Our most recent experience with the folks at 3 Rivers Outdoor Co. was absolutely fantastic. They helped us get fitted for new backpacking packs. We talked to almost the entire staff at different times and they all gave great suggestions on everything from essentials to get to trails to use our new gear on! Looking forward to our outdoor adventures and visiting with the staff to find more expert advice.

My favorite outdoor store in Pittsburgh. There is an ever changing section of used gear, and well chosen new stock also. Best of all is the sense of place and community in the store. The owners and staff really care about helping you along on your adventure.

I would give 10 stars if it were an option. The owner of the store is very knowledgeable, the staff is kind, and there is a vast amount of camping, hiking, and outdoor gear that honestly surpasses even REI. Small shop, HUGE selection. If youre ever in the area, stop by this shop!!!

A little story in case you need even more reason to shop there:I bought a kayak this fall there after getting great advice from Chris. Shortly after getting it, a small plastic piece broke off the boat (due to no ones fault). I happened to mention it to Chris one day and he made it his mission to get it fixed. I would have probably not done anything about it because I didnt want to deal with the company and the kayak was still fully useable. Chris contacted the manufacturer and got a repair kit. He welded it back together but figured out it wasnt going to hold. Then, he contacted the company again, and in the end, he got them to agree to get me a new boat since there was no way to fully fix it. Until I get the new boat in, Chris made a temporary fix on it that will hold.The conclusion of this story is that you wouldnt get that kind of service at a big store. Three Rivers Outdoors carries brands that they trust and will provide excellent customer service.

Wonderful, knowledgeable staff and even other patrons! Had some lovely conversations and learned about a cool local hiking challenge. Had a really solid consignment selection. And best of all, DOG FRIENDLY!! 🐶🐾🦴

The most awesome gear store I’ve ever been in. All staffs are friendly and helpful. The owner is very knowledgeable about everything outdoor activities. Ask him anything and you will never be disappointed.The place also organizes trail running in Frick Park every Tuesday evening. Come running and get a free awesome beer after. Cheers 🍻

Yooooo this store is amazing. I could spend hours in here. They have it all and the staff is super helpful. Way better than the aloof staff at the alternative outdoor super store. Especially love all the local posters and stickers! So glad to have a place like this in Pittsburgh!!

I love this store! The staff is super helpful, and they keep a really good curated selection in a limited space. Plus, they have a consignment section which is the only place I know of to get second hand outdoor gear. On top of all that, they organize great community events every week. They are an incredible asset to the neighborhood!

Wonderful local outdoor shop! The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They have a great mix of local product and major outdoor gear brands. But be sure to check out their community events! They do weekly trail runs as well as hikes and outdoor film festivals. Definitely a spot to check out!

This place is such a wonderful addition to Pittsburgh! The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. If you have a question about a sport that one staff member does not have expertise in they will find someone who does. I’ve bought new gear and used gear, I’ve brought in consignment gear and accrued store credit, I’ve bought off the shelf and special ordered, and I’ve rented equipment. Each time has been a great experience, and I have nothing but praise. This is my go-to gear shop, and I recommend it becomes yours, too.

Im not an incredibly outdoorsy kind of guy, but this place is awesome! They always make me feel like I fit, even with my novice level, and are quick to offer advice and products to meet my needs. Always good to note that the shop is plain awesome. Great feeling, happy to support them.

Locally owned and operated by people who really know their stuff. Whether youre looking for new or used equipment or just advice about where the best places are locally and nationally, they have answers. Not ready or willing to financially commit to becoming a outdoor person yet? They have incredible rental packages and can outfit you with everything you need, but will never try to oversell you on gear you wont use. Cannot recommend highly enough.

My new favorite outdoor store!!! The store itself is set up great with all the top brands and gear. I picked up a Black Diamond pack Ive ever seen before. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Ample parking in their own lot which is so great in that area of the city. Check them out its definitely worth the trip!

This is the brst store in Allegheny Co. Seriously. Smallish space, but parking is easy, staff is ALWAYS nice, and they have everything you need or want. They carry Kavu and Patagonia.

