Went here off a recommendation from a friend. He took me in on very short notice. I’m so glad I found an honest mechanic. Although I thought I needed such a huge repair, he was honest about it and fixed what it needed. I could of easily been robbed at another shop for hundreds. The quality of his work was top notch. He even fixed small things I didn’t see or ask for. Mike answered every call and communicated with me on every point. Had my bike ready super fast. I honestly could not be happier to have found American Motorcycle. Extremely courteous, honest, and on time work with prices that anyone could not beat.

Mike is a very professional and straight forward man. It was my first time going to his shop and he made me feel like if i had known him for years. He goes straight to the point and told me everything that was wrong with my bike right away. The parts that i received for my bike were of great quality and once he received the parts he called me and told me to drop my bike off. The following day i received his call with great news saying the bike was done. I defiantly didnt expect for my bike too be done so quick . I got a great price for a chain and sprockets as well as the front forks that were resealed and for the oil and brakes to be checked. He has an amazing crew and family owned business. Anytime i need something done to my bike i will definitely be going back to him. I highly recommend his bussiness.

He diagnosed another issue with my bike. You can see he cares, not just about his craft, but for the safety of his customers. Good price; same-day service; great work; other reviews have covered these extensively, and these alone are worth making American Motorcycle (A.M.) your new go-to for bike work. But whatll keep me, personally, coming back for years to come is the transparency. Mike and his team will tell you exactly what needs to be done, and even show you the damage and wear so you can see for yourself. I like that they arent pushy, either; unless your bike is in a condition which will threaten your life and the lives of your fellow drivers on the road, the team leaves the choice up to you, whether to get the work done or not. You can trust their opinions certainly, but if its more $$ than you expected and maybe you cannot afford it then theyll let you ride away as long as youre not endangering yourself or others.I was waiting on them to finish on my bike one day when someone else rode in on a 90s Yamaha. With one walk-around the youngest mechanic knew immediately that it was unsafe to ride (some kind of shifter issue, plus the chain was very rusty), and told the rider as much. The team refused to work on the bike in the knowledge that they could not be sure theyd be giving it back to this guy in truly safe, running condition, so numerous were its problems. They tried to stop him from riding away on it, too, when he was finished having his temper tantrum over their refusal to touch his vehicle. Many could call it belligerence but that, in my eyes, is integrity. They couldve made a quick buck off this guy but instead they tried to protect both him and other drivers by keeping an old, unmaintained motorcycle off the road. A quick anecdote but one which will stick with me if Im ever on the other side of the country and looking for a new motorbike mechanic. AM sets the bar very high for honest and comprehensive service.

(this is what I wrote on yelp but wanted to share on google too)These guys are Great! Friendly, Fair prices and Knowledgeable and Skilled. What more do you want in a mechanic?Do you have an older model bike? Does it have carburetors? Mine does. These guys had my bike tuned up and running like new after several other shops told me to just junk my bike and buy a new one. American Motorcycle even came to my house to pick up the bike for a nominal fee. While work was being done on the bike photo updates were also sent my way -which I appreciated very much. These guys are what you want from a mechanic. Honest upfront and good. I found these guys through a neighbor but I hope you find them through me.I hope this review helps. Because I want them to be around for a while! Finding a shop like this is a rarity.I know they also do detailing and some frame work too buy not sure on the specifics ~

The guys at American Motorcycle are the best mechanics I have ever met. I brought in a 1978 Honda CB750 Super Sport that had been sitting for years. By the time they were done working, it was running like it had off the showroom floor. I was so confident in the engine that I rode the bike cross-country, from NY to LA. Not a single mechanical issue the entire 7k mile adventure. I will continue to send my business to American because they are a great group of guys that are honest, talented, and fair. I know I am getting the best bang for my buck every time. You will not be disappointed, as I never have been.

I got a flat tire in Manhattan at 3:00 on a Saturday. Anyone who rides knows that every bike shop in America is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and I had to be at a work function is South Jersey on Sunday. So it was critical to get my flat fixed that day. I called every bike shop within 70 miles (the limit of my AMA towing) and kept getting no after no.Until I got Michael on the phone. He said they could do a patch/plug combination, but the timing was tight as they close at 7. By the time the tow truck got to me and we got to Patterson, it was 6:45. Michael and his team gladly stayed to take car of my tire. They were all really personable and did a great job on the tire repair. They were there and flexible when I needed them and they charged way less than a NYC shop would charge.I will definitely be making the trip out to Jersey when my bike needs fixing!

