I was in your store last week shopping for a hand held blower. David waited on me and and answered all my questions with patient and professionally. He showed me several blowers until I found one I could handle comfortably.
We took our 20-year-old Stihl chain saw in to get a new chain, spark plug and gas. Wayne made us feel at home. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and even changed our fuel filter. They had all our parts in stock and answered all our questions. Would highly recommend.
UPDATE….about 30 minutes after posting the review below I got a call from Steve at L&C letting me know that my mower was ready. He was very apologetic about the delays and explained that COVID was impacting their parts supply chain. He did give me a bit of a discount on the bill for my troubles. In the end I got my mower back albeit a little delayed. Nice guys at the shop I just wished they would have communicated a little better.Bought a Honda mower from the NN store a little over 3 years ago. Paid a little more than big box store but was told buying from L&C would make a difference if I ever needed service. 17 days ago I dropped off my mower because the self propelled was slipping. Instruction them to review and advise ( and also sharpen blades & general tune up while they had it). A week went by…no call so I called them. Was told that parts had to be ordered. They weren’t sure when they would be in but “probably “ be done by following Friday. Friday came….no call so I called them again. Parts came in but it wasn’t ready but would “probably “ be ready Monday or Tuesday latest. Today is Tuesday…no call so I called them. Still not ready and they are not sure when it will be ready. Very frustrating to not be able to get a straight answer!!!
Super impressed with this store after having a horrible experience with Cub Cadet in Yorktown. Was treated with respect by Dave. He explained everything about the lawnmower I purchased unlike the sales associate at Cub Cadet which treated me like I had never worked with a lawnmower before.

Of course the day that you lose power is the day that you realize that your portable generator isn’t working well enough to provide power to the 120 V outlets on it. Called Land & Coates, explained to them what was going on, and they told me to bring it in. I was in and out of there in less than 20 min with a new carburetor and a perfectly working generator! Awesome customer service! Thank you!

Good selection. Not many places have tree climbing equipment. They have a good base setup. The dude Dave up there always hooks it up and helps me out.
I recently purchased a new Honda lawn mower and had a great experience with the Jefferson Avenue location staff. They had exactly what I was looking for in stock. While there, they were very helpful and quickly took care of everything I needed. I appreciated their honest advice and recommendation on extended service plan. As for the lawn mower itself, I replaced 16 year old model (which still worked great) with the newer electric start model and after the first use, Im very happy with the quality and operation. I think Honda mowers are some of the best on the market.

I have never experienced such poor customer service on a consistent basis. The service department will tell you that something like a routine oil change will take a few hours, but they keep your equipment for DAYS!
Outstanding customer service every time I come in the store. I currently maintain a compliment of 15 Stihl chainsaws, some of them are over 20 years old. If they dont have the parts, ordering them is quick and I have them within a week. When I encounter a problem that is outside my knowledge base, the technicians always are willing to give advice on repairs. I was there today and they showed me how to properly install parts I had ordered. I have been using this store for years, and have never had anything but excellent service.

Number 1 in service. I went in looking for a new mower because I just moved and needed something to take care of my new yard. The sales associate, I think his name was Cameron, took the time to listen to what I had and recommended a couple different options to maintain my new yard. Wasnt pushy just asked what I needed and provided me different solutions at different costs with the reasoning why. Even if I would have never mowed grass before I would have felt comfortable and purchasing a mower and using it. Highly recommend to others!
Bought a brand new saw their broke within 3 days took over 3 months to get it fixed They would not replace it. Northern will I go there now.
Poor customer service
Experienced excellent customer service at Jefferson av/richneck rd Newport News location. Walked in the door and explained my problem. With a few helpful hints was on my way at no cost to me. Definitely would recommend them to friends and family.
We walked in just before closing because the traffic light skipped us repeatedly. Right away they got us what we needed and answered all of our questions without getting upset about us holding them up from closing. They were really nice and knowledgeable.
Expect to pay 35 dollars for them even touching your mower. and expect them to total it. they want you to buy their mowerswhich are REALLY expensive, no thanks take your mower and your money somewhere else!

