Good selection with good prices! I was pleased to find them online. Order process went smooth. The flat rate shipping took a little longer than expected but in the middle of Corona 19, delays can be expected. After the package was received, one of the two yeast packages I ordered arrived on the verge of bursting. I contacted customer service and received a reply asking a few normal questions about the yeast in relation to the ice pack. The representative indicated that he wanted to investigate a little before sending a replacement. This is totally understandable. I responded and included a few photos. After 6 days without a reply, I sent a second email asking if my response had been received. The representative responded with the following…“How about this; Go ahead and use those yeasts as you normally would. Swelling can happen even under normal refrigerated conditions so lets not assume anything catastrophic before we have evidence that the yeast is bad. If the puffy pouch does not ferment a beer Ill send you a new one free of charge.Let me know your thoughts on this. I would not want to just send a new yeast out of the one you have is good but Im also not willing to let you make beer with anything that isnt up to our standards so please let me know if this works for you or not.”I think you would agree that this is not a solution that would be satisfying to many. I responded that this was unacceptable and I would like a replacement yeast package to be sent. I even offered to return the original yeast package if needed. The representative indicated that he would now replace the yeast in question. After I agreed, I was informed that the yeast is no longer available and the representative offered to provide an alternative. I opted for a refund.The only reason I gave 2 stars vs 1 is because of their selection and price. If based on customer service alone, I would not give a star.

I have visited most home brew shops in Portland and Vancouver, and Steinbart is the best in my opinion. Great selection of grains and yeast, and very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. Also the only one Ive found so far that carries Mecca Grade Estate grains from Madras which is my favorite.

Rented cider equipment and got some great advice! Had an issue with the equipment and they gave me a full refund and got me all set with new equipment so I could mill and press the apples I picked!

My favorite homebrew shop in Portland (and there are several good ones). Best selection of specialty grains Ive seen anywhere. Comprehensive rotation of hops and several yeasts, from multiple providers. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, excellent selection of accessories, adjuncts, cleaning supplies, and equipment. During pandemic times, will take an order over the internet and have the brew supplies ready for pickup, typically on the same day.

I feel cheated that it took me years to find these folks! While my first order was small and mostly targeted to a single beer with one hard to find ingredient, I spent a good amount of time looking at the staples that I buy in larger quantities. The available selection and pricing were excellent, and shipping is a good deal for orders large and small. Ill be back . . . a lot.

Steinbarts website works well - I was able to find what i was looking for. My order was ready in about 32 hrs. Pick-up was quick and easy.Steinbart personnel were knowledgeable and helpful. I recommend Steinbart to beginning and experienced home brewers.

The staff here are the most knowledgable and patient retail staff Ive ever encountered. Even when I showed up ten minutes before closing and ask all sorts of beginner questions, I was given extensive and unhurried answers. I wish record stores were this welcoming. Ive visited three times, interacted with three different staff members, and each has been as sweet and attentive as could be. They also seem to have no interest in upselling. Ill keep going back for sure.

The best service. Came for Will Call pickup (only thing you can do with COVID lockdown) and a CO2 fill (10lb tank). Gas dispensing machine was down and couldnt fill tank so I gave up on the idea and went on to other errands thinking Id come back days later when fixed. Got a call from Ryan shortly after saying they had solved the problem if I was still in the area (which I was). He had looked up my info from my Will Call and made that effort. *That* is service. This after having a great talk with Todd from the Draft Dept. earlier in the week.

Really difficult to order online and the default is shipping at well over a hundred dollars for in city deliveries. Be careful ordering online. It takes forever and shipping costs are outrageous.

Ive been going to Steinbarts ever since my wife bought me a homebrewing kit for 25 Christmases ago. Its always been a friendly place to shop, and theyve adapted well to Covid restrictions. Over the years theyve continued to update their offerings, keeping the stand-bys and adding new items. And theres no better or more knowledgeable staff in any kind of business.

Local Home Brewery supply. While Im not a brewer they do have some of the components that I was looking for to Hack my Soda Stream. They have been attentive and very helpful in finding what I needed... And did I say Local, wanting to support our local small businesses as much as possible.

Even though I live an hour away and there are closer brew shops to me I choose to come here. The staff is wonderfully knowledgeable. 5/1/2020 Update:Unfortunately Im revising my review.I placed an order on Monday and I have not yet received it. Nor do I know when itll be delivered.I called on Thursday afternoon and was advised that they would need to make some substitutions. I dont mind making substitutions at all, but it would have been helpful to have let me know vs calling to find out.As of this afternoon, I still do not know when to expect my order. 😕Being stuck in the house means that Im brewing a whole lot more than I had been. And Steinbarts has made it so easy. I just go online, order my ingredients and within a couple of days, my order is in a box on my front porch. They mill my grains and theyll place them in individually packed bags with super clear labels. No need to guess what is what. And they even add cold packs to keep my yeast cool.Great job, Steinbarts! I have purchased 2 extract kits. New to brewing. Both are easy to complete, instructions are very thorough and the beer is outstanding. American Amber and Red Ale so far. Waiting on ymy 3rd kit to arrive Gorgan Slayer.

Went for the first time yesterday and I was very impressed. I got a lot of help and answers and it was done in a very respectful way. Meaning they did not make me feel like they knew everything and I knew nothing. I came from Salem and even though its a 45 minute drive it will be worth the trip. They are very well stocked and I felt welcomed .

After I made over 300 gallons of good beer, my local supplier closed. I turned to F.H. Steinbart and the supplies and delivery service have been excellent.

This is the oldest and best brewing supply store in the area. From dozens of types of barley to stills, boilers, barrels, hops, chemicals, and carboy washers if its involved in fermenting a beverage they have it and the expertise to help you use it. I hardly go anywhere else.

Theyre have a lot of things though need either for being or for related tasks. I stopped by ro get Star San, a concentrated acid based sanitizer, which I wil use in an off label use. Im dissolving a painted on bottle label off the bottle doo I can reuse the glass bottle for something else. Friendly, knowledgable staff, nice big inventory. Lots of knowledge and expertise.
