Weird little Safeway! Pretty good, doesnt have some stuff you might expect, and the parking lot is bigger than the store, but its cool. In a walkable neighborhood like this maybe they should have less parking and do something fun with that space?
They are open late. Until midnight. They have really great cashiers there, really fast checkers that can multi task and still have the strength to try to be pleasant to the next person. Thumbs up safeway
Safeway its a good, safe, reliable store. I like the eclectic selections, its an adventure, also they will order anything they dont have, so easy peasy. Staff is usually friendly. 👍
Very busy store, not always easy to park, but the people that work there are helpful and nice.
Good place. They serve their purpose which is sell food
I like this Safeway. They have great selections of Asian products
I was looking for candied fruit to make a fruitcake and there was nothing in the store. Compared to many other Safeway stores this one is relatively small but has a large stock of almost anything else an average shopper might want.
I have been in this store twice. As a Safeway this store is small and does not have the widest selection of choices. The staff are really friendly and treat you with respect. When I go to Montclair it is for the other stores and restaurants in the area. This Safeway is more for the locals than it is for a grocery shopping spree.
Great selection of food, meats, great staff.
Clean and good service.
The last few visits were okay but August 25th I got racially profiled I was at the checkout you know where you check out yourself young man ask for my receipt and I asked him for what he said the man upstairs was looking I guess they assumed I stole something so I said right on that machine and waited for the young man the only reason I havent called corporate is because it was a young man but I dont need nobody trying to accuse me of stealing and at this age I do not steal
I guess it was okay. Parking lot is very limited. Found what I needed.
It’s safeway, it’s fine.
Small neighborhood Safeway with a better selection of meats, cheeses, cookies and breads than some of its larger counterparts. Better selection of gluten free matzos and other products.
The staff and clerks are friendly courteous. I see this store more like a Safeway Mini Market Price for certain foods are higher than most Safeway stores in Oakland because of the daily thievery from the homeless, youth and your typical crooks that live in the area. Therefore, big list grocery shopping should be done at their larger stores. Overall, management appears to try their very best to provide quality customer service. So I give this Fruitvale district store 5 stars 👏
Love the 🦞 lobsters and Shrimp.prices
Its a small, older Safeway, but surprisingly well stocked. I have come here when the bigger stores were out and have gotten what I need. The line is shorter and moves fast, and the employees are nice and do a good job. One of my favorites.
Decent for emergency neighborhood shopping.
Nice small Safeway. Good covid-19 safety procedures. Carefully controlling the number of people inside the store. Small parking lot.
The Safeway where you only go to grab a few things and run out. Very small, claustro, maneuvering skillfully while saying excuse me to everyone. But otherwise straightforward small neighborhood market type Safeway. People are nice.
The shelves were stocked well. Social distancing guidelines maintained. Environment of store clean. Staff very friendly.
There was no one making sure that carts and baskets were sanitized.... During this time of Covid19 it is essential that ALL equipment is cleaned and sanitized properly... I did see one person that worked there put a dirty cart back with the clean carts...i know it was not cleaned because I just finished with it....
The female cashier there is a jerk. Intentionally unhelpful and makes you reach over and grab your own groceries. Save your breath and go to Lucky’s where they’re actually nice to people.
Very busy store but good staffing and nice employees make the wait short and pleasant
Small and quaint. Not too busy tonight.
The cashier was rude. She asked me if I have Safeway Club Card. I cannot hear her so I said sorry Ill give her my phone number. And when I looked up to her, she shocked her head and rolled her eyes. She is the Caucasian woman with shoulder length blonde hair. I was told by somebody that was a manager. Even my wife said he is rude. As I walk out of Safeway, couple of customers told me the same thing. If she is maybe you should fire her. How could she still a manager?
Store employees are excellent. Store is clean plus roof top parking.
99% of the staff there is extremely friendly. Brendan in the meat counter always helpful very nice Mark extremely nice always helpful Patty always has a smile on her face the new assistant manager shes awesome. There is one heavy set blonde woman cashier there that has a serious attitude problem and is extremely rude not only to me but to my elderly family its a shame we spend well over $1,000 a month and we will never go back. Everybody else is absolutely great except for her avoid her if youre there.
