1st time visit will not be my last! My iced caramel macchiato with ham & cheese bear claw was delicious! The venue is awesome, relaxed, friendly, with great seating to accommodate however you chill! The food trucks rotate so check the website for whos serving, but they do have some inside sweet & savory eats also!! And thanks for your Covid-19 policy! Highly Recommended!!
This is the best coffee shop, everyone should come here. Really good pumpkin spice latte. They do tons of fun community things too, like goat yoga. Lots if people bring their pumps here too which is super cute. Youll live it!
Possibly my favorite brewery of all time! The self serve beer taps are a super cool unique way to get your favorite brew. The atmosphere (mostly outside) is spacious and a great place for a casual hang. The best and most important part of the review - their beer. HANDS DOWN my favorite local/small business brew/best beer ever. They change what they have on tap often and I have never been disappointed with the brews that they make in house. Typically I stick with lighter beers, but I have found that I LOVE their Porters and IPA’s. I have never gotten a beer that I have been dissatisfied with and recommend Cova to all my friends. The staff is also super accommodating and kind. Anytime I have asked a question they immediately have an answer or find someone with an answer. Last weekend I stopped in an hour before close (they typically stop their flight boxes at this time) and the gal at the desk went and asked the manager who accommodated me with one. SERIOUSLY I cannot stress enough how much you NEED to go try Cova! You won’t be disappointed.
Diamond of Mermaid City.New outdoor seating with garden area, embedded coffee shop, unique food trucks daily plus really good beer. Gets better every trip.Parking is a bit hidden around back.
Had an excellent time at Cova today! First time here. Really like the pour your own beers. Got coffee and beer since they also brew coffee. Ended up meeting Phil, one of the owners/founders and had some good conversations with him. Wished we lived closer, as this would totally be a regular spot for me. But, at least I know where to go if I’m ever in the area. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Caramel macchiato stout!
This place is a meh brewery at best. For the record I was going to give 3 stars, but the parking and getting in and out of the location is awful. They closed there parking lot and turned it into and outdoor sitting area...Beers are over priced and not the best (very basic). You have to fill your own beer and the employees are always lurking around you. It would be much quicker for them to just fill your beers for you. At checkout you are expected to tip even though the employees do nothing... they didn’t grab glasses or clean the tables, just stood around...There is also a coffee shop which is kinda cute.We will not be going back here sadly.
I love the pour your own approach here, and the fact that you pay by the ounce. Prices are very reasonable, and the staff are very helpful. The pour your own style works especially well for flights because it gives you even more flexibility. They have a nice outdoor seating area, and frequently have food trucks on site. They also have a coffee shop side - the samoa pie is a must!
Perfect for a morning coffee and an evening beer (and whatever you want every time in between). The food trucks are really awesome as well. Its a great casual place to hang out.
Even in the time of the pandemic this is the place to go. Plenty of outdoor space. All kinds of finger food. Open at 7 Am and 9 Pm weekdays. Saturday 8 to 10pm and Sunday 8 to 6 pm. Craft coffee, craft beer and wine. Beer is at 36 degrees, white wine at 44 and red at 58. Brewmaster has 10 years experience. All taps are copper and all cleaning is hospital grade . Ask for Phil and Karla they are the owners and want to make you have an exceptional experience.
The beer is good. It is alcohol made from grains, as expected. The cream ale was nice, but not as creamy as I expected. They also have a nice and strong IPA. When we were there was a food truck with loempias. These were as good as I’ve had and I’ve had a lot.
Great coffee done right, and a beer choice for those times you need something else. The beer system is a bit of a new fangled card scan thing, but you can pour any size and hence try everything. It works once you get the primer.
Favorite brewery! We love pouring our beers and not waiting in line to get beer. Super friendly staff.Love it so much my wife and I got some kegs for our wedding!
We stopped to visit while on vacation this past weekend. From the outside it looks very cute and laid back. Unfortunately the parking is not ideal and what turned us away was that it says they are pet friendly yet have signs posted on the outdoor gate that says dog relief area is outside of the fence? Not quite sure how you can control when a dog needs to use the bathroom so we got back in the car and left . Maybe we should have given it a chance but we look for somewhere 100% dog friendly as we take our dog max with us most places.
Was visiting Norfolk & had the pleasure of visiting this gem. Not only do they have an area dedicated to coffee, Cova has wonderful beers that are brewed on site. After check in, take your card, choose a glass from a nice selection of differing beer glasses & pour away. *(dont leave your card in the card reader as you might be buying everybody beers) lol.We sampled multiple beers & all of them were EXCELLENT. Had the opportunity to meet Miss Susan, 1 of the owners. She was kind, informative & very passionate about Cova. We played cornhole in the back area behind the brewery which turns out to be a good sized property. It appeared to me enough space to hold large groups outdoorsAll in allA highly recommended visit to Cova will not disappoint
Awesome brewery and coffee shop! They have a great selection of beers, cider, and wine on tap which are all self- pour (the handles are made of copper so antiseptic but theyre also really good about keeping everything sanitized), and you only pay for the volume that you pour. I did a flight and loved all 4 flavors! They have a bunch of outdoor seating. Also usually have a food truck so you can get some grub with your drinks. Highly recommend this place!
