Friendly little book nook for new and second-hand books. Located in a lovely part of Old Saybrook which is ideal for an afternoon stroll and window shopping. Just down the street from the Penny Lane Pub, so getting a book and sitting down with it and a glass of your favorite drink is not only feasible, but is also my idea of a perfect afternoon/evening.

Wonderful family owned bookstore. That are very willing to order books. They have a good selection of locally themed books. Used as well as new!

I stopped in this store today after running around to about 7 different stores looking for a particular old book. No one at any of the other stores really knew what I was looking for or had a copy, but the clerk at Harbor Books knew exactly which book I meant, knew exactly where it was, and had several older editions for me to peruse. I got the perfect Christmas present for an incredibly reasonable price! I just wish I had stopped there first instead of running around all afternoon. The store was very neat, well organized, and they had a large selection of books.

We stopped into Harbor Books today with our children, who are 2 and 4. They are young children and energetic, but they also know how to behave. My younger daughter handed me a Childrens book off the shelf, I said yes, thats a book, and I put it back on the shelf. The man behind the counter VERY rudely said Those books are for adults to buy, to which I said, Yes, I realize that. He replied with (still quite rudely) This is NOT a library. Those books are for purchase. I took my children and left. They werent causing any sort of trouble, there wasnt anyone else in the store, and the display of childrens books are right at floor level very accessible for young children to look at. I understand the concern about children potentially destroying books and displays, but mine were not misbehaving, I put the book back as soon as it was handed to me, and I was getting ready to tell my daughter that we look at them, not touch. I dont know ANYONE who goes to a book store without thumbing through the books, and this employee (I dont know if he was the owner or a clerk) made it quite apparent that we were not welcome there despite the prominent display of childrens books and the open door to the street. I wouldnt recommend this store to anyone.

Quaint little bookshop, very friendly staff, half off original prices...great little gem in Old Saybrook.

My favorite used book store around... better than the options where I live in Cambridge/Somerville.Go at the end of the summer to get all the recent, best summer reads after the renters have gone!
