the local area. We have been here many times and never disappointed. Prices are perhaps a little high but their food is very good. I recommend the spicy beef bulgogi.
Best Korean restaurant Ive tasted ever
Amazing food and excellent service
What a fabulous time we had.. Their service was exceptional.. Food was great, service was great. We will definitely be back and let everyone know about this place..
I couldnt complain if I wanted to. Soooo yummy.
I love this place.. Been eating here since I was a kid
Absolutely the best Korean food served anywhere!
Great Korean food. It is a little expensive but you will always have leftovers. I remember coming here as a kid. The style and taste has changed a bit, but the food is never disappointing.
I have been eating here for over 20years hands down the best Korean food I have ever had. They have tables set up for barbeque and the prices are not bad. I recommend going at lunch for the lunch special if its your first time.
Amazing authentic Korean food