One of the best craft brewery experiences in VB/ Norfolk. The staff is super friendly, beer selection is ALWAYS rotating (so if you find something you like, drink up!), chill vibe, oh and you can get a handcrafted coffee too! Easily my go to spot with friends, to study, or just a chill night out.
Despite all the positive reviews, if you want to be disappointed, you found the spot. Pour your own seems good in theory but when the kegs are warm and you get nothing but foam, you pay for that. Not all that impressed by the beer either. Staff was not that friendly, especially after I mentioned how foamy not just mine, but other patrons beer were. More party bar then a nice brewery
Great spot, friendly staff, and good music! Management, give Ellie a raise! So helpful!
The very first impression was that everything is impeccably clean, and the staff was very friendly and smiling, showed us how to use the card to keep our tab and pour our own beer at the taps! It was incredibly convenient and easy after that. You just pick any glass and pour any amount of any beer, no waiting for service and you can see your tab as you go. The beer is fantastic, would describe it as fresh and mellow for the IPA, and very smooth for the coffee stout. One side of the place is fresh brewed coffee which my girlfriend ordered from and absolutely loved. The prices are normal, not Wal-mart but neither is the environment, absolutely will be bringing friends back here!
This is hands-down our favorite spot to hang out in Norfolk. Cova has an awesome range of alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, rose, ciders) and they have a fantastic coffee section thats open all day (which is amazing for people like me who dont love beer). We love sitting outside with our pup with beer, coffee, baked goods and enjoying the weather. Theyve also held some amazing events and have a book club worth being a part of! I simply cant say enough good things about Cova and the people who work there! If youre in the area, its a spot you have to check out!
Consistently great drinks and environment. Packed street parking isnt ideal but thats the only downside about the place.
Man what awesome ambiance and very good & friendly customer service!A friend took me to this place today and I was floored by the amount of outdoor shaded seating and warmth we were greeted with.I’ve always driven by and wondered what was there. Their coffee pour over is really good for a local roaster and their everything bagels with cream cheese reminded me of the small breakfast delis from Queens, NY.I’ll be bringing the wife here on our next lunch/brunch date.Love the local vibe and southern warmth you guys show here. It’s made my experience really enjoyable.
COVA’s hazy IPA is a new favorite. They have a system that lets you pour yourself. I think it’s nice because if you want a taste or a half pour, it’s up to you. They’ll show you how to do it, but basically-✅ Check in and get a card✅ Pop the card in above the tap- leave it there while you pour✅ Pour!🍻✅ Tab out with your card at the endThey’re doing a great job with covid restrictions- hand sanitizer and a new glass and a mask are required before you pour. There’s outdoor seating that’s distanced too.I also got a cookie there, and it was great. 💥
Extremely popular and for good reason. Great layout and system of the taproom and great beers to go with it. Very friendly staff! Sam is very kind and incredibly helpful! Their coffee and quiche are great as well.
Super friendly service that goes above and beyond for their customers! The food truck also adds more food options!
COVA is a really great brewery in Norfolk but with a VA Beach vibe. Casual and fun. I was a vendor, they were professional and helpful. Well organized and the beer was great! They have a lot of staff, too. Definitely try it out if you have never been 🍻
Great family hangout with awesome beer. Didnt have the coffee but it smells amazing
Waited and waited with bated breath for this brewery to finally open. Had no idea there was going to be a coffee shop inside as well. Now they can get our business for a pick-me-up on the way too work and a much needed draft on the way home! We went during the soft opening and the staff could not have been friendlier. We have never been to a brewery like this before and the staff was excited to explain how the system works. We tried out the pilsner, coffee brew, and nitro brew. Pilsner was my favorite. The iced mocha was also pretty tasty. It all was very reasonable price. Though we did end up spending a pretty penny because we picked up some merch on the way out. Realized afterward that the tip % was based off of the merch as well. Oops. Support local! In short, the wait was totally worth it. We’ll be back!
Great place to go and enjoy food at the food truck, beer is sold by the ounce. They have select wine and great outdoor seating options.
Beer wall is nice. Nice outside patio after long day at the beach
We had our first coffee experience yesterday. It was very good.
The tech here was awesome! You get a card that holds your tab and you can pour your own glass. Peolple in my group got coffee ☕ and said it was good too.
