Hands down one of the best natural hair salons you can visit if you’re in the 757 area! I ran across Abena in Marshall’s and she handed me her card personally and since then, I’ve been a fan. She’s sweet and genuinely cares about where you are on your hair journey and where you’re trying to go. She individualizes plans for your hair type and texture, and I don’t think I’ll ever go to another salon for my natural hair care needs.

I recently was measured for a dress for a formal banquet. The dress she designed was absolutely BEAUTIFUL and surpassed my expectations. The handmade jewelry bought from Abena matched perfectly as well. I will definitely order more custom items from her in the future. Her work is amazing!

I showed up to 2 different locations (one on my receipt for prepayment and one on the site). No one was present. The shop was empty at 1:00 p.m. I made this appointment for my son who is extremely hurt he couldnt get his locs retwisted. The phone number doesnt work so I couldnt contact anyone and no one has reached out to me. I will be disputing the charge for prepayment due to services not rendered.

Very nice shop, nice music and good people. My stylist was knowledgeable and spoke with me about my hair and was gentle with my natural hair. I will definitely return.

My experience wit Mrs Abena and Ms Hope was amazing. They were both very nice and welcoming. They worked really well together in accomplishing a style fitting for me! Mrs Abena was very knowledgeable and honest when communicating with about the state of my hair, how to address issues with my hair, and what I should be doing to/with my hair in order to achieve healthy natural hair! Wow! This salon/store is amaaaaaaaazing! I had quite the exciting experience. I have short natural hair and I am also very tender headed, but they were able to make my hair feel healthy and tension free. I received feed in braids and I love them so much. The energy is wonderful in the salon. Mrs.Abena also is a fashion designer and makes quality pieces for all shapes & sizes. Her pieces are made with love and great quality. If you are looking for a hairstylist/fashion designer please come out, you will not regret it all!

I got box braids done at Abena Aforo shop twice and I love them. I keep my hair in box braids and I’ve tried so many African braiding shops in Hampton roads. Abena Aforo shop is the BEST. I went to shop with my hair in shambles due to surgery and not being able to get out the house. This place is nothing short of a blessing. I made appointment and had to cancel due to surgery! Abena called me to check on me and said reschedule when you are feeling better. That alone touched my soul. So 6wks later I called when I was able to get out the house she was able to get me in right on time. When I arrived I was embarrassed about the state of my hair but she made me feel so comfortable and educated me every step of the way. The finished product made me feel so beautiful. This was my first time getting my hair braided. I had a wonderful experience at this salon. The staff were so nice, patient and all were so welcoming. I love my new box braids and would definitely encourage anyone looking for natural hair care or a place to get braids to come to this salon!

**UPDATE** The owner of the shop went out of her way to contact me to understand what happened, she listened to my complaint and apologized for what I experienced. I recommend this shop specifically for natural hair care. If you’re looking on how to better take care and maintain your natural hair with a protective style this is the place to go!!However, be advised if you decide you want extensions you may want to consider another establishment. This shop specializes in natural styles not artificial. 👍🏾

Oh my. This is just the best place to go if you want truly authentic African clothing and jewelry. They also provide a wide variety of services for skin, nails and natural hair. The hair technicians are superbly skilled and friendly. Check out Instagram. And owner is a sweet, beautiful, caring young lady from Ghana. Her designs are handmade, one of a kind or specially designed by the customer. She has has fashion shows, exercise classes and so much more. She tries to treat everyone like family. It is truly a fresh welcoming experience to our area.

I have had the pleasure of visiting Abenas beauty store on several occasions and always walk away satisfied. I have had two beautiful custom dresses made by Abena that fit me perfectly. She is gives her best when working with you and helping make your vision reality despite being so busy. In addition, I have had the pleasure of getting my hair done there by one of her amazing stylists, shout out to Karm! Karm is personable, professional, and took time to listen to my hair needs and wants. She did my hair in a timely fashion without sacrificing quality styling. I always enjoy visiting this beauty store because they make you feel welcome. Abena has a beautiful presence and it reflects in how she runs her business. There is no doubt that customer service is a priority to her and her staff. Definitely will continue to be a happy customer.

This is one of the most serene, relaxing, informative salons I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing!I remember the first time I learned of Abena Aforo was via an Instagram post about this year’s (2019) fashion show. I was blown away by the professionalism and authenticity of the clothing, models, and showmanship!Fast forward to my first time visiting the salon and meeting Abena!❤️I came with my children to purchase tickets to the head wrap class. She and a stylist greeted me warmly as well as my children! I only came to pay for my ticket, but instead was sitting for a while just talking to them and watching the fond interaction they had with my children!The head wrap event was even more than I expected and I left feeling an new sense of self(who I am), new knowledge of the history of the head wrap and the beautiful Twi language, and with new cravings thanks to Abena’s delicious dishes!Finally I was blessed to sit in her chair as a model just this week (June 2019) and I am elated I had this experience.I feel that we have developed the beginnings of a beautiful beautician/client relationship, that feels more like a sisterhood/family.I was greeted warmly again and Abena and her sister Arttina.We began the morning with me sitting in the second stylist chair and my hair and scalp being evaluated.I was extremely nervous, because that is a very vulnerable position to be in as a woman, if we’re honest, especially while areas of concern are exposed.However, Abena was honest and heartfelt, and addressed the areas that needed work as well as informed me of some best practices that would be helpful, and always kept a positive professional perspective. She praised my hair and the job I’d done so far with maintaining health of my hair and scalp.Abena, in depth, told me of each product she used and what was to come next as she cared for my hair. She and Arttina have a sweet “bedside manner” if you will, that put me at ease.At the end of my first day of styling I was given yummy ChinChin, a Ghanaian cookie treat, and chilled sparkling apple cider, a beautiful thoughtful touch! Yummy too!When I came in the next morning to be styled and adorned in the beautiful handmade garments and my beauty to be accentuated by tasteful makeup, I was in for a treat!I am absolutely satisfied with the atmosphere of trust, attention to detail, hospitality, cleanliness, and respect that was given!I was a tired mommy coming into the salon and floated out as a queen highly decorated and adored!I could go on and on about this experience, but just know that deciding to allow Abena Aforo Salon to manage your hair care is one of the best decisions you can make as a Brown Woman 👩🏽‍🦱!~Tai
