John was extremely helpful and hooked me up with the right gear to make my new bike comfortable and safe. He answered all my questions and got the bike ready to ride immediately. 10/10 would definitely recommend this shop.

4/8/21.. I did not realize that the service dept. was really booked up and that I needed an appointment to get two new tires installed. However, Jessy snuck me in and had two new tires on my bike in 15 minutes. Other local bike shops just have you leave a vm to set up an appt. and they never call back. Harris staff are friendly and professional.. totally recommend

I am rehabbing a 1972 Raleigh Grand Prix. The original wheels are shot so I emailed Harris Cyclery asking for recommendation about wheel set and freewheel replacement. Tom responded back to me within an hour. Several emails and recommendations later I paced my order. Mistakenly only ordered 1 inner tube and 1 roll of rim tape. Tom got back to me within minutes pointing this out. I was busy and didn’t pick his reply up for a few hours but placed another order that afternoon. They shipped everything together that afternoon and I received it the next day in N.J. Customer service was outstanding through the whole process. Harris will now be my go to bicycle shop for parts and tools. I’ll be started the rehab of my wife’s 1975 Grand Prix shortly.Thank you Harris Cyclery and Tom Quinn

Personalized and Personable Service! As a newbie cyclist I bought a road bike there two years ago and recently brought my bike in for tune up and minor repairs. Both times I was greeted immediately and courteously by the owner Jon Harris and could not have more personalized attention. I was never condescended to because of my age or gender or made to feel intimidated by my lack of riding experience. After the recent stay at home order was issued and local businesses closed I worried that I would never get my bike back, but I received a phone call and my bike was delivered to me curbside, safely scrubbed and ready to ride. We should all support this truly wonderful bike shop and local business.

Just brought my bike in for a broken chain. Jimmy came out when I arrived, fixed the chain, and wouldn’t take any money for it. Little things like this make such a big difference and really show the character of the store. I will definitely buy my next bike from Harris

It took them 4 repairs to fix my front flat. I was without my bike (which I use for my commute) for almost two months because I was going back and forth picking up and dropping off my bike after every time I rode it. They called me a liar and denied that Id been in as frequently as I had been when I complained. They charged me all but one time, when the kind guy who seems to run the shop intervened. I used to love this shop.Leaving this at 2 stars so I can drop it to 1 when I discover their repair did nothing again.

My 3 year old Grandson required a helmet. The service was outstanding. Heather, who ranks 7th in the world in mountain biking fitted him so very carefully while making my grandson very secure and comfortable. Mr. Harris, the owner of this family store that has been there for decades, also checked out the fitting. The family is so very reassured and grateful that our grandson was so well taken care of .

June is a super busy time for bike repairs, and Harris Cyclery still managed to see my bike right away, take apart the rear cogs, fix the issue, and put everything back together in about 15 minutes.Super reasonable price-wise too. Ive been to a few shops in the area, and HC is by far the best! Jim, thank you so much for your help.

I never really cared for bikes until recently. I brought my bike here to get my rear wheel tired changed as it was punctured. Although the bike shop is a little busy and may not greet you as you enter, they are extremely polite and nice. In fact, they were nice enough to teach me how to change the wheel, give me some advice regarding my bike and even some general bike checking and purchasing advice. It was $18 to get the inner tube of the tire changed but with the service and the education, it was worth it. Will definitely be coming back here when they host bike repair lessons and all the bike work I need.

Harris Cyclery is my shop of choice when I cant find a part locally, which is getting to be a more common occurrence. You want generators, toe clips, platform pedals? Theyve got em! And theyve been more helpful on spokes for wheel building than either my local bike shops (Northern Virginia) or certain catalog stores whom I wont name.

Online ordering: There is very good online information about available bicycle parts, and good selection. The Sheldon Brown technical descriptions are really useful to understand what to look for. Once ordered, the delivered items were exactly as described, with great delivery speed and full tracking information. Very professional.

Went to Harris Cyclery over the weekend looking for a solid commuter bike that I could use to get around the city. They had a great selection of bikes in my price range ($350-$500), especially considering that they were in the process of preparing to stock next seasons bikes. I hadnt purchased a bike since I was a kid, so it felt great to work with a staff that was knowledgeable and committed to finding me a bike that I could afford and feel comfortable on. Theyll let you test any bike in the store without hassle, which is important for anyone making this type of purchase. Most important, the people are friendly, patient, and they make you feel like a valued customer. I spent most of my time with Sonny (who I think is the owner), who made the entire experience easy and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend Harris Cyclery to anyone, but especially people like me who might need a little assistance choosing the right bike.

