Offers take-out and socially distanced dine-in!This place is legit one of a kind. Let me just say... I have been coming to this place since I was a child. My parents have always LOVED this place and I grew up with this amazing food. When you visit Duck and Decanter you have to try a pocket sandwich, which you can make any sandwich with π I always get the tuna sandwich in a pita pocket πππ and obviously you have to have some pickle Spears on the side for your sandwich. Plus, for dessert, I would suggest so duck footprint shortbread cookies!I donβt usually dine-in anymore, but I do when I visit Duck and decanter because all their tables are distanced, sanitized, and I genuinely feel safe eating here.
Nice patio and easy access off of the freeway. Great selection of cheese and wine.
Nice atmosphere, outdoor seating, perfect for those who are still concerned about safety.
Really friendly staff, eager to help. Great tasting sandwiches with a variety of flavors that would please anyone.Wonderful and surprisingly vast selection of loose leaf teas. Honey, high quality cheeses, jams, hot sauces, and spices also for sale in their store.A beautiful and cozy wine room with an eclectic selection of inviting wines from all over the world.I love this place!
Not your typical sandwich shop. Its charming and unique with a wine bar and coffee bar. The selection of loose leaf tea and coffe beans for sale is huge! The sandwiches are to die for!!
Duck and Decanter was such a treat! Our first stop in Phoenix and weβve already deemed it the place weβll go for sandwiches. We were served by Gil, who had nothing but good things to say and good advice to give. The Briesciutto sandwich and Chef salad we both outstanding, as well as being generous.Itβs got a great vibe, and fantastic staff. Do yourself a favor and stop by!
Find this gem today when I was walking and refused to do takeout Starbucks. I wanted e sit down place. Very quaint place. Was very impressed. Very out of the way, never would have came across it if I was not walking though. I will be back
Great experience! Tons to look at and experience. Beautiful place. The menu is awesome. The food was good. My hot sandwich wasnt even warm. The grated Swiss was even trying to melt. But the meat was good and bread was good! Got some small cheeses samples for cheap! Cant wait to try them. Ill Be back... Ill just make sure I specify I want my Hot sandwich.. You know.. Hot.. And meltyyyy
Better than ever - love the new look but same coziness inside and the food is as delicious as always.
I had been wanting to try this place for a long time, It did not disappoint! Great food, cool vibes, & lots of goodies. Will definitely return and recommend!
Duck and Decanter is always awesome and the outdoor seating area is great. There is more space for people to eat. The food is great. You cant go wrong with the Albacore Tuna or the Smoky Forest.
Albacore tuna on marbled rye with the works. Hit the spot π―
We had the Duckling and the Fiery Italian. Neither came with much meat and the flavor was rather bland. The dominant flavor in the Duckling was smoke and sweet and thatβs about it. The Italian was just salami. Not bad sandwiches mind you, but for the price I could easily make 10 sandwiches that tasted better without much effort.
I used to go there years ago...went there last week and the sandwich was delicious. Cant wait to go back again...
Sandwich was kind of small but tasted great. Staff run like machines.
My favorite sandwich shop for sure amazing food π
I had not been to this place in 20 years! It is as good as I remembered. Good quality cold cuts with delicious bread and condiments. This was the first time I ate out since the pandemic, and I felt safe. They have lots of outdoor seating.
Excellent service & selection of meats, cheeses, teas, coffee, beers and wine and much more! Even a great selection of gluten free crackers. You can make a little cheese board for your group by selecting which cheese and meats youd like.Awesome patio to bring family, the dog, whomever! Great relaxing vibe, some shaded areas and outdoor tables all around.
They make great sandwiches and the atmosphere is warm and inviting!
This is a great local sandwich shop thats been around for years. Theyve got a fun little shop inside with gourmet grocery items and other eclectic goods. You cant go wrong here.
One of my favorite places. Staff is always super nice. Best sandwiches in town.
Friendly staff, tasty food yet little over priced.
The sandwiches are excellent. You have Lambic. Yumm
I adore this little store. The sandwiches are really the best and I always find little gifts and things to try on the shelves. The pet friendly outdoor patio is a bonus.
The front has changed but the store, food, coffee, tea, wine/beer remain the same. Especially the employees. Please support your local restaurants during this time. Pet friendly with water bowls and cold water out front. Yes!
Duck and decanter is still one of the best lil delis in the valley. Keep killing it guys!
Lovely big deli with an awesome selection of sandwiches, cheeses, wines, and everything youd expect from a deli.
Great atmosphere, lovely patios and the smells once you walk in are amazing! I also really like that there mini versions of the sandwiches and salads.
