Oh honey, Lauren is awesome! Im a newbie to the art world and she not only educated me on my class list but made me feel confident in my choices. Im on a budget and she even helped me find affordable alternatives so I could pursue my dreams. She helped me dig through the discount bin for a specific type of pastel and a piece of charcoal. Talk about above and beyond! This place was amazing. I wandered through it for quite a while dreaming and drooling. Go! Enjoy!
Over the past few years I have shopped regularly at the store. I have found the staff to be friendly and helpful…and, I love to support local businesses.Earlier this week I visited the store at 16th and Indian school to purchase supplies for an upcoming painting class. When I entered the store I was told that large handbags were not allowed in the store and they asked to take my bag to put behind the counter. My handbag was 8 inches by 8 inches by 3inches….which I don’t think would be considered a “large” bag. Additionally, I was in the store purchasing items last week carrying the same bag and it was not a problem then. I felt uncomfortable with their request and decided to leave and not purchase the supplies I needed. I instead purchased my supplies online, spending over $300 that I would have spent in the store.I can’t think of any other retail establishment where I have been asked to surrender my handbag. If they have this policy of no “large” bags, I suggest it be posted and clearly defined with exact measurements. After reviewing my purchases over the past two years I determined that I have spent over $2000 in the store. I won’t be returning. Maybe they would consider installing cameras if they have a thief problem rather than making customers feel unwelcome.
Every time i come in here i learn something new. They have more than i could possibly need in terms of art supplies. The employees know their stuff and are quite helpful!
The prices are great, as is the selection. The employees are knowledgeable and helpful, too! A local favorite.
My first review was overly harsh so let me clean this up a bit. Both times I have been at this store I found the prices high and little help from the employees. The employees arent the friendliest either and are not always wearing masks. The store has got a decent selection and they are the only real art store in the area. That may be the reason for the prices and service. I want to shop local, but I want to feel welcomed and am also an artist hurt by the pandemic so prices are important.
Ive never seen so many art associated items all in one place. I love this place
Way better than any of the big box stores. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable (because they are actual artists who care). I would much rather make the drive here than go down the street and deal with one of the other art stores. Nice selection of every type of art at reasonable prices. From spray paint to fine art supplies. Highly recommend
Absolutely huge art store full of all of the supplies you need! I was really impressed with the canvas section. (It was really exciting to find round and oval canvas finally)I have trouble finding spray paint by Montana in Hardcore, so I was incredibly impressed that not only did they carry it, but they had the colors I needed as well! The staff was friendly, and ready to help.Prices are so so.I definitely recommend a spot for all of your artist needs. Worth checking out and showing a friend
I wont shop here, due to feeling discriminated against for my large bag... which they politely asked me to leave at the register... and I did, without even thinking about it....until I started walking and suddenly realized I just gave up my accessory I use to help me stand up straight....and have less pain walking...and to hide my spine deformity. upon walking with the girl to the area of the gel pens, I explained to her that I really needed my bag back because it helps me by adding weight to my left side, therefore helping bring my posture back into alignment, and hides the deformity on my left side of my back.....she then said Im sorry but its store policy to leave large bags at the register. basically they figured I was going to steal something, or assumed i must not have money to buy anything....or some sort of prejudgment to that effect.... otherwise it would not have been a problem to give me back my bag i so desperately needed for my medical condition. when they refused to let me shop with my bag on my shoulder, I regained my bag and left the store....theres no way I could have done my shopping without it. which is really sad for me because I was looking forward to buying some gel pens, my friend told me the selection was impressive.what a bummer!!
Great place for teachers to load up on supplies. Also teacher discounts.
Great selection of montana spray paint.
Do not come here if you are at risk as the company only cares about their comfort rather than the safety of their customers. No one was wearing masks and they were somehow under the assumption that the mask mandate had been lifted even though it was only a recommendation by the governor. Get your facts straight at least.Update: my review is simply to inform people who are at risk that this is not a safe place to shop, and they should take their business elsewhere. They do not follow the pima county mask mandate that is still in effect. You cannot claim to enforce a mandate AND make exceptions for specific customers. The sign on their door is just for show. Love all the excuses they make though! Happy Easter! I’m glad you make donations lol but I’m not at all sure what that has to do with my review. If you’d like a cookie for that here you are!
