I realize I left this review with a comment, which I never do.I also did not mean to leave 4 stars. My only feedback about this ACE, which is my favorite, is that the middle aisles are cluttered so its hard to navigate. Staff is excellent.They do have the best prices and they have EVERYTHING. I mean.. everything. Even utilizing the parking lot for seasonal items like plants, which also often go on sale. Lowes cannot compete. Period.

Ace are great hardware stores and this one is my favorite. It’s amazing how much merchandise they have in stock.

The odds are you will find it here! They have experienced personnel who will help direct you to what you need (even if you dont really know what you need). Friendly and experienced help, fully stocked.

That store has seen better days. It was dirty and the shelves were a mess and very unorganized.

After trying the other two major home/ hardware stores, I found Ace Hardware had in stock what I was looking for. One home store sent me 7 miles saying that they had 6 in stock only to find they couldnt find them.

Extremely helpful getting stuff into the car eith a smile on a hot humid day+

I dropped off my screen door for repairs. When I picked it up I noticed the handle was missing. When I brought it up to the employees at the counter I was met with poor customer service. The store wouldn’t assume responsibility for the missing part because they “use a third party company for repairs”. I was told I had to contact the third party myself. No solution was offered and I had to pay full price for a faulty service. Both employees I spoke with were extremely rude.

I will never shop here again.I just returned a leaf blower. With tax I paid $199.99. When I returned it, they gave me back $197.99, and a comment of, well, its close enough.What?! I returned 100% of the leaf blower, I expect 100% of my money back.Two old men tried to explain to me, well, its because of the $20 discount you got. Someone should send them back to high school, because the line items dont matter. Its the total. I gave you a TOTAL OF $199.99, I should receive $199.99 back.But, it doesnt end there. The cashier then asks the manager, should I just give her her two dollars back to make her happy? in the condescending tone that only an 80 year old man can. The manager oks the additional refund. But do I get the full $2? Nope. I get $1.97. I just left rolling my eyes. Im getting my three cents worth in writing this terrible review.Look, I get computers can be hard for the Boomer generation, but dont be condescending and act like Im unreasonable just because I want all of my money back.EDIT: the owner seems to think that the trouble i have is with the return transaction. Its not. Those mistakes happen, and I was perfectly patient in trying to resolve that issue. Its how I was treated when I brought the error to the attention of both the cashier and the manager.Being told, close enough and then treated like Im being an unreasonable child when I just wanted a complete and correct transaction is unacceptable.

Great place to get materials and advice family owned

Most salespeople are very helpful but this Sunday I encountered a sarcastic and obnoxious sales person. I prefer shopping a local independent merchant but that experience will encourage me to shop at Home Depot.

I went to purchase a replacement propane tank. The night Manager very rudely said unless you have the empty tank I would have to buy it at full price. It was $50.00 or more. I stated I would bring the old one in this week. He said loudly, do you want it or not. We already had our dinner ready to cook. I agreed with hesitation. Within a short period of time I brought the empty tank in and the same Manager stated we do not give refunds. If I had the empty with me i would of saved $30.00. Very bad policy and extremely rude. Do not go to this local Ace. Buffalo Grove is much better..

How can anyone fail to love a good hardware store?The people at this location are very friendly and helpful.If you are intimidated by a hardware store you will find this place a relief.

After a great conversation with Ron the owner. I decided to remove the poor review I had written. Being in business today is not easy. Ron was not only a gentleman but genuinely sincere about the concern I had raised. Sometimes all it takes is communication. Thanks Ron you will be seeing me soon.

One of the better ones...

I bought an expensive Big Green Egg grill there and 2 years later it broke. Brad at Ace helped me process the warranty with the manufacturer and stayed on top of it until a replacement was delivered. Customer service here is ten times better than Home Depot of Lowes, so if you can find it at Ace, go to Ace.

Well they have just about everything you could need. And the rental department is super helpful and friendly!

We went here to buy Christmas lights and found it to be great. The staff was super helpful and the prices were very reasonable especially compared to the bigger chain stores. Ended up buying a lot more than Christmas lights and will come back again

Incompetent staff and clueless managers. Would not recommend wasting your time. The prices are higher than big-box stores or amazon.

The service here is unmatched by any hardware store...Always plenty of staff to assist with products and answer questions on DIY projects and they assist with loading items in your car. They have everything.

Ace almost always has what I want and often a few surprises, such a real Corian plates and bowls and glass fingernail files. The store supports local charitable activities in several ways. They are a strong downtown business.

Mostly nice, mostly attentive, and a good example of why the mega-stores havent succeeded in eradicating the neighborhood hardware store. I found what I wanted quickly and at a good price.

If I could give this store a zero I would. Worse customer service ever! The store is a mess and the employees are all super lazy. I drove 20 miles to pick up an item I needed that it said they had is stock online. When I got there they said it was put up and they couldnt get it because there were boxes in front of it. The manager thought that was a valid reason for them to not get it. I will never shop at this or any other ace hardware again. I have never experiance such a blatant lack of customer service.

A few years ago, our local neighborhood hardware store switched affiliations from Do It Best to Ace Hardware, but they still have the same friendly people working there. I am a big fan of this store, mainly because it is so convenient and they have good hours. I could get a lower price by driving up to the big warehouse store in the next town, but I would waste at least an additional hour if not more by going there.What I can say about Northbrook Ace is that they are very helpful and they have just about everything you really need. Its small town friendly service like you wont find in the big box stores. Also, you dont have to wait a long time at the checkout and theres generally plenty of parking right at the door.Yes, you will sometimes pay a little more, so if all you are interested in is price, go to a discount place. Personally, I really like having this store handy when I need something in a hurry. They will take the time to tell you what to do when your quick 5 minute plumbing repair job suddenly turns into a 2 hour nightmare.Despite the fact that some prices are higher, a lot of things are actually competitively priced. They also give you reward points and $5 gift certificates from time to time. I appreciate this store and I hope they will be around for a long time.I have to mention one especially nice thing that happened. I was trying to run a new TV cable through my wall, and I didnt have the right tool for that. One of the helpful hardware guys sent me over to his home to get the tool and instructed his wife to give it to me. How many people can you think of that would do that? I was really impressed!