Rented kayaks for a day-trip paddle on the Allegheny. Super easy pick-up and drop-off. Thanks 3ROC!

Eclectic shop thats bigger than it appears from outside, staffed by chill and helpful people who have hands on experience with the gear they sell. Shoutout to Chris in particular, who took half an hour out of his day to give me advice on gear and walk me through the features of a pack. They also offer some used equipment and host cool activities!

Great Shop and Great Folks running this place! Stepping through the door makes me feel like I just stepped into a little mountain town out west!!Please take the time to check them out. They truly are knowledgeable about their products and the sports they are promoting (Mt. Biking, Rock Climbing, Trail Running, Backpacking/Camping....). Not only are they bring in great gear, they also have some fun clothes and swag you won’t find at REI! Show this place some love by shopping small and shopping local...and grab a dog and a beer from D’s so you can stay and hang out at their fire pit!!!

Went in to get a pair of sunglasses. The owner was super knowledgeable about what the store offered. Ended up with a great pair of glasses for a great price...and the company that makes them is from Pittsburgh!

I like the idea. They have nice clothes and brands. A little bit expensive but, honestly, they have quality items. Its very small though and they dont have a large choice. I have found the guys working there to be a little too pushy. It has potential though. Plus they have a second hand section where you can sell or buy good stuff for cheaper prices.

Staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. Store is ultra comfortable and has an excellent vibe, and not just because of the wall sized topo map. So so so much quality gear; new and consigned. Classes and activity groups organized by the 3ROC staff and partners abound and are well publicized on social media and the website. Such a wonderful addition to the Swissvale biz community. So, what are you waiting for? Get down to 3ROC, gear up and get outside.

We love REI but its so great to have a community-based alternative! They have a great selection of womens gear and clothing which is awesome and much-appreciated - plus they will happily order something for you if they dont have what you need in-stock. Dont the personal care products from local herbalist, Apothecary Muse! Im really looking forward to their outdoor film screenings, too!

We are travelers from Germany, currently sleeping in our SUV and just started our trip driving from Kanada to Patagonia. We needed some equipment for this trip and searched online for an outdoor equipment shop. Then we found 3 Rivers Outdoor! We met Sebastian there, he gave us very good advice! he knew a lot about sleeping mats and gas cookers. He also gave us some tips about good camping nearby. We would definitely go again if we are in the area and need some help. Thanks Sebastian, the jetboil is awesome :-D

This shop is a very welcome addition to the pgh outdoor community. Great selection within the small space, friendly staff, attentive customer service, and the only dedicated used gear sale section that I know of in the region. I encourage you to support pghs only locally owned not-single-sport-specific outdoor shop!

One of the best places in PGH!

Extremely knowledgeable staff.I went in looking for some used climbing shoes, they did not have any in my size but the place is much larger inside than it looks from the street and the prices are great. I ended up just getting a black diamond climbing harness. They didnt just grab one off the wall they asked about what kind of climbing I was going to do than fitted a harness to me based on that. I could not be any happier.

Store is located in a very rough neighborhood. My car was broken into outside the store in broad daylight. I made the hiketo checkout the store, everything over priced, better off buying from Amazon or at north face outlet store, or LL Bean store at mall. Places have better process and selection, was pretty disappointed for winter sports, Willy s is even better and that is nut saying much. Why swissvale???

Super friendly staff and a great selection of new and used gear. Joe Joe was nice enough to show us directions to a few local climbing spots as well.

3Roc is local (Regent Square) and mission-inspired. The owners are down-to-earth. Their product choices have been vetted by their engagement w the outdoors. They want to create a community around the outdoors and outdoor activity and local engagement and friendliness. The store is cozy and bright at the same time. They have casual and technical clothes and gear, hiking shoes, packs, climbing gear, cycling stuff, kayaks, sundries and outdoor-themed. I like the woodcut print poster and cards of nearby Frick Park trails. The back room has camping gear and consignment items for resale. Im going to take some items in instead of selling them on eBay or sending to ThreadUp. 3Roc rents out some equipment. The store is dog-freindly. Their dog is the store greeter. First Friday of the month is Smores fire pit night in front of their store (next to Ds in Regent Square).