It is amazing has great selections and service.
Good place for artists to obtain basic supplies.
It was awesome !!!! I love it the people were nice the art supplies was hella cheap I love it we might move there soon we love Arizona !!! And the art !!!!! Thank you also when i went in there I was overwhelmed with happyness !!
I always go to this place whenever I need supplies. They have it all. You want quality? Go to this place!
This store was a great help as a beginning hopeful “artist”. They were knowledgeable, caring, interested, and willing to go above and beyond to help me be successful at the start of my journey. I’ll be back!
The clerk who helped me, I think her name was Cassamdra, she gave me excellent service, helped me find colors I needed, checked prices for me and overall a great customer service experience
My first time in the store as someone whos moved from out of state. I will be driving past almost every day to work as an art therapist. Ill be stepping into the store frequently for my own self-care. Im grateful they carry many of my favorite art supplies! Paints and papers that I usually only see online anymore.
Great selection of pencils. A lot more than the other stores I visited.
This place us an Artist Dream. When we moved here 3 years ago it was like a kid walking into a candy store. Always helpful not busy. In and out.
Thank you for having people who know what they are doing and know different art medias ! Good job, Arizona art Supplies, you rock!
Fantastic selection and great prices. The staff is friendly and helpful without lurking. My fave art store in the valley and kind of ever...
Kind of worst experience ever whent in and was told i had to leave my bag behind the counter im sorry but i dont leave my bag anywhere i cant see it i had about 400 in there and was told i could leave it in my car ummm no one my window was broken and two i shouldnt have to i understand there need because of stealing but i had the money to buy anything in that store will be taking my services els where
Went here with my husband and toddler, and enjoyed every bit of it! Nice selection of art supplies, not to mention the staff was super friendly and very helpful! Will definitely be doing business here more often!
By far the BEST art supply store in Phoenix, period. ALWAYS have what Im looking for, staff ALWAYS ask if they can help-and they do, stock is ALWAYS on hand, the place is ALWAYS organized. clean and friendly! Why would you shop anywhere else!
I like this store but no one wears a mask inside. I guess I will find a safer place to shop. Like Jerrys Art o Rama. They mandate masks.
Excellent place to get all my art supplies, lots of parking and east access from the route 51 highway
Best art store. They have everything.
COMPLETE selection of Iwata airbrushes from their basic model all the way to their best of the best! They also have every accessory youd ever need and cleaning kits as well. Beats Amazons availability at every turn and is a local store to boot! Priced competitively and their staff know their stuff!
Excellent service always 👏👌👍
Great place.
My favorite art store! Friendly, helpful staff. You can find anything art there. Love it. I was bummed when I thought store had closed because your phone number is not working.
Great local business with a wide array of materials in just about any media you can imagine. Great customer service from knowledgeable staff - just about everyone Ive spoken with their has some background in the Arts. Kat Kurgan is a real treasure, if you happen to catch her on the days when she is in the store to be sure to pick her brain, shes forgotten more than most people know about art supplies! Im especially pleased with the oil and acrylic paints on offer. Thank goodness I dont have to drive to Tempe or wait for UPS every time I need to order something!
Excellent place, excellent prices and excellent people
Its a lovely store with great art supplies and friendly, helpful staff. Stop in, and be inspired.
This store is excellent!! I buy all my montana color gold and black cans here!
After moving from Laguna Beach, California to Mesa, Arizona in June of 2001, the art supplies store on Indian School was the only place I could find that was even close to what my former haunts at my favorite establishments in West LA, Laguna and Irvine could provide. For nearly 19 years, this business has kept me in business as a professional freelance motion picture concept designer, book illustrator and forensic reconstruction illustrator. After the vicious Great Recession crash of 2008, not only did they survive, but they kept me surviving. While I now work in Corrections down in Pinal County, they still provide every sort of Pencil, marker and ink I use in my continued and recovered art career. For the last three years since my wife became a professional abstract pour painter, they have provided every specialized tool and chemistry she needed--they had supplies that nobody else ever carries. The customer service and the discounts they continuously offer is beat only by the amount of consideration and outstanding customer service that our special needs ADA young adult son receives from every associate and manager he has ever met. This consideration has its own history of eighteen years. This business and their team are extraordinarily tolerant of customer family members who are severely, behaviorally disabled.
