The best hobby shop Ive ever seen (Ive been in this hobby 52 years and lived all over the world), with the most unique and rare subjects represented. I was honored to have known Dan and his sons since 2007 and his modeling expertise and persona was the best and is continued to this day expertly by his son. If theres a model that you cant find, then Denbigh Hobby will most likely be able to find it for you. My personal feeling is if they cant track a certain model down then it probably doesnt exist! Please everyone in the hobby community, keep supporting this wonderful establishment as many of the retail hobby stores have given way to online shopping. This store retains the fun and personable touch unavailable on the net.

Great little hobby shop! Lots of plastic model kits. Has nice selection of HO Train stuff, some N scale. Had a small amount of American Flyer, Marx and Lionel. Owner willing to barter on used pieces. Will revisit when in area!

This is by far the best hobby store in the area if youre a builder. Large selection of models, train and supplies. The owner is a really cool guy! Took over the business from his dad recently. He can order most items and have them in store with in a few days! Check this place out of you like to build complete plastic model kits!

The first time I entered this shop I was transported back over 50 years ago when a hobby store was a magical place and I could spend hours looking at the kits and dreaming of how much fun I would have building them.  I told my Dad I would need some tube glue, bottles of paint and a paintbrush and a spray can of paint, so could I have an advance on my allowance.  He smiled and said I better do a good job.  I did my best and he always complimented me.Time went by and modeling took a back seat to life.  Many years later I thought I would take up the hobby again, but prices had gone sky high and the brick and mortar stores were fast disappearing.  Yes, you could buy almost anything online but it just wasnt the same.  Then about 12 years ago I moved to Newport News, for work.  i looked online and in addition to the usual Hobbytown was Denbigh Hobby Center, open for only a few days a week.  I traveled to the store on one of the designated open days and thats when I traveled back in time to the hobby shops of old - it even smelled the same.  The owner was busy with another customer so I happily roamed the aisles. Completing the time warp were dozens of completed aircraft hanging from the ceiling, built by the owner.  I finally got to talk to the owner Dan and he and I spent the next half hour or so reminiscing about the old Revell, Monogram, and Aurora kits you could buy for a buck or two, as well as the new kits.I stopped in the shop whenever I got a chance and we always had a good time talking away. Dan admitted that most new kits were far ahead of the the old ones but you had to pay for all that accuracy and it was hard for him to remain competitive with the online stores.  I told him the time we spent reliving the good old days was well worth it, I bought a kit and I hoped he could remain open as long as he could.I became very busy at work at Jefferson Lab for quite some time and didnt visit the store for several years.  I checked online for the days and times they were now open and I sadly learned that Dan had passed away. Even though we didnt spend that much time conversing with each other I considered him a friend and kindred spirit and news of his passing was a source of great sorrow.  I read where his son has now taken over the store and i wish him much luck and hope to visit the store soon.  He can be very proud of his father who kept the wonderful hobby of modeling alive as well as he could.  i hope Dans aircraft models hanging on strings from the ceiling are there for many years to come.  God bless you Dan, and thank you.

Both proprietors have a wealth of knowledge. Theyre always very helpful and when Ive been looking for a hard to find kit, theyve been willing to go the extra mile to help me find it. The entire ceiling of the shop is covered in the proprietors builds, and they are beautiful.

This place is amazing. The owner is very, very friendly with amazing service. He is a wizard in model kits! The shop also has one of the largest collection of kits I have ever seen. Only one downside is the amount of time the shop is open, but if you plan your visit between 12-5 on Wednesday to Saturdays then there will be no problem. Like I said this is a must visit model kit/hobby shop!

The hobby shop has a huge selection of most genres you’re interested in. If you approach the owner and the fellow working with him they are as friendly as you could hope for. Very knowledgeable and talkative. The store has many old kits that are hard to find. Lots of tools and paints. Very good selection.RC cars and balsa are sold down the street in spades by Hobby Town, so it’s unfair to complain that this store doesn’t carry that mess. He doesn’t need to carry them, it’s a plastic model shop, that’s what they sell.Store hours are 12 to 5 Tuesday through Saturday.Very good shop for locals and out of town visitors as well. Do yourself a favor and go visit it and actually talk to the gentlemen running it.

Best selection of modelling supplies and model kits. An amazing array for such a small shop. Ive found many model kits I couldnt find anywhere else. The gentleman who owns and run the shop is very helpful if youll let him know what you are looking for. If you are in the Tidewater area and into model building, this is one store you should definitely check out.

Very nice shop exclusively for Plastic Models of just about anything you can imagine. There are a large number of completed models hanging from the ceiling and on display around the showroom. The proprietors are helpful and friendly. If you want some unique plastic models to showcase, this is the place to go. They also have paint/glue/tools/materials required for any modeling project.

I cant really review it, because every time Im in town its closed. I live out of state, but have been in that area a number of times on vacation. But whenever I go out of my way to look them up, its closed. No matter what day of the week Ive gone. This has happened probably a half dozen times over the last 7 or 8 years. And it seems to be a run-down, bad neighborhood. I give up. Its not worth the side trip to keep trying.

Great model shop! It has a very nice selection from aircraft and armor to ships and supplies. I frequently see some of the latest kits being stocked when ever I go in. The owner is very nice, eager to help with advice, and importantly a model builder as well. When Ive had to order a model through this store, and its available, I can usually expect it to come Friday if I order it there Wednesday the same week! Im not a train builder or a sci-fi builder but Ive seen some of each when I go in. Sadly, this is the last real model shop left in the Hampton roads area as far as I know. I wish there were more like it.

This place really is only good for getting plastic kits for airplane/train models. They dont offer much in the way of RC or balsa kits. Nor do they have very many supplies. The one tube of glue I bought there was so old that it was partially cured. I honestly dont know how they stay in business.

Great selection of new and out of production kits. Customer service? These guys never heard of it.....unless you are a known local. If youre just in town for a day or so, dont waste your time. You are better off shopping online and scouting eBay for out of production stuff. Pretty sad when you go into a shop and you are only acknowledged when they need your money. No wonder the hobby is dying!!! I dont feel much pity for hobby shops such as this!!

THE BEST vintage train store in Hampton Roads!! The owner is the kindest man that you will ever meet and has the train knowledge of a wizzard. These kind of stores are a dying breed and Im so thankful that places like this still exists. He has vintage things that you wont find anywhere .... including EBay. Keep it going Mr Hobby Man