I love this place! Itβs well worth the 30 minute drive to get here! Their sandwiches are great and they have a very large selection on the menu that is very customizable. I absolutely love the atmosphere of this place too! Iβd recommend it to anyone!
So original and fun. Its a deli. They have items to buy as well from books to ice cube trays . Id recommend sitting upstairs
Delicious fresh made sandwiches and local delicacies.
Ive been coming to the Duck & Decanter for over 40yrs, absolutely love this unique place! I highly recommend it.
Used to love this restaurant but have recently ordered takeout and the quality just isnt the same. The sandwiches used to be much better with more generous portions of meat (pastrami roast beef, etc...) but now there is an attempt to overcompensate with larger portions of tomato. Very sad but wont be going back
Best Family Owned Sandwich Spot!Definitely 1 of the Best in Phoenix!!
Nice place with great outdoor sitting options.
Im 59 years old (for another 2.5 months). When I was a kid I worked at the Duck making sannies. The founders, Earl and Dort, treated me the way I would hope that my own daughter would be treated when she takes a job.One of the benefits as a worker at The Duck was that we got to have our own lunch from the menu when we worked a shift. I never grew tired of those lunches.Today, my family and I order our favs 2 or 3 times a month. I always hunt in the cooler for some of Rubies Fudge. Its not always there, but when it is Im in heaven. The tea is a beautiful companion as is some of the potatoe salad or a bag of chips. The centerpiece will always be the sannies. Best in the valley. Nothing holds a candle to a nooner at the Duck. If you eat there you know what I mean. If you havent had the pleasure, then I suggest you go there now. Youll be glad you did.One last thing. This place brings good luck to the patrons. Case and point: My wife also worked at the Duck when she was a kid. She and I did not meet there, but I firmly believe that good luck came to us because we both worked there.Dont believe me?I had other fun things happen when I started working there that cannot be explained except to say that I was a bit lucky by working there. My family moved from Santa Fe New Mexico when I was 15. I started working at The Duck at 16. I discovered that two other people from Santa Fe were working there also: Maggie Schnieder and Peter Janisch.Today, Im lucky because I have got myself all worked up into a hankerin fer a beautiful turkey on french with everything. Thatll be my lunch today. Cannot wait!
Great food, and a friendly staff in an interesting building. Worth the money. Good place to go for a first lunch date together
Great sandwiches for breakfast and lunch
The impeccable institution that taught tuna and all things delicious to Phoenix :) come have a nooner!
Great food. Good people. The ice tea selections are awesome π
Love βMom & Popβ places? This is a hidden gem that has a long history in the valley. Cute place that works well for any meal. We did not explore the wine area or outdoor patio. The pita bread was delicious! The sandwich was HUGE! I enjoyed an egg salad sandwich. I will return whenever I am in the area. Be patient when driving in parking area to find it. It is worth the few minutes it takes to spot the restaurant. Food is fresh, reasonable prices and the restaurant is clean. Many locals seem to be regulars here due to the quality of ingredients and friendly service.
We love their sandwiches!
My first time here and it was delicious and the people are so sweet.
The sandwiches were all great. Be careful of the horse radish, its mighty powerful. There is a cute tiny bar and lots of outdoor seating with a real wood burning fireplace. Huge assortment of wine to go and lots of exotic cheeses, etc. A warm and lovely place! Family owned and operated.
Been driving by for more than 20 years and finally decided to try them out and my son really liked the sandwich that he order, he liked the old style restaurant, in the other hand it is over price, will came back for a second try.
If you have read my reviews, I do not give out low Marks to often. I have heard a lot about this place, very disappointed in experience. Place was hot, not busy(3 other customers), slow (about 25 minutes for my sandwich), pricey for quality of food, bread was hard, meat was tasty. Setting is kind of unique and special, but too hot to enjoy it, maybe it is the COVID atmosphere, or maybe they could turn on the air conditioning, after all, we live in AZ, its not a surprise it will be hot. A few really good places that are close to here that I will go to in the future. This is not my type of place. Im not saying to stay away, maybe it was a bad day for them, possibly a bad moment, you decide. They have been around a long time, they are doing something right.
Love the Duck! Friendly, delicious and a charming atmosphere. Wheres the Beef!!! Great vegetarian sandwich! Always a wonderful beer and wine selection with friendly and knowledgeable assistance.
Have a nooner at the Duck. Really good sandwiches and an expansive wine and beer bar. Several patios and indoor spaces to eat from.
I love their Tuna Sandwiches and I can find my favorite herbal teas there. I try to go there for lunch whenever Iβm in Phoenix and sadly itβs not often enough!!!
