My wife was greeted by the only employee with a poor attitude and unhelpful. When my wife asked about a natural bedframe she saw online, the person working responded that she needed more info otherwise she couldnt help because they are the futon shop and not a place for bed frames. So when I reframed the question and asked if they had any natural bed frames at all, she magically had a small selection to show us. All in all there was literally no one else there, no one in the parking lot and incredibly not busy. The employee working there had zero excuse to not be more helpful. It felt like she was just collecting a check and our presence was unwelcome. I thought that was your job...weird...it felt like we were interrupting your personal time somehow.

Would give 0 stars if I could. Came here today after searching website and had the exact style of futons I wanted to purchase, cash in hand. Upon showing up there was a customer ahead of us and the rep said “sorry can only allow one person in the store at a time.” Tried to tell this “sales person” that we know what we want but he was already shutting the door. Even asked how long would we have to wait and he just shrugged. With my 2 year old and 60 year old father in tow we waiting in the sun for 20 minutes watching the customer ahead of us just browse the store. My father became very angry, I called the store while out front and was sent straight to voicemail, the rep wasn’t even on the floor assisting the customer inside. My father was very upset and hope you guys understand you lost a customer who was looking to buy 2 futons full price cash!!!

A few weeks back, I walked into the Futon Shop at Pleasant Hill and was immediately greeted by George and Rudy. I was looking for a platform bed with drawers along with a new mattress. Rudy showed me what was available and encouraged me take my time and try out the different mattresses....take a nap if I wanted. He even played relaxing music while I laid on the mattresses! Bought a futon and topper from this store a couple of days ago. George and Frankie were both very helpful and made the shopping experience fun. We must have had them drag out over a dozen combinations of futons and toppers before we found a combination that was just right for us. George just kept pulling them out and setting them up for us the whole time, all the while very attentive and in good humor. This is the kind of product you really need to purchase in a store so you can feel and know what you are getting. The futons and toppers are very high quality. It looked like 99% of their customers were satisfied, but I was wary of the couple of negative reviews within the last few years suggesting their salesperson George was pushy. My wife and I just moved into a new place nearby in Concord. My wife was responsible for getting a couch, I was responsible for getting a futon for the office/guest bedroom. Here we are two weeks later, the couch is apparently still being made, and the office/guest bedroom has become the place to be, all because of our new futon. It was delivered and assembled 2 days after we bought it. George hooked it up. We were in and out in under 20 minutes (my wife and I both hate shopping), and our entire set-up cost under $1,000. The frame feels solid, like it will last at least fifteen years being used, and the mattress is breaking in nicely. And its beautiful! There is simply no better store to go to to buy a futon in the area. I highly recommend it if youre in the market for a new futon. George took care of us.

There has always been a Futon in my family, so it was only fitting for me to purchase one for my son. There are no more Futon Shops in the Oakland/Berkeley area, and because of that we chose to visit the shop in Pleasant Hill. We were greeted by a salesman by the name of George. OH MY GOD!! his professionalism, warmth, and personable attitude made it very easy for me to spend over $1000.00 for my futon. George took his time and explained every detail of the futons that we were interested in. After an hour of his patience, we decided on a beautiful wallhugger. I have never written a review of anything in my life, so take that as a mention of how truly weird, awkward, and uncomfortable my experience was when going to The Futon Shop in Pleasant Hill, CA.Please note that I did not purchase from this store, mainly as the customer service was so overbearing and terrible.Right when I walked in, the employee began repeating a comment that I made when I was walking into the store. He parroted me about five times, while completely intruding on a personal conversation with my wife. After the initial awkwardness subsided, the employee then said that that the cheapest piece they had in the store was “7000”. I thought he might be joking or was trying to be friendly, so in attempt to be nice I said, “maybe paseos, right?” The guy looked at me completely baffled and ignored me. Then made a complete topic twist and asked me about his age, proclaiming that he was much wiser than me. He then asked about my budget and mentioned how villainous it would be to buy anything under 700 dollars in his store, claiming that anyone who wouldn’t do that would be bad to their friends and family.Still assuming best intention, I asked him a few questions. Eventually he handed me the store’s catalogue. I asked him how I would know the prices, since none of them are listed, and he said “all you have to do is ask me”. Not wanting to ask the price on 200 different models, I got a little quiet. He then proceeded to talk about all the great sales he does and told a story about his fish, and how, at one point a kid was running around the store. I said, “Don’t worry we won’t run around.” He the. Proceeded to say, “What you don’t like jokes?” I went ahead and turned to my wife and said, “Okay, let’s leave.”If that story sounds weird and awkward, well, that is because it is. I don’t mean to be rude, but I feel like the guy really lacked any social finesse, and it was somewhat obvious that he had the job because they were desperate for workers or he was related to the owner.Do not purchase from this store unless you want to deal with an overbearing, socially inept, imposing salesman.

