We had a really wonderful time. The flow of the museum is really well done and there is a lot to do, so they really do a good job of making an immersive experience. I didnt realize that Warhol was a collector or that he created time capsules - that section of the museum could have been an entire day.We spent a good 3 and a half hours at the museum, and probably could have done another 1-2 hours to do absolutely everything. Well done and great staff! Highly recommend!

This is my favorite art museum, period. It blends his life, art, and popular culture in a beautiful and expressive way. The curators do a great job of presenting his early life and work, which brilliantly set you up to view his progression through the 70s and 80s. They also do a fantastic job of highlighting many of his collaborators and influences, which are key to Warhols story.I give this an unreserved recommendation and suggest you block a solid 3 hours to appreciate this exhibit.

This museum was the main reason to visit Pittsburgh. The collection of Andy Warhols art is not that impressive for a New Yorker because all major NYC museums have a lot more Warhols art. But the Pittsburghs museum has plenty of Warhols personal belongings such as cloths, shoes, letters, cameras, guest-lists, pictures etc. Also, The Andy Warhol Museum tells the story of the Artists life from the very beginning to the end. This part was particularly interesting for me.IMO, a must-see for every art lover if you visit Pittsburgh.

I have to say, this was not a pleasant experience, the only time a worker looked up from their phone was to tell me to pull my mask above my nose, not even to explain a painting or piece of art for me, also wearing a mask makes it difficult for me to breath so I at least have my nose uncovered to help, nor do I go anywhere while sick, also another worker kept droning around me saying back away from the paintings when I hadn’t touched or crossed the line, they were being a total buzzkill and made it hard to concentrate on what I was looking at, I’d have to say this was a waste of my time, today 10/16/2021 I have no illnesses meaning I shouldn’t have to wear a mask if I don’t want to

I was visiting Pittsburgh and found out once I arrived that there was an Andy Warhol museum. Now I’ve never really understood Warhol or the nature of his celebrity, and frankly was only moderately excited about the museum. But once I started the self guided tour I was hooked. I spent two and half hours in there, and it would have been longer had I not absent mindedly walked past the Grace Jones exhibit. I have walked away a Warhol fan and feel personally reinvigorated after seeing his work.

I was impressed at how this museum is put together. By focusing on a single artist, this museum offers a richer experience than most others. We get to construct a history of Warhol and understand his relationship to other artists in his life and how events shaped the art he produced. It also helps that he is such a popular artist that his subject matter is just fun to experience. The layout of the museum is a welcome change from many confusing branching paths typically seen in museums that leave you anxiously tracking where you are to make sure you arent missing out on parts of the museum or going in circles.

A lot to see at the Andy Warhol Museum. An artist, painter, film maker, jet setter, etc. Andy cut his own path and set the tempo for modern art of the 60s and 70s and beyond. We love his famous Campbells Soup Cans, his hundreds of time capsules. So much to take in and absorb, Andy Warhol was a trendsetter who grew up poor in Pittsburgh and became world famous and wealthy beyond his own expectations. He was a hoarder that kept everything and think its in these 7 stories. Sure wish I had some of his originals out there. Notice the guy in the photo impaled on the telephone pole after being ejected from the stolen car crash! Pepper Pot soup one of my favorites! A most memorable day we enjoyed when we visited here.

What a wonderful museum! Loved how in depth they went into the history of Andy Warhol. I learned quite a few things I hadn’t previously read before. Definitely one of the major highlights of our trip! Some things to note. When we went, they had some COVID precautions in place. They asked us to start at the top floor and work our way down in order to prevent excessive crossing of paths with other guests. I would actually recommend this regardless since chronologically the floors follow that order too. Also backpacks are not allowed past the front desk. There are however “free” lockers. Wonderful museum, easy to find and affordable parking located across the street. The museum cost is $20, but they have lots of discount categories. I got in for $10. There are 7 floors of art plus a basement. Some rooms have silver walls similar to Warhols Factory Studio. His work is spread out chronically starting on the 7th floor and moving down. There is a chronology wall on each floor and short films on a couple floors which show his progression. Warhol created a lot of large pieces. I was happy to see so many pieces in one place. One of my favorite installations was his Silver Clouds. I saw a room with silver pillow like balloons floating. I was surprised when invited in to interact with the exhibit, you could slap (gently) the clouds away. This was fun. Also, he did a lot of time capsules. Really interesting. One floor was closed, a couple rooms were closed due to social distancing requirements. There are areas for individuals who are blind to interact with Warhols work. The oddest thing in the museum to me was the 24 hour webcam on Warhols gravesite. Otherwise, really enjoyed the museum. I recommend budgeting 2 to 3 hours to enjoy everything.

I am not much of a fan of Andy Warhol, but my wife and I had several hours to invest in Pittsburgh before we could see family there. We decided to go to this museum, largely because we were basing our dislike of his work on very little knowledge of what his work was. Cost was $20 and street parking was $8.50 for the 2+ hours we were in the museum. It was easy to get to from a major highway.Im still not a fan of Andy Warhol, but Im much more aware of his real creativity and artistic talent. There were lots of examples of his commercial art, his paintings and his more well - known art (Campbell Soup Cans, etc.). But I also found that he was superb pencil drawer (my favorite exhibit was a simple drawing of a mother nursing her child - such love and trust shown through their glances!). Some of the things he did not seem all that difficult to do, but he figured out to do them first. Its a lot easier to copy than to think up! Some of his work you can look at and look at and still see more nuances as you look.I was surprised to learn of the practice of his Christian faith, something that was surely difficult for him given the tension between his practice and the churchs teachings. But he kept them together anyway. So overall, Im still not a fan of Andy Warhol, but Im glad I went because I know a lot more than I did before, and I appreciate the creativity and skill of his work more than I have in the past. I wouldnt mind going back.

This museum has two floors dedicated to rotating installations, which keeps Warhol works fresh with the dialog created by art. If you have a chance to catch an event here or an art opening please go. If you are traveling to Pittsburgh it is certainly among the top three places to explore. Andy made a catalog of work which spans several mediums and the influence he had pre-hashtag is something that is unrivaled to this day, where people pride themselves on being a digital influencer. You can impact so many lives through art and while Im not a big fan of his work, he has inspired me to keep involved in the discovery process of creation. The Warhol is not a tourist trap! This museum gave me tons of insight into Andy Warhol and his artwork, and was amazing. Only reason for four star rating instead of five is that there was an ABSOLUTE intolerance for taking masks off. I 100% believe that masks are required when entering a building, however the frustration of not being able to take pictures without it.. sucked. There was no one around except for the lady telling us to put on our masks. We respected this rule of course, but it was a little jarring that whenever no one else is in the room there is still someone telling you to keep it on.
