Love this little coffee shop! Friends recommended this place near the strip district and very glad we came.Wife had the smore mocha and I had the plain drip. I normally dont drink my coffee black, but their coffee was very smooth. They had a fantastic variety of unique mixers for drinks and a great selection in their retail area. The ambiance was also very nice, spacious yet homey.5/5 will be back next time in Pittsburgh!
So glad that we decided to get our lazy bones out of bed and try this place on the first day of their fall drink menu. Now I have to say at the beginning that the food was soooo good that I forgot to take pictures, but I will rectify that when we go back. And we will be back very soon while on our staycation. The service is awesome, super sweet college aged kids who are friendly and upbeat who checked in to make sure we loved everything, which we did. A huge, and very pleasant surprise was that my favorite artist, The Art of Seth, is being featured so it was wonderful to peruse their “gift shop “ area. Bottom line, the food, the drinks, the service, the staff, and the atmosphere were stellar. A great breakfast spot and if you get there before 9:30 super easy to get a great seat.
Coffee has great body to it.I had a light roast, and it was full body, no watering down. The staff are quick, kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Seriously. And its family owned and operated. They help out in the community when they can as a business.Anyone with dietary restrictions can come here and get excellent food for a price that I was shocked to see so reasonable. They got a circle of Goat Cheese for 11 $ that would cost 20$ at a grocery store.Just go check it out! Even the parking isnt hard!!
Beautiful building and layout. However today I had the absolutely worst Dirty Chai tea latte ever. Tasted like soiled dishpan water and cost nearly 7 dollars. I couldnt drink it and Im not very picky. Very disappointed.
Seriously one of my favorite spots in the ‘Burgh. Quiet place to work? Check. Amazing whole food offerings? Check. Smooth, non-acidic in-house roasts? Check. Date night cocktails? Also check. They have it all. The service is always on point and everyone who works there is committed to excellence.
I have tried many coffee shops in Pittsburgh this is one of the two best.
Great place for a coffee and the workers were friendly and very helpful.
Lovely drinks and nibbles. Charming, knowledgable staff. Perfect spot to take a break or grab something to fuel a local mini-adventure.
Excellent coffee. Great selections. The staff was incredibly warm and helpful. Great spot and Ill be looking for other locations. Highly recommended.
Nice cafe. I enjoyed the Americano I got. Will definitely go back again
Cute coffee shop sort of hidden off the main street in the Strip District. We found it because we saw a small sign on the main thoroughfare right by the parking area we used. I had the Pa Cuban and it was awesome! My husband had a smoothie, hes not much into coffee. He said it was good. Hes not much into reviews either. 😃 The smell of the coffee outside will lure any coffee drinker inside. I would like to return to try more of their offerings.
Their in house chai is amazing! Actually tastes like good chai and not unnecessarily sweetened! The vibe is great to work or read as well.
I recently moved to Pittsburgh and have been searching for a lavender latte that compares to my favorite lavender latte from my hometown, and I’m so pumped to have finally found one here at De Fer! Their lavender vanilla latte is SO GOOD. You should definitely check them out!
All the De Fer locations are fantastic. I cant wait to try their quiche, but all their drinks are delicious and the baristas are very friendly.
Get the Coffee Old Fashioned! Space is limited but if you want some amazing coffee, cocktails and art, youll wait in line at De Fer for a breakfast panini and strawberry banana smoothie. Staff is friendly and efficient, great vibe for a quick bite or drink.
Love the ambiance and their coffee! Their cups are compostable too! Good place to work for a while and hang out.
This is my favorite coffee shop. They have such a great, unique menu of coffee and drink items. I get something different every time. I recently had their honey clove coffee drink with a breakfast sandwich and they were delicious. They also have a good selection of sparkling shrubs, which are like a sparkling juice made with fresh fruit. I dont think Ive seen those at another coffee shop. Really cute shop with a lot of goods you can buy there like craft bitters, teas, chocolates, honey. They also have cocktails and beer too. I cant say enough good things about this place!
Cool place, good coffee, craft beer and cocktails available too
Great place! They offer verity of products including tea, coffee, wine, spirits, clothing, art, etc... I got a cold nitro Brew coffee and my partner opted for rose. Her rose was a little on a drier side but delicious and nitro Brew was very very good. The place has very hype ambiance. The music is great! Its a great place to sit and enjoy or get some work done. They also have some out door seating as well.
Great coffee, great atmosphere, the little details count!
Attracted by the live music. Wanted to sit down and enjoy the music, so ordered a coffee. The barista said the band is going to be playing for another 20 mins, but they stopped and left before we even got the coffee. The barista couldve said Sorry they are about to leave but come again at xxx time. Why do u have to lie?
This is the best coffee shop I’ve been to in Pittsburgh. Food is excellent, the staff are kind, and the workspace is wonderful! Only request is to slightly improve wifi, but seriously this place is a gem!!