Ive been going to this shop for the last 20 years, and they are the only ones Ill let work on my bikes. These guys know what they are doing, have a professional disciplined attitude toward work and are extremely well priced compared to competitors. Theyve seen and worked on the evolution of the motorcycle since their inception and that encyclopedia of knowledge is not something that easily attainable. Id immediately recommend them to my friends and family, as theyd treat your bike as it were one of their own.

They helped start up my bike within the first 10 minutes of me being there which makes sense because they’ve been doing this for about 50 to 60 years. I’m working on my bike and they’ll be helping me out all winter. They TALK YOU THROUGH EVERYTHING and truly make you feel like you know what’s going on. And you can tell ur not getting screwed over for a quick buck. Their rates are AFFORDABLE and REASONABLE. ANY ISSUES they can fix, rebuild and even fabricate new parts. GOING BACK SOON.

This shop is a HELL HOLE!!! I brought my bike on Fri 4/28 so they can have an idea of what they were going to work with. The son, Mike, looks over my bike & tells me more or less what it would need done. He tells me to bring the bike in on Tues 5/2. Shop hours are from 11am - 7pm. I get there at 11:15am on Tues & the shop is NOT open. There was another customer ahead of me looking perplexed also. 5 - 10 mins later, the father (Dave) peeks his head out the door & looks at us perplexed. The first words out of him were I dont open the shop until all my mechanics are in! The customer ahead of me asked Dave about a shifter issue he wants an opinion on & Dave told him that he should turn the bike back to stock options cause after something is changed, they dont like to mess with it! That customer left & Dave first had to open the gate for the shop then take out his van from inside. Finally, he asks me what Im here for. I told him his son told me to bring the bike in for a tune-up & fluid change. He proceeded to ask me questions about the bike (that is right in front of him) that only a mechanic would know. I took off the seat & side covers looking for the info he requested, to no avail. During the time I was taking off the seat & covers, another customer comes in with 2 mini bikes. He proceeds to check her bikes out even though I had told him I couldnt find the info he requested. He even took a mirror to check the underside of one of the mini bikes, while chatting up THAT customer with idle chatter. Thank God that a friend of mine who followed me there to bring me back home was not in a rush! Finally Dave comes back to me telling me that he doesnt know what to do with my bike. I repeated to him that Mike said he knew what was needed, to which he proceeded to CALL Mike on the phone to find out what to do (at least 30 Mins have elapsed)...He calls Mike & hands me the phone while its still ringing. Someone OTHER than Mike answers & just says in a monotone voice this isnt Mike. Perplexed, I hand the phone to Dave & he figures out that the voice is another of his workers. He yells at the guy to put Mike on & he hands me the AGAIN BEFORE Mike gets on. Mike gets on the phone & he didnt remember me, to which I proceeded to explain when I was there, which bike in question, & what he said I might need (on Fri). Mike tells me that he has to look at the bike again, so I asked him how long til he gets to the shop. His answer was I may be 20 mins away, but I hafta pick up one of my workers so I it might take longer. The next thing he tells me is I need to leave a $200 deposit & leave the bike so they can look at it (he NEVER mentioned this on Fri). Dave takes the phone & they start ARGUING with each other about it. Dave HANGS UP on Mike. The next statement Dave makes is I cant run a business lie this!!! AND At this point, if you wanna take your business ELSEWHERE youd be doing me a favor cause none of my mechanics are here & I dont work on bikes anymore, i just run the business!...(What the HECK does running a business entail?!?!?!)...By this time I had made up my mind that I was NOT leaving my bike with individuals that run a business like that. As Im leaving, Dave said if I bring the bike in the next day (YEAAHH RIIIGHT!!!), & I hafta quote AGAIN..DONT come at this time, theres no one here this early!... It was already past NOON!!!...They MIGHT be good mechanics as per previous posts, but they are IRRESPONSIBLE business owners!!!

I took my ZX7 there to have my carbs clean they kept saying I was a drug dealer because of the way I was dressed and Im actually the owner of a motorcycle transport business. They continued to say how it must be hard selling drugs in Paterson real stereotypic about Spanish people and people from Paterson. I left them the bike for a whole week came back my bike was running worse than when I left it there. The bike turned off down the street from their shop. I called them and they could not give me an explanation as to why and they did not offer to take the bike in and fix it for free as I left them the bike running when I dropped it off.. Out of frustration I sold the bike two days later for $700 and the guy told me the shop had broke one of my spark plug wires when they put the gas tank back on causing it not to turn on. Thats the second time I took a bike there to have my carbs clean and paid almost $400. I do not recommend them due to poor service and their attitude about the people of that Community is unacceptable..