Great deals! But the service and customer awareness is not there. Its like shopping at a dollar store. None of look or act like they want to be there.SMH, guess Ill just order online from now on.
I love this place. Any art supplies needed they have. Painting, drawing, casting, sculpting, etc... They are friendly and knowledgeable. Products and prices range from novice to expert. Wish they had one on the west side but the closest to upper avenue SW side of Phx is Sun City location. We prefer this one to the other locations just because of the staff. They are awesome.
Staff is always super friendly and helpful. They have a great variety of supplies for any price range. My favorite and only place I shop for my art supplies.
I have been So excited to visit the store. And It is. Amazin let me tell you. However, I was accused of shoplifting. When I did no such thing and would never do such thing in my entire life, especially at a store that I plan to visit at least once a week. I did email them. They wrote back a very rude response. They said I was seen shoplifting an item that I dont even use which is watercolor pencil or something like that. I dont even know what theyre talking about that. I do not use watercolor. I have requested video. So hopefully I will get that. They went on to tell me that they have plastered my picture. Both locations, which is slander. So I will be speaking with a lawyer about this as well.
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST art store for the serious and passionate fine artist. Beginner, enthusiast or working professional. Best selection. Best prices. Best products. This is an art store. No hobbies or crafts. Focused on and for the fine artist. Ive done my art shopping here for over 20 years and never once, have I been disappointed. Being a Phoenix resident also allows me to shop in store for a more personalized experience. Interacting with a staff of passionate artists, like myself, makes my creative world all that much better. Simply put, the best fine art store in the state of Arizona. Wouldnt shop anywhere else.
This is one of my favs for art supplies. The staff are always available to answer questions or provide info on products, but one of the reasons I really like this store is because staff maintain a quiet atmosphere that allows for some creative thought. And I do appreciate that.
This place has almost everything you could think of involving art. From new student to professional grade. The people are super friendly and really nice. This store is really big and they have classes here. Iffy part of town, but this one is bigger than the one in Scottsdale so I usually go here.
A great store! Huge selection. Helpful and friendly staff.
Love the diversity in products, I can always find what Im looking for, and what I didnt know I needed. It can get pricey but its all worth it. The staff are friendly and attentive, after visiting once, I was hooked.
This store is heads and shoulders above any other store Ive gone to. The selection is excellent, but the real quality lies in the people who work there. All of them are artists in their own right, and if you have a project, you will always find knowledgeable input and advice from them. They also are very, very friendly, with an attitude of service and a willingness to do whatever they can to help you. Couldnt recommend this place enough!
Clay, ceramics and sculpting are my thing and has been for 45 years. I just got into painting a bit ago. I knew very little. I just came from AZ Art Supply. Now, w/ so more technical knowledge. I spent quite some time w/ Alex, a bright young painter and associate at the store. She gave me a brilliant tetorial on acrylic paints, canvases and wood surfaces to paint on. Thanks Alex, I am much more confident moving forward and AZ Art, give her a raise already!
They may not have EVERYTHING an artist needs, but they go a long way toward providing it. Good quality supplies and tools, classes, friendly assistance. Thumbs up.
No words can describe the experience and satisfaction with this place. Thank you to all the staff. Recommend you all to visit.
Great every time. Everything you could need plus friendly and helpful staff. Ive been coming to this store since I was a kid. Never disappointed and almost always walk out with something more then I had planned on. Wonderful place.