My wife and I are regular bicyclists who log thousands of miles a year. I regularly drive 20 miles each way to buy cycling parts from Harris Cyclery. Yes, I know, I should bicycle. but its just a little too long a cycle trip for shopping!I have bought several cycles at Harris and re-outfitted many other older cycles that I bought used from parts I bought at Harris.. This shop has parts no one else has, and staff that know everything about parts.. Most important, they are always willing to help breathe new life into an old frame. I really appreciate that -- unlike almost all other stores -- sales staff dont automatically try to push me into buying a new bike when I bring in some old relic I want to rejuvenate. The shop staff understand sentimental and historical value of old bikes, and are quite resourceful in helping me make old relics rideable again. As an amateur mechanic, I also really appreciate that the staff are willing to collaborate with me in doing some of the few things I cant do to a bike in my home shop, e.g., headset seating or bottom bracket facing. They dont automatically try to sell me a full rebuild. In short, this is a shop that goes out of its way to understand what you need and provide it cheerfully and precisely. The sales staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and the mechanics are expert. You cant go wrong buying from them.

I am new to the area, came to the shop to check them out and ask about bike tuning. I must point out that I am a very friendly person, come in, smiling, nice and all, not as if I am acting like a jerk. But I guess I was not as lucky as others reviewers, as I did not think anyone was friendly or eager to help a potential new regular client. At 1pm on a weekday, the shop was empty, only employees. No hello, no welcome forget about a friendly smile. Just a matter of fact, felt like I was at an RMV or some other state run enterprise. Yes they asked me what I wanted, but the response, the explanation felt like they could care less for my business and I was just interrupting their day. Interestingly enough there is a sky and bike shop literally a block away, not as nice looking, not as much inventory - but what a great, friendly, welcoming environment. I visited both on the same day, and while I liked Harris just looking in, I left very disappointed and surprised. Definitely will bring my business to Centre Ski and Bike.

To me Harris Cyclery is the essence of all a bike shop should be. They are focused on assisting you with what you are trying to accomplish - not just trying to sell you stuff. They are expert in the repair and maintenance of bicycles of almost any age - with a particularly rare expertise in the maintenance or repair of vintage bicycles - and no matter what beauty or monstrosity you wheel through the door, they treat every bike with professionalism and respect (unlike most other bike shops who seem to look down their noses at anything less than the most recent fancy gear). In stock they have a broad range of top notch equipment (you wont be left high and dry if you have your heart set on something in particular) and they provide thoughtful advice on what to use. Many a time I have walked into the store thinking I wanted to purchase a more expensive version of a particular part and upon discussion with the folks there have been steered toward something equally effective but less expensive. The folks here are really great - knowledgeable, honest, thoughtful, enthusiastic. I love this place. This shop is a treasure.

I got the same service like every other person who gave this business a less than stellar review. When I came in to pick up my bike, they bashed all of the things that I did to put the bike together in a very condescending way. That isnt the way to deal with CUSTOMERS. Needless to say, NEVER coming back to this business.

I ordered 2 tires and 4 tubes from Harris Cyclery on the 13th. Today is the 17th and I have not gotten any shipping confirmation. I called them and they said they didnt have the part in stock and wouldnt receive them until the 19th. Then they would still have to ship it to me and would take 4 days. They didnt make this clear at any time during ordering or check out. I wasted my time with this outfit! Not going to order from them again. I canceled my order.

Harris really nails the spirit of cycling. I first came there six years ago to buy a cyclocross bike. I came away with a comfortable bike that took me all over Boston--a Jamis Aurora. Harris cheerfully swapped out several parts to make things easier: slighly lower gears and a different stem. When I came in that fall and wanted to try cyclocross racing, the folks at Harris found me some cyclocross tires that they didnt normally stock, and told me a bit about cross racing in the area. The mechanic to help me was on the Rapha cycling team--didnt know until much later. Very unassuming and friendly. When I wanted to learn how to build wheels, Harris helped me out with the parts I needed. They special-ordered rims, calculated spoke lengths, and took me into their stockroom to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. They didnt care that I was using some hubs from eBay, or that I wasnt a professional mechanic. Instead, they welcomed me to the wheelbuilding fraternity. Ive since built six more wheels using parts Ive purchased from Harris. In every case, the staff helped with what I needed, and has gotten spoke calculations spot-on.When I wanted to try fixed-gear riding, Harris helped me fill the remaining gaps in my parts list, helped me respace my hub to fit my frame, and made sure I knew what I was doing with the parts Id bought. Harris has helped me with tricky repairs, like shortening a steerer tube and rethreading my crankarm. They know what theyre doing. Finally, I need to mention Harriss website. For a long time, Sheldon Brown was one of Harris mechanics. In the early days of the Web, he put together a comprehensive set of articles on just about any sort of bicycle topic you care to mention. From the minutiae of internal-gear hubs to how to start children riding, it was there, and part of Harris website. Mr. Browns no longer with us, but his compendium is still here. Its quite possibly the best cycling website in the world.Support Harris Cyclery. Theyre kind, knowledgeable, and treat cyclists of all levels equally. Theyll do the same for you. And afterwards, you can go get barbecue from Blue Ribbon!