I love this place. The coffee is amazing, the food is delicious, and I love their seasonal adult beverages. The employees are always so nice and have great recommendations.
Great place to go. They had/have Gesha beans, tried it for the first time as a pour over, amazing.
I’m so glad we stumbled upon this place!! What a hidden gem. The latte was so well made and delicious. I got a brownie that was rich and chocolatey and so fresh. My husband tried the Manhattan drink and said it was the best drink he had in a long time. The staff was so friendly and the service was outstanding. I enjoyed the open air environment on a nice spring day.
Great coffee, food and customer service! Employees were seriously on it. Plus they have good COVID protocol. Highly recommend.
High quality coffee with talented and friendly workers.Great place to purchase more enthusiast level coffee and tea tools/equipment, and also check out local beans, art, and (pre-pandemic) live music on certain occasions! If you want cheap, average coffee, this may not be the place for you- but if you want legitimately good coffee from knowledgeable folks, De Fer is a must.
Neighborhood gem! Trendy little cafe with artwork and other products for sale. The staff are always kind.
This place is great! Staff is super friendly, coffee and food is amazing, and great atmosphere
Went for a jazz show which was cool, but the cocktails were pretty bad. i got a french 75 and it was weirdly warm and the gin was horrible. the glass of cava i had was fine but my partners manhattan was also bad
Great atmosphere and wonderful staff. Coffee is amazing and tried a panini for the first time today!
De Fer Coffee & Tea has a good variety of sandwiches as well as soups and salads. The sandwiches go from the basics (turkey, ham, corn beef, etc...) to more gourmet types of sandwiches that can include vegetables, cheeses, dressings. Choice of breads too. We both had the Barnard street club which was a mix of ham, turkey, Swiss, BLT and cucumbers. Delicious! Highly recommend. Plenty of seating. Also have a big breakfast menu. Very good service
Great staff and delicious food and drinks
Cool wall mural, art hanging on the walls. Absolutely delicious latte.
Awesome coffee, cool place inside!
Staff was really nice and super helpful. Was looking for local made items for holiday gifts and was happy to find a good selection to choose from! And the shop is spacious too, allowing for social distancing.
Easily some of the best breakfast sandwiches in town! Absolutely delicious
I ordered a latte here. The espresso was burnt tasting. The drink was not enjoyable. Ive been scared to try it again
Perfect classic cocktails with a twist, always something special on draft, and lots of tasty bites! Also a great place for gifts like art and ceramics. The service has always been friendly and helpful. Two tables outside that are great for people watching!
This place is SO COOL. Im a little bit of a coffee baby; I love coffee, but I usually hit it with cream and sugar and flavors - basically, I love coffee as a medium for other stuff. But this place is slightly changing my mind with their weird experimental stuff and their killer desserts. I dont like black coffee, and I cant physically bring myself to drink espresso. But I got an espresso here served in (basically) a tall shooter glass with ice cream in the bottom and honey mixed in, and after like one minute the ice cream had melted into a buttery smooth creamy foam and dispersed all through the coffee. It wasnt sweet. No sir, not sweet at all, not like I like it. But I LOVED that drink. I feel like I can taste it every time I think about it, its crazy. I also got tiramisu, which, pretty standard in Pittsburgh. But whereas most of the tiramisu youll find in the city is a small single-serve dessert, I was given a huge slab of it here. As in, they had to have MADE it in a real pan, for real, as tiramisu is supposed to be made. And it has spoiled me on tiramisu, I cant get it anywhere else anymore. Also, like most indie coffee shops, they sell proprietary coffee there, as well as some coffee making supplies. But, they also have loose leaf teas, local honeys and sauces and stuff, and theres even a little free book section full of kids books. Plus the decor is awesome, obviously, just look at the pictures.Definitely drop in, DEFINITELY.
Edit: These really are some of the friendliest people in coffee in Pittsburgh, which aside from the great coffee, is what will keep me going back. They reached out to me and did their best to resolve the issue below and I appreciate their effort as a lot of businesses wouldve shrugged this off and/or taken the criticism poorly. Much respect.Original:I love you guys, but please up your delivery packing game. A flimsy plastic cup in no bag or holder made me have to scramble when my driver arrived and I ended up dropping my drink. There was also no straw. I ordered a sandwich as well and if you ask me, it wouldve been nice to have that in a paper bag with the drink to stabilize things. Instead my driver showed up with the terrible cup on top of my sandwich box. I dropped my cup trying to juggle the items and the door and the cup literally split right in half even though the lid stayed on...
Great coffee for sure but always a wait.
I’m in love with this city because of cool places like this!
Ive ordered from this place like 5 times in the past couple months, it has become my weekend treat. The coffee is always excellent and they have such interesting flavored lattes. Ive ordered the ice coffee too, and they make it strong enough to withstand the ice melting during delivery. Ive tried a couple of the paninnis and *chefs kiss*. And the earl grey yogurt bread??? Fantastic. Today I ordered the rosemary and sundried tomato scone and that is also delicious. I cant do too much sugar in the morning and their baked goods hit a perfect balance of sweet and savory that is perfect for breakfast.Definitely my favorite coffee shop in the city now, I cant wait to finally visit in person when the pandemic is over. Right now it is a long-distance love affair lol.