I stopped in for a snack because I was about to sit in traffic for at least an hour. It had been a few years since Id been in this store, as I now live in Pinole but used to live in Montclair. It was unclear at first how the lines worked, but a cashier pointed out that there was one line for all the registers. The line moved quickly and I got everything I needed, plus some potato egg salad to take home.
A small older safeway. Does not have as many items as other stores. Lines are laid out strange but it works.
I just love Safeway
Nice 👍 N petite
Smaller Safeways in the Montclair district. Power was out, so businesses werent open, Safeways was! Neatly arranged store, easy to find what I was primarily looking for and courteous staff.
Sunday mornings are great to shop here. They get you in and out quickly.
Tiny. A cashier scolded me, but another one was kind.
Best store in the world. Friendly staff and great managers make the shopping experience great!
Too big for my tastes
Fresh produce and great customer care
Small freindly store, best fried chicken
Not missing much
Some employees werent wearing mask properly particularly the butcher Department. Otherwise they do provide hand sanitizers and wipe down every basket and cart. I give them a 10 for that
Convenient shopping. Courteous clerks. Friendly employees.
This is the worst layout for shoppers no baked goods stuck up people everywhere workers terrible customer service and smallest Safeway ever.
You wish to get rippedoff go any locations any where, makes no difference.
Smallest Safeway I use, but the nicest clerks running the registers. Shopping here 22 years, it was my favorite, it is my favorite, it probably always will be my favorite. Clerks and stockers are nice to customers, nice to each other, questions are answered, stuff gets found if its there. Live yeast. Marsala wine for chicken. Non-fat cottage cheese. Ground buffalo. Rocky and Rosy chicken, and Bruce whats-his-names sausages. The vegetables are fresher and better displayed than at the bigger stores. Reasonable organic/conventional mix. I havent used the deli counter. Everything else is as good as any Safeway is ever going to be. And the people who work there make it the best. One change? They stock the local Everett & Jones Medium BBQ sauce. My family prefer Mild and I get it somewhere else.
I liked their selection of organic and fresh produce. They never ran out of stocks that I needed. Staffs were friendly and helpful too.
A small Safeway store but has great local fruits and vegetables!
Today, I experienced the milestone of buying a 12 pack of first world quality toilet paper from this store. Good day!
Ok, customer service impeccable. Bought unplanned case of water and the cashier went and got me a cart.(yes! the cashier I tell ya😲) The customers were even helpful, not all snobby and stuff. 🎶Loving it🎶
Ask annie to make you a sandwich!
This store gets three stars because its like a tiny house. Very small and cramped inside. No bakery and the deli does not have a big selection. There cant be much more than 30 tight parking spaces in the parking lot. On the brightside.... store is always clean and well stocked with fresh basic necessities. Staff is always friendly and engaging. Also, you can sometimes catch a good deal.
The deli lady is very nice and makes the best sandwich 🥪 😋
Empty and nice personal
I dont like that safe way too much the security is very unfriendly and a poor atmosphere when youre spending a lot of money there I try not to go there only as the last resort
Good selection and good prices
Able to easily find most items. Prices are a bit higher than other stores
They have all kinds of food! The employees are generally helpful. Its like going to the grocery store! Good thing you have a cell phone to explain it to you.
I placed an order on Friday morning for pick up, this afternoon at 2:45pm, when I arrived, the order was not ready, the person who took the order was the same one who didnt have it ready. She added some other pieces to make up the order, I appreciated the just but not the lie. I realized later that this wasnt a store that I have used in the past.I will be more selective in the future. J.V.H
Small and the male cashier is so very rude
The assistant manager with the dreads needs to adjust her attitude or go work at a DMV. The store manager Barry is simply inept. The chicken tenders taste like they were pulled from a Burger King dumpster and reheated.Bought a steak from this place a week before the sell by date, cooked it immediately and it tasted like it had sat out in the sun for a day before they sold it.Lines are always ridiculously long.I could go on and on. Simply put, it’s one of the worst locations in Oakland. Only reason they’re in business is because they sell liquor.