I found my artist voice back in 2014 and reclaimed it in 2018 while in Europe and although they carry my favorite paint just maybe they have had some thefts so they need some new sensitivity training.Customer service is not just about selling its getting to know the customer and i noticed they talk one way to some and others and yes i am referring to race.I may look young but im 41 and i know the difference of helping and profiling and maybe its there location as its in the heart of a very obscure area but for me its awesome. All in all id suggest that security is hired to relax the customer service as they represent a legacy in which art is its core and art is love.Thank you
All art supplys found here, great customer sevice
I coordinated the purchase and delivery of supplies for an event I was coordinating from afar. The team at Arizona Art was great to work with! I appreciated their attention to detail and great customer service. Would buy from them again.
Staff is friendly and they have a great selection of pencils and pastels. You can also purchase individual replacements or special colors.
What a great staff!! Helpful for the novice and welcoming to the newbie. I am impressed by the service and information . I will be back!
Its a great place to hang out and meet other artist. So MANY art supplies on this side of town. Theyre very helpful in helping me find exactly what I need. Oh! Did I mention the sale items are great, also.
Very nice, this store is an artists heaven so to speak. They have some pretty decent sales and affordable easels at that.
Helpful staff and plenty of options to choose from.
Has all my creative supply needs covered . Come on with a few more sales please ! Nice, helpful and easy to find .
I called for help with an oversize mat I need cut for a picture Im framing. The guy on the phone, Lee, was rude and unhelpful. At first he said they didnt carry what I needed, when I asked for his professional advice he suggest foamcore! Finally he ask his manager who said they can order it, and Lee added that it would take a while and they couldnt quote a time. He was really pushing me to not go with their company. Terrible salesman! I even told him he was doing a terrible job on selling me on it, to which he replied, so you dont want it then? He was far from attentive and had no desire to help me.
Honestly as a professional artist, I have spent over 5K in the last year here.. and today for my experience I will NEVER return! All I wanted to do was return as art book for my little girl and they wanted to give me a hard time and tell me about some return policy, first its 21 days, next its one item.. never used... the BOOK WAS BRAND NEW! Make up your mind! Do yourself a FAVOR and shop ONLINE and save the money.. this local art store doesnt care about your business and having a family they lost mine!
Very helpful staff, helped us find exactly what we were looking for.
Lots of good art supplies 👍👍👍👍👍
Great selection and prices. Staff is always knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant.
Lots a great art & craft supplies.
I think its the best place in town to get art supplies friendly and helpful staff
I moved into America couple of months back and the closest art supply store to me is Arizona art supply. Store has amazing collection. BUT all the 4 times I had been there i was asked to show my identity. I didnt have any on me and had to show my country s drivers license. Very unpleasant and uncomfortable experience for me . I am buying everything online now better to pay more for shipping then to be made uncomfortable by the staff and unwelcomed in thestore.
Great art store!!
Staff is great, friendly and knowledgeable. Huge selection of pretty much everything you might need for any art project.
Friendly and courteous staff. They have a great inventory of art and drafting supplies. No need to go hunting for what you need, its all here.
Today, Tuesday, June 19, 2018, my wife visited the AZ Art Supply store on 16th St. and Indian School Rd. She was shopping for paint supplies with my three young daughters. While in the store, my wife took my youngest daughter out of the cart so she could walk over to her other two sisters and my sister-in-law who were 20 feet away. As she took her out of the cart a male employee condescendingly called to my wife from behind the counter “EXCUSE ME MA’AM, please don’t let your daughter walk around the store unsupervised in the most egotistic, rude, and snotty manner possible. She responded by stating my daughter was simply walking over to her sister-in-law (an ADULT).My wife then, obviously, reconsidered purchasing any merchandise after such an embarrassing, degrading interaction. My older daughters asked why they had to leave suddenly and my wife truthfully told them because an employee just yelled at her and she won’t be spending money there. He apparently overheard and yelled at my wife AGAIN from the aisle over! At this point, trying to defensively protect my three daughters from his onslaught of inappropriate remarks, she stood up for herself and told him he had no right to speak to them like that.He continued to yell at her in front of customers, my daughters, and my sister-in-law--all of which occurred while two other employees, a male and female, stood by and did NOTHING.He argued with and berated her during the minute it took them to get to the door. She was shaken and