Back in 2017, Mr. Godish came to my business GBE Mandrel Bending Inc to have me duplicate an exhaust manifold for the model A. He requested 10 complete parts from design of the header flange to the duplication of a header he had on the wall from the 50s. He did not want to pay for the design or the completion of a jig so these parts would be proprietary to no one. After making the 10 headers, he came in to pick them up. I asked for payment, and he told me he wasnt ready to pay for them as he was going to sell them at the Portland Swap Meet and pay me then. I told him it was not our policy, but he had to at least pay 1/2 down for the release of them. Knowing he was in business for many years, I decided to accept $300 cash for a down payment, then when sold, he pays me the rest the following Monday. (in good faith) Well, Monday came around and no call, no money. I waited a week, then called him. He told me he sold ZERO and had no money to pay for these parts. I told him then he can return the 9 that he didnt pay for, and we would just end the verbal contract as I could sell them on my website or ebay to cover MY losses. He told me that he wanted to keep them and sell them, but he didnt have the money. I told him it was either bring back the headers or give me payment for hard work done. He said he would be down in a few days to pay them off as he knew they were worth the cost and he could sell them quickly online. Well, a few weeks passed (gave him extra time) and nothing. I called him and he would not take my calls. I sent him a registered letter to his home and his place of business demanding payment or I would take him to small claims. Nothing. So, after all this, I decided NOT to take him to small claims (pain for me for so little $$) and therefore after a year went by, I GAVE AWAY a model A cowl he had me hold for him in leu of payment that was worth $400 as it had a stainless trim band over the top of it and he told me he wanted that back asap. (guess he didnt want it THAT bad) and I made a few headers from my design and jig and sold them, but I still lost $900+ in this whole deal from Model A Ford Works. No calls, no contact, nothing. After this deal, EVERYONE who comes to my place of business gets nothing until paid in full. I lost trust in the older generation businesss because of him.
