Portland Sand and Gravel was great to work with. At first, the driver made a mistake in accidently dumping the stone and mulch we ordered in a mixed pile, making it very difficult to work with. They were quick to resolve the issue by removing the mixed pile and re-delivering the properly separated materials. Thank you so much for the responsive and helpful customer service!

Portland Sand and Gravel was great to work with. I will absolutely be using them to finishing my yard. At first, I ordered a smaller order of dirt and gravel to finish a smaller project. We went in with our neighbors on new garden beds and needed a lot of soil. Jim and the whole crew were AWESOME, simply put. I have had a delivery from them and also manyyyy visits to the yard to fill up my own containers, and all my experiences have been top notch. My partner and I are new to the DIY game and decided to make ourselves a patio. I had a lot to learn about cubic yards and 3/4 minus concrete and on and on. Everyone has been super friendly and I’ve felt comfortable driving around in their yard amongst giant trucks and bulldozers and such to get what I need. I never thought I’d have “brand loyalty” to a gravel yard but I do now!

Great place to recycle concrete, buy 3/4” minus, and you go through a wheel cleaning water Trough before you go back on the street. You don’t have to worry about the mud if it’s raining. Great job team, Portland streets remain clean.

Is so fun to explore this place! Its actually much bigger than it looks from the road. We have enjoyed the adventure of driving way back in to pick out boulders from the huge piles they have.I also appreciate that they use the honor system when it comes to bigger rocks.. We took what we wanted, walked into the office, told them what we had, and they rang it up, sight unseen. Its lovely to be trusted (and trustworthy!).We have also bought hemlock mulch here. The loader got to us quickly and he was very skillful at getting our order into our small truck bed.The customer service people are friendly, polite, and humorous.

Our driveway had turned into a giant mud pit and our cars were getting stuck so we turned to Portland Sand & Gravel Co to deliver gravel. They showed up the very next day, right on time, and did a great job working around our challenging power line situation to try and dump the gravel as spread out as possible, making as little work for me having to level it by hand as they could. Very friendly and great price- you wont regret choosing them for all those situations where you need lots and lots of tiny rocks. :)

Thank you Portland Sand and Gravel for the amazing customer experience! From my first phone call to my delivery this morning, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. The owner of the company delivered and spread the gravel himself and was incredible navigating my driveway and maneuvering around my home’s cables and wires overhead. The end result is beautiful and it was great value for the money, our entire driveway with delivery was just around $300. There’s a calculator on their website to help you determine how much you need and it was right on, we ended up overestimating just slightly which was great to help fill in areas that had deeper gaps. Overall an excellent experience start to finish!

Ive been going here for years but I really wish I didnt have to. Me and my employees are constantly degraded by there workers and told different locations to get loaded and unloaded. I dont think they know how to smile. THE PRICES ARE HIGH. I only go here when I have a project in the area and have to get material close. My employees literally argue about who has the chore of going here to pick up material. Most companies in this industry ( especially with so much available space! ) have a free dump for concrete or gravel, but they charge a hefty price. I recommend not going here.

We had a very poor experience with Portland Sand and Gravel. We ordered 9 yards of soil three-way mix “ready to plant” for our new garden beds this spring. We were so excited to have an early garden this year. We filled the beds and planted our seeds. Several weeks later most of the seeds had not sprouted and those that had would not grow past 1 inch tall! The starts that were transplanted were not growing either and the leaves were turning yellow. I planted a second time, thinking maybe it was old seeds or not enough water, but had the same result. Finally I tested the soil and found that it was completely deficient in nitrogen! (a seriously important part of quality garden soil. If there was any good compost at all in the mix this should not have happened.We called Portland sand and gravel with a complaint the manager expressed surprise saying that they always get high marks on their soil. They offered us one free yard of compost but were not willing to cover the delivery fee. After some discussion that this offer ($30 yard of compost, which we were to either pick up or pay for delivery in compensation for close to $300 of bad quality soil and 2 months of nothing but peas – which don’t need nitrogen – growing in our garden) did not seem adequate, they did offer up to 4 yards of compost but still refused to pay delivery. In addition, after seeing other reviews online with the same experience with the soil, I am not confident in the quality of the compost from this company. We will go elsewhere and hope we can still salvage part of this growing season.Sand and gravel are probably just fine, I would stay away from the soil mix and compost.

Geesh! I call this place out of the blue and ask to order 5 yards of 3/4 minus reclaimed asphalt. 1 hour later Jim is here and he asked if Id like him to spread it on part of my 60 x 12 foot RV driveway with his dump truck. I said Sure, can you do that? and he said how many inches thick do you want it? He cut my shovel and wheel barrel time in half! Thank you! My neighbor needs some next and hes gonna use you guys.Thank you again!

These guys were cheapest and friendliest I found while shopping around on the telephone. When I needed a second load in the afternoon, they had Steve squeeze one more in for me. Thanks Steve and Tammy if I remember correctly. You guys ROCK!

I just had a delivery of bark and 3 way blend, the driver was very nice and got the material where I needed it and the gentlemen in the office was a big help on how much I needed. Will be getting more from them in the future! Highly recommended.

I called Portland Sand this morning and asked about a load of bark dust and the gentleman on the phone was very helpful and answered all my questions. Although I live quite a ways out from the city they delivered the bark dust within hours of my ordering it. It was a real pleasure working with them and will certainly use them again.

Dont cheap out by buying their 3-way! It has no nitrogen whatsoever, and is full of bits of plastic trash. Spend more elsewhere for dirt thatll actually grow something.EDIT: A month later, and nothing grows! The dirt and sand has washed away in this short time, leaving our beds topped full of sticks and trash. this was a total waste of money and time, and Im probably going in this weekend to ask for a full refund.