horribly upset, so she took his picture to call and complain after leaving the store. HE THEN PROCEEDED TO FLIP HER OFF! This is unacceptable! And there are several witnesses. He should not be around customers or any service-related role. He should not be around women. He should not be around children. Im appalled an individual like this is employed here to begin with. How can you employ a sexist man who acts like that to a mother with three kids running errands in 100+ degree weather? Her safety felt jeopardized, and his body language, tone, and word choice made her feel extremely uncomfortable. It should be noted, regardless of what policy you have in place to limit children walking around your store, you have no idea what intellectual or physical limitations a child could be dealing with. And to chastise a mother like that, its absolutely an offense that warrants termination. I would bet there is no signage denoting a wandering child policy. Please see the photo of the sexist male employee who verbally attacked and yelled at my wife in front of my three young daughters. What a disgusting experience. I wonder what kind of hiring ethics this establishment incorporates.6/20/18 UPDATE in response to Susan:I cant imagine what kind of work environment your employees operate in--in which flipping a customer off earns them a 30 minute disciplinary conversation. You should also be aware, Arizona law doesnt require consent for this type of picture to be taken. Sorry, but it was not inappropriate. And how petty to say so.You reviewed tapes without audio, so I find it inconsequential to state you didnt find the scenario described above.Children pretending to paint one another with paint brushes is hardly a situation in which an employee needs to deploy OSHA training. His approach was humiliating and uncalled for, regardless of what he perceived our children to be doing. And if youre going to invest in OSHA training, you should think about training your employees on basic customer service skills (i.e. not yelling at a mother in front of her children and customers). Telling me hes from the east coast and thats just the way they talk is like saying boys will be boys--a risky sentiment in this social climate. The only element that my children, and my wife for that matter, were in danger of was this mans obviously sexist, degrading behavior. As I stated before, I highly doubt this will be the last issue you run into with a man of his nature. Its unfortunate youre attempting to lessen the severity of his actions.
As a childrens book illustrator, I am always pleased with their wide variety of art supplies and their associates are top notch and quite helpful...
Great place for to go to buy art project stuff. Always nice and friendly and very helpful customer services.
The selection here is great. However, it is often dfficult to find prices and my experience with the employees has been unpleasant every visit.
Great place to buy supplies, they have a great variety and tons of selections to chose from and they are extremely helpful to make sure you leave satisfied and can answer your questions and point you to the right direction a very comfortable environment to shop in.
My passion is drawing and pen and ink work. AAS has a very nice selection of drawing/drafting supplies, and Almost any pen one could possibly want, including imported pens from Italy, Germany, and Japan, AAS will also happily do special orders. Friendly staff, great selection.
This store has all the stuff you see on Amazon but in real life if youre impatient. Top brands, reasonable price.
Great inventory and staff who know about art supplies!
This place had everything my grand daughter was looking for to complete her art project. There was enough stuff there to give me a few ideas for some projects of my own.
Super helpful & informative. I really like it there!!
Dont go anywhere else, if you are a student or a real professional artist or just a hobbyists, this is the place for you. Its not the stuff there, but the people that make the place. They can help and answer all the questions you may have, not just workers but artist and peole who love art supplies just as much as you do.A wide paper selection always gets me to drive there, centrally located its not very far. I rather go there than other supply places. If you have even the smallest or dumbest questions, dont worry, they will help you.
My favorite art store IN THE WORLD is Arizona Art Supply on 16th St. in Phoenix. If you ever get a chance to go there they are reasonably priced, have friendly and helpful customer service and have practically everything an artist could ever want or need. Plus by spending your money at this store you are putting money into our community rather than the corporate companies like Blick. As a result of them being local, I think we get a better quality customer service. Plus as a US Navy veteran, it really brightens my day when I can stop into this awesome art store after a long day of not getting any answers at the VA Hospital down the road. They also understand the concept of service dogs. Unlike other art stores they have never challenged me when I come in with my dog. I cant say this for other art stores... especially in Tempe. (Although this review is about the location in Phx)
A lot of different types of art supplies. Nice Graff paint. Most of staff is nice and knowledgeable, one can be a prick.