Amazing find! Stumbled upon this gem after a day of sun on the beach and we were thrilled! The original self pour system for beer, wine & cider is almost as awesome as the brews themselves. Weve visited MANY breweries along the east coast and this is our favorite so far!!!!
Really amazing beer and a great experience for the whole family.Definitely a must stop...Cheers!!
This is a really interesting idea for a bar. It was fun to be able to pour your own drinks and it was so nice how the staff kept everything sanitary. The beers were very different and a great change of pace from the regular Heineken and Bud light. I would recommend skipping the wine since its the most expensive drink and its not too great. Also use the sample glasses instead of the regular glasses so you dont fill up too much on one beer.
Had a great time!!! Love all the options from beer, wine, champagne and coffee. The cheese food truck was awesome! Tonight was trivia night and our team came in 2nd place!!
The good: atmosphere is cool. Walking distance to the beach. Lots of outdoor seating with tents for shelter from rain offering plenty of shade.Bad: I had 2 beers. Coffee stout was a little warm and under carbonated. A full 16 Oz pour costs 7.25. Also had the Pina Colada Sour. Beer was delicious. Aromas of pineapple and coconut were well balanced. However, was also under carbonated. I only poured a little of this one but I think it probably would have cost around $13 for a 16oz pour. You pay per ounce an doour it yourself. They needed 3 people standing around to help patrons since no one knows how this works. Would be much more efficient if bartenders just poured beers themselves, and would require less employees doing the same thing.Flavors were great. Carbonation was poor. And its really expensive.
The best neighborhood brewing company!! Whether it is coffee in the morning, a beer with friends in the afternoon, or a food truck or band, THIS IS THE PLACE. Gemütlichkeit for my friends who have been stationed in Germany. But, dont tell anyone, I dont want our favorite watering hole to become too popular!PS. The hands on owners, Phil and Karla, and Scott and Susan, and GM Corey, are always there making sure everything is running smoothly - a terrific team!
While the experience of pouring your own beverage is novel, the interior of the brewery is appealing and the service provided in explaining the process is well thought out, I was completely taken aback and totally annoyed that my pint of IPA cost $9.50. Its craft beer and its well made but $9.50 for a pint is insane. Its also unpleasant to sit on such a busy road with constant traffic. I wont be returning!
Awesome stop for a drink! They have a great variety on tap. The process is really cool too. You pour your own drink and they charge by the ounce.
Had an amazing experience at Cova. The beer self serve is a fun, innovative way to let people drink at their leisure with no stress.Specifically, Andrew the manager, provided a great experience with graciousness for us stopping in on a rainy evening and even accommodated our dog who was being a little overprotective. Thanks to the staff for providing a walkthrough on the process and the great beer!
Pretty good wines and ciders. Pet friendly outside.
Excellent brewery with self pouring. Also good coffee at coffee bar.
Honestly, I have been here twice and both times I received HORRIBLE & RUDE service. Each time I brought friends. I returned for a second time because I figured that everyone has a bad day once in while and to give this place another shot. But no, the people there are so rude. I will be spending my money where it is appreciated. You would think that especially during COVID a new business will be gracious for every single customer, I guess they dont need it.
I love this place! Everyone is friendly and professional, the selection is great, and the place is fun and inviting!
Great outdoor area. Inside is overwhelming for a first timer but the staff try to steer you in the right direction. Food trucks are wonderful.
Super friendly. Great beers. Plenty of room outside to find the perfect spot to relax.
Costly, but great atmosphere and great wine!!!
Great service and atmosphere. A must go to!!! A variety of entertainment, drinks and food vendors all the time. Pets allowed
My wife and I had a wonderful time here. The beer is self-serve and they have someone there to show you how it works (its easy)! You get a card (or 2 in our case) connected to your tab that you place in the card reader over the beer you want. It only charges you for how much or little you pour, which is perfect for trying a few without committing to a full glass. It also shows you the price of what you poured so its easy to keep track. You grab a new glass each time and use the rinser before you pour, so things stay clean. There is great outdoor seating and its in a great area, with a nice sized yard/field that was being used for an outdoor trivia night. The prices were good as well! There was also a food truck this evening. Im not sure if they always have one, but its good to know that they have the space for one. We are definitely coming back.
I adore this coffee shop! I always said that Hampton Roads needed a bright, inviting, and aesthetically appealing coffee shop and have been waiting for someone to jump in and snatch up the opportunity to be the first. This is exactly that.Great coffee, friendly staff, and amazing desserts/pastries. I haven’t tried the alcohol but I’m sure it’s just as good. The only downfall is the limited snacking menu for those that frequently visit and camp out for a few hours (like myself), but they’re just getting started!
Dont like the sweet frog concept.
Staff was great and the setup they have is pretty cool too. They have a small selection on wine along with the beer. Nice place!