Best tuna sandwich! We drive 2 hours just for this sandwich.
It was great as always. Ive never had anything bad at Duck and Decanter. The staff is always so helpful and super courteous. Today I had egg salad and it was very tasty. Im not sure how to make hard boiled eggs so marvelous!!
A classic drink some wine have a nooner
I love Duck and Decanter. When they put Highway 51 in I was so happy that Duck and Decanter held their ground. Great sandwiches Great service. I love their system and how they take your order so you can shop for tea, wine, honey, or a card. Then grab your sandwich and sit outside, inside, upstairs or downstairs. I love the atmosphere! Dear God, please keep Duck and Decanter in business forever!
Enjoyed the updated patio area. Missed the music.
Its not as I remember it thirty years ago, but still a familiar quaint place to enjoy an adult beverage and a quality sandwich π₯ͺ.
We like to stop in on Saturday After the uptown farmers market. We usually have the dog with, and they have a dog friendly outdoor patio. They usually have live music also on Saturday. I got the curried chicken salad on a salad, yum. And my husband had the Genoa sandwich. Always a great choice with a chill atmosphere. Vibe is like going back to 70s California.
Eclectic place. Prepared food. Eat in or take out. Dog-friendly patio. Try the cheese plate. Gr8 sandwiches. Extensive, reasonably-priced wine selection. Also sells small gifts--kitchen gadgets, boxed crackers, etc.
Hadnt been here for years. So nice to walk in and find the same atmosphere as before. Prices are great. Service is cheerful and helpful. Food is delicious. Live music outside was nice.
Been 20 yrs since I have been... drove 2 hrs to take my wife and it was amazing thx...
It was really far from Mesa, but the food was great! I got a roast beef on sourdough with Swiss cheese and spicy brown mustard and tomatoes and they had Kettles chips called New York Cheddar and everything was really really good! The staff were very helpful and nice and we really enjoyed the time we spent there! I would give them 100 stars, if I could! πΎπΎ
There are many things to like about this place. Coffee is good, wine is a hefty pour for very reasonable prices, and deli items are tasty. It has an outdoor patio that is very pleasant in good weather as the place is tucked away from traffic. I love that you can get anything from just a coffee or tea drink to a full meal any time of day. There is also a small, intimate bar that caters to locals. Theres live music most Saturday afternoons. I love that there are no televisions in most of the seating areas. I hold my meet up group there.I do wish theyd upgrade the furniture, especially upstairs. Chairs could definitely be more comfortable and stylish. And a bathroom inside, rather than outside the main building, would be helpful. Also, its pretty hard to find if youre not familiar with it. But its a Phoenix institution and I hope it sticks around.
Resturant is overrated, sandwhich pretty blah and the amount of sandwhich contents placed between two slices of dry bread was laughable. The girl at cash register looked miserable... unfriendly/no smile/no appreciation for my business expressed. Save you money and head to Miracle Mile Deli just a few blocks away.
Brother and I were sick after eating sandwiches with fermented raspberry relish. This location is pretty grungy and not too classy if youβre into that.
Today i spent 37 dollars on 3 sandwiches. None of wich were made to order. In light of current situations, i dont feel comfortable returning to the establishment. Toasted or heated, in my oppinion, constitutes warm meat and melted cheese. Of those qualifications, we received neither. Attention to detail and pride in your food. Please live up to your accomplishments next time.
Nice safe outdoor seating great foodFriendly staff
Seriously one of my favorite places. Iβve been eating here for over 20 years. Great sandwiches and unique treats. So good.
Always love this place. Good food, great beer and wine and wonderful relaxed atmosphere!
Ive been going here for over 30 years and each year D&D goes downhill a bit in quality each time. Sad. I think this was my last trip.
Love the little shop they have as well as being a sandwich/salad place! Its very pricy of course but thats because the quality of their products is on point. It smells nice in there, very calm vibes, and the patio area is awesome and dog friendly
Every sandwich I have had here is great! The bread is delicious and the ingredients are super fresh!
I havent been back to the Duck in about fifteen years. Place feels the exact same and the sandwiches, my God they are just as good as when I was a kid. The sandwiches feel a tad bit pricey for the size but boy are they delicious.
Iconic outdoor eatery in Phoenix - been serving great salads, soups and sandwiches since 1972. A lot of changes - several of their stores have closed but the one on Camelback is still plugging away. Great place to enjoy outdoor dining and especially when Phoenix is experiencing Spring in March. My favorite is the albacore tuna salad which features two scoops on a bed of greens with a slice of rye bread, a slice of Swiss cheese and rice vinegar on the side. A perfect salad.