That is the smallest Safeway I have ever seen
I have not shopped at Safeway Monclair in a long time. Car windows get smashed during the middle of the day. One evening we were walking into the Safeway as thieves were pushing their way out out of the store with as much alcohol they could put into baskets and steal.
Great location.
Go to Luckys or elsewhere, dont waste your time here. Had a manager try and blame the workers union for the fact that the manager was too lazy to verify an out-of state ID and/or the store is too cheap to have a way to verify IDs. You can find better prices elsewhere anyway.
The entrance here sometimes straches my bumper, but then again the overall city construction and layout is to blame and not Safeway. I wish public works would take care of places like this.
After standing in line to enter the store, there was no express line for customers. I needed to buy just flowers but was told to stand in line where people has carts full of groceries. I decided to leave without buying flowers.
Enjoy how the store organized
The place is compact but I found everything I needed
Love the chicken fritters!
Smaller for a Safeway, but friendly. Masks, social distancing, all good.
Havent been to this Safeway in YEARS...yet growing up in Piedmont, did come here quite a few times.
One of the smaller, older Safeways in the region but still a shining example of why theyre the best. The staff is always wonderfully helpful and courteous.
My visit was a pleasure as usual. Safeway is the very best place to shop. Need more help in the deli.
I love this Safeway, the checkers are awesome and the atmosphere is nice. Its a cozy, community grocery store.
Small Safeway in an old building. It lacks a good variety of items. Organic fruit selection is limited. Organic vegetables were stuffed into a small area. Yogurt selection was small. Found a non-dairy cream cheese but there was only one brand, kind and size of non-dairy yogurt. Selection of whole bean Peets coffee was limited to one decaf and two roasts. Deli area looked normal. Restroom was awful. Had to go into stocking area and step through water to access restroom near employee breakroom. Employees were nice. Considering that this store is located in a desirable area, it isnt a nice shopping experience.
Customer service
Small selection and overpriced compared to other safeway stores. I bought a fruit bowl here and wondered why is tasted funny, I looked at the date and it had expired two days prior. Sad day for me and a waste of 7 dollars.
Great little store. Great for a little shop.
Staff are always helpful and pleasant. I appreciate Gene, working around the store cleaning and assisting as needed. Thank you Gene.
Great, fast service!
The store is clean & I love the sandwiches.
❤❤❤ THIS IS A NICE AND SMALLER STORE WITH LOTS OF FRIENDLY STAFF. I HAD A GREAT IN AND OUT SHOPPING EXPERIENCE, THANKS 😇😇😇.
I worked at that safeway what a beautiful store
Smaller Safeway but generally tidy and organized.
Needs an upgrade. Isles are tiny, cant help but bump into other people, or be helplessly stuck behind them, which is seriously unpleasant aftert a long day of work. Terrible seafood counter. Most things are previously frozen or have added color. Nice wine selection and a fair organic section, although there were no organic peaches or nectarines today. Hey, its June 3rd!
Was pleasantly surprised to see a good selection of vegan items in this smaller Safeway
Everything is tight here, the parking spaces, door entry, the ailses, but I usually get what I need and helpful service
My local safeway! Usually go here for emergency food runs. Sometimes the prices are a little high but the shelves are well stocked and the staff is friendly.
Because of limited space, this market is less than appealing. Further, its a bit dreary, dingy, and needs some TLC. In the past month, I had a heck of a time trying to find parking, and have been warned of car break-ins.
People were nice but its a VERY small store
These people are the most stuck up peoples Ive ever encountered the customers the employees the whole 9
Dont know where to begin...
Nice staff but small Safeway (limited selection).
Huge, very nice store with a great selection. I like the layout, much easier to navigate than the old store
Saw Pam Moore from the news. Otherwise small store... decent selection. Should stay open later.
Small and basic not worth it go somewhere else
Great local grocery store and free parking.
To small to be good.