I brought my three children + sister-in-law here last week to shop for watercolors. My two older kids + my SIL browsed together while I shopped with my 4yo. After a few mins, my 4yo asked to join her sisters + aunt a few aisles over. The moment my child was out of arms reach a male employee shouted at me from behind the counter, EXCUSE ME MAAM, do not let your child walk around the store unsupervised. I replied, Shes walking to my sister in law, thank you very much, then after a moment I decided I wasnt going to be purchasing anything after all. I put my items back + went to join my group to let them know we were leaving. They asked why I wasnt getting anything + when I said, I was just yelled at for letting ___ walk around, the male emp. shouted from the next aisle, I did not yell at you!!! + proceeded to yell at me about how he politely asked me to keep an eye on my child. I yelled back in defense, saying I wouldnt support a business who yells at their customers + he cont. yelling at me in front of my kids + other customers + two employees, until we left the store. I put the kids in the car, ran back inside to take his photo so that he could be reported to management, + then, from behind the counter, HE FLIPPED ME OFF.After I left the store I called my husband to let him know what happened. He urged me to report it to the store, but I was so shaken + humiliated by the entire incident I wanted to forget about it. We decided he would call on my behalf. He spoke with the stores GM, Susan Millstead, and she condescendingly justified the employees actions w/ several excuses, saying hes from the east coast + thats just how he is (a gross equivalent to boys will be boys), saying our daughters were touching paint brushes which isnt allowed, + that there are multiple signs around the store saying to watch your children. She even urged him several times to come to the store to watch the tapes for himself (presumably so he could witness my older children misbehaving ie, touching paint brushes, an action she couldnt stop referencing). In + to accusing him of slander, she also stated that because he was speaking on my behalf, it couldnt be trusted. Never mind she admitted to having her male employee on camera flipping me off.To justify flipping me off, she stated I didnt ask permission to take his photo. My children were not running around the store recklessly pulling products off the shelves + damaging property. Regardless of their behavior, this man had no right to treat us this way.Susan will, Im sure, respond saying that she has my older two on camera pretending to paint each others faces with paint brushes - as if its an actual crime worth her employees disgusting behavior. She will also state that because they have hazardous + poisonous materials UNLOCKED throughout the store, her employees are allowed to enforce these supervision rules however they deem fit for the childs safety. Shell also proudly go on + on about her employees being OSHA trained in the event a child consumes these UNLOCKED POISONOUS MATERIALS. Arizona Art Supply can invest in OSHA training but apparently they cannot invest in LOCKS for their POISONOUS materials. They also cannot afford to invest in proper customer service training.Shell also say the audio-less tapes show no evidence of her employee yelling. Shocker, as audio-less tapes dont include AUDIO.I wouldve been terminated on the spot in every one of my jobs for behavior like this. Its clear Arizona Art Supply HATES children. Speaking with several other families, I was quick to learn this was hardly an unusual incident + that many families have been made to feel extremely uncomfortable for even entering the store with their children. Their goal must be to push you out with rudeness before your kid has a chance to drink the unlocked paint thinner.PLEASE do not support AAS + their gross practices. They support their employees yelling at mothers in front of their young children + fully support their employees flipping off their customers.
Great selection of art supplies. A local business with great service.
Pretty awesome collection of art supplies, friendly helpful staff.
Very helpful and inviting! I had a special project and they went above the bar to help.
Super friendly staff
Although a nice store with great selection ...this store is way overpriced. I find everything between Blicks Art store in Tempe and Michaels for much less! Blicks is excellent art store and Michaels has awesome deals on paint and canvas.Way cheaper than AZ Art Supply even when they are on sale. You will go broke there!FYI- Blicks & Michaels are both national chain art stires and buy in volume so prices are way way way lower! The smart artist shops and compares to avoid Starving Artist Syndrome!!
Great pen/marker section, they have every brand!
Very knowledgable, very helpfull
They do have the largest inventory around. A lot of there stuff is expensive though especially airbrush stuff 200-300% more on some items than if u order online.
They have a great selection for the beginner and the person who is an every day artist.
Great selection and staff
Well stocked store with helpful employees. Ive been doing here for a few years now.
Everything for art. Well stocked and nice people