The sandwiches were good. Im not a big fan of country music tho. Just not my vibe.
This is been my favorite sandwich shop since I was in high school 40 + yrs ago with it was a farm house/sandwich shop and that was a long time ago! This quite Tucktaway sandwich shop in the hub of the city off Camelback is charming. Sit by the fireplace listen to a little music, itβs one of those great places that still has live music (I believe they even have open mic) a beautiful wine bar, coffee bar cheese bar and deli . Go upstairs & enjoy the comfort of friends with a boardgame sipping your favorite coffee or wine. I love their good soups, my favorite- best tuna in townβΌοΈ Constance has her favorite which is the pastrami sandwich.
Always warm and welcoming! The cheese meat and fruit platter is my favorite! They sell specialty cheeses teas and some coffees.. wines with beer on tap.. And live tunes in a great atmosphere free parking and outside seating too or inside tucked away! Great for a date...or just to chill.. Check em out if ya havent been!
Always tasty and laid back, even during construction!
Oh my gosh another favorite on Camelback Rd. In Phoenix. The albacore on marble rye another sandwich to die for. They have been in business forever Ive eaten there since the 60s. Family owned great armosphere outside dining.
Great salads and sandwiches. Loved the store inside too. Lots of gourmet items. A variety of freshly brewed teas. A delightful area to sit outside in nice weather. Will definitely go again. Very reasonably priced.
Always love their sandwiches! Try The Whole Thing and enjoy your lunch on the lovely patio! Pets are welcome.
Clean & cool atmosphere, incredible customer service! Awesome local goods too!
The best sandwich shop in Az!
Wow, what a hidden Gem! I would never have found out about this place. Great prices a east coast cafe vibes. Spacious hangout study area upstairs. They play Go here on Sundays.
Wonderful wonderful place, you could try something new every time and never actually run out of new options.
Met friends & enjoyed our day outside. Good clean food. Gifts, occasional music & offer different beers & wines
Always loved this place. Its my favorite place for tea and sandwiches! And always highly recommend it to friends and family.
This is a delightful place with so much variety. There is always a delicious surprise to find. Lots of parking and great service. Oh... and cant forget the wines
Great as always! I have enjoyed going back for 20 years and the same friendly welcome, service and consistently good food.
My family and I began eating at Earl Mettlers (With family and partners) Duck and Decanter within a month of moving to Mesa, Arizona from Monarch Beach, California in June of 2001. Back then, I was a full time partner in a security corporation while being a full time motion-picture and book illustrator. The profound differences in the manner in which foods were presented and the recipes created around Phoenix as opposed to the Beach Cities of Orange County, California were quite injurious to my palate. Finding something good around town was quite laborious. And I was no fan of Deli foods. Deli foods--Yuck!--Then my wife made me try the The Duck--NOT so at the Duck! Earls Duck and Earls familys service were exactly what I expected anywhere between the Grapevine on the North of LA County and San Ysidro at the border! We had business in Phoenix on a weekly, sometimes nightly basis and averaged approximately twenty-to-thirty visits per year until we moved to Pinal County in 2012 due to the needs of my late-in-life-career in Corrections. The food was always consistently outstanding and fresh--just like what I always expected from all my favorite haunts in California--with the meats, cheeses and condiments being absolutely fresh and clean. Now we eat at the Duck and Decanter approximately eighteen times per year due to the demands of my job and our schedule as parents of a young adult with special needs--speaking of ADA issues: Nobody in business in Arizona has consistently treated our special needs young adult from birth to adulthood with more kindness, tolerance and consistency than Earl Mettler, his granddaughter, the rest of his family, partners, employees and associates. Our son cannot wait for each opportunity to return. Only at the Duck, do I eat sandwiches. Im NOT a bread-eater. I wont eat bread or sandwiches at home. ONLY at the Duck! Only in Europe or in Phoenix at the Duck do I eat soup! The only baked goods better than those at the Duck are those I find around Europe, and/or those in my mothers or wifes kitchen at home. As for Earl, Im a Veteran who specializes in the history of a certain special team of other Veterans, and anybody eating at the Duck is supporting a family predicated upon National Service. We are a family of first responders employed by the state who appreciate EVERY bite of food we get at the Duck! None in our family have ever seen another Nooner customer unhappy. Our sons doctors all eat at the Duck. Everybody should eat at the Duck.
5 STAR CUSTOMER SERVICE ALL THE WAY. The sandwiches and deli foods are delicious. I enjoy shopping there for special blends of tea and coffee. A fantastic place to create a food basket gift. Love love love.