Normally I love coming here but they lost a sale to day. It seems like if your not spending a lot of money than on to the next one that is. Was trying to by a new mower but customer service was not the best today. I still like this place but need to fix a few things with out the customer than there would be no land n coats just something to think about. This location not a Kubota active dealer,, they carry Hustler and Toro. No brochures at dealer.
Good looking equipment, but you need to speak with your folks who bring the mowers in around 4:00 to be aware that people watch them and how they treat your products, because one of your employees operating one of the yellow standing deck mowers was doing a wheelie for possible buyers to see, I saw it and it did not represent well for your company.
I go into this location frequently and have never been disappointed by the service I receive. The staff is always ready and capable to help on any questions I may have. Thank you for always being there when I needed knowledgeable advise for the industry.
I took in my Stihl gas trimmer because it was very sluggish. The technician took one look at it and said I see why. Less than 10 minutes later my trimmer was running like new. Land & Coates delivers exceptional service. I highly recommend them for sales and servicing your equipment.
I recently purchased a 54in Raptor SD and I am extremely happy with the machine and the service I recieved. There was a problem with them having to special order my mower but manager went out of his way to make sure I got the exact model and engine I wanted and even threw in a few upgrades for free for the trouble. I will definitely be returning again soon.

I recently took my Stihl chainsaw to the Jefferson Ave. location because the chain wouldnt turn. Dave Mastle and the service technician immediately saw that it was a simple problem and fixed it on the spot. I was out the door within 10 minutes with the chainsaw working like new. And they didnt charge me anything! Dave was friendly and helpful. I would recommend this store for your service needs.
Late last year I bought a blower and weed trimmer. Well after the first couple of uses I started having and should have taken it in for service then but put it off. Of this year it got to the point where it would not even start. Took it in an the initial estimate was almost as much as the sale price. I complained that it was not even a year old and almost a total loss. Long story short, the sales department fixed it at no charge! Im a customer for life!

Called Cameron looking for an Armature for a 6.75HP B&G motor on a Troy Bilt Generator. He helped me work through finding the right series of numbers B&G has assigned to each engine. OBTW, the location of the series of numbers is not very easy, unless you know first, what to look for, then, second know where to look. Cameron was awesome. He found the part number and then to top it off, he had the part in stock. This was all on a Saturday about 10 minutes before they closed. I bought the part over the phone and then he made arrangements for me to pickup the part after hours. Super CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Highly recommend using Land and Coates for your B&G small engine needs. Cameron, great job and thanks. Jim
Cameron and the guys here really came to the rescue for us today. Not only did they fix our issue right then and there, they made sure we knew how to fix the problem ourselves if it happened again. We will definitely be taking more of our business there in the furure.
Went in for a couple of carburetor gaskets and was immediately grilled as to the part numbers. When I said that I didn t know that but knew the type of engine I was asked again for the part numbers. I told him that I thought that s what he was there for, then he asked me what the engine number was. He was trying very hard to make me feel stupid and actually called me a novice. I left with a carburetor rebuild kit and looked at my receipt and found a LABOR charge for $8.50 for .1133 hours. I guess I had to pay extra for the privilege of being talked to condescendingly. I had to get verbally annoyed with him for him to talk to me like a real person instead of someone who was wasting his time. I was very angry when I left and will never go back. Apparently you have to be a professional small engine repairer for them to sell you anything. Save your money and aggravation and go elsewhere.
Didn’t have the model number or anything for my generator because Briggs and Stratton decide to use a barcode reader code. Brought in my pull starter and they matched the part off their current inventory. Thanks guys!
My Stihl hedge trimmer was not working properly and I needed it fixed quickly. I took it to Land and Coates to have it fixed. Expecting to have to leave my hedger, Dave Smithers looked at it and said he was almost certain he knew what was causing the problem. He took off the muffler, cleaned it, reinstalled it and it works like new. To top it off he didn’t charge me for the fix. Thanks for the quick fix Dave.

Great deal on blower
Today I visited Lands and Coates in Newport News. I was helped right away by Tom! He is the greatest man alive!!! I went in to the store to purchase a Stihl weed eater and an extendable saw to cut limbs off a tree close to my house. Tom took the time to show me different items while explaining their functions! He recommended 2 pieces of equipment, which I purchased.What I really liked is that he started each one up and also took the time to show me how to operate the equipment once I got them home. Kudos to you!! No other store would take the time to do this especially being so busy preparing for the upcoming storm. After the items were purchased he loaded them in my Suburban. I received top notch service from Tom as well as the rest of the salesman. I am a happy camper and will recommend Lands and Coates to all my family, friends and neighbors! On 8/1/2016 I took my Stihl chainsaw in. I could not get it started. They took it back in the shop and had it running in less than 5 minutes. They explained that it was just flooded and explained what to do and not to do next time. They didnt charge me a dime. You cant beat service like that!!! Thank you so very much Andy Kokoruda. I highly recommend them if you need anything with sales or service.