Yuuuuuummmmyyyy! The smell of those sandwiches touch your nose as soon as you walk in! I finally decided to try one today. Boy oh boy! Best freaking grilled panini ever. I love love cheese. This is a beautiful cheese. The sandwich never had a chance making it to a destination! Very warming atmosphere. Gotta check out more sandwiches! Hhhmmmmm! Scrumptious!
Best cappuccino in town, coffee made with care in a great atmosphere
Cocktails are too lukewarm to justify the price
Amazing coffee. They are surviving covid. Cant wait until they open back up to have coffee I side and enjoy the atmosphere here.
My husband and I go here for breakfast pretty often. I usually get a breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee. It is a good reliable breakfast place, it is a touch crowded on the weekend, but the service is fast, and the everything is very clean,.
Breakfast panini was amazing! I will definitely be coming back. Also ordered an iced americano which was great as well.
I did not get to spend nearly enough time here but their coffee was delicious, plus they had really safe covid precautions in place, a great wall of provisions and beautiful art
Substantial coffee selections and incredible service! My workmates and I will definitely come back for more.
Better than Starbucks
Always the best coffee. Mocha with oat milk is so good, I once had the halloumi panini and it was awesome. Not the mention the staff is super friendly. And they sell local art, which is cool.
Easily the best cappuccino Ive ever had. Great flavor. So smooth. The cafe itself has a wonderful atmosphere and lovely staff. Highly recommend.
Tried an Americana for the first time, delicious! Thanks for the recommendation, super helpful staff!
Great customer service from the staff. On top of the great coffee and food and the convenient location and cool atmosphere, they gave me a coffee for free because they were having a problem with their merchant processing system after I inserted my credit card the wrong way. Instead of making it a big deal they said I could pay later and when I brought my coffee back they said it still wasn’t fixed and I could have it for free. Thanks!
This is the best coffee shop I have ever been to, hands down. The people, coffee, atmosphere, food, all just the best. Plus, its a great place for a date. I have almost all my first dates here. (but lets hope theres not to many more of those)
My first visit; got the tiramisu and some sort of lemon-tonic water-espresso drink. The former was great, the latter was incredible. I wish I remembered exactly what was in it - never had a coffee quite like it before. Chris, the man who served me, created it, taking the time to tell me about it and the daily roast I was allowed to sample. The vibe was chill, their sandwich selection impressive, and it seemed like a great place to relax at. Also, Im grateful they stayed open later than many of the other coffee houses in the area as I may not have visited otherwise. I really recommend giving De Fer a visit if you havent been here before and trying whatever their special seasonal drink is!
Great simple coffee!
Oh my goodness, this is easily the best coffee shop in Pittsburgh. Their coffee is amazing, the teas are perfect, and they even carry healthy animal products! There is lots of seating, and the location in the strip district is pretty perfect. I will be visiting this place every single time Im close by.
Amazing coffee and teas
This is the best coffee place in Pittsburgh, I really like the Cortado, also they have a great desserts, the staff there are really nice and willing to help you. Great customer service!
The espresso tonic was fantastic. Cant wait to try some items off the negroni menu!
I was expecting hipster attitude, and I got good coffee and a ragingly good breakfast sandwich in a warm, friendly setting. I was happy to eat crow with my breakfast. My guess is this place is a nice refuge when the Strip is super busy. Check it out!
I LOVE their espresso blends, so delicious, with friendly staff. I can walk there from my office, which is dangerous because I want to spend all my money there. Would definitely recommend, even if youre not a coffee person, youll like something here.
Excellent coffee, adult beverage, sandwich and Brunch establishment in the Strip District of Pittsburgh. I especially enjoyed my trip here with my daughter on Sunday. I enjoyed a single origin Latte along with a almond crescent. My daughter enjoyed a molasses coffee beverage.
Absolutely Amazing! Top quality food, friendly staff and the cakes….oh the cakes!! Definitely will return when we are back in the area.
Great place to go and try a new coffee. The owner is very knowledgeable about his brews, and imports his beans. Went to a coffee tasting there on Saturday. It was well worth the trip. We ordered some meat and cheese plates as well. Very high quality items on them. Definitely will be returning. Serious expresso coffee drinkers need to check out this place. He even roasts his beans there.
Among my favorites; atmosphere, service and goods are all excellent. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. Only down-side, limited parking in the Strip.
Love their loose teas!
My go-to coffeehouse in the strip district. The staff is amazing and they serve some Uber-delicious coffee options along with other seasonal items. Most of all - I love the atmosphere and vibe that they have with their decorations, lighting, and indoor/outdoor seating.
Good vibes. Great coffee. Friendly staff.