This place is very gimmicky. The self serve system is designed to increase the amount that each person is charged for a simple glass of beer. I had trouble on 3 of the 5 beers that I poured because of air in the lines. The people working their insisted I wouldn’t be charged for the foam despite me seeing the amount on my card tick up when pouring nothing but foam. The bottom line is if I wanted to pour my own beer I would just stay at home and drink perfectly poured beer. Also there were close to 1 million dogs there which was ridiculous, the place resembled more of a dog park then a bar! I will not be returning.
We love this place. Started going here when our daughter lived near by. Not saying that this is the reason, but we just got a place near by and look forward to many visits!
Cutest brewery ever! Their beers are on point and there is plenty of space outside!! Theres amazing coffee and tea and treats available too and they get some mag food trucks. Talks about making a spot for us smokers but until that happens you can still walk a short distance and smoke. Absolutely amazing brewery, ten out of ten recommend!!
Nice place to go. Beer was tasty. Food truck was Delicious. Bad gnats last night when we went.
This brewery is creative, clean, dog-friendly and has a great selection of different beers and wines. It’s a friendly environment with laidback music and vibe. I didn’t bring my doggo this time, but I’ll definitely be back with my doggo and some friends!
First time at Cova Brewing... theyre doing the covid restrictions very well. Extremely helpful staff for how everything works (card powered individual pour)... limited inside seating but nicely covered outdoor seating is available.Beers are decent, everyone should be able to find something to drink, though I expect even better in the future. They also have wine and coffee drinks available, and gnoshing type food.
Great beer and great atmosphere! Love the self-serve system! Not to mention, their coffee is superb.
Really enjoyed the outdoor seating and the staff was very friendly. Probably the strongest nitro brewed coffee i have ever had!
Great customer service and facilities. Fun atmosphere and good variety.
Best service from the nicest staff in Virginia beach area! Will always be an afternoon stop
Cool experiential brewery with the self-serve taps. Nice vibe and super friendly staff that explain everything and are helpful with how to use the taps and explaining the beers. Probably most importantly - nice variety of beers to choose from. It seem like everywhere else is all IPAs with one lager, stout and pils. This place had a nice selection of pretty much everything.
Great selection of beer! Friendly staff. Awesome atmosphere.
This place blew away expectations. From MI where craft breweries are a plenty. This was one of if not the best I’ve been to. Atmosphere is great for any age group and Beers were exceptional. I had two flights and every beer was good. Had a double ipa and a stout that were phenomenal. Self serve system once shown how use was great. COVID precautions were exceptional and business was very clean and thoughtfully run. Highly recommend.
Super cool local place! Keeping everyone safe while still making sure everyone is having a good time. All employees go out of their way to make sure you feel comfortable even if it’s your first time there and you don’t know what to do, huge shout out to Will who had great recommendations as well as being very knowledgeable about the different options available . This place is the first brewery I’ve been to around this area that only cares about you having a good time &staying safe !! Thanks guys for all you do! We will be back
Great time. Drinks were great and the staff was very helpful in picking out drinks for my flight. The owner even came out to greet our group and talk about the different drinks and such. Overall really good experience, I live about 30 minutes away and Ill definitely be back.
Good Service, Cool Spot and Nice Selection of beers for any sunny afternoon.
Great place for beers and coffee
Fantastic place and great vibe. Good quality beer as well as coffee and they are supporting local businesses. Another great up and coming brewery for the area, especially in Ocean View. For a brand new business opening up in the middle of a pandemic we’ve only had good experiences the 4 times we’ve been.
Awesome setup, pay by what you pour even if not a full glass! Great beer and awesome service. Definitely will be coming back.
Good beer, good atmosphere, solid trivia on Tuesdays that we can not seem to win. Would recommend 👌
First time visiting with the girlfriend. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The tap wall is great for doing a little taste here and there. I got the Kolsch while my girlfriend got a peach basil gose. Both beers had fresh flavor and perfect balance. Could not be more impressed with this establishment. Thanks Joe and Vee for turning us onto Cova. Can’t wait to try the coffee next !
This place is amazing! Very clean, very friendly, and affordable! We will definitely be back!
Great location and atmosphere. Over complicated pain to grab a few beers. Stand in line and grab a card, stand in line to pour my own beer...and don’t mess up with charge by the oz system, and then stand in line again to close out my tab. 10 minute ordeal to grab 2 beers. Maybe it’s better if you’re hanging out all night, but it’s definitely not efficient. I commend them for thinking outside the box to maximize profits, but it’s just not for me. Meh.
Such a fun place. Super friendly staff
I just had my first experience with Cova brewing, And it was amazing. The service was so incredible, the employees were so nice and they explained everything to me. The food and drink are both exquisite. I am definitely coming back