I was looking for a convertible bed sofa and was going to order on line since there is only 1 store in my area and I was not sure if they have the same one that I like online (from wayfair). So I decided to visit the Futon shop and hope that I will find the same one that I saw on line so I can actually test it out. First, I was impressed when I walked in the store as there are so many selections to choose from. I met George who is very knowledgeable about different kinds of Futon and he walked through the store to explain different types for me. He did not try to make a quick sale and took his time to answer my questions. The best part was I found the exact convertible sofa bed that I have been looking and the price is even lower than what I would have paid on line. I was able to see how I can pull out the sofa to lie down on it. Unfortunately he does not have the color I was looking for (with piping). George called me the next day and he let me know that he found the exactly color with piping that I like in his inventory. Few days later, it was delivered to me as promised. We had a really good experience from start to finish at The Futon Shop in Concord. It was easy to get to (if you drive, that is), and easy to browse. George was very knowledgeable and energetic. He answered all our questions and made good suggestions. Everything we needed to address was addressed.We were also really pleased that they now have in stock solid wood, Amish-made futon frames, as it is unfortunate, but common, that many frames are not particularly sturdy or high-quality. There are also a few made of ironwood that looked pretty solid, but a lot of the furniture (and this is not their fault, as they do not manufacture it) is pretty shoddy. Thats par for the course nowadays, and we understand there need to be many options at different price points, but luckily they have a few higher quality frames alongside the so-so stuff. And if your price point is a little lower, the so-so frames do not look too bad, and with care, one should last you 10 years.On that note, their organic mattress selection is high quality, and so is their variety of fabric for covers.Lastly, it took very little time for us to get our new sofa bed. They were able to manufacture and deliver the mattress very quickly, within a week. They had the frame in stock. The delivery guys were friendly, skilled and helpful in setting up the frame and showing us how to operate it. The futon is super comfy and the whole thing looks great!The only issue here for folks may be that its quite pricey - though in line with other Bay Area quality/local/organic shops. We received a standard discount, and that was terrific (though Im sure its all factored as part of the way they do business). Overall, we felt that the cost was completely worth it, because we got a well-made, quality product, locally manufactured organic/non-toxic and mildew (for our cool, moist climate) resistant mattress, a quality, solid-wood, American-made frame, and great service. Thanks George and staff; well come here again for sure if we need something similar!

I cannot recommend this store enough and I live in Nebraska. I fell across their website last November looking for a shikibuton (Japanese style futon mattress). George, the store manager, helped me place my order on Cyber Monday and I couldnt have been more pleased with the service and the mattress, not to mention the deal. A couple months later he sent me a sample of their coconut fiber mat thats bonded with natural latex to see if I would react (Im allergic to both forms of latex unfortunately) free of charge. Today George once again came to the rescue. Not only did he help me pick the best topper for my mattress; he also helped me order a shikibuton and topper for both of my girls. In an age where customer service has fallen by the wayside George and The Futon Shop are a rare gem. Definitely sign up for their email list for the best deals, today just proves that you dont have to wait for Cyber Monday to score.
